From what I've seen it appears that SNK added in a lot of menu options to protect players from the usual BS that goes on in other Live games, but can anyone tell me if there is a default mute option for speech on Live? In other words, can I just disable all voice chat before playing on live, so that when some annoying kid inevitable starts spouting racist and homophobic epithets I don't have to bother muting him and whatnot?
Yeah, you can do it in the Xbox Dashboard I think.

I may be missing something here, but why dont you just not plug in the headset. If you dont want to talk/hear ppl than the headset is worthless anyway.

That only partially works. I can hear people cussing at me just fine over my TV's speaker if I leave my headset off. And that's with it being a mono-speaker dinosaur. Specific mute features are definitely a good idea.
Mind, I've found that most of the people who cuss at me are Shotoscrubs who run away all day throwing fireballs and pick Ash to boot, so I usually cuss them out right back if my headset is on. Running only works for so long, then you're going to get pecked to death.

just leave the communicator jack plugged in but leave the headset off. that way if you end up needing to talk shit, your all ready to go.

A good suggestion, but I don't even have a communicator - it all just plays right through my TV audio out along with the game audio. I'll try checking for an option on the Live dashboard - I don't recall having seen one before, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Under Live Options (which is in the menu with Create Game, Join Game etc.), there's an option to select if you want Voice through the TV, Communicator Only, or Both (or maybe it's Auto, I forget).
If you have no communicator plugged in, set it to "Communicator Only". Boom, no more little bitches. Only problem with this (like the Disable Color Edit option), it doesn't save. So you have to set it each time you start the game. But it works.
