heroes of mana so far has a GREAT story. combat is difficult though...i'm not sure i like it very much. sometimes i'm pointing dudes to go to one area of the map and they're wandering into god knows where. also wish there were some easier ways to reset battles. fuck going through all the story and shit...

I'd say, give it a chance until you unlock the Sweatin' difficulty. The first two can be slow and boring, but when you unlock a more difficult mode, then it should get better.

got further in heroes of mana (chapter 6). the chapters proceed fire emblem style, basically one or two fights a chapter. the fighting takes a lot of getting used to, but is actually pretty workable. it's only when the map gets really big that everything gets really difficult. for anyone playing it (ahem, s4), it's important to use the map flipping feature at the top right which lets you switch the top and bottom screen. this way you can click on a portion of the map and you're taken right there. this is the only way to control the multitude of actions going on at once. the thief girl is a beast, and the ninja girl is hawt (and also hawkeye's mom if anyone here ever played secret of mana 3). the story is still really good and i've just gotten magic, which is useful on the battlefield. once you get magic you can also summon monsters like salamander and probably undine etc. later on. glad this game got better. almost lost hope.

mechzz, thanks for all your help. i did wind up ordering the r4 but honestly gba compatibility is what i'm really looking for. gba has a much better library of games than ds. feening to play some of the zeldas, megamans etc. but anyways i'll let everyone know when my package gets here, do some quick reviews.

so, after having it still in the wrapper for a few weeks and being too lazy to return it, i finally cracked open Izuna...

i know a lot of people didn't like the game on this board, but i'm really enjoying it... it has a good balance of story and action, and i like trying to customize the weapons and make the best weapon i can...

it's a very well balanced game, though there are still points that can be abused, but they make you work for it, which i appreciate...

the game looks nice and there are some humorous moments, though they aren't anything to write home about...

overall, it's a fun dungeon crawler... i know you can take my recommendations with a grain of salt, but i enjoyed this and i recommend the game... ya'll should check it out...

Right now I'm about halfway through Final Fantasy III (I guess) and I've got a serious concern on my mind. I don't know what kind of team I should make jobwise. For now I've reached th thrid crystal and have access to the jobs up to the Viking, Evoker, Dark Knight, Dragoon, and Bard. My team currently consists of a Red Mage (Refia), a Knight (Luneth), a Geomancer (Ingus), and a Black Mage (Arc). The geomancer is doing really good and actually does more than half of the fighting for my whole team. The Red Mage has the white magic since she's the only one with the ability to use any decent white magic. So does anybody have any suggestions for a good team that I should be trying to assemble?

i got totally fuckin stumped when i had to find the sanctuary in hyrule castle. the adviser hints that it's in the courtyard so i was doing everything i could to figure out how to get in there when really it's in the castle itself. first time i had to use a faq. i'm at the wind palace now. yeah there are some challenging puzzles but i'm doing ok. i heard wii zelda has hella tuff puzzles.

Why does Final Fantasy III have to lack in-dungeon save points? I spend hours today going trhough the Crystal Tower only get beaten by the final boss. Now I've got to do all that work all over again. If I weren't at the end of the game I'd probably just stop playing but being so close to completion with this game is too hard to resist.

Well, I don't know a lick of Japanese, but I managed to figure out how to move, attack, and activate pilot abilities. That's all you need for the first few missions. I need to figure out how to train pilots, upgrade machines, and which abilities do what.

Can anyone who knows tell me whether the 1-player mode affects your stats/abilities in the wifi mode? i.e. do your energy tanks/ missile expansions in 1-player make a difference when you play online? Also, about how long would you say it takes to beat the single player? Still playing Mario Kart DS online. If anyone wants to play, PM for FC exchange.

As for Puzzle Quest, lol I thought this was something totally different. A little surprising and a huge time killer.

9999, early on, the 'destroy the catapault' quest is abusable. 200 prize xp everytime + wtvr else you get during the battle. What I do hate about the game is accidentally buying castle parts. GG trying to read info.

Not fun when the comp magically gets 4+ of a kind 4 times in a row.

Picked Puzzle quest up today. You are definitely right about the graphics, barely even GBA level quality lol. I wish the interface was similar to the PC version where you could hover over a spell to check what it does.

Still it is good for a puzzle fix since it is the best puzzle game since Tetris DS imo.

Well, at least you can press "help" then click the spell to check what it does. What annoys me is when you're buying a structure for your citadel and you can't check it if you have enough money for it.

Yeah I figured that out after playing for a bit. I didn't do the tutorial because I played the PC demo.

So far it seems like the knight is either the best or second best choice for a character because stun is really really good. I say second best because I haven't tried magician yet, but apparently they are good too. Druid is the worst because you have to rely on every type of mana which hurts you in the long run.

Yeah that is exactly what puzzle quest is, a beefed up version of bejeweled. The RPG elements are the only saving grace for the game.

Wow I've finally gotten my hands on a DS Lite and I've been playing it so much...this is the first system I've had since NES. I've been spending most of my time on Brain Age and Phoenix Wright. Such good games. I've played a bit of the New Mario but most of my time is spent on the former 2.

3 on GBA (two have been translated to US), and the DS exclusive GS4 is coming out in Japan on April 12. There is no english option on it though :-(. Though that probably isn't a problem for you.

Well, its being scooped by a lot of news sites now, so maybe it is real. If it is, I'm hoping for at least the NES version of Ninja Gaiden to be unlockable somehow. Or for the game to not suck. Team ninja has a pretty good history though, so I'm not too worried.

I just bought one. The deal was TOO GOOD. $60 from a MINT black Lite, while these things are hard to get. This guy at my job was trying to trade 2 in, and you arent allowed to trade duplicate items, so I bought the second one for the trade-in value. I bought it to re-sell. Game Stop sells used Lites for 119.99. I can settle for $100. LOL.

I did buy Mario Kart DS, and will be getting New Super Mario Bros, and Castlevania POR Tomorrow. I wanna know is DBZ Supersonic 2 any good? I enjoyed the first one, and what about Jump superstars?

My real gripe is that I already had a PSP, and I was somehow just expecting better graphics.

And when I say "in existence," go ahead and assume I also mean projects currently in development. When I say "speedy," I don't just mean fast in a cheaply implemented way. Anyone can simply speed up the animations. This is speed as it pertains to those elements that are so dear to me -- interactivity and responsiveness. I don't know how many times you would want to scratch across the screen of the DS in the space of a second, but rest assured that Hayabusa will constantly and flawlessly keep up with your every input. I can vouch for the above statement when concerning Super Princess Peach. The game is good, but it's not worth the $30+ dollars. Pick it up used if you can.

In other news...

FINALLY got my copy of Honeycomb Beat and the game was well worth the wait. Puzzle mode is great and Evolution mode is definitely filling the void after getting burnt out on Tetris. Game also has some nice customization features and a good soundtrack which are nice perks.

If you're looking for a puzzle game to hold you over till Panel De Pon DS and your tired of Tetris I suggest you pick this up! It's easily worth the $20 in my opinion.

I usually try to get all the four of a kind to get the extra turn, and also try to play where I dont give the opponent the chance to attack by not playing where two skills are next to each other. If I have no choice, then I force a mistake so the comp makes the move at their own disadvantage.

You have to look ahead before making a move. Make sure you aren't setting up matching skulls or four/five gems in a row for your opponent. Gems that appear from the top of the board are going to be random, so there's no helping that.

By raising your stats, you can increase your chances of getting an extra turn whenever you match gems. You can read the description of what each stat does. There are also spells that can manipulate the board in your favour if you use them correctly. Which class are you using?

Pick up the Firewalker's Staff if it shows up in the shop. It adds +5% fire resistance, and it increases your damage by 1 for every 4 red mana you have. It makes up for the Wizard's lack of Battle points. Use that staff, combined with Fireball/Hand of Power/Flaming Skulls.

Yeah vids of ZX Advent I'm just like "Holy shit at those backgrounds. They did it again! With a better map to boot! 9/10!" That's one of my biggest pet peeves about 2d games. If the backgrounds are bland you lose a whole point on my score. If yo shit is lively and full of details like, Symphony, ZX, Metal Slug (before 4), etc., then it makes a whole world of a difference.

But yeah Advent is looking too bad ass already. That hopping from ship to ship is so bad ass. I don't think we've seen this much bad ass since Maverick Hunter X (They even made playing as a human look fun in Advent! A bloody human! And ducking has been made relevant!).

At first I was like. Man Quiche is just being lame.

Then I read it, all.

Wtf? Can someone just fucking fire the people in charge of Sonic? No really because they suck. Granted this game will have 2d levels but the smatterings of 3d in the old one is what made it great (like the platform on the underground river). NOT OVER THE TOP BULLSHIT.

And the plot is even more ass than before. I don't get what's so bad about returning to the original plot and expanding that, without Shadow.

I just don't know how to feel about this. Yey Sonic Rush is coming back, but not yey for it sounding worse than before.

Just got a DS lite today in preperation for Pokemans this weekend.

My Gamestop said that they're having a midnight launch on saturday night so I can get it on 12 AM sunday. But I looked at Gamestop and it said that it ships on that Sunday. Hmm.

There's a tutorial, but a lot of the chains happen from luck (new pieces coming in after you clear out some gems). Its annoying sometimes. I haven't touched it in a while, either.

All you have to do is match three gems of the same type and colour, just like most puzzle games. The twist is that matching gems do things beyond raising your score. Matching coloured gems (mana gems) will give you mana so you can use your spells. Matching gold gives you money (1 gold for each gem you match), and matching purple stars gives you experience (1 point for each gem). If you match skulls, you will do damage to your opponent (again, 1 point for each gem). If you manage to match 4 of the same gems in a row, you get an extra turn. Matching 5 gems in a row gives you an extra turn, plus you generate a wildcard, which you can use to match with any mana gems.

Now, here's what's interesting: you can get all kinds of gear for your character, which can raise your stats, increase the damage you do, manipulate the board in some way, etc. Your character can level up and learn new skills. You can also put points toward stats, which affect how much more you earn from matching gems, and also raises your chances of getting extra turns when you match 3 gems (normally, you don't get extra turns for matching 3 gems).

In addition, you have access to a citadel, which will allow you to do things like capture enemies and learn the skills that they know, or create items using runes that you can find on the world map. You can also siege cities and have them generate money for you.

The AI is relentless, but the game gets easier over time. Just watch the moves you make; don't set up opportunities for the enemy. You have to look ahead, just like in chess.

How do those special moves work? I hit one and it disapeared but that was it and then the enemy fucked me up. I take it those special moves take a certain amount of mana that you have to generate in order to do them, but what's the way you do it? Do those special moves just take out one puzzle piece? IF so, I should always go for the damage ones right?

I forget which button you press, but you can read what each one is supposed to do if you press a certain button (on the touch screen) then touch the spell.
