McDonalds isn't your only option, just the easiest. Other wi-fi locations include: Libraries, schools/colleges, Malls (my bro says he can get connection at our local mall) Starbucks, some-guy-with-a-wireless-router's back yard, and more I'm sure.

I hate starbucks, my friend (who has wifi) isn't always home, and the school comps have router that aren't compatable. However I got the USB adapter today and it works great! I'll be sending my friend code on the other thread. Hope to race some of you!

How do you do the speed boost at the beginning?

After 2. Think the word "Two" in your head, the hold the A Button, that should be enough time.

To the rest of SRK: I hand down to you a link to help with your emblem making:

http://www.zsivanys.nl/mkdecal/

This allows you to upload an image, and it'll covert the image onto a 32x32 grid using the MK pallete so you can use it as an emblem. You still have to draw it yourself obviously, but it's easy and useful for those more complex pictures.

Nice. I'd rep you if I could for that, 9T Nine.

I played online for the first time against "rivals". I lost the first time, then won. Both players used Dry Bones, both times. This was only my first game, but do a lot of people use him?

In case you wanted to know, the new Dragonball Z DS game has shipped. If anyone picks it up, let us know...

WarioWare: Touched

The game is alright... The story mode is way too short. I was in the middle of playing and all of a sudden the credits started rolling? wtf?

I have to admit, I did laugh a lot while playing this game though. The game where you tickle the hairy guy's armpits, the game where you wave "bye-bye" and the guy gets randomly sucked up by a UFO all of a sudden, the game where you throw ninja stars at the ninja, and the "wow........." sound effect. Also the part where you need to leave a message for the other ninja girl because a monkey stole your bananas, I wrote a swear word as my message and the game just let me.

I keep getting the feeling this game is sending subliminal messages to me whenever I play it though, and I don't like that. Especially when you're playing the album mode and you get up to the around the 50's. The flashing lights and that crazy teddy bear head, the game could be putting me into a catotonic trance and making me do things that I don't even realize. Same thing with the disco dancer levels and those flashing stars in their eyes. It's very creepy, if not just seizure inducing, in my opinion.

It would of been awesome if the "Nine-Volt" NES minigames had more than just three difficulty levels. Seeing the old school Mario and Zelda is very nostalgic. But there is a LOT of content in this game I also admit though. I haven't unlocked all the "toys" yet and there are also still a few minigames I'm missing.

The thing this game really does lack is some sex appeal if you ask me. Ninja anime girls who look like they're 10 years old are for nerds, and the other girls also don't appeal to me in the slightest.

"Feel the Magic" girl > "WarioWare"

... even though you can't see shit because she's still just a stupid silhouette character, and in the overall decision on which game I like playing better, I'd have to give the edge to FTM over Wario in the fun rating, regardless of what all the video game reviews have said (Wario still has the more content though). Although pretty random and just as funny as the FTM storyline at times, the Wario storyline/plot is just too short for me to really enjoy it fully.

Yeah probably. I unlocked him yesterday. He seems top tier, give him a try.

Hey I got a question about the online record. I won a match the other day against 3 other people and my "wins" went up by 3. Does that mean if come in 3rd you get 2 losses and 1 win? Or if you come in 2nd you get one loss and 2 wins?

Remy Saotome

Heh, I like Dry Bones a lot too. But that's just cause he's a skeletal koopa, and one of the coolest enemies from OG Mario games.

But my personal best character is prolly Yoshi. That Cucumber of his has won me a lot of cups.

Damn some of these people on worlwide never cease to amaze me. there's this one dude named Crawler who freaking drifts the entire track!!!:wow: I'm talking about drifting and driving through Luigi's track like it was nothing. Im going to coin the term- *Drift-xisting*

Nope but apparently you can drift while driving straight ahead while your kart is facing horizontally, and still continue drifting without any apparent change of course- hence why I coined the term "drift-xisting" meaning driving while drifting the entire damn track.

This might also mean any character with excellent drift and good handling are auto-top tier.

I have no clue I've only seen this in action.

And no it would be applicable to every course since you don't have to be drifting around corners to do it, which is why it is different than regular drifting.

The guy I faced play on Rainbow Road, Baby Park, Luigi's Mansion, and Delfino Square and could do it flawlessly everytime. Even after he was hit by spike shells and red shells he could start it again like it was a natural state of driving, which is, to me, very disturbing.

If you like platforming, Sonic Rush is fun. And the new features in Super Mario 64 DS makes it worth at least a rental (can you rent DS titles anywhere?). And for those with short attention spans, Warioware Touched! or Feel the Magic XX/XY are enjoyable, though pretty similar so there really isn't much need to get both.

I sort of stumbled on drift-existing with Bowser. That fat ass has GREAT drift. I can hold a drift with him for at least 15 sec. I haven't drifted a whole course like you guys are talking about, but I should give it a try.

Drifting can be a tricky thing. When you're coming to a turn, just remember:

tight turn >= wide drift

In online I've caught up to or passed people who would drift real wide while I just tight turned. You have got drift as close to the turn as possible. If your coming up to a turn and don't think you can pull off a tight drift in your current situation (road crowded, bananna peel, etc.) just turn into it and you'll be fine (unless your Bowser, he can't turn, only drift).

When I first started playing, heavy characters seemed pretty useless. No turning, no accel. and if you went off road you were screwed. But now I'm finding them pretty okay. They have the best drifts, they can bump people HARD(usu. into walls or off-road FTW) and they have great speed. I guess there is a place for them.

you guys are just talking about "snaking" in mario kart right? i don't know about "drift existing", but "snaking" in mario kart has been around since N64. it's a common technique and can be used on the straights in tracks. it also separates skill levels. if you use snaking then the average joe who depends on item management and not on kart skill will be left in the dust (no matter what item he gets). snaking is not practical in every area or on every track. there are some tracks where you can snake the majority of the track (figure 8) and some where you can't, but you can always use snaking to get an extra boost in there and start killin' them staff ghosts. snaking is really good (especially in online mode where you can't carry items behind you to defend 1st position) because it allows the person in first to stay in 1st if he is skillfull enough (mini-boosting every chance you can). otherwise you might as well stay in last place with a star or triple shroom and then pass everyone on the last 25% of the race (that tactic is good and ghetto because most people don't snake anyway, but eventually all top players will snake).

it's not even close to what "snaking" is in F-zero. i was a snaking whore in that game and will be in this game. i don't think that it was supposed to be in f-zero, but it's definately in MK on purpose. otherwise they would have taken it out in MKDD. it adds another level of skill to the game.

Oh, and another good DS title is Advance Wars: Dual Strike. It's a strategy game, so be prepared to think.

So... as a gift I got a Graphite DS. Turn it on and there is one blue pixel staring me in the face.

Know any safe places that would repair it? I doubt Nintendo would cover an import DS purchased from e-bay.

Thank you VERY much for any assistance.

Does anyone else hate the controls for Metroid Prime: Hunters? IMO they suck very much. I think it should have been exactly like Prime for GCN with weapon/gadget selection on the touch screen. That could have at least been an option.

When I play the demo, I can tell that there is a good game hiding underneath those crappy controls. Still... I don't think that I'll get it because of the control issues...

I know how you feel, but remember, the build of Prime that is bundled with the DS is waaaaay old, and very early in the game's development cycle. The final product is going to be much different, and I 've heard rumours that they are going to revamp the controls. Hopefully that's the case, as the game has been pushed back again to March. I don't mind the wait, as long as the game is kick-ass.

It's going to at least control better than any PSP FPS. And the controls should be super customizable if the demo was any indication and recent builds. I don't mean that you will be able to have any ol' thing set-up but it should work out pretty well I hope/guess.

MARCH!!!! Makes sense since a 3d FPS metroid seems like a wild game to play over the internet without having a helluva lot of lag going. I mean if sacrificies had to be made for Mario Kart to work...

Oh they changed their minds like in the fall I think. That's why it got delayed at first until January but now March.

I think it's safe to assume that the single player game is complete or mostly and that the Wi-Fi is what's so difficult. I mean Mario Kart is taking a hit in playability in the Wi-Fi arena. So I guess they are working to make MPH as lag free as possible while keeping the intensity up.

Tried MKDS for the fist time, and I was impressed. I've never really played a MK game before (played the GC one for a bit though) and it's a lot of fun. Tried a few online matches, and I'm impressed by the lack of lag. All in all it seems like a fun game, one of the best the DS has to offer.

On a side note, Metroid Prime Pinball kicks all sorts of ass. Ranks right up there with PinBot, Pinball of the Dead, and Devil's Crush as far as video pinball games go. You can actually lay bombs on the playfield to destroy enemies, and the minigames are well implemeted and lots of fun.

AzN_Skater: Choosing etween MKDS and Meteos is a tough choice. But since you're not going to be going online with MKDS I would go with Meteos since it's so damn addictive. Having said that, both are awesome games, it would be wise to get both once you can afford to.

Tales DS finally has a name and some info. "Tales of the Tempest" has was unveiled a couple of days ago; the character designs are being handled by Mutsumi Inomata, the OG designer on Tales of Destiny. More news is as usual, on The Magic Box (www.the-magicbox.com). Just picked my DS up last night. Pretty sweet. Got the red and silver one that comes with Mario Kart DS. Picked up Castlevania: Dos and Advanvce Ward DS while I was there.

I'm going to pick up a few more titles after Christmas, and was hoping for some feedback about a few games.

Trauma Center looks like it could be either really fun or really boring, which one is it?

How's Meteos? Is it an addictive puzzle game, or just a repetitive one?

What kind of game is M & L Superstar Saga (or whatever the new one is called?) Is it more of an RPG, or a platformer?

Thanks for any input guys.

As far as the games I have, Castlevania is by far the best. Pretty nice job Konami did there. I have yet to play Mario Kart on Wi-Fi, that should be pretty sweet. And Advance Wars is pretty cool, I was expecting a little bit more though. Maybe I just need to get into the game more.

All in all, happy with my decision for the DS over the PSP.

Mario and luigi superstat saga is the first rpg on the GBA and is a fuckin awesome game.

The sequal is Partners in Time, in currently playing it, and it doesnt disappoint, funny as hell and really fun. Its a rpg AND platformer if you can believe it. Feels very much like a classis mario game mixed with rpg elements. Give it a try.

yeah i can vouch for mario & luigi too. haven't played the 2nd one, but the first one is definitely one of the best rpgs.

It's definitely a platformer also, I.E. you can jump on the enemies to get bonus damage before you enter a battle, but if you mis time it, you lose a turn during the battle.

you can get stuck doing some of the puzzles, but it basically gives you level time, so you don't haveta grind, which I hate. plus the dialogue is hilarious and worth the game alone.

mario & luigi.

if are you any sort of castlevania fan, this would be a no contest. I'm guessing you're not, so the next best choice would be mario and luigi. I haven't played it myself, but the first one was great, and it should last you a bit longer than castlevania. unless you wanna go for 100 percent souls on CV.

animal crossing is good, but it's not for everybody. it's not as addictive as CV imo.

Animal Crossing isn't an RPG, it's like a life game, read some reviews I guess, it's a game you need to check on pretty much every day, it's not bad but might be boring after a year or so.

Get Mario & Luigi for your third game.

assuming they make it,

but yeah ch 5 was awesome with all the new elements. it truly felt like the end of the game with a certain character's music theme.

i think ch 3 was the funniest, namely the part where edgeworth objects, but ends up only objecting to think of a question, and he immediately objects again. ch 4 was one of the best in terms of twists. ch 5 was more of a time consuming learn what actually happened thing, whereas ch 4 was like wow i can't believe that's how it really was type of thing.

I loved all of the trials. They were lots of fun.

And Phoenix Wright 2 is being made for Japan by Capcom, so I'm assuming/hoping that they're going to bring the motherfucking awesome again.

And all this is from a GBA game series. They really ramped up the DS functionalities in this. I can't imagine doing some of the stuff in the GBA version without the touch screen.

I've loved Mario Kart on SNES and N64, and this game is better than either. My friend even got the WiFi adapter for his computer, and playing online is scary addictive. Now I need a DS, I'm going to go through withdraw when I go back to college and can't play it anymore.

I'm plannin to buy a crimson red nds soon. I've done a little research and saw that you can play mp3's on it too. My ipod doesn't work anymore and so I'm looking forward to replacing to the DS for listening to mp3's. I'm interested in buying that 1GB flashcard cuz I've been reading its worth it. Is anyone else here using flashcards and what do you need to use them?

You mean the Mario Kart bundle (or red and black ds in japan).

Flashcards are really simple. All you need is something that reads flash cards.

So are you getting the Play-yan micro or the movie player?

I didn't know you HAVE to buy the play-yan or other movie players. I thought you could just play it easily off the DS itself but its good to hear it easy to use though.

heres so far what im planning to get for the ds:

wifi adapter
quendan (i dont need a mod to play import right?)
1GB flashcard, flashcard reader, media player (if its necessary to play mp3's)
mario kart

EDIT: heheh now that i actually took a better look at the flashcards , i see why u need a player to use them. so what's better play-yan or movie-player?

Neither. Get a Supercard and Superpass. Best value for your money, and you can easily use the supercard to play movies, mp3's, whatever.

It's actually based on the japanese court system. Hence no jury/ ability to present evidence in the middle of the trial/witnesses 'testify' rather than are directly questioned by the prosecutor.

It has some carryovers from the american system that I think arent in the japanese one though.

According to a Nintendo press release, the DS has globaly sold 13 MILLION units.

Without a doubt 2005 was the year of the handheld console. With the highly successful launch of the Nintendo DS and the continued success of Game Boy Advance SP Nintendo has dominated the handheld market. Following Nintendo DS's launch in Europe in March, almost three and a half million Nintendo DS have been sold.

Worldwide sales have shown a similar pattern with millions turning to Nintendo for their portable gaming. Approximately 13 million* Nintendo DS are now in the hands of people all around the world.

In Europe sales of Nintendo DS have been significantly bolstered by the launch of ground breaking games such as Nintendogs, which sold 1.6 million copies in Europe since launch in October and Mario Kart DS which stormed the Christmas charts with its global Wi-Fi capabilities, selling 800,000 copies in Europe since its late November launch.

Game Boy Advance has once again continued to sell well throughout the year with Pokemon continuing to go from strength to strength, sales of the latest game Pokemon Emerald reaching a staggering 1.2 million since it launched in October 2005.

European gamers have a lot to look forward to in 2006, with the launch of Prof. Kawashima's Brain Training: How old is your brain? and Animal Crossing: Wild World, both of which have been a huge success in Japan, selling over one million each, and are launching soon in Europe.

The Nintendo DS is available for around 129 Euros. Mario Kart DS and Nintendogs are now available for around 40 Euros and both games are also available in bundle packs (including a copy of the game and a Nintendo DS), available for around £99.99.

*Combined sell-thru numbers in Japan, North America, Latin America, Australia and other territories

DS sells well, sells out?
Sales exceed 13.5 million worldwide; Nintendo may be struggling to keep enough units in Japanese channel.
The DS sales numbers keep coming in, and they're still good for Nintendo's new portable. However, there is one problem--they may be too good for Japanese gamers trying to buy one.

Only a few days after Nintendo announced sales figures for the DS in America (nearly 4 million units), Nintendo of Europe today chimed in with its own regional tally. The DS has sold roughly 3.5 million units in Europe since its debut in March, bringing the global total to almost 13 million.

Like other regions, European gamers were gaga for Nintendogs, taking 1.6 million copies of the game for a walk. The recently released Mario Kart DS is also off to a fast start, selling 800,000 copies since its late November launch.

Nintendo's DS continues to sell well in its home country with more than 5 million sold--but that may slow down as available units are becoming scarce. On its Japanese language Web page, Nintendo has issued an apology to gamers trying to get in on the DS action. A rough translation explains that stock of the item is low, and that more DSes are expected to be in stores in late January.

Dragonball Z Supersonic Warriors 2 and Shonen Jump are the best fighters for it now. This month brings the arrival of Electroplankton too. If you like shooters give Nanostray a try. The scoring system isn't so bad but the weapon switching is... ew. I think we mentioned everything though.

I've seen lots of Japanese players seemingly just jump into the abyss, then the next thing you know, they get teleported over near the finish line. I think this works exactly like the extreme shortcut at Frappe Snowland, but I just don't know specifically where to jump in Skyway Garden. :/

Okay, this may be N64 Mario Kart only (because I've tried it on the DS and I can't seem to make it work but I'm probably doing it wrong), but there is a shortcut on Frappe Snowland near the wooden draw bridge. How it works is this:

1) Run along the wooden bridge
2) Right before the wooden bridge ends, jump to your right, into the snow, without touching the main road
3) Keep driving on the snow (without touching the road) past the finish line, then make a sudden right. This will put you out of bounds, and Lakitu will tow you. However, what this does is he actually takes you AROUND the whole track, giving you a whole lap advantage.

I am assuming the one in Skyway Garden is the same way. Lakitu tows you and he just takes you around the entire track (which is probably not intended but it works). I've seen this done many many times, and even one time I followed a Japanese player INTO the abyss (but it didn't work for me). Either I am doing something wrong here or the location is very VERY specific.

Papa Trunks
01-09-2006, 01:15 AM
I tried the trick and it doesn't seem to work anymore. Instead Lakitu justs sets you back before the finish line but you won't achieve the entire 2nd lap when you cross. By the way, how do you check your stats for Mario Kart?

Finally.....a nintendo made tetris game......with online. The fact that its tetris and it has wi-fi attached to its name will get copies off the shelves.

Not exactly DS news, but... someone is translating Phoenix Wright 3 (GBA) and has released the patch for the first case.
http://comebackcourt.sourceforge.net/

No, there is no translation for part 2.

In DS news, they are making part 4 for the DS... I wonder how long it will take to get here...

Can you please tell me if this is a different case than the one on DS?

Can you please tell me if this is a different case than the one on DS?

Yes, it is. The DS Phoenix Wright is based is a remake of the first GBA (j) Gyakuten Saiban, with an extra Episode for DS. The next two Gyakuten Saiban games are japan only, GBA. The next one they're making is Gyakuten Saiban 4, for DS. There are no plans as of now to release 2 and 3 in the US. This patch is a partial translation for GS 3 for GBA, but only has a full translation of the first case.

It says you need to apply it to an original ROM, not one that has already been partially patched. Perhaps this is your problem?

The GS3 case is really fun, I don't want to spoil it but if you like Mia you'll love this. Unfortunately since it's a first case it's way too easy but not as easy as the braindead first case in the DS game. There's a cool easter egg about Payne near the end as well.

let it be known, Electroplankton owns hard......

at first, but it kinda wears out after awhile. More of a test game. There should be some puzzle element in it to keep you playing.

Electroplankton is an acquired taste. i was really hyped when it first came out, so I imported it. But I only played it for like a week and never touched it again. Its a transient game (for lack of a better word), (the fact that you can't save your music is a testament to that) I would only recommend it to the musically inclined.

Oh, first DS Tetris screens.
http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=5963

Apparently the game will have mario/zelda/metroid/etc. themes. I am excited. And this looks tight. Notice that there are ITEMS in multiplayer! More excuses for people! "I would've owned you if you didn't use that Blue Shell!" Let's hope that there is no broken item like the blue shell.

I'm playing Lost In Blue right now. Seems to be quite fun, but I'm having a hard time keeping my characters fed. I'm sure that will get easier once I figure out how to trap stuff

New Mega Man game for DS!

Mega Man Zex?

Not fond of the name, and the screens are too early to judge. But I am excited... as crap (excited crap, mind you)

Oh and there's rumors of a DS redesign announcement on monday... hmmm.

Man, I have mixed feelings about that new megaman game. It seems... silly, but the fanboy side of my brain is telling me to spend as much money as I possibly can on it anyway.

It's just a fanpic, so I wouldn't bet on that being the new model.

EDIT: Also, I highly doubt there will be any new functionality to a new model, but if I were to guess on what would be new things on it, it would probably be lighter, thinner, have a brighter backlight, and have longer battery life, although, I find the battery life to be excellent in the original version (in comparison to the PSP).

I wished they improved on the button and directional pad ergonomics. For me, they feel too "flat", meaning that there doesn't seem to be a level of depression while pushing down on a button/direction. The SNES buittons and pad were probably the best I've ever played with, so here's hoping for that kind of consideration.

The images of this new Mega Man game remind me of Mega Man Zero more than Mega Man X. While I liked both of them, I enjoyed Mega Man X a whole lot more. So long as Capcom can keep the story good, the powers fun, and the game length long then I'll be buying this one.

GBA to SP to Micro

by the way the new megaman game makes me happy because that series could use some new style. X is fun but it died after X6 and Battle network is cool an'all but doesnt is seem a little drawn out? Cant wait to see more of the new megaman.

n.

yep excatly what i thought. it's more like gba to sp to micro to sp 2 lol.

i've always wanted a sleeker design from the get go. IMO the ds felt huge when it's opened. hope it'll be smaller. that'd be some tight shit.

at first glance it looks great...

then you start to thinking about playing on that thing. I don't want my "handle" pieces to not be solid objects. The fact that they swing open means that they'll swing closed which could get hairy. The position of the analog and d-pad don't look natural. It's like with the PSP's analog. It feels off to me.

I saw a better redesign where only the screen opened but also rotated so you could lay it flat on top of the touch screen for the gba mode.

What I want more than slimmer system is a firmware update so we can reassign gba games buttons to our liking. That would be the COOLEST thing ever. Or even make macros for left over buttons. Perfect for a certain Street Figther game.

That looks alright, but there's one huge flaw in that...
It has an analog nub! No analog nubs dammit! The one on the psp sucks so badly, I'd rather have a quality d-pad over that anyday. What they should do is have an analog sitck that pops out by a button press or something. Then goes back in again when you fold it.

i guess just you and me were the only ones from srk that got the coin from mr. iwata...
too bad the ACWW thread is dying

edit- about the fan design of the the DS redesign, is it me or is the power button a bit big?? also the d-pad is placed lower than the buttons on the other side...
