Yeah but it's kind of sad for the people who JUST bought the 'old style' DS just to find out in a month there will be a new style.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned (and I apologize if it has been... but I don't see it in the DS game list in page 1 of this thread), but there's a new Lunar game for the Nintendo DS. A female friend of mine showed it to me earlier and the game looks very promising.

Just when you thought Working Designs went kaput, Ubisoft keeps the Lunar series alive!

EDIT: Yep, there it is, it was on page 7 or something. Curses for owning a DS really late. :P

Ukyo, the Lunar game's been out for a few months now, and according to everyone, it is garbage.

And for everyone else, the re-design rumor has been debunked, there's no news of a re-design coming... yet.

(lol to the Melty Blood tribute there ^_^)

I got Trauma Center: Under the Knife and I never cease to be amused by the fact that you're saving people. It's really addicting because it makes you feel all fuzzy inside when you save someone and administering liters of drugs straight into someone's heart is also amusing a times.

The anime-esque graphics make it all the more amusing though because there's blades, lasers, and varous tools of the trade, but you use them to un-kill people?! Whatever the case, it's a great game that'll keep you busy.

I realize that, but I seriously think that bitching about it is the most pointless complaining ever. When I bought my GBA, like 3 months later, the SP came out. I never bought an SP, i just stuck with my GBA and later bought a DS when it was released. BTW, if it's announced anytime soon, it'll probably come out between summer-December.
Btw again, if your looking for a good gba game, can't go wrong with FF4.

Sp00ky
01-20-2006, 07:24 AM
FF4 was ok. They could have at least made it ffhardtype so you didnt blow through the entire thing in 12 hours + another 5 or 6 for the new stuff. But playing ff on the train on the way home = win.

I could make a complaint about how alot of these DS/GBA games are too damn short (Phoenix wright, Castlevanias, FFTA, Advance wars DS, FE) but then I have to remind myself it's a portable, making the game too long would take forever for people who mostly play during downtime and at home would rather play a ps2 fighter/rpg/whatever.

Just a couple of months away until Metroid drops.

Here's hoping the wi-fi is gold with 4 players online (with, at least, a good lobby system or something)

and that the single player wasn't forgotten about.

I don't think it will suck because they've had SO much development time. The single player was probably finished in the fall for sure and with 4 months of extra time to work on wi-fi it has to be decent.

no, that's as good as it gets. You just suck at it. And I'm not trying to be mean either.

It takes A LOT of practice to get good but I've gotten really good at it. If you play survival mode in the demo over and over again. You'll get better. Also, if you can't handle the normal stylus. Check out the Comfort Stylus. I use that and it's even better.

So you have to...

1) Get used to holding the DS with one hand (left or right).
2) Get used to holding the stylus on a target.
3) Get used to the idea of getting your arse handed to me over Wi-Fi.

And you'll do just fine.

BLEACH is out. SRK, who's got the game?

Sp00ky

^I agree.

It's been previously disscussed, and my opinion still stands. http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2785637&highlight=metroid#post2785637

They could have something similar or exactly like the Gamecube, but (as far as I know) they don't. That's just retarded IMO. Would it have killed them to have such a scheme? The only thing missing is the C-stick, and that's what the touch screen is for.

Hey, touching is good, but if it will take away from gameplay, don't bother.

Unless they upgraded the controls.

In that case nevermind...

Gamecube's controls take away from the skill neccesary in a fps. Being able to automaticly lock on to your target has zero skill involved. If all we have to do is hold lock on then it's no fun. Unless the lock weakens after awhile or something.

Anyway. It just takes some getting used to. It's really not that bad. My only gripe is that I can't dash in the ball using the touch screen.

Problems with the prime control scheme that have 0 to do with lock on.

1. Cramps.
2. Why is there no stylus sensitivity option so you can aim faster like mouse sensitivity in every other fps?
3. Fucking cramps.
4. Name a comfortable position to play it without looking like a retard/hurting your back or neck after a while.
5. Jesus fucking cramps.
6. Changing to missiles/ball/whatever is nonintuitive and not nearly fast enough for a FPS.
7. HOLY JESUS THE FUCKING CRAMPS! WHY DO MY HANDS HURT SO MUCH?

Take it as you will, I'll be hoping for a new scheme that uses the stylus for aiming but doesnt make moving/switchign retarded.

Yes, I think the official term is "monkey paw style" gameplay.

Anyway Lock-on is completely irrelevant. I said MH should have the same controls, not gameplay, as MP. Using the R button to look around and aim would work fine. Lock-on is totally unnessesary.

Well I hold it find with no significant cramps. Like I said, it takes awhile to get used to but trying a different stylus helps (THE COMFORT STYLUS FOR 6 BUCKS! Need a link?). I'm actually cool with it. I'm right handed btw.

Sensitivity would be great.

Ball and weapon changing is unintuitive. But that just caused me to plan out my moves more (cept turning into a ball, it's the only way to get the psycho metroids off of you).

Well we'll see something in febuary I'm sure.

EDIT (goes and plays again):

Ok it's not as comfortable as I make it seem. I use the palm of my right hand to cup the bottom right corner of the ds while I use my fingers to point around n' stuff.

What's with all of this bashing of the Metroid Prime: Hunters control scheme?

Personally I use the method of putting my thumb in the wrist strap and using that to play. Since I only have to use my thumb my hand doesn't get tired and also my thumb stays on the DS so I have better control over it. Has anybody else tried it this way?

Maybe your wriststrap is different, but the wriststrap that came with my DS is so small that it is useless. I would use it if it were a little bigger.

Why is the review of Electroplankton only a 6.2 on 1up.com? I kept reading so much hype about this game in my magazines. I guess it's not so fun then? Does anybody here own a copy and can give their opinion?

I'm almost done with Mario 64 DS. Just 6 more stars to go and I win. I'm wondering what game I should get next.

What's the best game on the DS available in America right now? Yeah, I know Castlevania is awesome, but I didn't like Aria of Sorrow and the girly, effeminate artwork of the in-game characters is an extreme turnoff for me.

I'm trying to decide whether to get Advance Wars, Kirby Canvas Curse, or Mario Kart. My friend keeps complaining how cheap Mario Kart is with the people who snake through entire levels and take glitch shortcuts, so I don't know if I want that game. Does anybody here like Meteos? All my friends love Phoenix Wright, but I keep reading that it has no replay value. I sure wish Feel the Magic 2 would just come out soon. Brain Flex DS looks interesting too.

I own four DS games. FTM, WarioWare, and Mario 64 are so fun and awesome I want to go punch some babies. Trace Memory sucks and I'm interested in getting rid of it if anybody here wants to trade.

edit: Does anybody know where I can get one of those goldfish T-shirts?

I have electroplankton, I bought the import version when it first came out last year. Its a cool game, but its kind of an acquired taste. If you're into making music, it'll be one of your favorite games. If you like music, you'll have fun with it... for a while. It gets old after a while unless you really enjoy making music, in my opinion.

I imagined that Jump would be the most imported game.

Reason why E-Plankton got such blah reviews is because it misses out on some bare essentials, like being able to save you work! I'm sure if you could save your music and trade it with other people, it would have gotten much better reviews. That's the only reason I'm not buying it because what use is creating when it's only going be destroyed 10 mins later.

I currently have 133 hours in Advance wars right now...

This is the greatest game ever made, seriously...

Right now i'm trying to beat dire range ad it seems impossible...

I played with Kanbei against Colin...

I swear I killed 150 of his units in 45 days before i just gave up...

I hate that the computer has no sense of compassion for thier units...

Any ways i'm not stopping till i get all 300 medals...

becareful with the asian model as the power supply may not be the same and you may have to buy an added convertor. jap model will be the same as US for sure.

Ouendan
Bleach
Castlevania
Bomberman (multiplayer is TOO good)

Upper Tier games:
Warioware Touched
Sonic Rush
Phoenix Wright (no replayability though)
MarioKart DS (for some reason this game didn't draw me in like other people)
Metroid Prime Pinball
Lost in Blue
Tony Hawk American Sk8land (almost top tier I <3 Tony Hawk)

Mid Tier games:
Feel the Magic (quite fun but you might ruin your touch screen playing this game)
World Champ Poker (its surprisingly good for multiplayer)
Meteos (just not too fun for me)
Another Code: Trace Memory
Pac Pix (kinda fun...Low Mid Tier maybe)

Seeing how A) its an import, so it cost more and you can't read the story, and B) it is a poor man's Smash Brothers with no depth. I was very disappointed. If I read the manga maybe I'd enjoy it more.

Then again, I am loving Bleach and I've never read / seen any Bleach before.

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! is like DDR except more free form. If you like rhythm games you'll love it.

Bomberman single player is not worth playing. It's boring. Bomberman multiplayer is godly.

Lost in Blue is like Harvest Moon meets The Blue Lagoon (the movie). If you like Harvest Moon you'd like Lost in Blue. You have to set a routine and slowly advance the plot when you have time. Half the fun is just collecting items and hunting / gathering.

My question is...what DS game should I play next? I'm leaning towards Mario & Luigi. Mario 64, or Advance Wars. I'm plaing Kirby Canvas Curse right now as well, and the 4th case of Phoenix Wright, but those games haven't really pulled me in all that much. Opinions?

mario & luigi, i liked the first one, 2nd one i tried for a few mins, didn't like it, but i guess i don't like rpgs. mario 64 is pretty good, but the control pad sucks compared to the n64 control stick, I.E. when you wanna do a 180, he steps to the side before he turns, and you fall. but still a fun game imo, even though it's a rehash. I got Age of Empires DS.

It's prety sweet so far. Lots of units + the hero characters are alot better then the Advanace wars ones. Theres ALOT more resource management -- it feels sort of like an RTS turned into a Turn based Strategy but the conversion feels good.

If you're playing two player against someone who's good, some of the battles are hella long and really big wars of attrition unless you set Day limits. One battle against a friend of mine took almost two hours. The maps are about the size of advance wars, maybe a little bigger.

Kanbei and sonja is a very sick team as well you just have to watch out for kanbei's rediculously expensive units...

I think they will have a tough time if the start of with less bases than their opponets...

The reason I play sami and lash is because i put tons of value on movement...

And I put tons of value on capturing property...

Lash is sick because on her regular CO power she can move through terrain like it's not even there plus her fire power increases in terrain...

I hardly ever use their tag Power because i'm only concerned about one thing...

Capturing that property...

Hell my Sami is level 25 right now...

Lash is only 10 but she'll get up to elite status...

My second highest CO is grit at 21...

PingPong
02-19-2006, 11:33 PM
i think the reason why that EGM reviewer gave AW1 a 7.5 rating was probably the difficulty. though i havent played AW1 myself since i started with part 2, i have heard that some of the maps in AW1 in hard mode were near impossible or just frustrating.

I'm seriously thinking about playing Advance Wars DS as soon as I beat the last case on Phoenix Wright. My only concern...how steep is the learning curve? Because the way you guys are talking about it, I'm worried I won't be able to get into it.

For example, I didn't care for Civ 3 because there was too much shit to do

PingPong
02-19-2006, 11:44 PM
oh don't worry about the learning curve, the first handful of maps will introduce you into the various units and show you how they work against other units. if your pretty sharp you prolly wont have trouble with story mode until like around mission 20 and up. but if your not maybe around mission 8, i remember reading multiple threads on gfaqs where many ppl could not pass mission 8.

i heard that AW1 had a really nice training tutorial where they went step by step on how you did things in the game and such.

also don't worry about the stuff monbaby and I are talking about, it what happens when you have more than 150 hrs clocked in this game, just higher strats and stuff

I've been there actually. Not with a DS but with a first generation GBA.

My friend at school (sophmore in high school) wanted to borrow my GBA for a little bit and I was cool with it. So in the morning I stuffed my gba and GBA game wallet (a really cool accesory that I've yet to see since) with some other accesories in some sort of GBA case thing. I was running late and ended up missing my first bus stop so I dashed to the next one (about a block away). I make it to the next stop and hop on the bus, and when I look inside my bag the GBA and all the stuff was gone!

I spent the rest of that day hoping and praying that it was not in the middle of the street which I had to cross or that no one stole it. Of course when I got home it was no where to be found so some lucky body just picked up a free gba with 9 games!

Yeah, so I know the pain. Gotta keep electronic goodies as close to you as your wallet and boxers.

As far as Tony... issue with that game is that it's the gazillionth version of Tony so that's probably why people didn't pick it up (that and it launching along side Mario Kart... bad mistake. Should have been held off till December or January so people would think "hey time to pick up another wi-fi game"). So if you were to go online have fun finding people. But the Wi-Fi compenent is better than Mario Karts as many reviews have said. And from what I've heard it's fun and plays well.

Have fun with Castlevania. I started playing in Hard and Julius mode but just kind of stopped but the first time through was a great experience. Not quite the thrill that one would get from SotN but very close, especially the front entrance area with the snow. Beautiful work there.

All I have right now are Electroplankton (which I play pretty much every day, Im addicted at this point.) Castlevania (Well I got it on launch and am only recently 100% done with it) and Mario Kart (Wifi alone makes this a keeper)

Games I have owned
Meteos
Bomberman
Mr Driller
Warioware

The only reasonI traded those games in was I was 100% done with them. Although I might repurchase bomberman for the multiplayer.

Games Im looking into
Advance wars
Mario and Luigi (I keep forgetting to pick this one up)
Bleach
Jump superstars
Quendan (sp?)

On the DS lite: Ho yeah, I am buying one. But I will keep my current DS, its not really that bad... But after extended play my hands go numb when I grip the DS too tightly. Web brower is probably a must, TV tuner looks even more essential. The RAM upgrade really interests me... with just a little boost I think the DS could really push some pixels. I can see SNK porting kof's perfectly to the ds.

Oh yea can't wait for METROID. Sad thing is i bet there's gonna be people who yell HAXOR too.

About the RAM - Yea there wasn't enough ram for some games to run which is why the expansion slot was put to use. If the game was forced to run with just a normal jumper pack, say perfect dark...it would run absolutely choppy as shit, just like a game on a PC with insuffcient ram.

Ram does not help pixel pushing at all...even on a computer. Pixels = Graphics...graphics then means you need better graphics chip to have high quality stuff. If you want it to run better, ram is what you need. Processor is like the loading and shit.

Too good. :bgrin:

Rub Rabbits is the best game on the DS. It finally came in the mail yesterday and I haven't stopped laughing since I've started playing it.

I said how much I liked the opening movie from the first game, with the girl in the short skirt doing the go-go dancing and shaking her ass, right? The movie is still just as brief unfortunately, but Rub Rabbits has two girls instead of just one now and that's even better.

In the "Eyes" mini-game, you need to "hit the girl with your sexy gaze". It's hilarious when you do and the guy starts pointing at himself with his thumb.

During the "Rose" scene, you hold you DS sideways and it's just a really cheesecake gimmick so you can watch the girl arch her back and do yoga stretches.

I love that "mmm..." sound in "Disc".

The bad guy isn't some random big fat mohawk dude this time. It's an evil genius girl who's in love with you herself, and has her own cutscenes and voice also. I love the Karin laugh she does during "Dinner".

I don't like the voice of the main girl this time around as much as I did in the first game. The girl in the first game had a cute Japanese accent but the new girl doesn't.

The girl gets happy and starts bouncing up and down whenever you beat a level in "Virus".

Any game where you can poke at a girls boobs and she gets mad at you --->

Anyway, this is easily the most enjoyable non-fighting video game I've played since Resident Evil 4, Snake Eater, Feel the Magic, and Mario DS. I give all those games a perfect 5 of out 5 rating and Rub Rabbits now proudly sits right alongside them in my collection of favorites.

Go buy it right now!

Zero from the GBA MMZ series is back.

Also, if you check magicbox.com's news for today, there's a new digimon ds game coming out, for those interested.

Man, it's so not fair. Why dosen't Capcom make another 500,000 copies of Phoenix Wright? They'd have no problem selling them I'm sure... Dammit. I really don't feel like paying 80 bucks for a damn copy of that game and then they actually DO re-release it.

The Japanese version of Phoenix Wright (Gyakuten Saiban) is billingual, it has the same English translation as the US game on the same cart.

And unlike in the US, the game has lots of distribution in Japan, since it's bigger there, that and it shouldn't be too much to import since the game is quite old already.

As much as I like phoenix wright, I'd never pay more than 40 bucks. Game has no replay value whatsoever. Anyhow I heard they were bringing some episodes to mobile phones with downloable episodes. Can't wait for that

Yeah, I just read that they are bringing all the gba episodes to the cell phone. I think my cell phone bill just got higher.

I don't think that's Zero... I think it's one of those kids in the Zero armor.

i'm not impressed with phoenix wright at all. this is another mediocre game that will be expensive along side with the likes of suikoden 2.

KCXJ :oh man i got stressed out on feel the magic...how difficult is the new one? (rub rabbits)
The hardest levels are "Fire" and "Fight". "Disc" gave me some trouble at first, but I beat it eventually after I played more patiently.

In "Fire", you have to blow into the microphone and sustain that for a good 8 seconds or so, and I kept running out of breath and getting dizzy (in real life). After I died a bunch of times, I learned to hold the fire until the last possible moment and the times where I need to blow for a long time also.

"Fight" is pretty much the "Bull" level from Feel The Magic, only the difficultly is jacked up about three fold. Good thing you have three lives before you need to restart. There are two 30 hit bad guys you need to kill and you have to do that within like 5 seconds. I swear it's humanly impossible. The closest I could get was 5 hits left before I got hit.

Oh, "Stampede" is a pain in the ass also. Not when you're zapping the bulls, but when the boss robot bull shoots missles at you and you have to touch them all before they explode, and you don't have enough time to do it comfortably. If you literally tap on the screen just one more time than there are number of missles/hearts on the screen, your time will run out and you lose a life (but it's still fun :bgrin:).

--------

Overall, I say Rub Rabbits is easier than Feel The Magic, on normal difficulty at least.

"Candle" and the last boss in Feel the Magic were too much for me to handle (although I haven't played past level 5 on any of the Rub Rabbits mini-games yet, so I dunno completely).

You do get a lot more stuff to unlock in Rub Rabbits which is really sweet though. I'm diggin' the flight attendent cap. :lovin:

I really love the twist ending once you beat the game that ties in back to Feel The Magic also.

--------

I wish I could take a screenshot of the "Poke" mini-game. It's too funny when the hero starts getting all giddy like a girl. The hero has his finger extended and you're suppose to poke the girl on the part of her body where she poked you first. I had fun just poking her in the eyes and watching her get pissed though. It would of been hilarious if you could poke her in the boobs also, but when you move your finger to that area, the hero holds out his palm instead to cop a feel.

If you guys can give me 10 reasons to buy a DS instead of a PSP then I'll buy one tomorow and have a reason to post in this thread.

Do you like RPGS?

Well Mario and Luigi is a damn good RPG. I havne't played Paper Mario or any of them after Mario RPG, but it's kinda like that. There's still timed attacks and stuff, but it's taken to a whole new level. Now there's way to counter certain attacks, dodge certain attacks and all that. And the "Bros Items" Feature is pretty damn cool. Basically this...each Bro, Mario, luigi, and baby counterparts each have their own button. Y-baby luigi, X- baby mario, b- luigi, A-Mario. It depends on them item like for a green shell mario kicks it first, it then bounces over to luigi, which you time the B, then A for mario , b, a, b, a and it just gets quicker and quicker. Of course this is the most basic bro item, so it's pretty damn easy. If there's a baby involved, then you can have him ride the shell, and press his button along with mario and luigi as he hits the enemy. Other ones involve randomness of all four.

I really suggest this game if you're an RPG fan. I honestly cannot stand to play another FF because traditional turn based is just too gay. This IMO takes it to the next level with a lot of fun battle features.

However the dodging and stuff makes it a tad bit on the easier side, but i'm only about 8 hours into the game so far, so i can't be exactly sure how hard the game can get...i do get hit a few times countering and dodging attacks.

============================================
Castlevania - Need i say more? This game just flows really nice like a castlevania game should. And it's a beautifully detailed game IMO.

==========================================
Mario Kart - This is a 50/50 game. If you wanna play this game...one you need wi-fi to play it at it's fullest potential, and two) you need to know how to snake if you wanna win, cause it's impossible to win against a snaker.
=========================================
Feel the Magic - This game is pretty chessy IMO, but the gameplay is unique and what makes me like it a lot, regardless of what review sites say. Buy a screen protector for this game though, you'll need it.

That's only the four games i Have for my DS right now. Trust me You'll love this thing to death. I don't even have time to play most of these games and i already love it to death. I mean, i'm not gonna flame you for wanting to buy a PSP because that's kiddy stuff, and i admit some of the features are pretty cool, like media capabilities...but if you're all for gaming, DS is the way to go. I thought i would use my ipod for some video, but i haven't had a video on there since the first one i've uploaded, so i can imagine doing the same thing with a PSP.

I hope I've pushed you in the direction of a DS though. There's so much potential running this system. I won't say metroid prime hunters will be good, but so far it's looking pretty damn good, and i don't expect nintendo to just let something like that go to waste. It has to be decent at best, along with wi-fi capabilities.

And I've heard a lot about bleach, and it's a pretty good fighter, although i can't play fighters on pad and buttons anymore, but if the game does get pretty popular as a fighter I would be willing to give it a try. And yea...that game is wi-fi too.

One word: NANOSTRAY

If you like shooters, give it a chance. The touch screen weapon - switch "feature" takes a bit of getting used to, and the game isn't that forgiving, but it's a load of fun. And of course, like every other good non - Nintendo DS game it's discontinued.

Edito: Has anyone discussed what they use to clean their screens? Does Nintendo recommend anything specific? Anyone have recommendations?

I want a PSP because of its media, but the new word of the DS media centre is pushing me more towards a DS. Also if any Zelda games come out like OoT.....

Oh yea kcxj, thanks : I believe you are the one that encouraged me to give feel the magic a try, and i loved it...gameplay is unique. I'm willing to give it's sequel? a try.

The main reason why i probably love it is because of it's uniqueness, and the main reason why i love the DS....it's different.

I'm even starting to have a lot lot lot more hope for Nintendo's Revolution console.
===================

About the cleaning...I have a screen protector on mine, so it's probably a different story...if i use like a paper towel it will leave some shit behind because of the material the protector is made of i guess?

Anyways...i bought this hori screen protector, which is licensed by nintendo, and it came with a cloth to clean your ds with before you put the protector on. It was some lint free cloth , but if anything, that's probably my best to be using, lint free cloth.
