Yeah, its amazing enough already that you can actually download a demo without inserting anything. My fiancee and I have the Brain Age demo on her DS right now, we're not turning it off yet, just keeping it in sleep mode when we're not using it. Really can't wait for the game.

- Tetris
- Touch Swing Golf

Those are the notable ones that I remember. There's also some movie clips you can d/l onto your DS.

Concerning Touch Swing Golf: The demo was kind of fun. I don't know how long the fun would last though, doesn't seem to be too much in terms of personality. I think I may wait til a Mario branded Golf game comes out... if it ever does.

Brain Age is pretty fun and highly educational. i wonder if itll make me smarter as time progress. M3 with flashed DS is hotness. TetrisDS is also convincing pretty fun. I wonder what new games are coming out. Thatll be cool if capcom makes an alpha series on wifi. Damn.

It wouldn't work honestly. Actually, any of the hardcore 2D and 3D games wouldn't work due to lag fucking up timing. If there were to be a fighter, it would have to be one of those 4 player non-specific-execution games, like Melee or Power Stone. Hell, maybe a PS2 Naruto fighting engine game would work (considering its a mash type game).

It's ok, just that I've been preaching about the CS around different DS forums for awhile and just no one would listen to me. If she/the company sold them in stores she'd probably get a ton more buyers. Hell, she could have sold the patent to Nintendo and it could have replaced the new stylus for the DS lite. But whatever.

Index. I keep it in the index form. Which is with the tip of the stylus acting at the "exact" point at which I'll be applying pressure. Like tap your finger on something. It works like that.

Yeah I use it on my index for Metroid and my thumb holds my index/comfort stylus for stability with the rest of my fingers some how making a base for the DS. I can't wait until the DS lite comes out. That smaller form factor will make playing many touch intensive games easier.

I have tried it on my thumb, like with Mario 64, but I wasn't really feeling it because my thumb a) doesn't stretch all over the screen and b) there still isn't that resisitance that you would get with a real analog stick. It works better than the included stylus, your plain finger or thumb, and thumb strap for dang sure.

Yeah, Advance Wars has never been a good "play for 15 mins game." While you can save at anytime, coming and going from a battle, you could probably forget stuff. I'm still hesitant on picking this game up. I just get this feeling that Nintendo is going to wise up and make a sequel with Nintendo Wi-Fi included along with the abilty to upload and download user created maps. I really hope they do because it'll probably be an even bigger hit then.

woot. just got my hori screen protector. These things are simply the best. I laid them on with ease and it just fuses with the screen. Then with light pressure I was able to get the air bubbles out. Seriously there is no reason to get anything else.

ROFL well i think that guy clearly did not read the instructions cause i have used the hori ones before, and it says to get some semi-strong tape, tape it to the corner or edge, and pull it off using the tape. I'm sure it also clearly said DON"T USE YOUR FINGERNAILS CAUSE IT WILL SCRATCH THE SCREENS.

I used my nail to take off my screen protector and got no scratches....

I put on my second one (I took the first one off because I sent in my DS to get a dead pixel fixed, and I forgot that its reuseable) just a while ago, it comes with a cloth to clean your screen, then you should use some scotch tape to take off the small particles that stay on the screen (take a piece of scotch tape and put it on and take it off of the screen and the protector. Don't worry, it won't damage either of them). You'll see where the left over dust particles are when you try to put it on. Then note where it is, take the protector off (you shouldn't put it completely on until its perfect), do the tape thing, and repeat til its done.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is heading to the dual screens.

April 21, 2006 - Konami today announced the inevitable: their flagship vampire-whipping series is returning to the DS this fall in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. The game will retain the 2D side-scrolling action of last year's Dawn of Sorrow, but this time out players will take control of two different characters. Vampire hunter Jonathan Morris and Charlotte Orlean, a young girl with magical abilities, team up to thwart a plan to resurrect Dracula's Castle. The player can switch between the two characters at will, and they each have unique abilities to use against the armies of the undead.

Against a WWII backdrop, a pair of evil vampire sisters takes advantage of the chaos and suffering of the era, and enlist the lost souls of the world to aid them in their plan to rebuild Drac's pad. But Jonathan and Charlotte can utilize all-new 'Summon' attacks to raise their own demons and do battle with the nefarious vampire siblings. The action takes place in all-new locations, with over 100 different enemies and findable weapons with which to battle said enemies.

Scheduled for release this fall, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin looks to continue the grand tradition of dodging medusa heads in 2D on handhelds. Stay tuned for more.

Just posted this in FGD, but since it's also a DS game I'll put it here...BTW, this comes from IGN's DS site.

The DS isn't exactly known as the place to go for arcade-style versus fighters, but with the system still topping the hardware sales charts, you just knew that was gonna change. And it has.

At the recent MMBB Online Game Festa, a King of Fighters tournament and demo event held by Online service provider KDDI on 4/22 in Tokyo, KOF series producer Falcoon announced that details on a DS version of King of Fighters would be announced in the near future.

That's all the man said. For now, take this as confirmation that a DS version of the classic arcade franchise is in development, and start praying that SNK Playmore doesn't get experimental with the stylus.

KOF on DS could be sweet, provided they don't do anything fucked up and weird (GG Dust Strikers, cough cough).

Actually, the most news sites believe that the lite will be released next month, alongside the New Super Mario Bros. game.

There's no more shortage, I think, you can get a lite for about $200 from almost any import site now.

you shouldn't have to worry about compatibility since the DS video output is not dictated by TV type: the screens are the same errrwhurr.

alot of online retailers have the lite in stock right now but the import price just isn't worth it imo. something shady is also that all those import sites wont take back the ds lites for dead pixels. i've bought a ds with 3 green dead pixels:wasted:

ok ok, how would a wifi enabled AWDS game go?? and how fast?? if 2 people are good enough a single vs match can take hours. also, if you look closely at most of the wifi games we have already they all support 4 players and won't take more than 10 minutes. i don't know about you guys but a 4 player strategy game online that is turn based will take quite long. of course some of you will argue the use of pre-deployed maps, i've thought about it too and that's probably the best way to keep games from going into long marathons. or maybe they might just let Combat mode the only thing wifi playable, but of course people will complain since that mode alone doesn't make the Advance Wars series. anyway that's my 2 cents about AW series online playable.

I was playing on and off for about two days and my score was 13 million in standard marathon endless mode. I started on level 20 and had cleared what i guess to be about 2300 lines or something like that (it stops counting at 999). I wasn't losing and was still in the middle of getting even higher. Then out of nowhere, I pick it up to play, and out of nowhere, my DS was turned off. I just played it a few hours ago and I certainly didn't turn it off. A bit of my soul died that day.

In other words just play alot and you'll eventually get used to it. The only thing there is to master at high level play is the infinite rotate trick/glitch. Always try to put pieces that are instantly there (at around level 17 and higher it gets like INSTANT) in the right place by jamming the A button to rotate them right. If you're really good you probably can play forever, the thing that kills you is boredom after awhile.

Starcraft is similar to AWDS... Starcraft games can take hours too... and people are still luving it till this day! Anyways AWDS should have been wi-fi enabled

That's for Tetris. Basically, when your piece (or "Tetrimino") gets to the bottom (where its supposed to lock in), you can keep spinning the piece and move it around still. It won't lock in until you stop spinning. Sounds really cheap, but there are some limitations.

If this wasn't mentioned already: New Castlevania infro from Nintendo Power.

- Reason for title: Time for a change from music to art. Plus the bad ass vampire in this game is an artist who paints the paintings used to teleport to different locales around the world.
- Reason for John Morris Jr. and the chick: Iga starts off thinking about gameplay systems before what timeline to do a game in and with what characters.
- Reason for two players: It was awesome in DoS to have multiple players at once?! Oh and since this is like a quasi-sequel to Bloodlines where there were two playable characters (who'd damn well better be in this game, ERIC!) then it makes sense.
- How the characters will work:
- Finally, a whip wielder (John, since not a belmont but related, must find something before being able to use the Vampire Killer. Before then he uses generic crap.) can use other weapons. Instead of souls and regular after boss techniques, killing a certain number of enemies for instance will give you a new technique like double jumping. Iga is trying to balance the focus on all of the gameplay mechanics, more like SotN and less like soul havesting AoS/DoS.
-The chick sounds like all other female magic wielders in the series cept that there's more depth to her magic than the secrect characters of yore of course. Some spells will actually take time to cast so you'll have to switch to John for protection.
- Engine has been upgraded for more enemies on screen (since there are two characters running around, IGA's added more for you to fight).
- There is still a big castle to dungeon crawl through and the world locales you teleport to through the use of the evil vampire's paintings. IGA treats the placecs outside the castles like sub dungeons. I assume he menas "You get your metroid through the castle, and classic stage by stage style gameplay with the levels located around the world."
- Possibilty of being able to sell your items to other players. How the mulitplayer will work is unknown for certain but Versus will probably stay in the game. ok ok, how would a wifi enabled AWDS game go?? and how fast?? if 2 people are good enough a single vs match can take hours. also, if you look closely at most of the wifi games we have already they all support 4 players and won't take more than 10 minutes. i don't know about you guys but a 4 player strategy game online that is turn based will take quite long. of course some of you will argue the use of pre-deployed maps, i've thought about it too and that's probably the best way to keep games from going into long marathons. or maybe they might just let Combat mode the only thing wifi playable, but of course people will complain since that mode alone doesn't make the Advance Wars series. anyway that's my 2 cents about AW series online playable.

What they should do is like Sony did for the PSP game Field Commander. Basically it is a play by email mode. You take your turn and submit it to a server. The other player then dl the data and takes his turn. And besides, just make the next version wifi compatible and all will be forgiven. And make it so you can buy COs from the get go. Making you wait til you beat the game to unlock some of the other COs=:wtf:

This has been explained already. It's not a glitch.

In order for a game to be an authentic Tetris game, there's a list of things that must be in the game. That infinite spin is on that list. It appeared in the PS2 version awhile ago, and was an option for the GC and XBox versions of the same game. Why it wasn't an option is a whole different question, but to the best of my knowledge it's required to be in the game.

For all the new games coming out on the DS, my mind is about to explode. The guy doing the conference really showed us what is what. Even for me being a much more nintendo fan than the other two compinies I really thought DS would be out of the game after all the PSP features. This really shows that people do care more about the games then all the other features.

Maybe I need to look at the footage again but when the showed the DS Lite during the press conference movies, the thing looked pretty fat. I'm not planning on picking one up anyway, waiting for the 3rd version that will most likely have a scratch resistent touch screen.

fat? the ds lite is slim as hell man. I got mine from lik-sang and it's about the size of an og Ipod with an inch more in with and height and about 1/4" in depth. It's not microsized but it's more portable than the old DS. The buttons pop out more and they're placed higher too. I can't really think of anything nintendo can do to improve on the DS Lite; any smaller and it'll be too awkward to use. drop $10 for the hori screen protector and there's your scratch resistance touch screen.

and about prime, you will need to get used to the stylus(if you choose to use it) as a means of looking, and aiming and other stuff. from what i've heard most 5-star players will dc on you once they get the vibe that they aren't going to win. all i can say is keep moving, watch out for death-alters, watch out for alters, if your playing against a trace player be sure to look out for their silouette and keep an eye on your radar, and if your playing against a spire on a stage with lava be sure to keep an eye on anything weird in the lava and KEEP MOVING!!

edit- and if your against a sylux player, keep your distance and yes, samus is over-powering

There are no servers, you're playing against random people in the nation, or worldwide that's it.

And if you want to win...you have to snake that's that. It's pretty easy to learn if you want to put time into it. It's being consistent, and learning the best line for a track is what's hard. It's basically following the same path for a track over and over again.

But then again, each game, if you wanna be good, it takes time.

And Alters...

In MPH, some alt forms are so good, people will stay in them the entire game and kill you in that form.

There are no disadvangtages to using them really, and if there are, the pros certainly outlap them... They can't be killed by headshot, they're a smaller target, faster, and can do massive damage in short periods of time. These are alters.

I would play with you, but i'm trying to beat all the games i've bought over the years and haven't really touched them. Plus i can't say my skills in mph have kept up, since it's been like a month since i've played it. And i've stopped for pretty much one reason, alters. They are pretty shitty if you ask me.

In order to play the different game modes, you have to have agreed to be either friends or rivals with the people hosting in the game (mutual friends or rivals being the exception), so there's a good chance you have an idea of how those people play already.

Battle, Survival and Prime Hunter... yeah, pretty good chance there'll be some.

Bounty and Capture mode are all about bringing in the flag to your base (Capture) or the drop off point (Bounty). You can't carry the flag in alt-form, so alt-form isn't going to exactly help you unless you're trying to kill the flag carrier in either of those two modes.

Defender and Nodes are both about holding down territory. Defender's your typical King of the Hill game, while Nodes has multiple areas around the map that players try to take over by hacking them, which takes time. Once the node belongs to a player, they'll accumulate points for it over time. Players staying in alt-form while in the territories isn't out of the question, but they should be focused on holding their ground more than killing you. Some hunters can be in alt-form and do this, but it's harder for some others. Expect to see alt-forms trying to take territory from you, and probably some players trying to defend theirs in alt-form as well.

Alt-forms aren't invincible, but certainly can be frustrating at times.

protective case or not, that thing will get scratches. no doubt. i gave up trying to take care of it after the first day, so now it's got a lot of small scratches. it's just like a psp, it will get scratches very easily even without any rough handling.
but yeah, a protective case is good despite that, and smudges\prints\scratches shouldn't show up so much on the white lites. with a navy it's a headache, so it's not worth it. play it hard, and no worries.

I highly recommend getting Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. If you don't mind a little reading and like a really enjoyable game then this is it. It was the first game I ever bought without serious thought or planning and it turned out to be the best game I've gotten so far for my DS.

Agreed. Sometimes there are times when you get stuck because you forgot a little detail which gives you the clue of what you have to do, but the game is beatable without reading a walkthrough. Sometimes I had to try my chances when picking evidence or making a choice, but at the end everything clicks once you read the reasoning behind a 'random' choice.

My only problem is that sometimes the right choice is a bit ambiguous. Like when you have to present a photo of the weapon instead of the weapon itself, or when you have the right item but you are presenting it in the wrong testimony sentence.

The last case can be very tough because the scenes are long enough that you just cannot play it straight. Playing a scene a day can make you forget relevant little details. But at the end, it was better and more enjoyable to play without help.

As someone who has owned all three of those games, I'll give my opinion on them

Castlevania is tops in platforming adventure games. It's just waaay to good. I beat the game multiple times on easy and hard difficulty, beat Julius mode (Which is probably the best extra in any castlevania game) and the soul system is more addictive than trying to eat all the pokemons. The only problem I had is when I completed boss rush mode and there was nothing left for me to do. I had all the ledgendary weapons and items, 100% souls and castle. After that the game was useless.

Mario and Luigi is really fun. It's just really fun. It's also over really fast. It's not as good as paper mario thousand year door, but I'd say it's fairly close. The items are really fun to use. Solid light hearted rpg.

Advance wars... This game will keep you busy till the end of time. I don't know anybody that actually has all 300 medals. It's similar to Fire emblem, but you get a more arcade-ee feel to the gameplay because the animation style and the fact that your forces are expendable. Very solid game. Probably a must buy for DS owners.

I can't trade in my regular DS.
Because I'm in the middle of a Tetris DS game that's been going on for over a week on and off. My score right now is like 23 million. I want to break the world record, and I will do it.

If I were to buy one, I wouldn't trade in my old DS. And they might not even except it, it's pretty damn scratched up.
But buying a Lite would let me play some other games while my regular DS is in Tetris mode.


But I only have like $140 or something. Just enough to buy one.
But I also want to buy New Super Mario Bros., Brain Age, and Age of Empires DS. And I won't get another influx of cash until about August. And if the Wii releases before Christmas, I need to have money ready. I also want to get a 360 sometime soon. So using my Birthday money to get a Wii then Christmas money for a 360 would be nice.

i've played trauma center and it's OK. plays just like you think it does -> a bit of a story driven game where you use the stylus for those surgery techniques and stuff.

Trauma center is ...wierd. It's more like a tech demo for the ds wrapped around a decent (if predictable) storyline.

The graphics are ok but the game itself... other then one scene where you actually dissect somethign thats NOT a person, its pretty monotone. The difficulty just comes in how the diseases/injuries the people get are more and more extreme to the point of being ridiculous that the person didnt die long before you got to them.

That can't be right. I got a 1260g and got a B-. 2000 is insanely high; that's higher than Dr. Lobe's score which was around 1400-1700g. You should have gotten an A+++++ if you got 2,030g.

So... I returned nintendogs after a day. Couldn't really stand the game after 20 minutes. Also, I picked up Advanced Wars... I'm REALLY close to returning this. One of the main things that annoys me is the fact that indirect weapons can't move and fire on the same turn and a lot of the times when i'm trying to position it, the other army just moves right up to it and destroys it.

Just get a wireless router for $30 and PLEASE don't get online unless you have broadband.

Linksys is good, and can be set up by plugging and playing.

I reccomend making sure the router has at least 4 wired ports too.

I just finished playing Super Princess Peach yesterday and after it's all over, the game was fun.

Yes, the game was really easy and having an ability to recover your life seemed to drop the difficulty a few pegs but I still liked the game. The several different powers that Peach got were all interesting and the game used them well (like some stages having you use your crying power to run quickly as you're being chased). I rented it through Gamefly since I was a little cautious about buying it and now I'm awaiting the next game that they're going to send me.

Try going to a Fry's Electronics, they started carrying import recently(?) and I was able to get Jump Superstars and Bleach DS for $49.99 each. I know you could probably get them for a bit cheaper, but this price is comparable to Amazon and you don't have to hassle with shipping. Fry's sucks, but they've got good DS & PSP games now. I thought they were nuts about putting that mission in but apparently I came across it the other day and finished it with all 5 patients. The trick is actually just to do only 3 of the 5 patients they have you work with. When the time limit expires but you finished 3 patients, the "backup" should take care of the rest of the patients. For some reason when I reached the final patient in that level, the clock was at zero but Angie suggested I work on him since we all ready started. Pretty weird but a great game. One that'll test you if you want to throw your DS against the wall.

i beat trauma center today. that game is still whack. somehow I got lucky against 3rd sin or managed to find a pattern. i got down to 6 triangles left in 30 secs, with 4:30 left and still lost a couple of times. Last boss was seemingly impossible at first but still wasn't a bitch like 3rd sin.

hardest things in that game
1) Triti virus (regenerating triangles) namely 3rd sin, first time you encounter it is easy, just HT it and it's over. Couldn't even do it with the step by step picture guide on gamefaqs.
2) Tie between Savato (spider web) and Kyriaki (the invisible slashing sperm things)

The bonus missions are even dumber, can't even beat the 1st one.

Oh and Yeah

One that'll test you if you want to throw your DS against the wall.

Bleach is better, and more user friendly. On the main menu, he actually says what it is in English... like, "Sto-ree Mode-a" and "Cha-lenge Mode-A"... Bleach is way better with the wi-fi capability, and I heard it's more strategic than JSS.. I've never owned JSS and I never will...

But JSS2 is coming out within the year AND will have Wi-Fi capability! WHOA?!
