Apparently she didn't know how to play on the DS at first, so you can count on those two rounds as a wash.

I think that the people that beat her deeper in (wins 3 and 4) were genuine. I've seen better tetris players, so I wonder just how those people were the ones decided to play her.

Still want Portrait. :(

Hikaru Utada stuff
From Wiki (don't count as much I guess?) it mentions that she was an avid Tertis player and usually post/brags about her scores and stuff on her blog. During that contest, Nintendo were reported to have sent some of their hidden expert players or "assasains" as they called them and she still beat them a few of them.

Maybe one of the few that beat her were the assasains but she didn't seem like some Tertis scrub. Nintendo calling someone an "expert" could probably be taking with a gain of salt vs. a real random hardcore Japanese Tertis freak(some of the people that beat her look crazy as fuck..)...but none of that doesn't matter because she is fucking fine.

That's all that really needed to be said. You'd think that from all the Jap girls pictured in cosplay, some of them would look decent unmasked. But seriously, there were some gargoyles up in that showcase.

I finally got highspeed internet so it's time for me to buy one of those wi-fi dongles and jump online (they do work w/ macs, right?)

Anyway, which online game should I buy first, Mario Kart or Tetris?

Just googled it, its not Mac compatible. Your best bet is to get a cheap router (probably around the same price as the dongle or maybe up to $10 more).

Use this compatibility list:
http://www.nintendowifi.com/customersupport/supportedRouters.do

Find one that has a good rating and price (you'll have to research the price), then you should be good to go. If you need help setting it up for the DS, PM me, I'd be glad to help.

There are 4 games that I am looking EXTREMELY forward to these up coming weeks.

1. Megaman ZX - comes out on the 12th, first megaman to play like castlevania/metroid in which you play in one big continuous world.
2. Children of Mana - I'm a big Secret of Mana fan, and even though Sword of Mana sucked, I have high hopes for this one
3. Castlevania PoR - I'm not sure I have to explain too much for this one... if you're not excited for this one then you haven't played Dawn of Sorrow.
4. Phoenix Wright: Attorney for All or something... - I first played Phoenix Wright and I wasn't that much impressed... yeah it's a good game but I thought the first 4 Trials were pretty bland. But once you get to the final Trial, that's when the game stems off of the GBA rehash and starts implementing more DS capabilities. So hopefully, the sequel will be a lot like the last trial of the first game.

And for everybody else... you should get Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan... this game is like crack.

Don Knotts
09-03-2006, 07:17 PM
On the new Phoenix Wright, I'm pretty sure that it's a GBA port, and not a true DS sequel, so don't expect much in the way of use os DS capabilities.

Other "Hot" upcoming games

Contact- Looks like an insane 2D RPG. The DS keeps rolling out the games that defy convention.

Elite Beat Agents- Semi sequel to Ouendan, for those who built up a tolerance to the above mentioned crack like game.

Final Fantasy 3- Probably the best 3D graphics on the DS, and a totally exclussive revamp of the one Final Fantasy game never localized.

Magical Starsign- This is to Children of Mana what Critters is to Gremlins. If you don't get that reference, you are probably to young to appreciate 2D action RPG's.

Mario Hoops 3 on 3- From the sounds of it, this is yet another game that uses touch screen controls that doesn't suck. Developed by Square-Enix, this game features generic Final Fantasy characters (Black Mage, Chocobo, etc) playing sweat drenched, trash talking street ball against the likes of Toad, Maria, and Yoshi. Shit is bound to rock hard.

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl- Updated graphics, WiFi trading and battling. If you hate Pokemon, this game likely wont change your mind. But if you used to like it or burnt out the games, or have never played it, this might be the game for you.

Cooking Mama- Hardcore cooking sim.

And thats just of the top of my head. I'm sure there are more.

The DS has smoked the PSP so hard in terms of games, it's comparable to the Saturn vs PS1 blow out of yester year. I have a PSP, and am happy about the fact that there are finally more than three good games for the damn thing. Only took two years. The DS has that many good games released for it in a month.

Seriously, to name the top five DS games is impossible. It all depends on your taste. It's almost like saying "What are the top 5 movies out on DVD". Depends on what kind of movies you like. I personally would say Castlevania DS, Animal Crossing, New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart DS, and Advance Wars DS.

Um, are you thinking of FF3US, FF6j, because that is an old ass game with old ass graphics.

I've seen the FF3 DS graphics, and they are new ass to say the least. And I heard the story and battle system were totally revamped.

In fact, it's FF12 that I have heard has the awful story. I'll still be getting it, as I love the new gameplay as evidenced in the DQVIII demo. But from all accounts, the plot is weak.

I haven't really been into a FF game's plot since FF4 anyway.

Can't wait for Contact(Grasshopper game, makers of Killer7) and Rocket Slime(A slime that drives a tank, what's not to like?). Those are my two biggies coming up, in addition to Portrait of Ruin. Touch Detective also looks interesting.

I heard that EBA has a fubar song list, does anybody know them? Wiki lists two songs currently, one is good one is lame(hint: deep purple is not lame).
Also I've been hearing bad things about both Mario Hoops and Cooking Mama. It's just as well, I won't have time to play all these games anyway.

Pass Mes are simply a type of small hardware that trick your DS into loading code from the GBA spot while operating in DS Mode (as if a DS game is being played) so that unsigned code (like commerial DS and GBA roms for instance) can run on it.

Just a fancy device you can't be without if you plan on buying a flash cart with the intention of playing DS roms. They're sort of obsolete now since newer generations of it have been manufactored. You're best bet is to buy a No Pass since most PMs had to be ran with a DS game... or had external batteries that required periodic charging. A No Pass is the third generation of Pass Me devices thus it does the same exact thing a Pass Me does... just better.

What is the house of koda kumi?
she has an okay face but a banging body, and her kansai-ben is sexy. although i havnt seen her on TV as much these days... but then again i havnt been watchin alot of TV lately

The House of KoKu is a joke between me and Warpticon. He put me up on Kumi a while back on IRC and I've seen the light ever since. We're fans of her sexually excessive music videos, swagger, and overall cuteness.

I'd put one hell of a hurting on her for sure. God damn... she's scrumptious.

Ok, well, I'll take that in to account.

It wouldn't be the first time I was disappointed by a turn based RPG.

I think I'm getting to old for them. So tedious.

I have a Japanese DS, and the charger is universal, even says so on it. But I'm not sure for the Lite.

IIRC though in general for Japanese electronics you can use them in North America, just that you may have to use extension cords (well I do for my JP PS2) to lower down the voltage or something like that, don't quote me here since I don't know the real technical reason for it. =x

Yep, the story is pretty straight forward and you dont need to know japanese to understand the story at all.

basically, people who are in trouble (whether making a sculpture, girl trouble, fighting giant mutant rats, defending against gigantic meteors) yell out.. Are there any plans for a Pokemon game(traditional style) that will allow network battles in the future? Or perhaps such a game is already out...?

The game I'm looking forward to the most on the DS is FF:Crystal Chronicles. The GC version was so damn fun with 4 players that Im going to force 3 of my friends to buy that shit as soon as it hits the DS. Probably some of the best multiplayer/teamwork gameplay in any game.
Also looking forward to FF3 but I've been hearing some pretty bad stuff about it.

I can tell you Megaman ZX will definitely be the best Megaman game to come out in a looong time.
The graphics\music\gameplay are all great, I can't wait for the english vers.!
Have you guys played the new star fox command game? It plays\controls surprisingly well, and the graphics are just like the old n64 game..solid.

Too bad the rest of the good games will be coming out late Q4..

This is the first DS game since Castlevania PoR was annouced that I am excited about.

Don't read the preview, just watch the videos. The game looks like all sorts of fun. And it has a good chance of coming here...

USA Capcom took out the voice overs(japanese) in Megaman ZX! There are no new voice overs, they just removed the originals, although the cutscenes still have the original audio(with subs). Looks like they were too lazy to create new audio for that.

Also, Kingdom Hearts character designer Tetsuya Nomura is involved in an RPG for DS, it looks pretty awesome, kinda similar to Chain of Memories.

FFXII is getting a sequel on DS too, called FFXII: Revenant Wings. It's looking like it's about Vaan and Penelo's lives as sky pirates. Looks like they realized somewhere along the way poor Vaan and Penny got screwed out of any plot whatsoever in XII and started making some reparations.

The DS FFXII game is a total slap in the face to Sony and the PSP. I'm pretty shocked about it.

definitely a big difference in quality, get the hori ones(not the ones from ebay because those are fake). I got the ones from gamestop and they kept getting bubbles and dust trapped under so i ordered the hori ones which kept everything out without bubbles/dust and there are still no scratches even though i had it for 2 months.

First off is there a protective case for ds that isn't too big or bulky and allowd me to play the ds inside it like the logitech case for the psp?

Also i jus bought my ds 3 days ago and i have sonic/metroid/new mario/and mm zx for it ans here are the games i plan to get in the future in order: (only counting games that are already out)

mario kart
mech assault
castlevania
meteos
kirby
phoenix wright
starfox
advance wars
trauma center
brain age

What are the good games coming out this year for ds cuz i see for ds is ff3/castlevania2/and spiderman/ and if that's all ds can come up with by the end of this year then psp will PWN ds liek no other system before cuz compare that top what psp will be coming out with by the end of the 06:

capcom classics collection reloaded-10/24
killzone liberation 10/31
powerstone collection 10/31
every extend extra 11/2
lumines2 11/2
socom2 11/7
sega genesis collection 11/7
mgs portable ops 12/1

...yeah i hate to say it cuz i love my ds it's great but this list definitively owns ds

BTW i think sonic rush is the best ds game so far simply cuz it's fun and the dual screen gameplay is tight.

Have fun trying to get castlevania and phoenix wright. Most likely you'll have to ebay phoenix wright down and then they'll mark it up like crazy.

StarFox sucks... but that's my opinion. Same with Kirby Canvas. Infact I hate all games where it's primarily stylus, not including meteos and trauma center.

And for your psp list... nothing on there appeals to me besides lumines 2 and powerstone. And even then, I don't wanna pay 200 bucs for a psp.

Just picked up Megaman Zx and Big Brain Academy. Haven't touched the old DS since I picked up Castlevania:DoS.

Anyway, Megaman ZX is some serious good shit. I only complaint I have is with the current map system. They should have copied Castlevania:DoS and put the Mini-Map on the bottom half of the screen.

I'm using the default control system-1- dash is L and laser is R, and jump is B. After playing countless hours on Mario-Kart, I suddenly remembered having my hand cramped playing these bad boy games (I have the first gen-DS).

My question is this: I"m thinking of picking up the DS:Lite, but does it solve the "cramp-hand" posture problem on old DS's?

Um, what?

You just listed 10 DS games you are looking forward to getting, then 8 PSP games you want, then say that you think the PSP coming soon that you want? 10-8=2. There are 2 more DS games that you want.

So, edit your post or something, because it's freaking me out with it's backwards reality.

And out of the PSP games you listed, 3 are ports of games I've had for at least 5 years. What is exciting about that?

I am looking forward to MGS:PO and I'm curious about EEE, but other than that the PSP totally loses. I have both a PSP and a DS, and I can say that the only two games for the PSP I have really enjoyed are Mega Man: Powered Up and Loco Roco. Everything else is a port or a watered down sequel.

There's a battery on the back. You can see where it is on the bottom right. You can play online when you set up your wi fi through any game. Each game has an individual friend code that you give to other people so they can add you to their friends list.

I don't know every game online but some are:
Metroid Prime Hunters
Animal Crossing:Wild World
Mario Kart DS
Tetris DS

I'm not sure if anymore at the moment

The stylus won't hurt your DS as far as I know. I've been using it without a screen protector and no scratches so far. Just don't press down hard and go crazy with it.

ChairHome
09-21-2006, 08:35 AM
I would recommend a screen protector to both of you. It can get scratched if there's dust on the screen (I know from experience). Get a Hori one.

The battery is there, but you can't take it out (without some serious work). You just have to charge it.

If you have wireless, you have to use one of the wifi enabled games to set up your wireless connection.

evilmuffinmanX
09-21-2006, 08:43 AM
ok it comes with a charger so i do have to charge it with the charger and then play it or do plug in the charger and play without waiting?

when i play mk it asks for a code?

ChairHome
09-21-2006, 09:06 AM
You should charge it first, but you can charge and play without waiting. The code it wants is a friend code, which you need to play specific people online. If you choose to play against anyone (not friends specifically), you don't need a code.

I just got one of these for free about a month ago, but I haven't bought any games for it yet. I've been looking for Castelvania:Dawn of Sorrow, but it's a bitch to find apparently. I don't understand Konami's logic: Let's produce a very limited number of what will most likely be the DS's most popular game so we can screw ourselves out of more cash. This thing is impossible to find and it's getting annoying.

Can you guys suggest anything else worth my while? I'd preferably like something that makes good use of the stylus, but you can suggest any decent titles. I mostly like rpg's, adventure games(metroid/castlevania style) and shootem-ups.

Thanks

I also got Megaman zx and I gotta say I was kinda reluctant. Thank god they got rid of that stupid ass grading system from the zero games that actually discouraged you from using powerups. This feels like a mix of the zero and x series, but in a good way. The rpg elements don't seem too forced so far either.

Now to get castlevania.

For Wifi, what do you need help on? This FAQ has a nice translation of it by Sixfortyfive:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/game/929449.html

For strategies, I think you should play some matches first before worrying about what strategies to X-copy first just so you can get a feel for the game.

Edit: And I hear there is no netplay for SvC: Cardfighter Clash? My interest of that game has gone down if that's the case.

So I'm thinking about getting the USB Connector ($35) device since my router can't handle the DS unless I change a couple of things in it (which is a big no no). It's kind of expensive but there's no real choice unless I go to the nearest McDs just to play a few disconnected rounds in Mario Kart. There's also the perk to use it where ever I am like at school or work. If there is a better alternative I'd like to know.

Also, does anyone else have/had a busted shoulder button? My L shoulder button on my DS won't work sometimes. Is there a way to fix it or should I get it repaired by pros?

P.S. Oh and my battery power on the DS has become crappy. I imagine I'll have to buy it new too. Guess this is what I get for getting it used. :arazz:

no its my moms

i typed in the number under the modem and that didnt work...

It's not the number under the modem or router or anything like that. A WEP key is a security function, pretty much the same as a password, of your wireless router so that only people who know the key can access the router to use the internet, to prevent your next door neighbor from leeching off you and such. It's in hexadecimal format, so it's a randomly generated alpha-numeric phrase.

If your router is secured using a WEP key, then it's the same exact WEP key that you use when your computer logs onto your router to use the internet via its wifi connection. That is a key that you should always have written down safely somewhere. The WEP key is established whenever you first set up your router and you can try and look at your router settings through your computer and see if you can figure out the WEP key from there if it's not written down somewhere else. Figuring out how to see your router settings differs from router to router, so you'll have to consult your router manual...

There's a possibility that the router is secured via other means, such as WPA, Mac-address filtering etc. If THIS is the case, then you're screwed, because the DS doesn't support WPA, afaik. So if this is indeed the case, looks like you'll have to get the USB connector thingie and use that on your computer that's already logged into the internet.

You have to consult your manual or whatever for your router to find out your security settings. When your computer uses the internet wirelessly, does it use a WEP key to log onto your router? If it does, that same WEP key is the one use for your DS.

If your computer does not use a WEP key and your router is instead, WPA secured, you have to consult your router manual to find out how to switch your router settings to WEP. It's different for every router.

Obviously it seems you don't have much experience when it comes to wifi stuff and you probably didn't set up your router, so it's probably best to talk to the person who actually did set up your router who has a better understanding of wifi security.

I'm not sure, but I wouldn't put it past the realm of possibility that you could use the wifi USB stick for 56k. The USB stick you put in your computer, from what I believe, simply broadcasts a wifi signal like any router, so as long as you're connected to the internet at all, it'll transmit data regardless of connection type and be picked up by the DS. You can probably give it a shot.

Man, this Children of Mana game sucks balls.

All you do is go from Dungeon to Dungeon and kill monsters. You don't even get to kill monsters in a cool way, all you do is a triple slash combo. Top it off, I was expecting your mana spells to be cool like Secret of Mana (ie: Gem Missiles / Gnome), but magic in this game generally sucks, and takes forever to cast.

It feels like I'm playing a crappy Link.

If the story in this game was half-way decent, it could be considered salvagable. Save the $35 bucks =(

I'm dissapointed with Phoniex Wright 2 (and I never thought I'd end up saying that)

The 'logic' of the cases is even harder to follow than in the original, and the new life-bar is terrible because you don't get it replenished at the end of each day. If I finish the court section with low health, I get that low health carried over to the detective section (which now has a cross-examination type section which uses the life-bar).

This is probably the final straw and I shall be selling my DS pretty soon, I think.

Hm... ok, *SPOILER WARNING*

I'm at the spiritual healing place at the point where the kid is at the front gate and has two locks holding her secret. The crazy lady is in the main chamber.

I have virtually no "health" (barely made it through the court stage) and am mad because, unless I restart the stage, I have only enough health to have one attempt at unlocking. Are there any secrets I can use to get health back at this point?

ChairHome
11-08-2006, 01:19 PM
Well, since you have no health, you can pretty much just guess. When you lose all your health during the investigation phase, there's no real penalty. You'll stop trying to unlock the secret, but you won't 'die'. You can try again by using the "unlocking item" again.

Lebowsk1
11-08-2006, 01:32 PM
Yeah, it's just really awkward doing it that way. I don't know why they didnt use a separate system for the court sections and the investigative sections.... grr. It's hard enough working out what the game expects of you. I may even use a walkthru for the rest of that stage, and then on the next stage make sure only to save while I have full 'health'.

Yoshi Island DS is VERY good, I was a little scared about how they would incorporate the two screens, however they do it without making it awkward which makes me happy =)

Is anybody playing magical starsign? I give up on RPGs for DS. I think Contact is barely mediocre.

Well just for the record; SNK vs. Capcom Card Clash DS' site (game.snkplaymore.co.jp[/url) is now open, but there is no option for English/Engrish text >_<.
I found a shop that's seeling a DS with 2 games, so far I'm planning for FFIII & SvC CC DS, but in case I don't find those games; what are some games that you would recommend I purchase?

Cosign about Children of Mana. Im bout to trade this shit.

I was thinking the same thing. I mean, it's not a terrible game, but it's meant to be played with more people. And since they didn't add Wi-Fi to the game, it's pretty much impossible.

Anyone played Final Fantasy III yet? I was probably going to trade in Children of Mana towards that when it comes out.

That game doesn't drop till Nov. 14. And yeah, I'm most likely going to trade in Children of Mana for FFII as well.

Has anyone played Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles? They're making one for the DS and it's coming out on December:

I've never played the first one and I'm wondering if the series is any good. Also if you can share your impressions of the game single player vs. multiplayer that would be great too.

Last topic on FF; Final Fantasy V came out in the states (The one w/ Butz?). I was wondering if anyone picked it up yet. Granted it came out for the GBA, but I felt it would be appropriate if I posted here.

Some people have played the japanese version of FF3 on DS. I hear its pretty, but the story is a little bland. I love job systems though, and I hear that part is fun at least. My brother picked up FF V Advance, but I haven't had a chance to play it yet. I hear its good.

Oh, and you posted the wrong link, unless you're calling FF: CC an 8000 calorie burger.

Well I'm getting the hang of the Psych-lock system in PW2 and have unlocked Pearl's secret. Actually I finished the rest of that investigative section and am looking forward to playing the next court section. I didnt check a walkthru because there is nothing more frustrating than using one for an adventure game and then realising you could have easily figured it out for yourself given another 5 minutes.

I'll definitely finish the game, and shouldnt have judged it a dissapointment so early on.

Is Yoshi's Island 2 as good as the original?

EDIT: Is it just me or does Franziska look like she's just stepped straight out of a Castlevania game...

I got a super card... but I only use it for ds games. I have an iPod for mp3's and the supercard drains at ur DS battery as is so I'm not sure how a movie would work on it. Plus the thought of watching a movie on my ds seems sorta stupid

CV: PoR isn't out yet, is it? I thought it didn't ship until December 5th.

I sure do look forward to that though. Thankfully, this week is YI DS, and that should keep me amused until PoR.

Jap version is out. It's pretty cool. The switch characters system is like something out of Castlevania 3 only more fun. Keeping only one skill equipped at a time is kind of lame but the two characters at once thing makes up for it with some cool puzzles and I'm hoping some of the boss fights later on will get crazy. (Boss fights where you have to switch in the middle of combat?)

Yoshi's Island DS is out now. Pretty fun. I have Baby Mario, Peach, and DK so far. Baby DK is hella fun to play as, though I am confused as to why he gets the explosive eggs and dash attack, when those seem more like traditional Wario things to me. According to the manual, Baby Wario's moves involve magnets? Weird. And previously unannounced, apparently fireball-blasting Baby Bowser is playable, too. Anyway, it is pretty fun. I have to go back and revisit Worlds 1-7 and 1-8 now that I have DK.
