It's strange, I find more comp at the CSULB arcade then I do at any other arcade I visit. 5 coin deep lines all the time when I drop by between classes. It just sucks that the skill level is sub-par, so I don't really feel like I am improving. I really want to, but I don't know if I am, because there are only like 2-3 people there who give me a challenge. (40+ wins one day with A-Honda, Eagle, 2-Rolento... if I can get that streak, that tells you the level of competition, since me = scrub).

I doubt Regency will ever get CvS2 back. Too much money for an underfunded arcade. What about FFA? Haven't stopped by there in ages. Everyone keeps telling me to go to CGL, but I'm not about to drive all the way out there on a gamble.

If we all set a date to meet, it might make the trip there less worthless... so its either that, or start meeting up at peoples houses for console.

So Karen would probably be the contact for getting the machines on event mode, or asking to have extended hours for tournies, or other services. Their job is to provide service to the students, so if we ask nicely, we could possibly get some nice hookups. Another contact is the On Campus Entertainment (OCE) representative. I believe they're the company supplying the machines(?). You can find his handle at the ucla thread; I believe it's "OCEguy." He's posted before about setting the machines to event mode.

I wouldn't mind doing the legwork/contacting if you guys are serious interested in having tournies. I just need a date set to work with.

I got verbal confirmation that I can throw another Fighting Game tourney at Powerstation. I'm planning to post preliminary details soon, and then verify them when it's 100% confirmed. CvS2 has been moved to a smaller cabinet, and CFE is on the big screen one. So either I will get opticals put into the small cabinet, or I'll have to move it back to the big one. If I get opticals into the small cabinet, it'll be CvS2, MvC2, and CFE tourney. If not, it will be CvS2 and MvC2 tourney.

Trust me, those sticks were terrible. I tried to play on them with Kevin (violet), and we couldn't do anything. Well, I couldn't do anything, they were loose as fuck. Couldn't do my supers or anything, was really frustration. Kevin was RCing nearly 100% accuracy, much to my surprise, I think he has more practice on the shitty sticks haha.

Oh, as for 3S, the arcade doesn't have it, which is why I wouldn't mind doing a CSULB tourney.

For parking, you can buy an all day pass for like $2.50 instead of paying by the minute. Much better, there are machines all over the parking lots that have signs on them that you can buy from.

Cons:

Shitty ass sticks.
Shitty ass buttons.
Expensive drinks and food.
Real CVS2 only on japanese

Pros:

Decent compitition i suppose.
Atleast they HAD japanese cabs.
REAL version of CVS2 on japanese.
Extreme 3s comp, obviously.
No entry fee.

uh... don't talk to people who know nothing about the game. mostly any character can win in cvs2 just like i think mostly any character in 3s can be a winner... i mean look at KSK with Alex, i don't think Alex is really top tier by any means and i play that fool and do ok with him. Its not a broken 4 character fucked up game like mvc2, its just a matter of putting them in the right grooves. yea of course some characters are gonna be more dominant, but what game doesn't have that... fact is, RCing saved the game and has made it more balanced.

People use frame info for every fighting game really. This game is very balanced for the roster of characters, I've honestly never heard someone say it was unbalanced and predictable

I love how I was talking strategy with some guys the other day at CSULB, and I was talking about chuns df+HK overhead, and I used it to cross up, un-cross up, and generally take down one guy for a round. After that, I was talking about how it was called an ambigious cross up. The guy there laughed and said, "You're overcomplicating the game. Its just punch - kick." I had to roll my eyes.

What I really wanted to say was "If thats true, how come I haven't ever seen you win a match, and I can stay on the machine for an hour?" But that would have led to even more scrub debate I guess.

As far as balance goes, you can pick Sagat, whore C.FP, and get some wins. By the same token, you can spend some time developing an underused character, get a gameplan down, and win some matches. The problem is that the time it takes to learn sagat is exponentially less than the time it takes to learn, say, Yuri. In the end, sagat is still greater than yuri, but by no means is she not able to hold her own. Any well played mid-tier would dominate a scrubby sagat any day of the week. In contrast, no matter how fucking top tier your Roll is, you're never gonna beat Sentinel.

well, K Ryo is deadly... probably his best groove. Combofiend showed me that shit, im convinced Ryo can fight anyone in the game now... too many mixups and that 70% damage combo into super is ridiculous. Not to mention the insane dizzy points he sets up... great character overall.

I'll try to come thursday. I have a PS2, CvS2, AE, MvC2, and CFE. I don't drink though, so no beer for me. I also have 2 sticks, ones a red octane one I modded myself a long time ago, and another is a pelical universal I modded as well. Plus 2 table trays that they velcro to (can't stand playing with it in my lap or on the floor). I have a third RO stick I modded, but I leant it out and haven't got it back since EVO.

CvS2 for Xbox sucks because of the no RC, which I'm practicing, so blah on that version.

I also have a DC, but no games or sticks for it, haha.

Bad news, my PS2 blew the rumble feature or whatever last time we got together and played. That means my second stick (the pelican universal) doesn't work anymore. I have to try and see if there is a way to fix the rumble, otherwise I only have one working stick for a get together.

For some reason, the Pelican Universal PCB draws power from the PS2's rumble feature. It sometimes draws too much power, thus shorting it out. I have used it for months with no problems, not sure why it kicked it now. So without it able to draw power, it just means it won't respond. It still works for X-Box and GC though. So its still usable on live.

I am going to see if its possible to rig a battery pack for power and make it work.
