-Orochimaru was once part fo the Akatuski, so he should've known about the Jinchuuriki
-He found out Naruto as one during the chuunin exams
-Gaara was also around at the time, in fact, Orochimaru was working with the Sand, so he should've been able to find out that Gaara was also a Jinchuuriki.
-They were both relatively weak and easy to capture at the time (He actually caught Naruto).

So....if he know that they had immense powers within them, why didn't he try to extract that for himself?

Lots of people in this community have already suggested that Orochimaru's Immortality jutsu wouldn't be much of a success on a Jinchuuriki, since there might be some conflict between his soul and the presence of the Bijuu.

The most likely answer is that neither Gaara or Naruto fit his mold. He seems much more concerned with the talent and personality of the vessel, things that would allow him to reach his goal of getting all known jutsu, rather than their raw power. Sasuke had the Sharingan, but Orochimaru was in no big hurry to swap bodies with Sasuke(until it came pretty much necessary for his own health to do so) as he wanted to "mold" Sasuke's personality more to his liking.

Orochimaru wants to learn all the jutsus in the world, not get a monster inside him. He's already at Sannin level, he doesn't need a power boost.

Sasuke = easy way to do that cause you can just copy everything. He wanted Itachi too, but Itachi is crazy. Sasuke is angsty and easily manipulated.

That's why he wants Sasuke and only Sasuke. Lol at Noodleman finding more plotholes. And Lol at Sai desperately trying to find some depth in a very shallow well.

I don't think Oro looks all that deep into who he gets his bodies from. He just wants a strong body. I don't think their personalities matter either, I mean he's switched bodies like 4-5 times or whatever, if what you're trying to say is true, he'd be roguing out right now not being able to contain those personalities in his mind.

He just takes over the body, it's like what captain ginyu does, only the person he switches with dies.

He's only switched 3 times, Genyuumaru included. We don't know who the other two are, but I bet he brainwashed them before making the swap unlike Genyuumaru.

The only part of my post that's all theory are the bits about the Jinchuuriki(Orochimaru being one, and there being conflict if he ever tried to use that Kinjutsu on one), the rest has been noted in the series and the Databook. Personality and talent does mean a lot to Orochimaru when choosing his vessel.

Hate to post spoilers before Wednesday because of the high probability of them being fake, but this might be real:

"On a new journey...!!"
Because Yamato has already been to Kusagakure once for an A-rank mission to protect the Daimyo of Kusagakure, he explains the general things he knows about Kusagakure.
As for the road to Kusagakure, the way of going to Kusagakure is through this forest, progressing straight forward over the Kikyou river to the north, passing over Tenchi-bridge
However, this time, because of the chance of meeting "Akatsuki" and people connected to Orochimaru, taking the usual road is dangerous.
Therefore, to be able to get to the meeting, they have to detour and use another way to go to Kusagakure... (He shows Naruto-tachi a pen-drawn map)
Since there is still time before the meeting with the spy, they head to Kusagakure no Sato, in order to prepare their equipment, and move to Tenchi-bridge.
Why? For two reasons:
How boooring it is. Usually, folks who go out of their way to post fake spoilers, they are much too detailed, and they make the chapter sound incredibly exciting.
The mention of "Kikyou river". It's a possible tie-in to the Kikyou Mountain Pass, where Kabuto was found as a child.
So yeah, just throwing it out there for those two reasons. I like how we've been getting fake spoilers with Sasuke's silhouette making an appearance for like half a year now.

I think Akatsuki is only going after tailed beasts. I'm not sure if you can only have a tailed beast sealed in you or not, but I don't think it's required. I don't remember reading it, anyway

Reason Gaara couldn't sleep was because of the method used to seal Shuukaku, more than Shuukaku itself.

Naruto has his healing factor and quick transformations because of the way Yondaime's 8-Part Shiki Fuujin Seal seaps the Kyuubi's chakra to Naruto's when he needs it. With Gaara and the Ichibi, he was more possessed by the thing.

LOL@beast. Nah, Naruto hasn't reached the Steve Urkel level, but they aren't cutting the guy much slack. I agree on the need for Naruto to learn something more than the rasengan and cloning tricks. Other than Kakashi, most of them are bad about milking one trick over and over. Most of the others are spared because they don't get the screen time that Naruto gets. I took a break from the regular series and watched the Naruto Movie and OAV 1&2. Since I felt after episode 100 would be a good place to watch them. Now I realized that I probably should not have watched OVA 2 and the Race Storylines so close together because Shibuki ( http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v93/dragonsama/shibuki.gif ) and Idate ( http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v93/dragonsama/morino_idate.jpg) look almost exactly alike.

We had a discussion about power tiers quite a few pages back. Debating about the higher-tiered characters is dumb, there's too many variables to consider, and Kishimoto doesn't really like to make the difference clear.

But I guess discussing Kakashi v Itachi is fine. Kakashi said outright in Chapter 257 that he couldn't take on Itachi by himself, and that's with a way to avoid all of Itachi's Sharingan Genjutsu, and a possible way to dispel Tsukuyomi.

Itachi used three Mangekyou Sharingan techniques in a day as well, and while he didn't even have enough chakra to keep his regular ol' Sharingan active, he was still able enough to at least stay mobile. Well, at least the Mango Kakashi Vs. Mango Itachi isn't nearly as insane as the Itachi Vs. Gaara (the Gaara with the Jinchuriki that is. )

As far as the Mango vs. Mango battle, It's tough, but based on what we know, I think Kakashi just MIGHT do it. Understand, this is because that after all this time, we know nearly nothing about Itachi. K's a mystery in some ways, but we know more about him. Explaination coming up........................Now.

K and I meet. it's the middle of the street, both are at full power, and both go Mango right off the bat. Itachi is initially surprised, seeing Kakashi's eye change to a shape that is previously never been seen. this lasts for less than 1/100th of a second and Itachi goes for the old brain donkey punch. Kakashi wisely closes his eyes to avoid it, and runs to a safe spot outside of the distance of the brain puncher, launching a few counter-jutsus along the way.

Itachi, noticing the speed, goes into one of those long ass Japanese Villian speeches which really breaks down to," well. that new eye isn't just a contact lense, huh Kakashi? Looks like you've got some power behind that eye. let's see what you've got."

Kakashi, after patiently waiting through the whole speech, fires of with a," okay. I'll show you what I am capable of." Itachi fires off with the Black fire no jutsu in an attempt to end this early. Kakashi, not knowing the full effect of the Amaterasu, tries water..................No good. it burns through it like it wasn't there. only Kakashi's quick wits and body help him to avoid instant death from the black fire that can burn through a fire toad's belly.

Kakashi quickly realizes what's up with the previously unknown super jutsu from Itachi, and forms a plan.
He lets off with a Naruto-Esqe Kage Bunshin, that Itachi shoots down in a way that would make any shooter fan proud enough to splooge on themselves. ( he really kicked some ass. I wish you could've seen it. ) while Itachi was shooting holes in the fakes, he was preping his mango sharingan for the counter, which comes in the form of Itachi launching another Tsukiyomi on Kakashi.

...............But wait!! It was only one of the clones!!! with Itachi's eyes diverted, Kakashi has a free shot at Itachi's back. With one Kunai, Kakashi beats Itachi into submission...........And a very disgusting pulp.

the part one they are talking about means anything before the timeskip in the Manga. the mission to bring Sasuke back to Konoha is the end of part 1 for anime purists.

They still have a couple of days until they meet up with the Akatsuki spy. If they sustain light injuries, or run low on chakra, they've got an excellent Medical Ninja to patch them up, and a few nights to recover their chakra(one night is enough).

Any show/series that starts out with a bang is going to have fillers to juice it for all it's worth. Compare season 1 of Naruto to the current season. The more characters and connections they include, the more episodes it takes to resolve the issues. It's almost like an entirely different show compared to Season 1. I still like it, though... sorry to get off topic.

I just hope they pick up and start showing Naruto more than once a week here in the US. I (finally) got my wife to start watching Naruto when the dub hit TV. She just refused to watch the sub. I mean at this rate it is going to be almost a year before she gets the see what is (arguably) the best fight in all of Naruto Gaara Vs Lee. Hell it’s going to be at least another 2 months before they show Lee at all.

meh. no biggies happening there. don't even worry. Yeah, the liscense shit would own most most people, but this is a special case. these guys are grabbing the Japanese versions and adding the subtitles. I'd bet they are getting pressure from the big companies involved, but no signs of cracking appears yet. Chances are, they are all overseas and far away from anything legal over here.

Which manga chapter should I read before the filler started in the anime?
i'm starting with vol. 27 then reading vol. 28-32. the filler seems to start after vol. 26 of the manga as far as manga to anime. like the anime and manga are the same (seemingly) up to vol. 26 of the manga. thats when the filler starts in the anime. vol. 27 is like how kakashi got the sharingan or something and then vol. 28 is the start of after the 2 and a half year gap.

Best fight is easily Rock vs. Gaara IMO. When everyone else fought, you KNEW they were bad ass. Rock and gaara were still pretty mysterious and each step was a surprise.

I think the Naruto and Sasuke fight was better b/c it lasted a bit longer and it was more creative. I still love the Rock Lee and Gaara fight though. Just want one episode when Rock Lee opens his gates and actually owns someone without losing.

There was nothing creative about Naruto and Sasuke's fight. Only thing new we saw was Naruto's 1-Tail transformation.

... Oh, and the 3-Tomoe Sharingan's "shadow images" thing. But that's not entirely new either-- 1st Databook said in it's description of the Sharingan that it could reveal the attacking paths of the opponent.
