Everything I've seen says that the HD-DVD drive is still separate (for example the 1-up review). Plus it's not mentioned anywhere in the Elite docs or write-up that I've seen. Hence my thought that waiting until combo drives are available makes more sense anyways....

I buy games off of eBay pretty regularly for older game systems. If they have feedback over 12 and accept PayPal, I usually feel good about bidding. Out of buying ~400 things on eBay, I've never had a serious problem on any transaction, from buying Kobun gashopon for $1 to buying an LCD HDTV for $2300 via "money order only" :confused:. It saves you money, so yeah, it's often pretty smart, just like going to your local gameshop and checking out their used game supply.

Yes, no HD-DVD drive in the elite because Microsoft says its still an "unproven" format. Perhaps if HD DVD eventually dies out, they'll make a Blu-Ray player (seriously, kinda weird since its Sony's proprietary format, but possible).

Ebay is a good place, just be sure to read the feedback and auction descriptions carefully. A really good place to buy/sell/trade games is cheapassgamer.com (its actually a great site period, always has info on great deals and such). I pretty much only buy/sell/trade on that site now, its a pretty trustworthy community (they have feedback for users, too) and you can do straight trades on their trading forum.

1. HDMI provides the best video quality as there are no loss conversions involved, unlike component. The all digital signal will create sharper pictures without the ghosting or softness found through component. Smaller, high contrast details like text display this most prominently.
2. HDMI provides superior digital audio (it supports up to 8 channels at 192kHz, uncompressed).
3. HDMI is the future standard of High Definition content. Within a few years, content producers may activate a usage restraint token that won't allow High Definition playback over unprotected interfaces (i.e. component).
4. Through an HDMI connection, the Xbox 360 will automatically detect the best settings for each television to which it is connected. In other words, users will no longer have to manually adjust resolutions and aspect ratios. These adjustments will be mad automatically according to the TV's specifications.
5. HDMI sends both audio and video through the same cable, eliminating the need for separate cables. Of course, users of optical audio will beg to differ, but it does simplify things like System Link play.

The biggest thing is #3, which raised a fuss a few months ago. Basically, some content producers can activate an "image constraint token" (i.e. DRM) which would prevent it from being shown on anything other than HDMI. This might not come to pass, but its possible.

Been using and following the standards of DVI and HDMI for a while and while all I am seeing is that HDMI is better, noone is even talking about the fact that HDMI also now factors in HDCP!

Am I the only one that gets a lot oweird glitches when playing Sain'ts Row? Sometimes weird things start happening like the car disappears and I can't do anything anymore. There are a few other things happening I just can't remember them right now.

yeah, but it's an endearing quality, at least offline since it's somewhat rare and not game-breaking offline....SR has some of the funniest glitches I've ever seen...like when one of your homies acts like he's on fire when that's not the case. heh, look up "Saint's Row glitch" on youtube...the results are always hilarious.

Earth Defense Force --it has become clear to me now, that the most achievements I will get from that game are 2....and that's only a "maybe". The game only gets progressively insane, just on "Normal" difficulty. Actually, I don't see how the "Descent" group of levels (among several others) are even possible on Normal or higher, unless you did lower missions over and over to completely max your character out to godlike levels of armour/health and weapons. It's that crazy. A typical mission later on is you vs. 100s or even 1000s of enemies coming from all directions, with no places to hide for more than 2 seconds. This is not an exaggeration. Yes, it really is just you, as the rest of your cpu-controlled squad will get killed in mere seconds once the shit really hits the fan....AND they can also easily die from your friendly fire. There's many times they will die simply from running in front of you right as you had a good shot on a bug. Anyway...on the last of the Descent levels(underground missions against ants and spiders), it took probably over 30 minutes just to FIND the damn last room with the queen, because you'll end up close, but you actually have to go back to the beginning to get there. Whoever designed that is a moron. For awhile, I thought it was glitched, or they forgot to design an entrance to the area.....ugh, so stupid. I was just running around, seconds away from giving up, and just lucked up and found the way into the queen's lair.

I'm on level 29 or so now, and I have to fight an endless army of Hectors, while large ships in the sky continuously drop them. Hectors are top priority to kill....but the ships are also top priority, since as long as they exist, the Hectors keep dropping.

The only achievements I see myself getting on this are the one for beating the game on easy setting, and *possibly* the one for eventually getting all weapons. That's what...150 points out of 1000?! This game is ridiculous.

I guess I've kinda chilled out. If you look at the Elite like a bundle with a special color, then I guess it's cool.

Still if I were just now buying a 360 I would get the 399 premium. Console looks better in white, and HDMI does nothing for me, nor does all that extra HD space.

Looks like M$ is waiting for Sony to make the first move on a price drop. Which isn't a bad strategy on for M$, you're outselling PS3 and are 200$ cheaper, why drop the price now? Though they are getting their ass kicked by the Wii right now, they should be concerned about that. A 199 core would close the Wii gap real quick.

hmm....TMNT better than Final Fight:
1. 4 players simultaneously back then was awesome, no matter what, really. FF didn't have this.
2. Well-known, beloved characters, controllable in a good game....for once.(nearly every other TMNT game was horrible. In fact, I'd say Turtles in Time was the only other truly good one.) I certainly cared a lot more about the Turtles than the Final Fight characters.
3. Maybe it's just me, but the vibe and overall pace of the game seemed faster and more entertaining than Final Fight.

It's not just the Turtles....I'd say Streets of Rage surpassed FF too. Eh, glancing at your post again....it sounds like you merely named FF as an example of other beatemups, rather than comparing them specifically.

anyway, this reminds me...Turtles in Time on Live Arcade would be incredible...especially if they added 4 player capability. It was a damn shame that the original was only 2players, despite the fact that the damn 4player adapter for SNES was out at the time!!! I have SNES and this game, but it would be nice still to get it as a Live Arcade experience, with the achievements and online play and all that.

yeah, i was mostly comparing to the capcom arcade fighters. i think final fight had better character designs and more robust gameplay elements. i wish they could release the d&d games, but i doubt that'll ever happen

Yeah, I had the Alucart equipment on and everything. I haven't beaten the game yet so I don't have a Lapis Lazuli and I only have 1 luck potion. My current luck w/ all the equipment I have is 63.

No way the SNES could handle 4 turtles on screen at once. It had enough trouble doing two + some enemies (there was lotsa dithering going on when things got hectic). Not that the SNES version it's bad, it's actually better than the arcade, as someone touched on, adding a few stages and bosses while extending others.


Arcade supports 4 turtles and like 12 enemies at once.
Still, TIT (hehe) the arcade would be a great addition to XBLA.

I actually like the arcade version a lot better. I'll take all the better animation, 4 player support and more enemies on screen at once over the extra stage and different bosses.

The game mechanics were also a lot different between the snes and arcade version. Both had it's ups and downs but i like the arcade over the snes version.

Speaking of the Turtles, I just saw the movie today, really good stuff. The characters haven't lost a touch of charisma after all these years. That's not only a compliment to the movie's creators, but to the concept of talking over-sized, pizza loving, sewer dwelling, ninjitsu practitioning turtles.

I've been obsessed with trying to get a high rank on the "Defeat Cerberus (Monthly)" leaderboard on SOTN lately. :rofl: Tried yesterday, made a bunch of mistakes, but got #17, reaching the doggie and beating him in about 30 minutes.

There were quite a few times where I fucked up, though, and my next Cerberus run will be better. But I have a few questions for anyone who knows the answer to 'em.

1) Despite the obvious time sink, I went out of my way to pick up the Jewel Knuckles. They laid to waste most enemies in less than a second, so I figured that it was faster than using the shitty Short Sword I started with. Good idea/bad?

2) What route is faster to the Leap Stone?
-- Through the Chapel (Hyppogryph, etc.)
-- Through the Clock Tower (using Wolf-kick)

Note that I'm avoiding using glitches and whatnot, other than the Wolf-kick (which I don't think is a bug).

My route, if anyone's curious:

Entrance -> meet Death, lose stuff, get Short Sword -> Alchemy Lab, get Leather Shield (it's on the way) -> beat Slogra and Gaibon -> Marble Gallery, meet Maria -> Outer Wall, detour to Jewel Knuckles and Mirror Cuirass -> beat Doppelganger10 in like 2/3 hits =) -> Long Library, get Jewel of Open -> Outer Wall -> Clock Tower, carefully make my way past the collapsing bridges, use Wolf Kick if I fuck up, use Wolf Kick to circumvent that one part where you have to double-jump, beat Karusuman -> Castle Keep, get Leap Stone, use WP to get back to Outer Wall -> Marble Gallery -> Underground Caverns, trigger button for the Abandoned Mine -> go to Mine, kill Cerberus, profit.

I was stuck at 200.3% too until I realized I was missing two not so obvious rooms. They weren't hidden either.

Make sure you've got all the hidden rooms. Including the room with the jewel sword. People mostly don't get that one.

Does anyone download movies and shows off Live? I still don't understand the appeal of this... The only thing I got was that free episode of the Sarah Silverman show, which was surprisingly funny....but this wouldn't be a regular thing for me. I prefer the primary function of a console be gaming-related things.

ok ok....I have to admit they may have caught my interest with the tvshows/movies on Live thing....browsing around, I saw THE STATE in the tv section! It's amazing that they have that...I may have to get at least one of those episodes. I haven't seen that show since back then when it was new.

EDF --I'm getting the armour stat and # of weapons up to the point where I can handle some levels on Hard setting now...I went back and beat the godzilla creature today on Hard level. The Lysander sniper rifle does a bit over 500 points of damage per shot(!!)...and it STILL took a long ass time to beat that monster. I lost track of the math on that...but I reloaded several times...and that gun fires 7 shots before needing a reload...so it was numerous sessions of 3,500+ points of damage to that thing....and this is on top of the occasional volley of my Cascade missiles that do 120 a hit(one "round" of that is 20 shots!...so...the 3500x?? +2400x??. Insane.)

*I played that level where you first encounter the Hectors/Walking Arms again....that and the Hector level right after it...those are EPIC battles.

This game has made it even more obvious that gamers today are so amazingly spoiled. Many have criticized this game for having "bad graphics"....and that's just silly to me. No..."bad graphics" are Tekken 1. "Bad graphics" are Atari 2600 games. Ever since Dreamcast, games have really stopped being legitimately "ugly" due to hardware limitations. Since DC era....a game is really only ugly when the art department working on it just plain suck and have little to no talent. EDF looks just fine.

Do you really need that HDMI input especially since you already have a VGA input on you TV. Besides you don't even own the HD Player which is the only reason to have the HDMI or VGA because the Xbox isn't allowed to put a 1080p signal for movies over component cables. As for the 120Gig harddrive do you really need all that space? You plan on downloading a shit load of tv shows and movies from the video market place, if so then definitely upgrade. If not why not wait till you really need that 120gigs.

As for purchasing the HD Dvd player since you have the blu-ray in you PS3 its all up to the movies you want. I have both the PS3 and the HD player add-on for my Xbox. I have a few movies of each the one's exclusive to that format

Blu-Ray: Black Hawk Down. Casino Royal, X-men 3, and of course Talladega nights that came with the PS3

HD:Batman Begins, Jet Li Fearless, The Mummy Returns, and of course King Kong which came with the HD DVD add-on

I don't have the list of which studios are making for who or what is time only exclusive so things could change. Also with the movie market place on Live doing extremely well HD/Blu-ray could end up being for the collectors out there who need the tangible discs. While a majority of people will see the Xbox Live market place thing as the next thing in video rental. As was Blockbuster for rental stores and Netflix for mail service rental. Xbox Live marketplace could be the online rental service. A lot people still rent cause most consumers just watch it and be done with it. Pay about $6.00 for the HD version($4 for SD) on new releases. For older movies its about $4.50 HD and $3.00 SD and watch it as many times you want within the 24 hour period. If the movie download rental thing keeps going then that 120gig HD is a must for many users then. As for me I still like having the discs themselves but many of my friends like the idea of renting online.

Quick Skinfo here: Embrace of the Vampire is a skin-classic, folks. It is on Live Marketplace Media section....this is the legendary film where 80s/90s era Elite Alyssa Milano got naked, and had some lesbo kissing action....and this was Prime Alyssa. Of course it's way old news....but there's always those 2 or 3 people who were,somehow, still unaware of such things....and I come to save the day for people like that. It is definitely much better than Poison Ivy 2; don't waste money on that unless you just want to see as much of Alyssa as possible. "Embrace.." is the real deal. I have it on dvd of course. Earth Defense Force 2017. There's a trailer for it on Live Marketplace. Basically, aliens are invading, and you're part of the EDF...an elite team that was specially trained to stop the aliens. Said aliens drop off giant ants, spiders, godzilla-looking monsters, giant robots, and spaceships....and there's a big ass 4-legged "ship" which is similar to Halo 2's "Scarab".(but much more of a threat, and thus...more cool and badass)

Well, I finally beat EDF2017 last night, the first time. No achievement though....I guess you really have to do all levels on easy, or all levels on normal, hard, etc to get those achievements. My mission list is all over the place, most were done on Normal, and a few were "easy" rank....and some were done "Hard". Mission 52 and 53 are CRAZY. I'm surprised I made it thru the hell of the final mission on normal setting.

It's so epic....heh, I recorded both missions....earth's "last stand" against the aliens. It's kinda nice and a "virtual ego boost" when you hear the radio chatter during the last mission after the rest of your squad is killed: "....there's one out there still fighting!"

They really need to make a truly current gen version or sequel of this with a bigger budget. One flaw you could point out is the slowdown that happens when seemingly THOUSANDS of enemies are on screen....which is fairly common towards the end of the game, naturally. Anyway, that was one of the most epic final showdowns of all time for me. It's your character vs. all the remaining forces of the aliens, plus a mothership that appears to be almost as big as Texas.

ah, forgot to mention....before the aliens' final assault, "Unknown" was also an incredible battle scenario. The creature you fight in that mission is similar to the godzilla dino/mech thing, but with huge cannons on his upper body area...and they fire fat lasers that destroy everything he aims at. Luckily, I was never directly hit by those lasers. The amount of ass this game kicks is just insane. It's like Brock Samson's fantasy when he entered that fantasy machine Dr. Venture created....the only major things missing are the ninjas attacking you from nowhere. It's like you're the star of a super-macho action movie from past decades, with a nod to 50s/60s era sci fi with the giant ants and spiders(check out a classic movie called "Them". This is what the game references with the giant ants thing.)

Objective: Capture and hold key locations to collect enough points to win the round.
Description: In Annex, you win by keeping control over key map locations, or objectives, long enough to collect a winning number of points. Every map has two to five identified objectives available for capture, with one objective active at a time. Objectives are based on map weapon-spawn locations and have a potential value of 60 points toward either team’s score. Teams collect those points by maintaining ownership of an objective until all its 60 points have been distributed. Every second that a team controls an objective, the team gets one point. When an objective falls to zero points, the next objective is selected at random.
On the HUD, the current objective appears below the team scores at top left. This indicator contains several pieces of relevant information. The weapon icon inside the circle indicates which weapon-spawn location is being used as the objective. The compass along the outer edge of the circle shows the relative direction to the objective. The number inside the circle indicates how many points remain at that objective and the background icon color indicates which team currently controls it. No color means the objective awaits capture, a red icon means the Locust Horde hold the objective and a blue icon means the COG hold it. When the icon in the indicator circle fills, the corresponding team's score also changes color, the team begins collecting points from the objective, and the point value of the objective drops.
On the map, a projected ring marks the physical location and boundaries of the objective in the world. The ring's color indicates the current captor: White means neutral, blue COG, and red Locust. Well ubisoft brought over TXR for the 360 and left out some cutscenes and probably some of the music also. They kinda half assed it, but the game is still dope. Hopefully they don't do that with senko

I got my copy of Symphony of the Night for free from a holloween contest on an old site called PSX Power back when the game came out. I probably never would have been able to play it otherwise. Although it did get rereleased for the PS1 towards the end of it's life. The game was something amazing for it's time. By today's standards it's not much but it's still enjoyable unlike most of the other games that came out around that time. I kinda gave up on the Xbox Live Arcade version cuz' I couldn't find all the hidden rooms and I just said, "screw it", and stopped playing.

It's good that things are coming out to threaten GTA's hold as #1 in that genre.....competition obviously forces the companies to make better games, all in that never-ending quest for your money....and the consumers win.

I'm excited for GTA4 because I've liked all GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas before it. Maybe I have poor taste but I have a feeling GTA4 won't dissapoint me since my expectation for the game is just maybe some new content and tweaks. I'm not asking for a huge gameplay overhaul. I like it so far. I havn't unlocked a lot stuff because I can only finished the game on easy. I heard some people have complaints about the guitar strum breaking, but I never had any problems with mine. I think some people go over board and rip the strum off.

Overall its a fun game and addictive, so far.

BTW does anyone know if the old xbox DDR games are compatible with the 360.

If I'm not mistaken their last press release stated that they now actually fix the Xbox you send in and send that one back to you instead of just picking a random one of the shelf and stuffing it in a box. So, unless your system is unfixable it's unlikely. On the bring side, you'll get a new 1 year warranty. Which basicly means when your 360 breaks again in a few months you'll be covered.

He was in GH1 if I remember correctly. Also, there is a modded version of GH2 for the PS2 that has some more JH, Metalica, Dragonforce, etc....

This wasn't much of an issue when I first started playing, I thought there was just a slight delay, but now its really hard for me to make it register. Yeah, the new maps will cost us money in the beginning then free a few months later like the Halo 2 maps. However, the download today is for a new game type called Annex as well as bug/glitch fix. This download will be free as for the new maps don't know when those will be coming out. Can't wait to play tonight.

Its pretty map reliant though. War Machine is pretty sweet in that mode but Raven Down is plastic ass. It can also be a numbers game quick, one of your teamates quit its pretty much game over.

The game would fit on XBLA, the rom dump is under 100 megs (the DC Iso is bigger due to movies + extras). That would be heaven, I don't understand why more companies aren't taking advantage of their back catalogs for easy XBLA money.

That one is hilarious because you are not just watching out for the other team, but a train barreling at you. Annex is great and really emphasis the word "TEAMWORK" here cause without that you will never win. No matter how good you are at taking people out, it doesn't work in this game type. But I agree some maps work better than others. It all about having one guy in a Birdseye view to take people out from afar or alert people of where the threat is coming from. Have one stay in the circle and have the other two guard the perimeter. At least that is what worked last night. Another thing is take people out and let them bleed out making them wait longer to die and re spawn to attempt another attack on you.

Yeah, GH2 rocks (no pun intended). About my wammy, it seems I have to move it all the way back & forth to get any action out of it. I'm 1 section away from the last set on hard. It's pretty tough, at least for me it is.


But when you do one of those tough sections and you see you still have multiplier, I must admit it's pretty rewarding. It's sweet that I'm still in the top 1k on Freebird and Carry me home.

I was worried about E4 till I read IGN's preview and I'm all like "Shit, why did I even buy the PSP game." Which just got old after awhile. The music wasn't good enough all the time and you could barely tell the difference between the minor variations in the stages.

The issue with porting all these games to XBLA is the time and money. Sega and Capcom need to find some damn good people and outsource the shit.

New Halo 3 ViDoc up.

Graphics still aren't very WOW inducing, but considering how far Halo 2 pushed the original Xbox (it really should have been a 360 game) it's not surprising. Bubble grenade looks cool. As with 2, it should be fun.

I feel the same about the VC, a online component for that is a fucking must, makes me wonder if i REALLLY wanna download those games again or just find the system and buy the games off ebay. or use my modded xbox.

IT is one of the worst fighters ever made. The game is slow as hell and the controls are unresponsive. Because the controls are crap blocking and countering are really hard and take luck to work. The game's combat system is just shitty. The good things about the game are the story and the graphics.

EA should just design an arcadey version of the old UFC games for the next defjam.

I hear its a easy 1000 gamer points, and the graphics are fucking crazy, and yeah, the story part too. iono, if im not paying nothing, cant be too bad can it? IMO, sonic, was fucking baaad. unless def jam is worse, i might give it a shot.

So....apparently a basic game manual is actually kinda necessary for Castlevania SOTN....it's not exactly pickup/play friendly(from the perspective of someone who never played before) in the same way most other live arcade release games are....and I still haven't beat the damn first monster duo(one thing is on the ground trying to stab you with...something...the other dude is flying around and picks him up if you hit him too much.) It seems like it should be simple, but it also seems like I'm horribly limited in what I can do against them. A janky ass little sword and daggers that quickly run out don't seem to cut it. I know Alucard eventually becomes a much more badass character than that....but I really don't like having pitifully slim strategic options.
