Playing the Boom Boom Rocket demo made my eyes hurt a bit. I think my TV's a tad bit too big to keep up with all that shit that's going on.

Annex Mode kind of drags on a bit, but at least the 15-20 kills I got each round (default settings) gave me some false confidence, even though we lost because it took us a little while before we found out where all the shit was. I think I got it figured out though...

Oh, and I have to buy a new copy of Gears tomorrow, since my roomate thinks discs will be alright if you just leave them in random spots when you put a different game in. My current Gears disc is scratched to hell, which makes it crash when a new match is about to start. I would guilt him to suicide, but I need the rent money.

It recognizes a whole bunch I made before I installed the sharing software for my computer but it doesn't want to recognize shit now. I made one tonight to play crackdown to and the list shows up in the saved playlists tab, but it says "No songs" when I select it. WTF. I went into the zune software and saved it as a zune play list too and it STILL doesn't get it.

Boom Boom seems too much like a little side game...like a "piece" of an actual game....a bonus round, if you will. I got to 24 million....on easy of course :p in the trial...but I can't see myself playing that game for an extensive period of time, like Geo Wars and other truly great arcade games.

I still think about Geo Wars, yes....just the other day, I was listening to one of my cds, and thinking "hmm...that would be a good track to play during a GW session." I'm actually going to burn a "Definitive Geometry Wars Soundtrack" for myself at some point...possibly this weekend, and load that up on the hdd. My regular themes are "Bird of Prey" from Fatboy Slim, various Naruto themes(mainly "Ultimate Secrets", "Orochimaru Fight Theme", "Need to be Strong" and "Heavy Violence"), and Matrix stuff....heh, and occasionally the training montage music from Rocky movies.

Custom soundtracks for everything......I can't help but continuously beat a dead horse about how awesome that little luxury is.

*again, I'm amazed by my friend's perfectly fine 360. On the most recent visit, I also noticed that his system isn't well ventilated at all....it's tucked away behind a glass door in a big home entertainment center thing....and it's surrounded by things like books, tapes, and other systems.....and yet, it still works just fine.

Yeah....I give up on Gyruss and the new Mutant Storm ever coming out on Arcade. At this rate, it will be time for the next generation of consoles before those are even close. Both games have completely fallen off everyone's radar. Nobody cares about those; no one would notice if they just never came out. People are far more hyped for Castle Crashers, and even that won't come out for the next 43 years.

I was very impressed with that Ryu sprite and I can't wait to see how good everything/everyone else looks in motion.

So I pretty much broke Crackdown last night. I not only found a way to swim undernieth the head quaters, but I managed to get my sef under the first city too. I was randomly running up tunnel 2 when I decided to run on the right hand ledge. After reaching the end I was welcomed by a glitch that allowed me to go out of bounds and swim inside the map. After many hours of messing around it seemed the only place you could swim under was the head quaters. But I had a hunch about the tunnels and set my self the task of reaching one of the other cities.

At one point I noticed an oddity just out of bounds of tunnel 2, where if you go round to the water level where the big black void is, right above the tunnel, there is a little ledge that you can actually hang onto under water. I stayed there for a while, observing and taking it in, when I accidentally dropped down. In my panic to grab back onto the ledge I held up, where I gliched along the out of bounds inside of the tunnel and some how caught onto an invisible ledge just blow of the one I was on. I knew this would be the way, I just knew it, but it was so difficult. By these invisible ledges it seemed the only way I was going to get under a city was to hang along the outside/inside of the tunnel all the way around.

With that in mind I took a leap of faith and leapt further down the side of the tunnel. To my suprise, I was right. You can actually hang all the way around the out of bounds inside of the tunnels. I couldn't believe it. I spent the 7 minute trip shimmying round tunnel 2 when I met a dead end. Getting under city 2 simply isn't possible. After a couple of hours trying to recreate these steps I decided to try the other tunnels which to my utmost shock are actually the easiest tunnels to shimmy. All you need to do is travel undernieth to the other tunnels, get along side them and jump up at the silver rails on the side. There you go, you're in place to shimmy along the tunnel.

In the end the best one to do is to shimmy along the right hand side of tunnel 1. Every other tunnel sticks out of the water at the end and has no physical ground that will let you pass under the city. This is different on city 1 though, the right hand side is over lapped by the map and simply dropping off the ledge into the void while overlapped will spawn you in the water actually under the land of city 1. I done it, at long last. It took 6 hours to get there but I done it.

If you have Crackdown I suggest you try this, it's great glitchy fun. Hell it's even a challenge getting under city 1.

Despite all the hate it receives....it's probably safe to say that once Halo 3 comes out, that might be the final nail in the coffin for all of 360's competition. It already has a considerable lead simply for being first on the market....the arrival of H3 is like a critical hit....a KO punch.

Personally, I'll most likely at least play the beta only because everyone else will be playing it. Still, it will be hard to go back to the slow-mo world of Halo after having experienced the greatness that is Unreal. Fuck that...UT 3 is what needs to come out. That's what everyone needs to look forward to. Speaking of things everyone else plays....I do intend to get on Gears of War.....soon. Finally, I will be playing a game at that point that other people give a shit about.

PSU -- new clothes came out, and I got the most badass looking jacket in the game. That extended the replay right there for me....at least a little bit. Dookieman looks so awesome now. (*it looks a bit "bikerish" like something Lobo, or maybe a Terminator would wear...with furry edges on the collar and cutoff sleeve areas.) This jacket better be in the expansion pack right away(in offline) when it comes out.

So....I'm also beginning to question the charges for Live. We pay the 50 each year, basically to play online. One can't really say it's for those other things like gamerpics and themes, because that crap still costs money. So, this leaves it to the 50 going to the online gaming aspect of it...the heart of the service....which would be fine...

..but MS doesn't use dedicated servers, so there goes that little point. If our 360s are the servers, what's the 50 for then? I've also seen others make the point that Silver Live for PC is free online play. Console Live gets the 50, basically because MS knows the players have no other choice in the matter....so it is purely a "you pay us because we say so." fee. It's like if I'm paying Comcast 100 a month...but then I'm suddenly having to pay an additional 20 bucks every month for something that goes unexplained....the bullshit "we just want extra money. No other reason." fee, if you will.

99% of the junk on Live still costs money, and there's no dedicated servers, and many games still suffer noticeable and sometimes unacceptable lag, so what's the point of that 50 a year?

I would be just fine if the 50/yr didn't exist....or if more things on Live were "free" because it's covered in the 50. For example....say the gold users have access to all or most gamerpics and themes and even some mappacks, misc. stuff with no need for spending points. Why isn't that just part of the service covered in the 50? Of course the Arcade games would still cost...but the rest of that shit needs to be covered in the 50.

...the unfortunate thing is that none of this discussion could ever go anywhere. Live will continue to be 50 bucks a year or even more....because they're in a winning position at the moment. If I were in control of things...I certainly wouldn't change my gameplan if the vast majority of my customers are continuing to pay this silly little fee. If they're going to keep paying for no real reason, continuing to be duped because "hey, it's only about 4 bucks a month"....haha...why change?

That's the "counterpoint" so many others bring up too....and it's sad. People's only defense is typically "Well, you must be seriously poor if you can't afford that." I would hope SRK folk are smart enough to realize why that so-called point is laughable at best when it's tossed out as a "defense"

Perfect example is the new XBL dashboard coming out in May with integrated Windows Live Messenger. Sure, MS is making billions a year and preying on us is not one of they're strategies. Well, I think that if Xbox live wasn't a pay service you'd see alot less games with online, alot less gamers online, and alot less features.

Like, check it out. Microsoft pretty much mandates some kind of Xbox live support in every game, right? It's intergrated into every game in some form. Same with your dashboard, it is pretty much built around Xbox live, matchmaking, friends lists, voice chat, etc. Microsoft wants to create a rich Xbox live experience so you subscribe to xbox live and give them money. If the money wasn't there, I don't think Xbox live would be half as good as it is. Why bother doing all this work, putting in all these features, if MS doesn't make any money off the online component at all?

This is double edged for consumers. The good side is that we get all these cool, integrated features, Xbox live is streamlined and made an integral part of the 360. The bad is we have to pay. Personally I had Xbox live since Xbox 1 days, and I've never minded paying 50 a year. On the 360 they took it to another level, now I couldn't imagine not playing online and that's exactly what Microsoft wants.

To sum it all up, my view is that if Xbox live wasn't a pay service, it would be just another afterthought, a tacked on thing that noone cares about, rather than what it is now. I mean, if you really think about it, online in consoles was going nowhere until Xbox live showed up. IMO we'd still be making babysteps if not for XBL.

ah, well that is a good point there....yeah, it's scary to think of what online would be for consoles if this were all up to Sony, and even worse....Nintendo(cue peals of thunder and dramatic, depressing music) MS really did push online into becoming a major priority for this new generation of consoles.

...so, I'm kind of on the fence with that.

On another note...I still say the idea that Geo Wars Retro is easier is bull. It's definitely not easier in the beginning.... New high score of 307,xxx for me there...yet I still struggle sometimes just to make it past 20,000. The 300,000+ score was a fluke. Meanwhile, my Evolved score is still 1.9 mil, and it's far easier to at least make it to 1 mil on Evolved. I doubt I will ever reach 1 million points in Retro. Retro makes me want to destroy something. Evolved is challenging in a way that's still fun and interesting. Retro just makes me want to break someone's face.

Considering how much money MS has made off of downloadable content (especially media), it wouldn't surprise me if Live eventually becomes free, especially if Sony's PSN becomes a viable competitor. Unfortunately, their current focus on combining the 360 with Games for Windows Live could initially take us a step backwards, at least until the PC side fails miserably.

I understand why they'd want to experiment with micropayments and squeezing as much money out of consumer as possible, but it doesn't make such payments any easier to take up the ass.

Actually its not a regular ethernet cable that you use if you are system linking only 2 systems. What you need is Crossover cable(Cat 5 usually orange in color) its the exact same thing that Microsoft sells as a system link cable. As for the complexity of hooking everything up its straight forward. Hook up the both xbox like you usually do and then plug the crossover cable to both and boot up your games. Select system link/Local play and follow the on screen prompts.

As for the router that is only really needed if you want more than 2 xboxes system linked. It can be done with 2 xbox as well if don't want to buy a crossover cable and if you already have a router and an extra ethernet cable.

Don't bother. It sucks. Doesn't work with a lot of routers and the quality is meh. You're better off just doing internet connection sharing with a laptop and use that as your "wireless adapter". That's what i usually do and it's been perfect so far.

repurchase? naw, you can recover your gamertag, and your gamertag itself is linked to everything you have bought, so you dont have to pay again. redownload? yeah, but not pay again, if you have a memory card, its easier, as you can transfer your gamertag itself, and your gamesaves to the memory card, and upload to your new unit, or a friends unit if you go to his house.
so, best thing to do , imo, is buy a used memory card, or find someone who has one and borrow it, save your shit, trade in the 360 and HD since you wont need it now, get your elite, and transfer your gamer profile, and game saves to the elite, and re-download the XBLA games and content you already paid for. But what if you need the larger HD? 20 gigs is nothing, and we're only gonna see more downloadable content from here onward. Sooner or later, developers will also want to use the HD for optimal performance. Shivering Isles is a fucking gig, HD movies are 3~4 gigs, and half the demos on Live are 700~800 megs at least. Plus, I'm getting a monster HD-TV by the end of this year, so HDMI is a plus. Why fuck myself in the ass by just buying an overpriced HD when I can get a deal?

BAD DEAL? That's a F'd deal. They get your premium system, which they will end up selling for 300.00+, and you still have to pay 200.00 for the system. The harddrive is nice and all, but they gotta drop the price, its just not jusified at the moment. Only thing that its got going for it is that it's black and it would match my current components in my A/V rack. And even then I can cop a black case for less than 30 bones and be done with it.

I was using WMP11's Network Sharing Service (formerly known as Windows Media Connect) to wirelessly listen to comedy tracks from my PC (that is two floors upstairs) on the stereo while playing random games (well, actually, I was using the Dreamcast while just using the x360 for the music).

The interface is a *little* awkward for large libraries (I have to scroll a lot in my ~20,000 track library), but it works pretty darn well. And it's frankly a lot easier to use than the Roku (I have an M2000).

And if you don't like MCE/WMC/NSS, you can use something like TVersity instead. It works out pretty well. :tup:

nah, I was referring to the original. I tried it again last night, and the sound always seems to cut out at a certain point, and it becomes mostly just sound effects. Enhanced sounds fine, though it's different. The "Original" option's original track heh....it's messed up.

I'm not as good at this game as I was back in the 80s. I only broke the 6 digit range last night for the first time. The top spot on the leaderboard has over 700,000 already.

Monster Madness seems like fun(the demo has been up for awhile now), though the aiming is "iffy" at times....I'll most likely get it, and be one of the 22 people in the world playing that.

Just to let everyone know, if you're xbox was made in 2005, you can get it repaired for free. I suggest you register your console on xbox.com to see if it's still under warranty. I just called them to get mine fixed and the first guy i spoke to said it'll cost $140:wtf: ...so i called back and spoke to someone else and she said i could get it repaired for free. So if your 360 is dead, i suggest you send it in asap....dunno how long the warranty thing is gonna last.

The system might have been down or something when you downloaded them. On tuesday there was server downtime as well.

I am a little disappointed with the new maps simply because they added death barriers everywhere and there is no possibility, at the moment anyway, to get out of the maps. Oh well, hope they at least fix the bug on tombstone(new hang em high) before they add the maps to matchmaking.

Hmm.. Where to start (And Million I second your feelings).

The game is like a fighter and a fps had wicked narly sex on the beach.
or something like that...

Take the weapons of the UT series and categorize them so that the guns are either explosive or energy type (so some weapons like the sniper rifle are now fueled by, what I like to call, energon).

So that's the Flak Cannon, Rocket Launcher, and Grenade Launcher for explosive type.

Sniper Rifle, a new gatling gun (forgot the name of it but it'll be in UT2k7), and the Shock Rifle.

Before every match you can pick only one from each category, leaving you with your race specific pistol and close range weapon.

So you go in with four weapons and you pick up generic ammo for the explosive and energy weapons. You can either play in third or first person and with the expanded set of moves you can do to get around, you'll be in third person 70% of the time.

To win any match with serious players you'll have to be a master of hopping off of walls, air dashing, and countering/blocking with your close range weapon.

Your close range weapon has a basic fast and slow attack. Everytime you hit someone not only do you do damage but you build up their stun meter. You also build it up with your pistols (which have a charged shot that can stun someone instantly). While someone is stunned you can run up on them and do a Coup De Grace (finishing move) and kill them instantly or just blow them apart with something else.

Countering attacks (projectiles) is done with a well timed button press. If you have flawless timing you can send the projectile right back at your oppenent. So a headshot can be totally reversed. And on top of that, if the attacker gets their close range weapon out in time you can counter your own attack back. So it becomes a tennis match of the deadlest of proportions. You can also block too.

However there is a meter to regulate all that blocking and countering so you can't do it forever.

THEN! As you rape fools you build meter, just like a fighter. When you max out you have a choice between a nice selection of general and race specific upgrades/attacks to yourself (at the push of a button). Like instant health, super speed, super jumping (you are almost flying), vampire leeching, special infared vision, and so on. There is a fucking lot.

What makes this game so special is that whether it's a full match of 3 on 3 or 1 on 1, the game can be just as intense as a fighter. On top of that, the single player is just plain awesome. You play all the game types with a story some how infused into the gameplay. Pretty cool.

I don't have a 360, but I'm glad UC2 made it onto the BC list. =) It's definitely one of my favorite games from the last generation The new engine still looks really nice and the framerate is smooth, but more importantly the gameplay is really fun and very rewarding. Once I got a hang of the more advanced stuff, I really appreciated this game. You can probably find it new for $10 or less.

I just got done playing a shitload of UC2 on the 360 and I've discovered that there are suddenly new maps available, at least 3 of them, only when you play it on the 360.

I've found 2 new DM maps, they're called Falls and Zenith, and I know there's at least one CTF map. I tried everything to get/unlock these maps on an OG Xbox to no avail, I can only access them on the 360.

My theory is that the maps are already on the disc, only the developers unlock them via "downloaded content" on the OG Xbox, only somehow, the 360 emulation unlocked them by default.

Anyways, the 2 DM maps are really awesome, and if my theory is correct, I'm wondering what the hell Epic is waiting for to unlock these maps to the general public.

1. primary are small weak blobs. The blobs are alive, and bounce around for awhile, trying to hit someone....obviously it consumes less ammo. This is obviously more useful for subtly controlling space. I can make an area hazardous with the little blobs....or they can be backup-damage after I've hit someone with the cloud.

2. secondary is a charged shot, which releases a significantly larger blob. This is much more persistent, and jumps longer distances. Also of note is the arc path of the shot, making it perfect to launch over hilly areas, or up stairs, etc. A fully charged blob is a one hit kill, even on a heavy character like Arclite.

3. Third option is a poisonous cloud. This is great since you can't reflect or block it. It's guaranteed damage, and guaranteed kills when combined with U-damage of course.

And this is just one example, folks. This is just one weapon. The depth here and I guess in other Unreal games just destroys everything else out there, imo.

So, yesterday was a critical point. X360 has truly become a legendary system. I'm not sure how someone could even argue otherwise. It is the front runner of this generation, and I don't see that changing any time soon. It has classics like Geo Wars, the everyonelovestohatebutpeoplestillplay Halo franchise, Gears, Lost Planet, then DMC4 and GTA4 are on the horizon, it even has RPGs now for those who are into that sort of thing, and they managed to put up a BC list that actually looks like someone out there cares(*because UC2 certainly didn't sell worth a damn). It has the best controller, the Arcade, custom soundtracks on everything....the list goes on and on.

One has to at least acknowledge that the system is on the same level as other legends like SNES and Genesis at this point.

*yes I'm all about the Phantom Dust as well. I'll have to get into that over the weekend too, when I'm not ravaging the world of Unreal of course.

The 360 controller is only the best for console fps. Substitute the d pad location and left analog stick location for the ps2 and you basically have what you want.

If we're talking about d pads, the ps2 d pad can be used for fighters, whereas the 360 is horrible. Besides the design, the only main difference between the 360 and ps2 is the d pad and left analog stick locations. The face buttons on the 360 aren't as good as the ps2 either. I dropped a 360 controller once, and one of the face buttons were already sticky.

I will say that I prefer nintendo and microsoft's analog sticks over sonys however.

I can play old sf2 like ST or HF fine on the ps2 pad almost as perfect as a stick. Sadly the 360 is not the same, you have to do those mods where you sand off the circle around the pad so the pad has more freedom to move.

I can't imagine playing tekken on the 360 pad. A lot of tekken players play on pad not stick.

As far as button placement, isn't it the same thing except the 360 has triggers and bumpers instead of bumpers.

Anyway to each his own. 360 controllers are the best for 360 games, and likewise for playstations.

The Dreamcast is legendary simply because in those 2 years, it had the most AAA titles of any console in such a short span. Though alot of those titles have since been ported elsewhere.

SNES, Genesis, NES to name a few, are better consoles for sure, but they had 5-7 years worth of software. Saturn/TurboGraphx are the cult favs, DC to some extent.

Here's my controller tiers: 2d gaming: Saturn pad. Hands down, obviously. 3d dual shock 2 is good, Xbox 1 is better and 360 is top. The first time I ever held the 360 controller I was blown away by how good it felt, great design but of course the Dpad is trash. That was when I thought 360 was trash, except for the controller heh. DC controller is good except for the lack of a second analog.

PS3 controller just feels chincy, and the triggers are garbage. Dual Shock 2 is wayyyyy better in every way. You also gotta knock it because its essentially a 12 year old design at heart. At least the boomerang was a new direction, and it actually looked comfortable *from screenshots*. They should have stuck with that.

My shoulder button experiences have been quite the opposite. I've never had a problem with shoulder buttons. I was even a hardcore Frequency/Amplitude player when those games came out and I had no problems with the PS2 shoulder buttons. Those games require you to beat the shoulder buttons repeatedly.

^not sure, but definitely get PD if you see it. It is the best "budget" title, possibly of all time. It's odd to even describe how it is....the best I could say is that it's the deep strategy of something like a card-battling game....but without the cards, real-time action, arena battles with super-powered characters. The story is fairly interesting as well.

....and now I can finally finish that story. It kinda sucks that I have to obviously start all over now.

Is Destroy All Humans BC as well? If so, I may never have a use for my old Xbox again...and I can be comfortable with fully destroying it now. (it's already dead. I just keep it around as something to smash when I get pissed off.)

The 360 is backwards compatible with some xbox games. The 360 uses software emulation instead of putting in another xbox in there to get things rolling. So just put the disc in and download the system update and you should be able to play it.

IMO R6, now, I loved the hell out of GRAW 1, played it as much as I did with R6, but GRAW 2 IMO came out too quickly, R6 is still going strong, even came out with DLC last week *new maps, modes in MP*. R6 really shines in XBL competition. Hope that helped you a bit.

Another Double XBLA release this Wednesday.

So we found another glitch in Crackdown... Actually this is more of a trick than anything. One of the achievements called Shot Putter is unlocked by throwing an object more than 205 feet (I think it's feet). I never actually found out the true way to do this achievement, but thanks to a random accident we realised an easy way to it. The only down side is it has to be done in co-operative.

To do it this way is quite simple. Have your buddy kill him self and pick up his body. Your buddy should then regenerate and choose a location that's more than the required distance. Don't choose it yet though as your body will disapear. Then all you have to do is throw the body and have your buddy select the chosen location. On your buddies screen everything will be normal, however to you the game conciders the warp from a thrown state active, even when they spawn in the chosen location, so it's as if you've thrown them to their chosen location.

There you go, Shot Putter unlocked. If anyone knows the true method to do these, please let me know, I'm interested to find out.

Yea i did this haha, i killed my friend and just threw him into some water and got the achievement.

you can also do the same thing to get the stunt rings too.

Man, played some Orta and UC2 for the first time in months yesterday. Forgot how incredible they both are. And hey Curry! I DON'T SUCK AT ORTA ANYMORE!!!! ;)

I see a couple of fools trying to top my mediocre Gyruss score. It would be nice if the friends leaderboards for more XBLA games reset every week- would give me more incentive to play them more often. It's cool having a mini-rivalry with Koop and Ace in Lumines, although both of them could probably smoke my current high score if they wanted to...

i got it first try by throwing a brick off of the highest building i could find... one of the first achievements i got in the game, actually.

I am charging my $ battery pack through the usb cord, the batter pack on the back of the controller is REALLY hot. Anyone else have that problem?

NBA Street Homecourt is a lot of fun. My friend and I were playing this game and I'm glad I gave it a chance since I usually don't play sports games. I think I'll buy it.

I'll smoke your score in lumines. I destory Aces score on a regular bases. bwuahahaha!



Ace - one of the last times (like 2 or 3 times ago) I charged my battery pack I noticed it was VERY hot. Like I didnt want to hold it hot. Still works fine though. Since I just use regular batterys while my charges in the other controller charging I just make sure its upside down and off by itself when I charge it.

I play lumines, but I can't play more than 10 minutes without crying in tears because of the bright colors, flashes, and color changes. Even if I change the setting for the televison it still kills my eyes.
