yeah, it's been at least 10 years since I played the old style MKs. I never played Ultimate much at all, because I already had MK Trilogy on playstation at the time...and Trilogy seemed like the superior game, imo....at least in terms of roster, you just couldn't beat that. I think Ultimate was only on the 16bit systems too, and I didn't feel like going backwards once I had playstation. Anyway, it's been so long...I've forgotten at least 95% of these damn moves. I don't remember ANY fatalities....I just looked up a FAQ to jot down the moves...heh, that takes me back to the old days....I'd bring an EGM with me sometimes back then, go over the moves before going into the arcade, then try to work with short-term memory...or sometimes I'd have a little piece of paper with me with moves written down. Such memories...such good times. I still knew Kabal's combo though...I could never forget it, considering that was my #1 character. LK,LK HP HP Down+HP uppercut, jump LK...then I think you could work in his projectile to hit them before they came down....not sure, but I remember doing that...

Jade is such a cheap ass cuntie bitch. I really hate that character.
I am also reminded now of just how amazingly cheap Midway's AI is in this and MOST of their other games. CPU characters in Midway games cheat their asses off, and sometimes...they don't even try to hide it...it's like they don't even care about giving off the *illusion* of playing fair(e.g.--non-SubZero characters SLIDING in MK2 home versions. SLIDING!) There's blatant controller-reading and wacked out priorities all over the place. This is why I rarely played MK unless it was against other people. If I played the cpu, it was always the lowest difficulty setting...and even cpu characters on that mode cheat occasionally.

You only have to put the codes in once. You need two controllers. They are saved when you turn the console off. Just play another game with one of them and quit to make sure they are saved.

When you play online against someone, they will be unlocked for them too.

ah, it's too bad there's no best buy that's conveniently located for me(they're all a damn road trip away). I'd definitely take advantage of that. I already have 470 points left over from yesterdays umk3 purchase.

*nitpick--it would be nice if all Arcade games came with at least 1 gamerpic. Dig Dug had a Pooka(but I'd rather use a Fygar or "ghost" mode Fygar). I think Doom has a pic of the Doom guy, but unfortunately I think it's an illustrated pic, and I'd rather have the pixelated pics of the monsters; Imp or Arch-Vile, a Baron of Hell, etc. Some of the acheivement icons would make for nice gamerpics too....they tend to look a lot more interesting than 99% of the garbage on market place that are "official" gamerpics.(only Sgt. Johnson from Halo, Servbot, that one zombie from Dead Rising, and some Lego Star Wars pics are good...the rest are trash, imo.)
....and why no Ms. Pacman? Ms. Pacman was so much better than regular Pacman. If they put Ms. Pacman up, I'd buy it immediately.

Oh man am I addicted to Lumines Live. I've done nothing but play it all weekend. The achievements are a fucking bitch to get, especially the "clear base" achievement. I still can't get it. Best puzzle game since Tetris Worlds and Puzzle Fighter. Now if only those 2 games would come out on Live, all my online puzzle needs would be met.

I am slightly pissed that you have to pay for the game, then pay for additional skins. Fucking lame, but like a dumbass, I did it anyways because the game is so good.

Anyone know when Contra and Castle Crashers are going to be released?

on second thought...yeah, I'll most likely get PSU from a Best Buy, to get the 1600 points deal. I'll get Doom and perhaps whatever comes to arcade this week or next, provided it's one of the games I look forward too of course(Gyruss, Contra, Mutant Storm Empire)

As expected...playing real people in UMK3 is SO much easier than the goddamn cheapass AI. I won 3 matches today and lost 5 or 6. That's still much better than I can do against a cpu that likes to become suddenly GOD for a minute just to win. I still haven't even made it to Shao Kahn yet. I remember at least the psx versions of Trilogy and regular MK3 were easier than this....still typical Midway ai cheapness,....but still POSSIBLE. There simply is no hope on umk3 when the cpu decides it is going to beat you. I also feel handicapped by certain shitty gameplay mechanics too, such as the delayed reactions of certain things. You can't punish things quickly in this for some reason...like the computer does a dropkick, and say you want to immediately do Kabal's dash for an easy combo. You have to wait a second before the game recognizes that you did the goddamn button command for the dash. In that crucial 1.5 or whatever seconds of delayed reaction, the cpu of course recovers and sweeps or uppercuts or combos or whatever.

*oh and what's up with the stats? Despite the wins and losses I had today(which were in "ranked" matches)....my record shows up as 1 and 0?! Only one guy disconnected when I beat him, but what of the rest of my few wins? What about my losses? So...it JUST counted the 1 win? Stupid. I at least got the acheivement for getting a fatality on someone on Live....that's good enough for me right there.

Other blatant cheapness: The goddamn cpu can do a sweep that is clearly 3 MILES away from me, yet it connects. :rolleyes: There is seriously no other game in history that cheats as much as a typical Midway game. I've forgotten how pissed off this gets me.

Yeah no training mode or customizable controls in UMK3 is a shame, but the game is nostalgic cheesy fun. Like you were saying Million some moves that seem REALLY punishable, in all actuality, aren't. For example Smoke's teleport uppercut. I don't get that move, haha. It seems safe on block, which is retarded. And everyone and their mom is playing Smoke... teleport uppercut, harpoon, into whatever.

I also downloaded the Tony Hawk Project 8 demo, and I'm enjoying it. Last time I played a Tony Hawk game was #2 on Dreamcast many years ago, so it's been kinda a kick. I like the 'bullet time' mechanic they added, where each analog stick controls your left and right foot respectively, in slow motion. I ate shit trying to pull off some snazzy stuff too many times to count though.

Live is like fuckin Cheech and Chong on UMK3. Too much Smoke. I've resorted to playing Nightwolf and shoulder-charge punishing everything. Run, Shoulder charge...trust me, people fall for it. I can usually catch smoke before he even goes up out of the screen. The off chance I miss, i'm dashing out of the way when he comes up.

I'd much rather use Mileena though :/

Last kid was saying I was cheating because he couldn't do anything with Liu Kang. So he starts trying to look cool for the two people without mics who joined. It became a boot war. I sat in the lobby booting him over and over not letting him finish his bitching. Then he wants to private chat. I join, and talk like a girl.

Since the dumbass thinks I am a girl, he cooled off and started hitting on me. The motherfucker even asked for a number. So I ask him where he lives. He says Joliet Illinois. I get on wikipedia and tell him to go to a high school and meet me 16 miles away from him. The dumbass went.

He came back 2 hours later, and wanted to private chat. I talked to him, and he was amazed because he heard a deep voice. He asked "Where did that breezy go".

I am the breezy baby. You want my dick don't you? I was said I was out there in a Black Hoodie. He is pissed because there really was a dude with a hoodie out there.

He blocked comminucations with me and got a bunch of people to send me a friends request to leave bad feedback.

So, I call Xbox Live customer service (at like midnight) on Skype. I get some hispanic woman. So, I started talking to her saying I was scared. I told her a guy in Mortal Kombat was hacking and he got angry. I say he pulled up all my personal information. He knew my name, where I lived, my IP adress, and my sisters name.

I tell him that he was a rascist saying that he was going to kill me and rape my sister. The woman is angry. She says she will call the authorities on him. I am now waiting to see how this ends up.

For European or Japanese region live users: The Rainbow Six Vegas demo is up for anyone whose interested. I gave it a go and was mildly entertained for a while. I have some complaints but its decent overall. Then again, Im an old school R6 fanboy and despised the prior console releases. But this one seems ok for what it is. The framerate suffers like splinter cell:DA and not being able to toggle for cover (rather you hold the L trigger) is a little annoying.

yeah my ranks are alright. but in DOA though i always lose to a certain level of players. I fight and hang tough with all the A+ and S(who i like to play the most, cause they actually know how to play well atleast the ones from doacentral that i play with, so they help me improve in my attempts to get to their level of play, and it shows.) players.
But I lose vs the B+ and A- group. Random guess reversals for the win.
And i destroy the Cs and below obviously.
So my rank never goes anywhere, I'll have a big win streak on some scrubs and then a lagger comes in and i lose 1.15k, setting me almost all the way back as far as my 5 or 6 win streaks are concerned.

about MK tho... i lose to turtle sliding sub zeros.
But i still fuck bitches up with Sektor.

the ranking on mk though is just the normal win loss score, and it has a "true skill" point thing. My "True Skill" rating thing is at 30 or 31 right now i think. i have no idea how it's tallied. might be like halo.

Picked up kameo and the 1600 points from best buy yesturday, this game looks really good, awesome graphics, and im enjoying the simple platoformic gameplay. first level is just like the demo i played awhile back, which is fine. Is this game like bajo kazooie, you explore the whole world as you please, or is it more like viewtiful joe style, one level at a time forcefully.
Hmm either way, im liking it so far, its a nice simple game.

Rank 82, but that aint nothin. It's legit though, i just made it to the snow board without getting my first gameover. I shouldve gotten further but i messed up at the begining of the level with that flying thing lettin out all the troops.

Anyway though, the scoring system is broken. You'll understand why once you play the game. The most patient person can get an unbeatable score, expect to see scores getting maxed completely out.

All someone's got to do, is get the spray, sit in a corner and just keep tapping A while those random troops come out and just blast them to get your points up, especially in a place where they come out of one direction, so the spray won't miss them.

Most of the levels dont' have a time limit... you figure it out. It's so obvious man, no one's going to believe any top score anymore in a lil while, even if ppl beat the game legit, without getting smoked.

If you have a CC i think you can try to revive your old xbox 1 account on 360 when you first load up xbox live on your 360.....

If not, you can just make a new one from scratch on the 360, you get a free month of gold out of the box just so ya know, and you can use microsoft gamerpoints to change your screename if you dont like the one you pick right away. The original name, though, i think can only be revived if you have the correct info, and same CC as before, new CC, im not sure, but you can try.

So Far, the HD movies are the only things going slow compared to the SD movies and HD and SD tv shows. well, i finally got to the end of gears today. all i can say is that game is mediocre at best. sure, the graphics are nice, but they have no life. i might as well be looking at old resident evil backdrops. the cover system is ok, but it's really sloppy. half the time you get stuck to the wrong object. close quarters combat is horrible; clunky and awkward. enemy design is uninspired for the most part and look like fat blobs running around. oh, and it's pretty short. i might try the online and see if this turd is worth keeping

Dead Rising is what sold me on the 360. Everyone should have a copy. Games this good are rare nowadays. When you buy your 360 DON'T LEAVE THE STORE WITHOUT IT.

First off, when you read the ads or the back of the box, all you see is that you spend 3 days in a mall packed full of zombies. The game is WAY more than that.

1) Very good story. You'd be suprised based on the premise of the game. Far from your typical b-movie zombie storyline.

2) You don't necessarily have to kill the zombies. In fact, you don't necessarily have to do anything you don't want to do besides several required scoops (another word for missions) and keeping track of time on your watch. It's very open-ended and the mall is very big. There's something to do in each store, whether it's changing your clothes or grabbing a stack of CD's to use as weapons, and the game is very rewarding if you experiment. You make your own powerups (by cooking or mixing things in a blender), or powerup weapons in ways that make sense but you might not think of at first (putting a frying pan on the stove for a while to let it get hot turns a simple melee weapon into something a lot more useful).

3) What I like best about the game is the characters. Even though there's zombies for days at the mall, there are a good number of survivors. Rescuing some of them is where the puzzle factor of the game comes in. You can't approach everyone the same and you're always against the clock so if you want to help them you have to think fast. This also creates replay value. There's no way in hell you'll rescue everybody, or even half, of the people your first go round. You'll miss a lot of time-sensitive cutscenes and shit. After you're done, trust me you'll want to go through the game again.

4) Some of the survivors don't want to be rescued. This goes along with why I like the characters so much. There's some crazy fuckers in that mall. And you'll have to play through a few times to run into all of them too.

That's the genius of it IMO. To put so much depth along with a good story under the thin veil of a gang of zombies. You'd think it was wack (kinda like the evil dead games are), but trust me it's very unique in it's design and there's nothing typical about it.

So I finally got to play Gears of War at a friend's house over the holidays. The game is of course amazing in terms of visuals, sound/music and gameplay, imo. However, I didn't like the "1 hit = death" situations. I've never liked that in games, not even back in the 8 and pre-8-bit days where most things killed you if you merely touched them. "Berserker" was funny though....it was like we were running away from some giant crazy retard, with unparalleled Retard Strength™. Ohhh the tense moments were hilarious: "Here he comes....jump out of the way....RUN!!! RUN!! OH NO!!!" Classic times there.

My brother modded his controller with the LED lights and what not. I don't think it was too difficult. He also "platinumized" his 360 as well, looks official.

As for modding the 360 for burnable games....no clue; plus I spend a good penny on the 360, i'm not going to F it up.

Modding with LEDs isn't difficult per say but experience with soddering and having hte right tools turns it from a 4 day process to something you can knock out in an hour...

Well, I got my 360 in November and here's what I think so far.

I have never felt a more comfortable controller. Ok so I'm a year late to this discussion, but damn this is a sexy controller.

Achievements. Whoever thought up Achievements is a genius. At first I thought it was retarded and novel, and I just ignored them, but after a while you just become addicted to unlocking them. It gets to the point that you just can't imagine playing a game without them.

Xbox live. XBL and the whole dashboard thing is just well fucking done. Man, I can't tell you how sick it is to private chat with my best friend, while we are playing different games. Switching games, fucking around on the dashboard, always connected in chat.

XBL Arcade is rad. I have Contra, UMK3, SF2HF, Geometry Wars Evolved, and Smash TV. Contra and Smash have great netplay despite what I have read prior to buying them.

Whoever did the netcode for UMK3 should be commended. Whoever did the netcode for HyperSF2 should be shot. Seriously.

As for actual games, I have Gears of War, Dead Rising, and ChromeHounds.

Gears is amazing, online and off, I fucking love this game. At first I didn't "get" Dead Rising. Once you really get into the game the game, though, you realize just how deep an experience it is. There is just soooo much to do ... too much, in fact. That fucker needs to quit calling me in the middle of boss battles.

I also bought the wireless headset and camera. Yeah , I know, I'm just trying to line Bill Gates pockets.

Ahem, but seriously, the Camera is awesome, and a bargain. 40 bones buys you a camera, headset, 1 month of XBL and UNO! And Uno, my friends, is one bad ass motherfucking game. Uno is a party zone, dude. Like, totally. If you are camera shy, stay away, but if you're like me and enjoy bein seen, it's fun as hell. Just make sure you are at the helm creating the game, so you can kick the lamers w/o cameras and maintain an anti sausage-fest environment. Which won't be hard because alot of girls play Uno, and there not all fat!

I'll now take this time to remind everyone again how LAGGY and SHIT SF2HF is and how SMOOTH and AMAZING UMK3 is. Please, Capcom, just let Digital Eclipse handle your next XBLA game.

ChromeHounds. ChromeHounds is underrated. You can now pick it up for the incredible low, low price of just thirty nine dollars and ninety nine cents! Yes folks. A great game at a great value! Ignore the critics and pick up this amazing gem!

Oh shit I almost forgot ... Lost Planet. This game is the bomb. I've played this Demo now more than Geometry Wars I think. I already preordered it from my local EB and I haven't preordered games from my EB since the Dreamcast days. Which was pretty dumb because DC games never sold out anyway.

Lets see what else? I fucking hate EA, I hate EA Sports, yet I can't stop playing the Fight Night Demo. Even though it controls like shit, I dunno, there is just something about this game. Knocking motherfuckers out is too satisfying, and yeah, I've probably knocked Roy Jones out about 50 times by now. When find yourself running into demos for some Fight Night after extended periods of online lag fighter I mean Street Fighter, you might as well just buy the damn game already I think.

I also played Sonic, and I just don't get all the negative press. I mean, yeah, I can see the flaws everyone talks about, but there is still alot of Sonic goodness in there. To me, it looks and feels just like Sonic Adventure 2 for the DC (which is the last 3d Sonic I've played). I just don't get why this game deserves 4's, maybe the Demo stage was one of the better ones or something?

So, with all that being said, overall I really like the 360. The games I'm looking forward to in the future: Halo 3, Blue Dragon, Lost Oddesey, Virtua Fighter 4, Virtua Tennis, and the new Armored Core.

It's great that I can buy/download stuff again. I instantly got Small Arms; that game is definitely one of the best things to hit Live Arcade. It actually managed to tear me away from Phantasy Star for awhile. I wish they gave the characters more of a story though...a simple 1 or 2 panel ending screen(like certain old fighting games) for each character would've been nice.

IF you're getting lag on HF then you're playing foreigners. When you join a room check there gamer profile and look at their location. The foreigners i usually lag with are from belgium, mexico, france, or new zealand. I usually get good connections with people from the UK and barely ever lag with people from the US. HF has the best netcode out of all the SF games online.

Some stuff is too much. I wish they would make ST the SF game instead of HF.

That AI cheats like a motherfucker (Guile's walking forward flash-kicks FTW), does anyone have those unlocked?? If so what is your secret?

Sorry to double post but I got a some questions about Gears.

Ok I beat the game on Hardcore, right. However, something fucked up. I got achievements for killing Raam on Hardcore, but I didn't get the acievements for beating the game or Act 5 on Hardcore (??), but rather just the Casual achievements.

See, I skipped out on playing Casual altogether, I just played through the whole thing on Hardcore. But, everytime I beat a level, I'd get -both- achievements (casual and hardcore).

What's even weirder is I got Insane Mode unlocked.

Any thoughts?

Also, I was wondering. I can continue right now directy to the Raam fight. If I take him out on Insane difficulty, do I automatically get the Insane Act 5 achievement? I need to know this before I start a new game up.

Sounds to me like when you started or continued on act 5 you picked casual difficulty, saved, then beat the rest of the stage on hardcore...
You'd have to go through the entire stage on the same difficulty IIRC.

I got Stage 1,2,3,4 and beating Raam on Hardcore. This blows.

Then again I have to go through on Insane anyway.
