If you're using pspvid9 I think there's a way to increase the volume.
Setup -> Profiles tab: Choose the quality-profile you like to encode in then at the bottom under 'Audio Options' there's a volume bar.

Encoding videos with too much of a volume boost starts to distort the sound.. I use the PMP Mod (homebrew video player) for its additional volume settings.
Az, go to the XMB (PSP main menu), then Settings -> System Settings -> System Information. If you're running anything below 2.81, you can use a software exploit to downgrade your system to 1.50 (I'll find the directions later).. 2.81-3.03 needs an unpatched copy of the GTA LCS UMD to downgrade.. anything above 3.03 and you're outta luck until hackers can find an exploit.
Does the PMP mod have .avi or .wmv playback? I remember hearing of a program that did a while ago.

But if I downgrade, then I won't be able to play some games (like MGS Portable Ops), right?
Yea, you'll still be able to play all the current games. Once you downgrade you can upgrade to a custom firmware - It's the latest firmware with homebrew capabilities along with a PSX emulator

I can't really offer firsthand experience with downgrading.. anyone else here tried it?
I have however updated my 1.50 firmware to the custom 3.10 OE-A.. it took less than 5 minutes to update, and it does everything it's supposed to do (all the 3.10 features, but with 1.50-style homebrew ability).. this easy installer worked like a charm for me for me.. but again, attempt at your own risk..

I can't really offer firsthand experience with downgrading.. anyone else here tried it?Me, I've downgraded 4 PSPs, and I can say that as long as you understand what you are doing and can follow instructions, the bricking probabilities are 0%.
The reason everyone keeps telling that you can brick your PSP is because people keep forgetting to charge their batteries or pluggging their unit to the electrical current or misplacing a file or two while downgrading which causes bricking, but once you get to custom firmware you can recover from any other brickage in less than 5 minutes.
Didn't D_A release a 3.03 downgrader some weeks ago?

So I haven't turned this thing on since a month after launch. ( ). My girlfriend just got me a copy of Tekken:DR and I can't play it. Says it needs 2.6, which came with the game.

I would reccommend the purchase of a bigger card.
Like most of the time's you will be getting rips if you want small file sizes which kinda sucks (imo, I don't know about others).
I would recommend at least a 2GB card... If you can, get the 4GB for all problems solved.
But just if your curious, some of the games I have under 512 MB are:
Bomberman
Sonic Rivals
SFA3 Max
Party Poker & Casino
KinniKuman Muscle Generations
Dave Mirra BMX
DBZ Shin Budokai
Super Monkey Ball Adventures
Fifa Street 2
Lumines 2
Burnout Legends (very very good game)
Tenchu Time of Assassins
love-Para (can't remember which game this is, might be pa rappa da rappa)
Boxing Rivals
Hot Shots Golf Open Tee
Mega Man Maverick Hunter X
GGXX
That's all I can think off. And these files are all '.cso' not .iso - which means compressed, but I'm sure you know of that already. Enjoy.

So I've been playing Ridge Racer Remix (aka Ridge Racer 2) and have been hooked on it for awhile (up until the difficulty snag of the EX tours).
If you missed out on Ridge Racer the first time, go import Ridge Racer 2 from Play-Asia.
Infact, if you guys are looking for any imports for the PSP, hit up play asia. They are having a 20% off sale till the 5th. I just ordered GG Judgement so I can't wait to get it in a week :-/.
Don't go looking for DJ Max 2. It's only on all the games that weren't released in the last 30 days.
Speaking of DJ Max... there is a demo out there and omg that game is hard. It's 5 button mode and it's just brutal (to noobs) since you have to decide which button is best to press for the middle note. So horrible. I'm thinking of buying the first game first and picking up DJ Max 2 later (since DJ Max is on sale).
Yeah I'm looking sorta forward to Richter Gone Wild feat. SotN. It seriously needs to look as good as Ghost n' Goblins though. That shit is amazing because of the art direction, let alone just all the graphical bells and whistles. And I hate the way Richter moves in this. If I have a PSX game I want to play on a psp, what's necessary? Convert the game to ISO, then convert it to psp format? or can I just leave it in iso format?
- Gotta have custom firmware before you do anything.. you should be up to 3.10 OE-A by now
- Leave it in ISO format
- Find and setup the Popstation converter.. version 4 is what I use and I have no problems with it
- After following the command-line instructions, Popstation will convert the ISO into an eboot (compressing the eboot at '9' level is recommended).. just put that eboot in a folder, put that folder in GAME (not GAME150), and you're good to go
The eboot will use ugly XMB images by default for the game you have.. you can make your own images (like FFVII loli rape hentai for your eboot of FFVII, for example) by using a program like PSX2PSP and adding your own custom .png files..

Complete graphic Restyle; Optimized code, 60 fps
3 decks besides the classic (FFVIII) , over 330 cards + bonus
For the first time MMO Infrastructure; Massive Multiplayer Online
A virtual world based on FFVIII world; Shop, buy and sell cards
Private messages; Live chat during the game; Friends list, black list
Possibility to view users' status, track their movements
New FFVII and FFX decks (coming soon FFIX deck)

The method of downgrading differs depending on what version of the official firmware you have. So it depends what version the new PSPs are being shipped with.
As far as I know, if you have FW 3.10, then there is currently no way to downgrade from that. But it won't be long until someone cracks it. I remember when there was no such thing as a downgrader, a lot of people said it was impossible :looney:
They were saying the same thing about custom firmware, as well.
Anyway, I recently downgraded from 2.71 in order to get 3.10 OE-A, and it was a very simple process. No GTA needed. I would suggest getting 3.03 OE-A as well, simply because the readme is a LOT easier to understand than the one that comes with 3.10 OE-A. The latter basically assumes that you've upgraded to custom firmware as well.
As far as downgrading to 1.5 in order to upgrade, it just depends on the downgrader.
You can find most (all?) of them at http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/
Just scroll down to "Downgraders" in the sidebar. Its a great site for PSP emulation needs, albiet rather untidy.
As far as Triple Triad, I love that game. I used to play an online, browser version by the name of Triple Triad X. Anyone else here used to play?
I got this TTPSP, but I haven't been able to try the MMO "mode" because wireless connections are hard to find here. :(
Also note; the first time you load the game, it takes a retardedly long time to load. But, thats only the first time it does that, so don't be alarmed :)
EDIT: Oh, how I miss Plus Wall though... :( And Combo is not working as it should, at least in Quick Match.

Hmm, this might actually be an opportunity to play PS1 games again. I'm halfway through BOF3 (or was like 3 years back). How do I convert my PS1 save file on my memory card to my PC/PSP if there is any way.
Unless you have a gameshark with the save file transfer thingymagig I don't think it's possible :wasted:

Omg that Gundam Seed game looks hella tight. Go to pspfanboy.com and check out the streaming video. I can so see myself caring about Gundam again. http://www.pspfanboy.com/2007/04/09/gundam-seed-brings-hot-mech-on-mech-action/
Edit: Just got GG Judgment Asia edition. Judgement is alright. The lack of throws and enemy varity (a lot of funky dragon gears) makes it way too boring way too fast. However, I have Slash now. I got my PSP modded and I can pull of all basic motions pretty well but fuck double half-circles n' shit. If I didn't have to worry about shaking the PSP while playing, I could probably pull them off easier.
Crappy thing about OG fighters. Games demand a lot of button mashing and d-pad motions. When a fighter is made ground up for a system it's easier to cope with.
Taito

^ I'm still on the fence with GG Judgement, because Accent Core is what everybody's playing now.. if #R and Slash made it to the PSP I don't see why AC wouldn't eventually.
..
That's awesome, especially since there isn't much homebrew games (like original games, not emulators) on the PSP that's really worth a damn.. the quality homebrew projects seem to get repackaged into official PSP titles.

It's everything you'd expect it to be if properly ported to the PSP.
Yeah well I'm not that into fighters Taito. I just wanted some GG on the go and I figured I go with the best and most recent version of the game (and Play-Asia was having a sale).

My first shitty PSP game has to be Metal Slug Anthology. Who put together this bullshit? There's loading in the middle of every level, the music is off-sync, and MS6 won't even load for me.. like the only reason I decided to plunk cash on this was to play a fairly new game (it definitely wasn't to play MS4 and 5). Tekken DR (if you don't own a PS3)
Music:
DJ Portable Max 1 and 2 (there is a demo for 2 out there)
RPGS:
I only own Valkyrie Profile Lenneth and I think it's terrific. Not a big RPG player. Maybe someone else can fill this in.

Megaman Powered Up (MUST OWN)
Megaman Maverick Hunter X
Daxter
Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal (MUST OWN)
LocoRoco
Third Person Shooters:

Compilations:
Sega Genesis Collection
Capcom Collections (Remixed and Reloaded)
Gradius Collection
Racing:
Wipeout Pure (and later Pulse) (MUST OWN)
Burnout Legends
Ridge Racer 2 (just skip the first one all together and either import 2 or wait for it to release in America)
There is even more out there. I'm just too lazy to think.

you can run psx emulation since 3.02 oe. and yes you can practically run any d/led games off the net. doesn't really need to be from the ps store. i don't think they have a wide variety of games anyway. you can also rip your own games and play it on the psp. just that i'm not familar with the process of doing so.
i personally get it from the net where other people have already created the psp format and load it from there.

If it's 3.30 and not 3.30 oe, then yeah, you have to downgrade to 1.5, then re-upgrade to the custom 3.30, which is 3.30 oe.
Also, for the people asking about the playstation emulators, I don't think there's an actual seperate emulator. Each PS game can be directly played on PSP by itself. Unless i'm thinking of PS games specially modified by Sony....

yo what's up Ephidel.Imo, there are 7 games out in the US for the PSP that are worth owning, and 6 that are not out yet but have already been confirmed. There are a couple that might be worth importing if u wanna look at japanese kanji (unless you are able to read it).The PSP is going to become a very good system tho after just a few more months.I'm trying not to be so biased, but alot of the RPG's and whatnot just seem really really generic and watered-down to me.There are the socom games as an honorable mention but I think there are better options. As for stuff like A3 or Darkstalkers,I don't see how one could play those games on a PSP.I'd just get mad as hell because the d-pad isn't good for repeated circular motions and you have to resort to using the L and R buttons as the 5th and 6th buttons.Tekken is another story tho.Tekken is playable on the PSP, as it is only a 4 button game with no double fireballs or 360's and shit on a d-pad.7 US PSP games worth owning
Tekken : Dark Resurrection
Metal Gear Solid : Portable Ops
Syphon Filter : Dark Mirror
Valkyrie Profile : Lenneth
Kingdom of Paradise
GTA : Vice City Stories
GTA : Liberty City Stories
first off,Syphon Filter is fucking AWESOME.The game play is probly even BETTER than mgs, altho the story of course is not. Also,Kingdom of Paradise is old but a great action RPG.Kinda reminds you of Dynasty Warriors, but it is a full-blown RPG nonetheless and very fun.Valkyrie Profile is a port yes but still awesome, especially if you have never played the game on the ps1.6 games that are coming out over here worth owning
Disgaea : Hour of Darkness
Jeanne D' Arc
Silent Hill : Origins
Castlevania : Dracula X Chronicles
Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition
Final Fantasy 2 Anniversary Edition
Disgaea is fucking awesome 'nuff said,Jeanne D' Arc is gonna be fucking sweet mark my words lol,Silent Hill go watch the vids on gamespot or somethn 'nuff said, castlevania 3 games in 1 (full original version of symphony of the night unlockable, original rondo of blood unlockable, and the main game which is a 3d remake of rondo of blood that is still side-scrolling) 'nuff said, final fantasy the art looks fuckin awesome 'nuff said.FF tactics,Wild Arms XF or whatevr it is,Persona,Shin Megami Tensei,Suikoden 1+2,and the King's Field games off the top of my head would all be good imports, but as for me I can't read japanese and I really don't like the idea of playing through an RPG-style game if I can't fucking read the shit lol.Crisis Core may be fucking cancelled it's been so long since there's been any news on it.

this is the route I went a long ass time ago which will produce the same result without the need to purchase any game. there's an easy 2.7 downgrader somewhere in qj.net, look for it. it's a simple click here and there and you're done.
here's what you're looking at: 2.6 ->2.7x (forget which version of 2.7) ->1.5 -> custom firmware 3.40 OE (or whatever it's called)
follow instructions carefully and you'll be fine.
after you got the custom firmware, then you can play isos, emulations, and psx.

it all depends on what you have to work with. if you have an unpatched GTA, use it, if not use 2.71 or 2.80 that doesnt need it. me personally, i've downgraded at least 5 different psps using the GTA method and i got flawless results everytime. i only prefer the GTA method because i've had the most sucess with it.

Wipeout Pulse may become the greatest PSP game of all time.
New interview....
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=75937
Highlights:
- Zone stages are now regular stages (so now we have more than 4!) with Zone graphics.
- Eliminator mode is back (your goal is to kill)
- Refined ship control.
- You have control while being on a mag stirp.
- No more disruptor. Now we get three more weapons.
- This game is beastly already.
Played some of Final Fantasy Tactics; I don't think there's that much lag but it feels much slower than I remember. The graphics are not improved too much but I like the cinematics and extras. I've just gotten past the first real battle, so I've much left to play.
The Final Fantasy I Anniversary Edition is strictly for FF1 fans, I believe. A few extras here and there maybe, but still the same NES style gameplay. The random encounters are killing me in this game (1-step, encounter, 5-steps, encounter, .5-steps, encounter) but for those who are actually looking forward to it, you might enjoy it more than I have.

The main things to worry about for CPS2/NG:
- You have to make a cache file for your ROMs >10MB (there should be converter software in the emulator's zip file)
- If you're running OE firmware, remember to store all your homebrew stuff in a folder named GAME150, not the GAME folder.. PSX games go in GAME though.

The main things to worry about for CPS2/NG:
- You have to make a cache file for your ROMs >10MB (there should be converter software in the emulator's zip file)
- If you're running OE firmware, remember to store all your homebrew stuff in a folder named GAME150, not the GAME folder.. PSX games go in GAME though.
no I know about the cache and stuff and how to load the "roms",but I guess I should have been more specific by saying I need info on how to load psp iso's. Emulator and roms are ok I have been playing puzzle fighter and Super Turbo and its fun, but the psp iso's how do I get them to have a sexy load and start like these youtube videos...

I mean I cant even start up an iso. Im lost =\

Popstation is built into the later firmwares. Unlike the other emulators, this one was made by Sony themselves. DAX just modified it to allow for non-PS Store games to run on it.

Play Asia sells Dpad toppers and other button attachments.. http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-14-71-bh-49-en.html
I still recommend cracking open the PSP and modding the pad (http://www.ufighterx.com/guides/videogame/pspdpadfix/pspdpadfix.htm) instead of using toppers, but it's your call..

Or send your PSP to the guy and he'll do it if you are scared. I did and I don't know why I didn't send it out sooner. It really is a night and day difference. And a night and dusk difference with the d-pad attachment.

I've had a PSP for a while and I was curious as to what games were actually good for it. I recently ordered Valhalla Knights and while it's fine to waste some time and a decent spot of fun the game leaves me wanting more.
I'm not concerned with emulators or anything, I just want to know if there are any real games out for the PSP that make the system worth owning, Japanese or American.

Well, I can tell you Valhalla Knights was a bad choice, unless you just have to have a RPG game. I also made a bad decision by picking up Blade Dancer.
Here are a few games worth picking up, depending on your taste.
Tekken Dark Ressurection
Daxter (Should only be $20)
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops (Recommended)
Burnout Legends (Should only be $20)
Burnout Dominator
Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories.
Lumines II (Recommended if you like puzzlers)
Megaman Powered Up (Child like, but very good)
Megaman Maverick Hunter X (short, but still good)
Kingdom of Paradise (Should be $20)
Wipeout Pure (Should be $20)
Syphon Filter Dark Mirror (Should be $20)
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords (Definitely recommended if you like Puzzlers and RPG's.)
Killzone Liberation
Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max.
Ratchet and Clank: Size matters
There are a few more good ones, but those are the main games you should have on your PSP, if you have a PSP. I have 3 games from that list and 2 games off the list. Dragonball Z Shin Budokai and Blade Dancer.
Some future up and coming games, you could be interested in.
Star Ocean 1 and 2. Remakes of the first games for the PSP, in a 2D/3D world. With voice acting, new characters, and updated graphics.
Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core: Blend of action rpg and rpg, I'm not quite too sure on the details. Though I know it features Cloud, Sephiroth, and Aeris.
Final Fantasy Dissida: Just really announced, but the one I'm looking forward to. Apparently from impressions out of the trailer, it showed Final Fantast 1 characters fighting, as well as Zidane vs Sephiroth fighting in a super smash brothers style.
I'm sure they're more, but those are the ones off the top of my head.

I can't believe I'm asking this but...
It's possible to enjoy emu goodness on the PSP even if you have firmware 3.01 (or the one right before the most recent firmware)?

Yes, if you have an unpatched GTA: LCS, you can downgrade from FW 3.03 to 1.5 and then upgrade to whatever custom FW you want. You'll know whether it's unpatched or not due to the firmware update in the game (I think unpatched is 2.0 or 2.6, someone needs to double check that).

to load an iso from most custom firmwares there should be a folder at the root of your memory stick called "ISO" stick your iso/cso files in there. if you need any help with getting isos or converting to cso(saves a lot of space) pm me.

well hello psp fans! if i were you, i'd recommend pspvault for most of your ? 'cause i think they have actual instructions on this subject. but on a serious note, valhalla knights got an extremely bad rep from gamespot's site. that game is just a cheap money grabber for those who are desperate for an 3d rpg imo. the best is yet to come in the psp industry, so i'm just going to wait till that happens. theres a good quantity of games out there and more is yet to come.

PSPRadio is a homebrew application for the PSP. You have to either downgrade to firmware 1.5 or use the new custom firmwares (which is a mix of version 1.5 and newer firmware like 3.10).
PSPRadio allows you to connect to shoutcast so that you can play streaming music to your PSP via Wifi. This is a MUST HAVE application.

^ Cool, let me know how it works..
EDIT: I tried this myself.. the video out is 30 fps (that's probably the best you could expect through USB anyway).. and the only time the PSP doesn't consistently shut off is when I'm browsing the XMB menu.. executing UMD and homebrew is totally hit-and-miss..
This is totally experimental stuff, so 'PSP on your PC' isn't that practical yet.. and as always, attempt at your own risk.
If you want to try it out for yourself, this set of instructions worked for me.. http://forums.maxconsole.net/showpost.php?p=520819&postcount=1

I can't use my PSP.
It's actually broken and not in a bricked way either.
I'm playing Katamari and my little cousin guy starts walking up automatically and I'm like "Damn analog getting out of whack."
So i turned it off since i was finished but I wanted to put some music on it. Yeah. Um.. I can't hit down at all. It only jumps back to up. This is really really bad.
I'm guessing something came a loose inside because my PSP has been modded so I'll check it out tomorrow. If that's not what it is then I'll be looking forward to that redesign something fierce.
Remeber yall, keep your psp safe!

Haven't been following this thread at all since the last few months anyways what do yall think of psp when compared to ds overall? (not counting a hacked psp cuz that makes it totally unfair)
I own both and a few months back like around December i woulda said IMO they're are roughly even cuz they cater to different audiences and they more or less have an equal amount of "good" games so no matter which u choose u wouldn't be making a bad choice cuz both are toptier in terms of providing handheld quick fun but now i think i slightly lean more towards the ds since ds has lately been coming up with qutie a few quality titles AND what really pushed me over the edge is that ds gets an exclusive decepticon version of the transformers game while the psp gets the same movie version that will be on 360/ps3 n yeah that did it for me.
edit: MGS PO is still the fucking greatest handheld game EVAR especially online followed closely by wipeout pure and metroid prime hunters.

I prefer my PSP. And honestly, now I know the reason.
Games are mad cheaaper yo. A PSP game can launch right now from anywhere between $19.99 and $39.99. Then about 6 months later it will probably be $20 or less it seems. My collection is 21 games deep now and that's all because of the constant sales and price drops. I still don't own the great Nintendo DS games like Elite Beat, New Super Mario, and the now semi-rare Advanced Wars Dual Strike because they still go for the original asking price, and only less than that at launch usually with a few bucks knocked off, and barely less than that when it's used.
It's all about the one that caters to your wallet.
Edit: I don't know if MGS:PO is the best ya know. I may have to give that up to Syphon Filter even though I don't even own it yet myself (but I will since it's *gasp* a greatest hits title. See what I mean?).

You got links to all the important homebrew stuff rig
Links to the two most important psp sites
http://pspupdates.qj.net/index.php for constant homebrew updates
and
http://www.pspfanboy.com/ for news and demos.
I mean if people know what's up on the homebrew scene and the usual news they should be straight.
EDIT: I fixed my PSP. Disaster adverted. Something happened with the D-Pad and it got stuck on up but a lot of jiggling and tapping unstuck it. Glad I didn't have to crack her open.
EDIT2: UMM. I sort of fixed it. I may have to crack it open to line the d-pad n' shit back up. It's all Katamari's fault. Damn we need two analog sticks.

So I've started playing Daxter. Wow. If that isn't a console quality game... I can't wait to play God of War now.
Oh and hit up pspfanboy for 4 more demos. A couple of airport sim demos, an rpg demo (I think), Gurumin, and PQ2. All in japanese though, :(.
Oh and if you have the Chotto Shot, pspfanboy has the software for it in it's new European English variety.
They also have some screenshots of R-Type Tactics. Game looks, intresting... I need video.

RType Tactics looks interesting, but I don't see myself paying full price for it, and I'd need an English version to bother with it, and the odds of this getting localized aren't that great.
Maybe this title will lead to making a traditional RType game for PSP.. although RType has to be my least favorite horizontal shooter series..

It'll get localized. I mean Final got localized (and could be found everywhere, even under your dog's doggie bowl) and that did OK I guess. I'm sure better than Raiden III is doing.
Sendo De Ronde is getting localized so I mean, I see it coming. And R-Type isn't a favorite of mine now that I think about it but I do love Delta and Final's story and atmosphere. And I love Leo's music.
