I noticed that there is a significant lack of PSP discussion here on these forums. I for one own a PSP and Wipeout Pure. So my first question to all of you PSP owners.

Yall fools use winpsportal? or whatever the hell it's called. I love that shit. In a few more iterations it could be some really hot shit.

And has anyone used xbconnect or some other tunneling service to play offline games online?

Any titles that you are looking forward to? Just Tokobots for me right now, I still have RR, Lumines, and Burnout to pick up later.

PSP game selection is pretty much lackluster in the U.S.

To enjoy the full benefit, you gotta import Japanese releases for now.

yea thats saddly true the us games realease list is pretty bad. However the existence of iso's(for some) and the no region lockout are awsome.

The bleach games are amusing, very broken but fun to play none the less.
Tales of Rebirth is Awsome even if it is a port its a portable port so im happy.
Every exten extra is awsome played the homebrew every extend and it just looks like a "real" version of that game.
Initial d looks awsome can't wait
Guilty Gear is a perfect port as far as i can tell from the little i played so VERY happy(really looking forward to christmas for this one)
GTA:... i don't like it but some do
SFA3: Yay SF game
I love the homebrew scene(actually its the reason i bought the thing) so sofar for the snes/genesis/old skool roms im happy and the new games are kinda just sweetener for me. I don't really even care for the new nextgen systems cause of this thing. And yes i hate sony and am a applefanboy(sorta)

Not Tales of Rebirth. It's Tales of Eternia... a PS1 port.

I bought it back in March when I got the PSP, but it's quite good. They updated the graphics and everything looks way crisper (3D objects as well as 2D sprites, and better special effects). It's still my favorite PSP game to date.

Sadly, there is no American distribution planned. Although people could just import the European release since everything will be in English.

I've also enjoyed Idea Factory ports of Generation of Chaos IV and Spectral Souls II (currently pkaying). They are both excellent SRPG, and GOCIV is actually slated for a American distribution sometime in the spring.

The unfortunate thing is that about half of the PSP games will probably never see the light in the U.S. That sucks for the consumers, cus I'm sure most people would much rather play these niche titles rather than crap EA stuff.

yea sorry that was a typo of dreams i wish it was a port of tales of rebirth. Yea its an awsome game. I love the tales of... series my favortie RPG series by far. The character developement in em is pretty good and their actually fun to play. Loving the ToP anime as well.

yea some of the way games are being released is kinda sad i bet the system will loose to ds as that stystems actually getting some good support and american releases. I serisouly never thought they'd release nintendogs here

YES EA is evil!!(although im kinda looking forward to fight night 3) EVIL!!1

Lumines owns my soul. Mostly I just play SNES games on it (RPGs and the like) and I've already gotten bored of Metal Gear and Dynasty Warriors. I ordered a copy of the Bleach game (2nd one I believe) and will get that soon. Currently looking for good RPGs as I have alot of time to burn (Stuck in Iraq).

At least there's no region-locks for games. I probably wouldn't have purchased the PSP if it wasn't for that.

One specific reason (aside from price, bugs, etc.) that's holding me back from buying the Xbox 360 is because I think I want a Japanese one instead. Even on the original Xbox, there were actually fair amount of Japanese titles... it's just that most of them didn't get distributed globally. And ones that did manage to come over the states often got shafted with poor treatment (good example is Phantom Dust, which was developed by Japanese branch of Microsoft. But Microsoft refused to distribute it under their name because they didn't think the game was good enough for whatever reason).

I hope Sony allows the PS3 to be region free as well.

apparently there's been a new downgrader released for 1.5 users to downgrade to 1.0. It apparently works only on "virgin" psp's right now(non upgraded or downgraded psp's".

Apparently what this opens the door for is ,something i was waitng to happen and immagined had to eventually, a costom firmware os. Basically a psp that can run all games and homebrew and well basically becomes personal pda with some good gameing power.

oh yeah link to the site that posted info http://www.psphacks.net/

GGXX = Great

I just started it, but Tales of Heroes is pretty decent. The animation is good, has old school looking sprites, but they move fluidly. Gamplay is your standard turn based battles. Oh well, it's still nice to have an rpg on the go.

Due to the lack of "must have" games there probably wont be much buzz about the PSP on SRK, GTA is the only must have in there library right now, although i do own Lumines and have played Wipeout which are both good IMO.

Legend of Heroes isn't that great. Graphics are beautiful, and the story is pretty good... but the gameplay in general is pretty dull and involves very little thinking.

I also might as well note that the one that just got released in the U.S. is not the first chapter of Gagharv Trilogy (which spans across Legend of Heroes III, IV and V). I own the import release of LOH III, which didn't do so well in Japan due to very simple combat system and heavy load times. Some of the problems were remediated in LOH IV, but it's still not that great of a game.

Bandai U.S.A. decided to not publish LOH III in the state because it did so poorly in Japan, and jump straight to LOH IV instead. But the story in LOH IV basically takes place about 50 years before LOH III so people won't necessarily be lost playing it without knowing LOH III. But it might be a problem if they plan to play LOH V as well. And for the Japanese release, save file for LOH III unlocked some extra contents in LOH IV.

My guess is that LOH V is not even going to get a distribution in the States, and what people know as Legend Heroes on shelf right now will conclude as a singular release.

It's unfortunate that LOH IV is the only traditional RPG available in the U.S. along with PoPoLoCrois. Among all RPG selections available in Japan, those two rank among some of the worst (The PoPoLoCrois port is bad... and I mean bad).

Anyone own Ridge Racer?

I'd like to get it down the road but I already own WO:P so is it worth it to pick up another (albeit way different) racer?

mastermind
11-30-2005, 02:15 PM
I bought NFSU for my PSP when it first came out around launch time. I returned it the next day for Ridge Racer, and I loved it.

I dunno. I'm more into the unrealistic types of street racers (TXR series, Ridge Racer series), and Underground was just horrible to me, IMO. I hate ricer cars. And I didn't like the fact that in Underground, if you kept your car clean/a sleeper (no vinyl graphics on the outside), you didn't get props or whatever. Shit was stupid.

Plus you can drift much easier in Ridge Racer than in Underground. Probably because the cars aren't real. Haha

Well, NFSU and Ridge Racer are both 'arcade' racers. So neither are very realistic. And I do agree that Ridge Racer is a much, much better game. On top of that, NFSU is almost the exact same as the PS2/Xbox version, and it costs $49.99 retail opposed to $39.99 of Ridge Racer and most other PSP games. Again, it shows what kind of douches works at EA.

Or if you want a realistic racer instead, you should wait for the Gran Turismo 4 port.

Looking forward to:

Every Extend Extra
Capcom Classics Collection
Field Commander
Megaman games
Ghouls n Ghosts
Gradius 1-4 + Gaiden
SFA3Max
Whenever Devil May Cry comes out

I could care less about RPGs (well maybe I'll try FF7CC, whenever that's finished), so for me this was a pretty awful year for the PSP library with a few big exceptions ..

The Metal Gear Acid series is a disaster, this should have been a completely new franchise instead of making a Metal Gear game that has nothing to do with Metal Gear aside from one or two choice characters..

Also, anyone else surprised at the disturbing lack of Sega games for the system?? Hope that changes next year.

homebrew is about the best thing about the psp right now.. its amazing what has been done so far.. love my snes, nes, genesis, atari emulators.. great stuff.. plus the jpeg viewer app is cool for comics.... also got psp revolution, which is a ddr emulator..nifty stuff...

just a real shame the games have been slow to come.. but gta liberty cities stories is reallly quite impressive..never thought i'd see something like that on a portable system..so much potentional left, but not many games to use it unfortunately..

i just need a bigger memory card  the 2 gig is impossible to find

I sometimes feel like PSP is suffering a technological inertia. Everything about the system doesn't seem to quite fit with the current of game/technology trends... Although it's a decent success, I personally feel like it might have done better in the market if it was released couple of years later.

It's basically a 'game' that supposedly help you learn to speak various languages. American distribution is not set as of now, though.

It's an audio language program that can translate things in four languages. It also has tutorials to learn all four, I believe. It's derived from a decent learning program, and it comes with a USB microphone.

almost always, depending on the size. Some games are around 800 (Tony Hawk), 600 (Legend of Heroes) 400ish (Most, including Guilty Gear and Kindom of Paradise), and then there's the smaller games at around 200 (Ridge Racer, Need for Speed, Harvest Moon) and then there's the REALLY small games, which are like 1-50 MB, depending on what they rip (Star Soldier, Bust a Move, Panic Bomber, etc.)

I think it's just because Sony's a really subpar company nowadays and the right company (APPLE for instance) would have better supported PSP's technology/services. All this P-TV and Location Free and wireless internet--PSP has all the potential to rule the handheld market (well, maybe with a more compact redesign and ability to go directly into mp3 mode with one press of a button), but Sony's just putting its features to waste at this point. It's like the difference between, I dunno, Saturn's Netlink and Xbox Live--both companies pretty much had the same service but Microsoft really did something with the latter and the face of console gaming has changed in a big way because of it. Most of what PSP does is a trivial novelty a la the Netlink imo.

HOWEVER, PSP's only a year old worldwide, and it's covered a lot of ground as is.

I so agree with you there Taito. If Sony doesn't do something big for the PSP at E3 2k6 poor thing may die. I hope that PS3 and PSP connectivity will be a big thing. Bigger than GBA and GC connectivity.

Taito
12-01-2005, 04:21 PM
PSP is way past any danger of dying. Sony screwed up missed their opportunity to revolutionize and dominate, but PSP's cemented its place in every market, in every territory around the world.. far better than any non-Nintendo handheld before it. And that's all in ONE year.

At the very least, we'll see more on Crisis Core at E3 2k6. But we need Sony to do a LOT more for the PSP than just flood the market with MTV-level UMD movie crap..

I never said that it's bad. I personally believe that it's vastly superior to the DS in many aspects. I was just giving my two cents to why it seems to be taking a backseat to the DS for the general public.

And there isn't really lack of good softwares or UMD. It's more like a lack of good softwares and UMD in the U.S. Like I said earlier, the Japanese game line up (http://www.playstation.jp/psp/software.html) is phenomenal.

I think the key difference in the U.S. sales figures between the PSP and DS can be attributed to the fact that while many of the best DS games are already available here, most of the best PSP games are not in the States yet (and many of them won't even get released I assume). You guys can blame SCE America for that.

Alright, thanks. Are there ways to downsize ISO's? I downloaded GTA:LCS and it's a bit over 1GB, which is the size of my memory stick. Also, there's some kind of bypass where I can play it without updating the firmware, right? (version 1.5) Sorry, I'm a PSP noob :xeye:

grave450
12-03-2005, 01:06 AM
there are ways to downsize the iso's like cause i wanted to play virtua tennis on my 256 i deleted every level except the main 4 however it froze at everything else lol. There are better ways to do that with most games like delete audio.

GTA cannot be played on a iso loader at all as far as i know. And it would be hard to downsize that beyond deleting music and maybe voices cause the way the games designed.

the psp suffers because its made by sony and their stupid drm bulldonkey.

The unfortunate thing is that about half of the PSP games will probably never see the light in the U.S. That sucks for the consumers, cus I'm sure most people would much rather play these niche titles rather than crap EA stuff.

Trust me, people ARE playing the "EA crap." In America, they are an unstoppable force, and people buy those games. If anything, its the JRPGs that won't sell as much.

Me, I sold my PSP a long time ago (got all my money back somehow) and I got a DS. My friends were all like "WTF!? PSP IS TEH PWNAGE! DS SUXX!" but I didn't really care. Now, I almost regret selling my PSP considering the Japanese lineup is way better for the me than what's out here, but I don't regret getting a DS. Problem is that imports cost even more than American games (this is bad for me considering that the American games are expensive for a portable in the first place).

Most of the time, I try to hide the fact that I'm not a big PSP fan (America version), but I'm willing to help my friends with PSPs if they're all right with that. I actually recommend PSP over DS to most of my friends because they like those kind of games better (they are not big N fans, and they like pretty graphics). Where I live, though, PSP seems to dominate the school, yet it's not all for the games. Still, people ARE playing NFS, Madden, NBA, GTA, etc. Those are actually pretty popular games here. Having millions of ports isn't a problem considering that most people I know would rather buy the PSP version of X game than the console version. The same can't be said about DS.

Sounds like a psp issue.

I also have an issue. If I put my game to sleep while playing wipeout, like after pausing in the middle of a race, when I restart it still works fine right up until it reaches a loading screen. Then it just freezes. Lamest shit ever. I wish the PSP's sleep function worked half as well as the DSs sleep function.

People, this game seriously rocks so definitely consider picking it up if you like SRPG.

Hmm... I don't think it's officially set yet, although it's supposed to be sometime during the spring.

The game is not even listed in depth at the NIS America site yet.

Product Review

-Analog Stick Armor Kit from Dragonplus- (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=308&products_id=7263&)

I got mine off ebay for .99 plus 5.98 s&h.

The smallest stick is just a hair or two taller than the regular psp stick. It has a very smooth and rubbery soft texture to it. Imagine the dual shock sticks but smoother. It's better than the original stick's waffle iron grip. So good bye old stick already.

The next two sticks stand taller than the original stick (so it won't work in the Playgear Pocket from Logitech). My personal favorite is the concave one which feels like the Xbox's analog stick but only smaller in diameter. The other one is convex and has the same feel as the smallest stick from the pack.

The next two are regular sized sticks so they are freaking huge in comparison to the psp. And that works against them since they are really meant to be on a ball analog and not a sliding analog device. When trying to play Wipeout Pure I have a habit of wanting to lean the stick which produced crappy results. Felt like I was pushing in the stick and like jamming it into the psp. The medium sized sticks seem to be the best choice out of all of these for gameplay. However, they interfer with the d-pad a bit (especially the biggest sticks).

In conclusion every psp owner needs to order these. Period. They are too cheap and usefull to pass up. Although I need more games to test it out with.

PopoloCrois FTW. Just got it yesterday. Very good strat RPG. Reminds me TOOOOOO much of FFT Advance. Graphics pretty damn good too. Anime cutscenes as well. I'm loving it. This is the first game I've purchased in like 5 months since Bleach for the PSP. I have to get Bleach 2 soon.

Pretty good game so far. Its your typical RPG. The random encounters are hefty though. Graphically its still nice. Takes it bag to the old school. From what I hear its two RPGs in one. Basically PopoloCrois 1 and 2 put together. Almost like Zelda where the hero grows up with time(although not visible on screen but in terms of character).

But its still worth the purchase. I really want to get Tokobot as well, but some jackass got to it before I did. CURSES VIRIGIN MEGASTORE!!! ONLY ONE COPY ON DISPLAY!!! FOOLS!!!!

Is a price drop even on the horizon for PSP? I want to get it but come on...200+ for a portable still isn't cool, imo. Is there even a "bare bones" version at all?

..I'll probably just try to get a "hook up" from someone.

I felt the same way for a while, but a friend of mine let me borrow his for a few days and I just had to have one. The screen is what does it for me. Its just so damn crisp. The games, movies, whatever you're doing on it just looks awesome. I honestly thought watching movies on it would be kind of a waste if you dont travel alot, but its great. I love watching movies on it even just at home sometimes. I havent done alot with mine besides games and movies and I still think its worth the price. Im about to start getting into the emulation and all soon.

There isnt a vast library of good games yet, but its slowly getting there, and there are some promising titles on the way soon. So far I have Metal Gear Acid, GTA: Liberty city stories, Kingdom of Paradise, Lumines, Socom, and X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse. All great games if you ask me. Especially GTA, and Lumines is my current drug of choice. The game selection alone doesnt compare to that of the DS yet, but I think it will soon, and everything else you can do with the psp makes up for it right now in my opinion. Get one, I doubt you'll regret it.

Yeah I heard the battles are pretty frequent. Graphics look great from the images I've seen. I heard its huge in Japan...didnt they make an anime of it? I'll probably try to get it next week, especially if its similar to FFT.

Tokobot is great. Friend of mine has it I played it for a while. I'll get it eventually but there are others I want first. Im hoping Valkarie Profile turns out to be good.

I'll probably get Tokobot before I even get the system. The thing is...I'm sure that is one of those games that will be absolutely GONE from existence a little over a year from now...like games such as Double Dragon Advance, Philosoma, the original psx version of Doom, etc. This has been my only complaint about the current era of the industry. If a game isn't like Halo-level popularity...chances are it will soon vanish, and become impossible to get, with the last hope being random people on ebay.(*something I'm still leery of. I don't trust people...especially not when you add the internet to the mix. Amazon is the only thing on the net I'm *kinda* okay with in terms of trust.)

They had a segment on Tokobot on Attack of the Show about a week or 2 ago. Apparently there is also a "combined robot" form. That game looks incredibly fun to me....besides, how can one seriously resist such cutesy-robot character design?

Alright guys here's my ranking for PSP's emulator scene right now.. this is all based on v1.50 homebrew compatibility btw.. anybody else feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or if I'm missing anything..

- 8-bit emus run PERFECT

NES and GB/C are 60 fps with accurate sound emulation.. I don't know of any compatibility issues (which games run and which don't)

I use Nester J and RIN for NES and GB respectively

- Neo Geo CD runs PERFECT

If you haven't tried this yet you're in for a big surprise. Games run at 60 fps with no loading (make sure you extract the files from the compressed folder otherwise the game will load like a Neo CD). The music files are .mp3 so the music plays just fine. Only problem is the Neo CD library is limited, and support for the system dropped after 1997. I'm REALLY disappointed that I can't take BLAZING STAR with me everywhere..

NeoCDPSP emu is recommended..

-- Genesis runs GOOD

You can't get a smooth and stable 60 fps on the DGen or PSPGenesis emulators, and some faster or sprite-heavy games like shooters don't perform that great on PSP. Sound is accurate only on DGen if you turn the rate up to 44khz, but graphic performance will suffer. Slower games like platformer/action/adventure/RPG games are very much playable, but there's room for improvement.

Overall, I think PSPGenesis is smoother and more tolerable than DGen, although DGen has a slightly higher compatibility list (one of my favorite Gen games Valis 3 doesn't work on PSPGenesis at all, but it works on DGen)

-- PC-Engine runs PERFECT but PC-CD/SCD runs OKAY

The HuE emulator can't play mp3s for your CD games (sound effects from the game's .iso will play though)! And the music in PCEP will NOT loop. Once the track plays once you play the rest of the level in silence until the next section cues the next track.

If you care about music in your games (like Dracula X's kickass soundtrack), there's no choice but PCEP, but HuE runs all PCE games at a smooth 60 fps, unlike PCEP.. it just won't play any music for CD games.

--- SNES NEEDS WORK

Any special graphic tricks like Mode 7 or Super FX or whatever isn't going to work. Contra 3's overhead stages won't work at all. Even without Mode 7 effects most games run pretty choppy and require lots of frameskip adjustments. If you want to play SNES on PSP, you should look for games that use as little Mode 7 as possible. One positive about SNES on PSP is the sound emulation is just about perfect, unlike Genesis emus..

SNES TYL is recommended over any other SNES emulator..

---- GBA is EXPERIMENTAL

No sound on any game, and the majority of games aren't playable. It's really too early to tell if GBA will work well on the handheld.

---- MAME is EXPERIMENTAL

I honestly don't think MAME will work for PSP.. a dedicated emulator for individual hardware like CPS would probably perform better than an emulator like MAME that tries to support everything. Anyway the compatibility list for MAME is LOW and nothing from the 90s onward works on PSP..

I'm looking into how well MSX and Neo Geo Pocket Color runs on PSP.. I'll drop my impressions here..

^ Uh it sounds like you dumped your PSP in the GP2X thread.. but no you can't load isos in 2.00+.. basically the further away from 1.50 you go the less you can do.. emulators don't work as well either..

By the way, the new SNES TYL emu (v0.3) is a big improvement over the last ones.. it's still not perfect but I have a feeling that we'll probably get there eventually. Basically everything runs at 50-60 fps as long as there's no Mode 7 onscreen (the game slows down pretty bad when M7 is used). So F-Zero and Mario Kart are unplayable but stuff like Mario World is pretty much perfect. One of my favorite SNES games, Cybernator is running pretty damn smooth.

I wasn't at all impressed with the SNES emu before, but I'll give it a lot more playtime from now on..

i know i'll come back to the psp some day but right now it was just too much money and too much hassle getting screwed over with new games/sony updating their newer games.

Yea, GG Judgment is combination of GGXX#R and Boost Mode. No confirmation on specific release date yet, though.

I'm still working on Spectral Souls II: Unlimited Side. Granted, I haven't played it for a while but I've spent at least 80 hours on it and I'm only about half way through with the game.

Guilty gear on the psp is the same as the console version, only thing I notice is that the characters lose a little resolution. Other than that its the same thing. As far as judgement it's slated for the u.s release. the japanese was barebones with no extras.

Any Tomb Raider fans in here? No? Didn't think so.

Well Gamestop says that even the PSP version of Tomb Raider is shaping upt to be a great game, featuring three new exclusive modes, including one confirmed multiplayer mode. And another cool PSP/PS2 feature is the ability to send save files back and forth between the two games since they are the exact same game (cept PSP's visuals dont' look as good as the PS2's). So you could start a level on the PS2 and then finish it on the PSP.

Imagine if the next PSP Monster Hunter could work with the sequel on the PS3. What a way to get people to buy both copies.

What I heard about the Dpad is it does help the control a lot, but the A3 Dpad sticks to your PSP's Dpad with some ultra-strong adhesive. Once it's on it stays on, unless you forcefully tear the Dpad off at the risk of damaging your handheld..

There's a warranty-voiding mod you can do for your PSP that can improve the D-pad's performance without adding some D-pad (that might make the PSP tougher to fit into a protective case).. I haven't tried it yet, but I think I'd prefer this to the A3 pad..

http://ufighterx.com/guides/videogame/pspdpadfix/pspdpadfix.htm

Anyway, plenty of people in the FG forum have A3^^ right now and they dropped their impressions about the game and the pad.. EDIT: What FurryCurry said

And finally, Capcom's offering the Dpad with the American A3 MAX if you preorder from their website..

Eh.. how's that different from Tekken Tag 1? I'm cool with a HSF2-type game as long as there's 4, 5 and DR elements in it..

PS. Yeah I was trying to say that PS2 would get DR under the Greatest Hits label, just like VF4E and Devil May Cry 3:SE..

I thought that was what you meant but I didn't want to assume...

True, it's not (lol).......Hm... I don't see the need to put just a T5:DR port on the PSP. That seems so redudant UNLESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

If you read my bit about Tomb Raider Legend and how you can transfer your save files between both PSP and PS2 versions. If we do end up getting two versions of DR then I think that Namco should follow the same route. No matter where you go, you can increase your skills in Tekken 5... Sounds like a tag line.

Blade Dancer (http://www.playstation.jp/scej/title/bladedancer/) looks pretty sweet. It's a turn-based RPG but there's even a ad-hoc mode that allows up to 4 people to play at once. The cell shading in opening movie is butt-ugly but other than that, the game looks awesome.

2 games coming out in the U.S. this month I highly recommend:

Generation of Chaos IV: Another Side - I've ranted about this game many times in the past, but let me say again that it's a awesome SRPG. Probably a bit different than what people are used to, but if you like challenging strategy RPG (i.e. Disgea) you will love GOC. I played this game for over 150 hours, and still couldn't complete everything.

Ys IV: The Arc of Napishtim - PS2 port, but Nihon Falcom actually retuned the graphics. While a good chunk of the game is still 3D rendered, characters and some other elements were changed into sprites to give it traditional Ys atmosphere.

Ok where did you hear that from? Don't go screaming out ish with no links. You know that doesn't fly on S-R-K.

Plus, do you know if they are including the ingenious idea started by Tomb Raider Legend and letting you transfer your save back and forth between the console and handheld versions? (assuming there is even a console version to speak of and that they are both identical minus graphics)?

Yeah the neo cd 'roms' are supposed to be in iso format.. extract the contents of the iso into the main folder and make sure you have a music folder named 'xxx.mp3'

Also, do you have the Neocd.bin file? Make sure that you have every file the emulator's readme asks for. If you don't, you can type up the filename in Google and you should find an emulator site that has that file(s) available..

More info on Tekken DR.

MORE INFO! Sommabitch look at them pictures! Game looks amazing.

It's not Tekken 5 though... but it has T5 characters in it. I guess that throws the file swapping idea out the window. This looks to be fun with the inclusion of some older characters.

So it's more like... Tekken 5: DR Remix!

EDIT: http://psp.ign.com/articles/688/688919p1.html Well this "is" Tekken 5: DR since ign mentioned more items so maybe I can still get my save file transfering abilty. That would really suck if the games are pratically identical but you can't share info between the two. I mean I hope Namco siezes this opportunity to do that as well as release the first UMD-DVD game pack. Imagine selling T:DR for $34.99 or T5:DR for $29.99 (or 19.99 if it's eligible for Greatest Hits) but then combining both games together for a $50 deal. I mean that's what Sony is doing with their UMD and DVD movies from now on. I think we should see games like this as well, no?

It looks awesome for a handheld but you can tell that some detail is lost. I'm not sure if all the effects are gonna make it over either (like the heat ripple effect in the burning house stage). Plus with the screwy PSP control, you can forget about doing any advanced inputs or juggles without breaking your thumb. I hope a version of DR is released on PS2 that can properly emulate the System 258 game.

PS. The PSP game is called Tekken: Dark Resurrection.. no '5' to be found anywhere..

Basic inputs, definitely, but probably not JF or EWGF or whatever..

I'm basically saying that sticks are more accurate than pads, and I wouldn't mind a home version that can let you use the equipment that the arcade game uses.. but if you can pull off advanced stuff on a regular PS pad then there shouldn't be much problem with the PSP..

Well next month in Japan I'll be buying valykrie profile and sakura taisen1&2 which funnily enough are both ports which I've played tons of times before but I guess it would be nice to use my psp rather then let it gather dust.

Damn this thread blows and I created it.

Says a lot about the PSP's vocal community of gamers. Anyway, for all of your US Wipeoute Pure owners out there, there are some new "secrect" packs available for download. Just go to the download site with the game (if you can) and go to Secrect Downloads.

From there here are the Codes to get two brand new models and two skins of an older ship with their own specs so they are represnted by their own special names.

Socom 3 pack: X Triangle Circle Square (new skin and new specs)
Jak Racing pack: Square X Triangle Circle (new ship)
Socom FTB pack: Triangle Circle Square X (new skin and new specs)
Daxter pack: Circle Square X Triangle. (new ship)

This isn't as good as the Omega (4 new psychadelic tracks) packs that are available in Europe and Japan but it'll do for the next 45 mins.

Hey guys, Every Extend Extra is going to be an awesome game. It's from Q Entertainment's head boss (creator of Rez) and unlike Lumines which was more Tetris with flash and sound, E3 as I'm calling it from now on, is more like Rez since it's a shooter.

Although it works different from a typical shooter. Think Asteroids and Missile Command with Rez as the baby's daddy/momma. The object of the game is to blow yourself up near the flying objects or enemies while creating a huge chain reaction. Every time you kill yourself you lose a life but if your chain is big enough you gain an extra life. Couple this with a race against the clock (if you are killed before blowing yourself up there is a time penalty to face) and you have a very frentic and flashy game.

No release date has been annouced since the date on the trailer is 3 months old now. What you can do however, is go here...

See what you don't understand is that you are interested in MM:PU because it's so different in terms of style and gameplay as you switch characters from the original game. Trust me. It's worth owning.

I like Metal Gear Acid 2 and Burnout Legends (although Revenge or 3 on a console are probably better, just not portable). You didn't mention Wipeout Pure so I'll assume you never heard about how great it was so I'll let that slide. Other than those four games I just mentioned I guess you are good for now.

Get Revenge on the 360. The graphics and larger variety of courses is what sells it to me. I'm waiting on Burnout to drop to 19.99 or something.

Well MM:PU is worth owning because *deep sigh from repeating this so often* is that you can create as many levels as you have space, play as all of the robot masters, play as roll and protoman, spend your sweet time playing the challenges mode, and download user created levels. This increases the longevity of the game for quite awhile. Plus the remixed levels have been really remixed and they all have special paths for bosses. It's a whole nother game.

With MHX it's meh. I mean I'm sure it's awesome but once you play through all of the difficulites and vile mode then all you have left is to watch a 25 min anime.

And Xyanide? Shit. When was the last time anyone heard anything about this poor game? It was supposed to be out last fall right? I hope it's still on it's way. So I can't tell you how good or bad it'll be on either system. Although the biggest question you have to ask yourself is do I want to play on a big screen with better graphics and sound OR do I want to be able to play while taking a dump in a different city?

Hey bitches, play Every Extend (http://www.download.com/Every-Extend/3000-2099_4-10347823.html) already. Shit. I can't stop playing.

It's about time for me to get some new games. I'm thinking Edith Memories: Generation of Chaos V (http://ideaf.co.jp/generation/edith/memories.html) and Shinseiki Evangelion 2: Tsukurareshi Sekai (http://www.bandaigames.channel.or.jp/list/psp_eva2/).

Innocent Life (http://www.mmv-i.net/game/psp/innocent_life/), the completely new installment in the Harvest Moon series looks really good too.

For all the Europe folks, Sony's bundling the PSP with Daxter for €249.. here's what the box looks like..

There's also rumors going around that Europe will get the White PSP..

I wish the faceplate was made of much harder, scratch-resistant plastic (like what Sony puts on some of their cellphones and all of their Blu-ray discs). And if some nameless Japan or Hong Kong company started selling replacement D-pad kits so you could control fighters and etc. better. Also, the screen does low refresh rate and could be brighter (although it looks fine as is)

The PSP's standard black color is perfect, but a choice of extra colors couldn't hurt.

Oh but Taito, Sony would have to care then honey. And we all know how much Sony cares, especially about America, who never sees any system of theirs in a different color!

Let's face it, if you want a well made console that will work 3 generations from now, but something from Nintendo or Sega.

I already said that Sony Ericsson phones and Blu-ray discs are coated with hard plastic that's invincible against simple scratches.. I thought that material would end up on the PSP, but no such luck. I'm just holding out for an accessory company to make a really durable faceplate and just replace it with the stock fragile one.

PS. We know that PSP will get different colors down the road in Japan, but other than the price of importing, it doesn't matter in this case because the system is region-free (aside from UMD movies, which nobody buys anyway)..

There's a new PSP firmware for Japan (2.70)

http://pspupdates.qj.net/PSP-version-2-7-Official/pg/49/aid/28161

Also on 4/25 Japan time, you can download the Loco Roco demo to your PC for play on a 2.70-compliant PSP..

Can someone update me on the status of homebrew? I havent been keeping up for the past few months.

Last I heard, 1.5 was necessary, which is why I got one. But now I'm hearing that some games won't run on it?

Basically I'm trying to get SFA running on my MS. Can someone help me out?

Homebrew only works with firmware version 1.5, which is why I haven't upgraded mine at all.

I really don't care about not being able to play some of the games, as they're mostly just watered-down PS2 rehashes anyway.

For a console where I actually want to play the games, I have a DS.

I just use my PSP for emulators.

Bumping this thread in preparation for all the big announcements at E3.. here's some of what you should expect:

- The rumored PSP redesign? (I recently fixed my broken 1.00 PSP, so I have a 1.50 and a 1.00 PSP.. 1.00 isn't worth much for homebrew but I can still use it as a backup incase anything happens to my 1.50.. so I'm counting on a redesigned PSP for use as my legit game player, but if nothing gets announced I'll just upgrade my 1.00.. I'm NEVER upgrading my 1.50 though, 480x272 movies from the mem stick and portable emulation are too good to give up)

- There's gonna be a new Metal Gear SOLID action game on PSP revolving around Big Boss.. it takes place after MGS3 and ties into the events of MGS4.. and the big gameplay feature is the inability to continue after Game Over.. when you die in the game you stay dead.

- Hopefully they'll shed news on the 3.00 firmware and the Sony Connect relaunch.. looking forward to the ability to download PS1 games and books and stuff..

Should I resurrect this dinosaur or do we need a new thread? I say keep this around because significant PSP updates are pretty sparse..

Anyway, Ridge Racers 2 was announced in the latest Famitsu.. if scans surface I'll post em..

I hope it's actually difficult.. as great as RRs was, I always ended up in 1st place against AI by the middle of the second lap, without ever using boost for the entire race.. compare that to Wipeout Pure where I mostly placed 1st in Phantom Class by pure luck.. seriously tho, RRs was the perfect portable game (it's a full-fledged 3D racer, it's totally pickup-and-play friendly, the playing sessions are brief like all portable games should be, etc.)

Might as well cross post this here. Maybe it'll help breathe some life back into this thread.

The English demo of Loco Roco is available for download now. Just go to:

The latest Content Pak includes the 2.71 system update & the Loco Roco demo.

Does anyone know how I can downgrade a 2.60 PSP to a version 1.5?

For now, downgrading 2.01+ is impossible, but yesterday a new door was opened for the 2.5, 2.6 firmwares by means of a new exploit. Read here:

http://pspupdates.qj.net/Breaking-News-2-60-Firmware-Exploit-Found-Kernel-Access-/pg/49/aid/57216

Basically, what this means is that in the near future, 2.5 and 2.6 will gain some of the cool features of the 1.5 firmware, except that they will still have to be loaded through the Fanjita GTA exploit. Fanjita himself is working on a loader using this new exploit.

What's cool is that soon we'll be able to have decrypted 2.6-2.71 firmwares for Devhook, which you'll most likely be able to run on your 2.6 very soon.

Whatever you do, DON'T UPGRADE!

Enjoy!

I dunno if I should mention this here but I'm modding my shit.. I'm no pirate but full-resolution video and other homebrew apps are too good to pass up.. just as soon as I get confirmation that Sony can't crack the mod (I really don't see how because the PSP NAND is off when the Undiluted Platinum NAND is on, and vice-versa.. the PSP firmware and the modchip shouldn't know either one exists.. still I'm not gonna jump in and pay $200 until I know it's Sony-proof)

I'm playing a Famitsu demo of Ultra Ghosts n Goblins.. it looks amazingly good but the control is typically clunky like every other GnG game.. it's the kind of stiff control that makes you fall into pits accidentally.. also it's bloody difficult in Arcade Mode but a lot more manageable in Original mode (more health and lives). And it's pretty deep, with lots of armor and powerups (lots of powerups from past GnGs.. the whip and Samurai armor powerups are new to the series).. it almost reminds me of a pre-SotN Castlevania in a way.. which is just as well because this is this is the closest thing to a Castlevania game PSPs gonna get..

EDIT: As for my last post.. fuck modding, Devhook is The Truth..

You have to watch the 1up Show review (7/14/06) of the game. 8.0, 8.0, 6.0 from SHANE. The other two reviewers try and figure out why Shane gave it such a low score.

^ yeah that was pretty funny how they tried to understand why he gave it a 6. I got the game since I like RPGs and this one looked really nice. Haven't played much of it yet, but will tomorrow. I'm getting Tekken: Dark Resurrection next week, so it looks like psp games are eating away at my wallet now. More good games are coming through.

I really hope What the heck returns. From an interview in Play magazine it won't have every single level. I hope 90% of the gimmicks go through like snot bungee jumping, the dark rooms with the chasing eyes, falling down a shaft and fighting the boss, the queen being super duper huge, psycrow bonus rounds or something like that, etc.

Be even cooler if the game had special characters. I hope it does well enough so we can have a remake of 2.

It seems to me that if you don't own a PSP firmware 1.5, then you can't emulate? It's kind of sad that PSP users are so hooked on playing emulate
