I'm glad Greengrass got a nom as well. I thought United 93 was a more appropriate depiction of 9/11 than Oliver Stone's World Trade Center, although the focus of 93 was more centralized.

I still haven't been able to catch The Departed. Question to anyone who has seen both The Departed and the original "Infernal Affairs": Does seeing IA first take away from The Departed since you know more or less what's going to happen? Has anyone seen The Departed first then IA?

Xenozip.

^
Yeah I feel it takes away from the experience. I saw IF first and I strongly disliked TD. I felt that TD was way too Americanized and the plot twists were pretty much spoiled.

It's like watching the same movie, but I felt they made the western version "cheesy" and overemphasized the wrong things.

I saw Departed 1st then IA.. Departed's dialogue alone sets the movie apart from IA (doesn't make it better but makes it worth watching, even if you prefer IA).. I liked how they handled the ending and the boss in IA better, I felt everything else in Departed was superior. Plot-wise, both movies are practically a scene-for-scene match, with Departed dropping some surprises, changes and artistic license here and there.

it's funny, i called the forest whitaker nom from the first preview i saw of last king. kate winslet can do no wrong, she gets nommed every year...not saying i'm not happy, i LOVE kate. i am in love with kate. she's like the oscar sweetheart, she does a movie, they nom it...

maybe she picks movies she knows will get nominated because she's good at recognizing whats a good script and whats not?

no, i'm not bashing kate. i love kate. i love kate sooooo fucking much. kate is actually my number one of celebrities i would do distgusting acts just to be with. i also think she is a brilliant actress. it wasn't a bash at all, she seems to be the oscar golden girl of this generation.

so, now hollywood has found it's new way around making "remakes" by doing the broadway show version of the story on film...i know this has happened for the producers, but now hairspray? this is all a remake in my book and how can you top the og hairspray with licky rake? i can't believe this. however, seeing john travolta in drag and christopher walken in, well anything, might entice me. i am, however, a john waters fan and i'm not very happy with remakes of any kind. i never even bothered with the producers remake. yeah, i'm calling it a remake, cuz essentially, thats what it is...same characters, same story...being on broadway does not excuse remaking quality cinema. hairspray is not "quality", but it's john waters...

so has anyone seen the movie, The Proposition with Guy Peirce?

that was a pretty intense movie...a VERY general synopsis of what it is about...the main character Guy, is given a proposition that to save his little brother from prison he has to kill his older brother, who is a crazy ass maniac wanted for murdering people...

serioulsy it is very intense...

i would say that it could even go on a top 10 list for top movies of 2006...

Went to the Grindhouse last night and watched an awesome movie by Jack Hill called Switchblade Sisters. Had to bail on the second feature because my girl is sick at home but Jack Hill and one of the actresses was in attendence and did a Q&A.

I used to watch Rad religiously back in the day (waay back) along with some other bike movie called bmx bandits. In Rad, I could never understand why the bad guy waited for the main character to catch up in the big race at the end. Those two movies along with Thrasher and Gleaming the cube were my childhood.

also watched Primer - pretty good, makes me glad I have no engineer friends. I couldn't even watch this movie the first time I saw it because I was having a few drinks. Second time watching it was much better, but the dialogue was still so annoying because it was so scattered and bitchy (like they had too much caffeine). I'm sure they intended it though.

Good concept. It's probably better that they filmed it that way, but it was just a bit too raw for me. Not one of my favorite "think" movies.

One thing Matrix and Equilibrium really have in common is, some filmmakers shouldn't make sequels or followups.

I noticed the word 'Pitch Black' in the above quoted post.. that movie applies to what I said as well.

Yamakasi.

It was a piece of shit from what I remember of it. Horrible. The easiest way to have made it good shit was make it a piece of trash that glorified each and every stunt but it was some sort of moral story in the end.

Okay, it might've been good, I dunno. But I hated it.

EDIT: Props to them for being fucking good at what they do though. Too bad it made a horrible movie.

Yup, I finally watched it this weekend as well. For me first time through I didn't feel I was paying too close to the story as scenes tended to run long and I just enjoyed watching the actors do their thing. It felt less kinetic than most scorsese pics, and while I definitely enjoyed it, I don't think it amounted to as much in the end as I expect from his stuff.

Also finally watched the new Seven Samurai disc and it is  . The picture looks probably the best it has ever looked and I can't wait to listen to the new audio commentary.

isnt that movie by michel gondry? Gondry and Cunningham has got to be my favorite music video directors. Their creative vision is just like. WHOA WOWIE.

Though I dont agree with IMDB's top 250 list, I started a project of watching all of them. I started about 1/5 of them Now at about less than half done. I started with Indies and foreign films first cause usually if they are on the list, they are on it for no other reason than being a good film. Not because its popular of big budgeted CG-action spectacular.

I have 2005 IMDB excel spreadsheeted so none of the 2006 movies are on my project yet. Maybe when Im done, I'll try the updated list.

I friend of mine gave a copy of “Big Money Hustlas”. Well not so much gave as more in he said “I’m getting rid of some my old movies I don’t want no more and here” then he hopped in the car and sped off before I could see what it even was. God damn I know I used to listen to Insane Clown Posse when I was younger strictly as a gimmick novelty act but I was never much of a fan let alone a Juggalo.

My god this movie is stupid. It’s a send up of old “Blaxploitation”. The main character Sugar Bear (shaggy 2 dope) is a cop from San Francisco who always talks in Rhyme. He is sent to help the NYPD take down Big Baby Sweet (Violent J) I’ve only watched about half of this thing and I’m not sure if I even wanna a finish it. The Sex scene alone made me want to puke. Picturethe a woman who you would never want to see in her underwear let alone naked. ya that's what you get. There are a few Cheep laughs here and there but they are few and far between.

Is there any reason to go on? I'm up to the part where Big Baby Sweet kills his whole crew and summons the Magic Ninjas. yes you heard me right magic ninjas :wtf:

A Fistfull of Dollars is based off Yojimbo, as is that 90s Bruce Willis movie Last Man Standing. I thought For A Few Dollars More was based on Sanjuro but Im not quite sure. Broad strokes of The Hidden Fortress were used by George Lucas for Star Wars (A knight leading a misplaced princess through enemy territory; the story being seen through the eyes of two peasants(droids) ). Also Rogr Corman did Battle Beyond the Stars which is 7 Samurai in space and Martin Ritt (Elon grad) remake Rashomon as The Outrage

Alot of the other stuff was based on classic literature, usually shakespeare (throne of blood, Ran), dosteyevsky(the idiot, ikiru, red beard), and even gorky (the lower depths)

have you watched night of the hunter yet?

Star Trek 11 stuff
February 26, 2007 - IGN Movies has learned from studio sources which actors may play the Big Three in Paramount's Star Trek XI. By the "Big Three," we mean, of course, Captain James T. Kirk, Mr. Spock and Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy.

Confirming rumors that have been making the rounds for some months now, IGN has learned that Oscar winner Matt Damon is indeed in talks with Paramount about playing the role of Jim Kirk, previously immortalized onscreen by Emmy winner William Shatner.

Damon brings star power and an acting pedigree to the role that should convince audiences that this is a serious reboot of the beloved franchise.

For the part of Kirk's Vulcan first officer Mr. Spock, IGN has been told that none other than Oscar winner Adrien Brody (King Kong, The Pianist) is in talks with Paramount to play the role. If cast, Brody would succeed Leonard Nimoy in a role that forever marked Nimoy's career. But with a Best Actor award already under his belt and an eclectic mix of films on his resume, Brody wouldn't have as much to lose by taking on the iconic role as Nimoy had.

IGN has also been told that Oscar nominee Gary Sinise -- currently seen on the small screen in CSI: NY -- is in talks for the role of Dr. McCoy, the ornery and politically incorrect ship's physician aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. McCoy's prickly relationship with Spock was the basis of much of the humor and humanity of the original 1960s series. The late DeForrest Kelley played "Bones" on TV.

Golden Globe and Emmy winner Sinise is no stranger to films about space flight, having previously appeared in Apollo 13 and Mission to Mars.

Those are the three actors that our studio insider advised us were the closest to being cast, with Damon's talks said to be further along than the rest. We have also heard of an actor being eyed for the role of Enterprise helmsman Lt. Sulu: Daniel Dae Kim ("Jin Kwon" on Lost). Sulu was played on the classic TV series by George Takei, who can now be seen on Heroes. We should stress, however, that Kim's possible casting is at a far earlier stage than that of the aforementioned three.

Lost, of course, was created and is executive produced by J.J. Abrams, who has just signed on to direct and produce Star Trek XI.

Sources also advised IGN that Scottish thesp James McAvoy may indeed be in the mix to play chief engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in the film.

Neither Damon's reps at Endeavor nor Brody and Sinise's respective reps at CAA had responded to our inquiries for comment at time of publish.

have you watched night of the hunter yet?

yes, i watched it on saturday while recovering from my wisdom teeth extractions. it was very good. mitchum is one creepy ass mother fucker, but too happy of an ending for the feel of the film, imo...

i've heard the hidden fortress/sw comparisson before. i knew that ran and throne of blood were based off shakspeare, but i didn't know about the others. doesn't miller's crossing have alot in common with yojimbo? i haven't had a chance to watch it yet...

Babel came out on DVD yesterday for anyone that's interested in picking up a copy. What's everyone looking to get?

Me: Babel, Little Miss Sunshine, Children of Men, Pan's Labyrinth

co-sign...although children of men and pan's labyrinth aren't on dvd yet.. are they??. and I'll add- the departed and prestige.

Last movies I saw:

Lady Vengence- Same director/ trilogy with Oldboy... nuff said (great movie).

Three Colors: Blue, White, and Red (for the second time). A trilogy by one of the best directors I've seen - Krzysztof Kieslowski. The colors Blue, white, and Red represent the colors of the french flag which stand for liberty, equality, and justice respectively (but it's not political). Highly reccomend these movies (mainly blue and red with Julliet Binoche and Irene Jacob).

Since I Can't find the DVD Thread at the moment (and the link on the front page doesn't work)

I'm gonna just post some things here:

my most recent DVD purchases are:

Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa
and
Tenacious D: In the Pick of Destiny.

POD is good, I think it was pretty much under the radar......very funny, quite sponaneous, and the music was quite good (of course, most rock musicals are good, so I'm thinking this flick will have a longer life as a rental than it ever did in theaters).

Conqueror of Shamballa is a great end to the FMA Series, I just have a problem with one thing:

when the movie starts, it kicks up the 'camera angle' option on my DVD Player (no matter what player I put it in), and it won't go away.

any idea what I can do to deal with it?

I went to see 'Hot Fuzz' last night and highly recommend it. It's a comedy from here in the uk by the team who brought you 'Shaun of the Dead' (the 'zom-rom-com' which gained critical praise from Romero himself). I've been a fan of their stuff since way back when they did the channel 4 sitcom 'Spaced', and what can I say, this new film is no dissapointment.

Some really big laughs to be had at this one. It's set in the UK but there are loads of references to US movies, that's one thing these guys do: load their films with subtle (and not-so-subtle) homages and references.

If this has got a US release yet then whaddyawaiting for, GO SEE IT!

Me and my friend found this website to watch free movies. onempeg.com or something like that.

I told him to click on the DoA movie. I just wanted to see the beginning for the hell of it. But we ended up watching the whole thing. Man, that was crappiest movie I've ever seen in my life. Terrible story, stupid fight scenes. There was even a volleyball scene with the girls. Gen Fu was in it for a total of maybe 1 minute. Helena hooks up with some nerd named Weatherby that was in the movie.

It was entertaining, I suppose. I figured since we already watched about a half hour of it, we might as well finish the whole thing. Now I regret doing that.

Weekend viewing:

The Sentinel (remake): Started out interesting enough but crashed beginning when Michael Douglas is revealed to be sleeping with the first lady. Movie falls victim to too many unbelievable actions by characters, from Michael Douglas running in the first place to basically every single thing the assassins did. Keifer didnt have much to do and his character was basically a joke. The one scene of the foot race between Douglas and Kiefer was extremely confounding in that while it is going on you have no idea what the purpose is.

The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill - This movie ruled.

i think it's a very tough year for films, whoever comes out on top, is not going to come out on top by a large margin. while it is a year filled with sequels, i think they will rate higher than 2006's dismal movies. pirates 2 was just a transition piece for 3, so 3 should be a better film. i know shrek 3 will do well, though after 2, i don't have high hopes of it coming near the quality of 1. spidey three is going to be the shit, as long as they don't over-do the special efx, which i'm sure they will. potter 5 will be good for the average viewing audience, but the book is 870 pages long, there is no way the potter fans will be that happy with the cuts they will have to make...my vote goes for spidey or pirates...

hills have eyes 2 remake = horrible

the hills 1 remake was one of my favorite remakes. it had good pacing, you cared about the chars, decent violence.

new one undoes all of that. pacing is horrible, could care less about the people, it fell into the one guy dies, pause, next ugy dies, shhocking rape, people die, etc.

hills 1 film had a grainy look to it that helped the mood a lot, this one is all bright and colorful

The thing is i kinda wanted to like it, cause i liked the original, thought part 2 ok, and 3 was meh, but this one just sucked badly, Leatherface became a transvestite and just became so fucking annoying, McConaughey's robot leg gave a me WTF look on my face everytime the camera focused on it.

I hear that the movie does have its share of fans, but i cant find a place anywhere where people are actually defending it.

Bottom line: "Night on Elm Street" series > "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" series.

i personally think NoES > any other horror seuqel like Fri 13th, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw, Puppet Masters, etc.
The Freddy character had a good backstory that was for the most part consistant throughout every movie, whereas with Jason/Myers it seemed their story changed every movie

I've always said my Favorite Horror movie of all time was the John Carpenter's "Halloween." Music from that movie(not just the theme) owns every other horror movie. Of course most of the sequels just sucked in comparison.

i just can't compete with the horror film knowledge of alot of the members on here, since essentially i'm not a horror fan. thats not to say i don't enjoy horror films, but my palate is very limited. my tastes lie in films like tcm, the omen, exorcist, carrie...the only more modern horror film i've seen that i enjoy is audition. i do enjoy the first nightmare, but did not enjoy any subsequent ones. i recently saw the og nightmare on the big screen with a followup of all trhe death scenes from each film.

weekend viewing:

The Howling II: Stirba - saw this a long time ago but wanted to watch it again before i move on to the rest of the series (I will NOT be watching new moon fever or whatever the fkc it's called)

Cobra - never saw it, go figure

Death Wish 3 - part 2 was good so looking forward to this one

So The Howling II was possibly the greatest horror movie I have ever seen  . I dont know I forgot about some of the stuff in it but this movie is straight GOLD.

Death Wish 3 was all sorts of awesome in the most nonsensically bad movie I have seen in a while. Death Wish 1 and 2 was somewhat realistic but part 3 is like a comic book. Hilarious good stuff though.

Cobra was pretty awful...the bad guys didnt even fight with the axes! Lots of 80s cheese.

Just rented and watched Rocky Balboa. Considering the fact that I had ZERO expectations for this movie, I was entertained. Some parts dragged, and the dialogue was horrid, but overall, the message was pretty good and the detailed way they depicted a fighter's past glory (all the pictures/ghosts on the wall) was good.

finally saw the prestige. i'm going to do my review in a spoiler tag just in case i'm not the last eprson on here to see it.

ok, i figured half of it out by half way into the film. i knew that the other guy was his double, figured it was his twin. the wife thing gave it away. it was an ok movie, not as good as i was hoping. i hate movies that rely on reality for 90% of the film, but a major plot point relies on fantasy. i felt the machine that made clones was a little over the top and too easy of a crutch for the story development.
my fiance wondered if hugh and christian flipped a coin to see who had to play the american...

hmm...usually the sexy vampire stuff is light on the gore (vampyres, daughters of dracular...god tier embrace of the vampire). If you want fun to watch vampire flicks that have some nudity and pretty good special effects and kills then definitely check out Fright Night 1 and 2. The Howling 2 is werewolves but it's got gore and sexuality (in the rhio2k vein).

i watched too many movies this weekend because of easter. everyone i know is reglious and can't go out of the house cause they're at church all day, so i was stuck at home with nothing to do

mission impossible 1/2 (hd) - the visuals didn't even look good, i'm not sure if it was because a bad HD transfer or if its just old. i was surprised cause i liked 3 so much. 2 was the worst, i'm not a big fan of john woo's directing style so maybe thats why i hated 2, but 2 didn't even seem like it was in the mission impossible world. only thing that was the same was the mask gag. tho the sound was pretty nice on the HD DVD

vanishing point - wanted to rewatch this after grindhouse. awesome movie, if you haven't seen it check it out.

the departed - got the HD DVD so i rewatched it, great movie. HD transfer is great.

babel - i got it on blu ray for $5 from some glitch and finally got to watch it. blah. did anyone like this movie? it seemed too much like crash where it's just playing on stereotypes trying to make you feel upset. tho that deaf jap girl was messed up in the head. wish she was a lil hotter tho, but then i guess she woulda got fucked by then even if she was deaf.

I agree that MI:2 was the worst. The trailer was so hot when it came out but then the movie was ass. I havent seen the first one since it was in theaters and dont remember too much about it beyond lots of scooby-doo moments.

I watched Fearless Fighters off showtime. It was alright...I'm just not much of a kung fu fan.

Im not much of a fan of The Devil's Rejects but for the past couple weeks I can't get "Tootie fuckin frootie" out of my head

When Grindhouse came out on Friday I was in such a B-Movie mood so me and a friend went to see what was on the TMC Underground and that nights showing was "A Bucket of Blood"

The basic plot is that Walter is a busboy at a hippie cafe, and pretty much everyone just dismisses him even though he's a big fan of all their work. He decides he wants to be an artist and buys some clay. After trying to get the land ladies cat out of his wall, he accidentally stabs it. Taking inspiration from a poem said by the worlds greatest hippie that had a beard made of steel wool, he decides to cover the dead cat in clay and pass it off as a sculpture, and the hippies love it and the amount of detail, and they want to see a human sculpture. You can guess what he has to do to sculpt a human...

Amazing film for laughs. It has THE GREATEST HIPPIE I've ever seen in a film. Every time he popped up on screen he said something brilliant that just made me laugh. The main character was a delight to watch especially when his terrible deeds messed up his mind, he's just a complete failure in every way and agrees to all the idiocrity that he hears. The whole cast is VERY dumb as it's incredibly obvious what he's doing. The effects are bad, and OH MY GOD, the events leading up to him sculpting that cat are HILARIOUS.

My only compliant would be, it's an old film, and it doesn't live up to the title. There's no blood in the film at any point, just those cheesy deaths. While the deaths are great and provide some good laughs, I'd just like to see a bucket of blood in a movie called "A Bucket of Blood"

If you're in the mood to watch a B-Movie with a friend I really recommend this one, not very violent or shocking but a solid script and a well executed idea really make this one, including the "great" bad acting

three things about the grind house flop disturbs me:

1) lot of good reviewed wide release movies in the past 6 months have done horrible at the box office. zodiac and children of men are the first that come to my mind. even "the lookout" which was well reviewed and had a young cast bombed.

2) this movie could bankrupt dimension/weinstein - which is my favorite studio. everyone said the budget was 50 million, but now they're saying its more like 100 million. it sucks for that company since they split from miramax their only real box office hit was scary movie.

3) this ties in with #1 but we're probably going to get more formulaic, "safe" movies - instead of experimenting due to the poor performance of so many well reviewed movies and crap like "Are We Done Yet?" or even The Reaping (made a lil less than Grindhouse on a much smaller budget) making a lot of money at the box office.

Plus maybe if the movie did good at the box office they coulda shot movies for the fake traliers and threw them on the DVD. I wonder if this will effect the Machete DVD release.

Im thinking this wont be the case. The budget was 50 million, plus probably another 50 mil in P&A which the weinsteins love to spend which is where the 100 mil figure comes from. They are splitting them into two films for the international markets (so two 25 mil films by directors that the international market love) and there is even talk now of releasing them as two films here in the U.S. as well.

I think an optimistic final domestic gross estimate for the double bill is 25 mil. Both Kill Bill and KB 2 took in about 50 million MORE internationally than they did domestically so I think the seperate movies have a strong chance of bringing in the dough, maybe 40 million each.

Add to that the strong dvd sales that are associated with QT and RR and I think TWC comes out just fine in the end.

I find the press coverage of the "flop" to be disturbing and disingenuous in many respects. All the pre-buzz in regard to box office was that no one had a clue how a 3 hr double feature in a genre not many people are familiar with would do. Now people are trying to act like it was supposed to be some blockbuster, when that was never the case.

I agree that a lot of crappy movies have done well this year and a lot of well-reviewed movies have not. We will have to wait and see what the consequences are. Regardless, I don't foresee QT and RR not making movies any time soon

I think they fucked up in marketing. They took the base for granted and instead spent all their time getting it in to all the critics and getting write-ups in the NY Times and those kind of places while ignoring a big internet/video game/comic push. They should have had 15 minutes of Planet Terror available to watch for free online, plus online-only trailers long before the movie opened to go viral and create buzz.

It's just like politics - play. to. the. base. Look what pieces of shit like Saw 3 and TCM: the beginning gross. You dont think those audiences would love Grindhouse that much more?

the thing about wein/dimension is since the break up they really haven't had a hit. the only profitable movie i can think of was Scary Movie 4

they gave clerks 2 to mgm to release, so mgm prolly took some of that money.

i read an itnerview somewhere with harvey where they said they're failing at the box office, but they diversified enough where they're not in trouble financially (strong DVD sales + they co own project runway)

but i mean how many bombs can you release before you're out of money?

about saw, i don't understand it. the first one was alright, didn't think it needed 2 sequels, and now a 3rd is on the way.

thing about those movies too is they're made dirt cheap

1 cost 1.3 million, 2 cost 4 million, 3 cost 10 million

1st made 103 million, second made 147, 3rd made 164 million

just in ticket sales

sick ROI

I'm concluding I just don't like Terry Gilliam films. I hated Brazil, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Tideland and now I just saw 12 Monkeys and didn't like it either. It's not the stories, it's the directing for me. Seems too all over the place and has weird and annoying camera angles and unorthodox shots. I don't care for the pacing either.

I guess I'll never understand his movies like how I don't understand why all NYU film students are obsessed with Cronenberg. Every NYU student I hire for temp work goes on and on about his movies like they're the best thing ever. I just don't get them tho.

The twist to momento is:
- He killed his wife accidently with too much insulin
- He makes up clues to trick himself into pursuing a fake killer

I haven't seen the movie in a while, so forgive me if I'm wrong, but I do remember an interview where they asked, "What motivates you in your life?" as a theme to this movie. Without a purpose (finding his wife's killer), there is nothing else to motivate his life and keep it going. That's all he has left, and if it ends, there's nothing.

Wow, I didn't realize we have a flicks thread.

I agree that Spidey 1 & 2 sucked. The only reason I will see the third is Venom, but I still expect the movie to suck.

Memento is awesome

I watched The Fog of War in my Philosophy of War class. God, it is excellent. And thats coming from a fairly conservative individual.

I also did not enjoy Brazil, I do not comprehend all the accolades it gets. I do however, enjoy 12 Monkeys. Fear and Loathing is also not my syle.

Lock Stock is top notch. Also check out Snatch and L4YER CAKE. Both great, but dont expect to be completely blown away like Lock Stock.

My friends and I skipped all our classes opening day of 300 to go see it in IMAX at 11:00 am. There was in-chair moshing and fist pounding the entire time. I fucking loved it.

I just saw Smokin Aces.............decent movie. Alot of shooting scenes, and alot of actors I know about in this movie, and some I didn't even know were. Good job to Keys and Common.

The ending confused me though........and I woudn't have guessed it.

I know that Heller = Sparazza.........but was Sparazza was really a fictional mob boss made by the feds? Why did the feds want him dead in the first place, onlt to want him alive so badly that they would kill Buddy to save him? Did Carruthers know boforehand? I guess what Messner did at the end was justified........

Alica Keys was smokin hot in that movie..............:ihitit:

Just saw The Hitcher on DVD.
Some creepy moments, but pretty weak overall.
Not bad, not good. Short movie.

what is there to get in an argument about?

well my side of it is, he really does not have that "disease" (losing memory every 15 min), it is something he made up to make it easier to con people, as he is a con artist...the hardest thing to remember is not to forget to remember...he says something along those lines, and it is hinted at in the side story of the old man...

but people dont agree with that, so i always get into this discussion...

haven't seen a good movie in a while :(

usually i don't mind japanese horror remakes but Pulse was sooooo bad. I gave up on it about half way through, but I still watched hoping the hot blonde chick would get naked, but of course she doesn't. Couple bra shots thats it. I think I get more pissed when you have such a great idea and just butcher it completely.

i just bought a bunch of HD DVD's tho so i hope one will be good: Casino, Feast (already saw and liked it), Slither, The Hitcher, and The Fountain (which got to me 1 week before street date for some reason)

watched flags of our fathers and hollywoodland. both were alright. Affleck was really good in Hollywoodland but the Adrian Brody stuff dragged. I went by target and saw they are selling a 2 disc anniversary edition of reservoir dogs for $7.50

i saw hannibal rising...it was as bad as people were saying it was, but it was not good either...i thought the kid who played hannibal was pretty tight...

up next i am going to watch this movie called Shadow of the Vampire with John Malcavich and William Dafoe...it is like a fictional documentary on the making of the movie nosfaratu (the old silent version)...and how the director of this movie actually hired a real vampire for the movie, bahahahaha sounds funny...we will see...

i didn't like volver either. the whole plot was built around the murder and i didn't really think the murder was a big deal.

plus all the male bashing!! us men need to stand up and protect ourself from such hate speech

but seriously, it was too much of a woman's movie for me.

tho i did love Waitress and that's a big woman's movie too

i liked the ending to vacancy, even though it had one cliche, it didn't succomb to a huge one so i guess it's forgivable

Vampire Hunter D is a great movie.

That film completely blew me away when I first saw it at the age of eight. However, as incredible as the original was, the sequel is better.

A lot better.

Focus-

I finally got around to watching House of 1000 Corpses, and I must say, Rob Zombie is an even better director and writer than he is a solo musician.

I am hoping that you arent talking about that Sean Bean pile of shit remake of the Rutger Hauer awesomeness of the 80s. That Hitcher remake was absolute horror blasphemy. Don't even get me started on the Black Christmas remake, or When a Stranger Calls. The Hills Have Eyes remake was suprisingly good, though not so much when you take into consideration that Alexandra Aja, the director of High Tension (you want gore? This has gore), directed the remake of the Wes Craven 70s milestone. It is too bad that Aja had no hand in the new Hills Have Eyes 2, since that was almost as bad as the original Hills Have Eyes 2. I find it insulting that movie trailers don't even bother to point out the fact that all these new movies are remakes. No respect for the actual creative minds that first came up with this stuff. I am not looking forward to the Halloween remake (despite loving Zombie's first 2 directorial efforts) or the soon to be filmed Hellraiser remake (the only thing that has going for it is that it is being directed by Clive Barker, the man behind the original. However, it does beg the question "What the hell is the point?")

Seriously? Death Wish 4 was my absolute favorite of the series. "I wish he would DROP DEAD" is one of the best-placed quotes in an action film ever.

Also, feel free to skip Death Wish 5. It sucked.

Focus

I watched Miike's Imprint yesterday. (The director behind "Audition", "Ichi the Killer", the "Dead Alive" trilogy, "Visitor Q", etc.)

I have to say, the Jap motherfucker really outdid himself here; I'm so jaded by violence that things like the Freddy or Jason series are like cartoons to me, with nothing scray or disturbing about them.

But this film was really fucked up and disturbing. I now have some truly horrific images burned into my brain, possibly forever. Don't watch this unless you have a very high tolerance for this stuff.

Really...I would say that better describes my thoughts on Miike. After you've seen one or two of his, they all become one long cartoon

And Death Wish 4 is petty bad - some nancy reagan say no to drugs bullshit, no dirty street punks, no freaking Browning machine gun from part 3. They switched up directors and it showed. Plus the biggest crime - NO RAPES! How can you have a Death Wish without rape??
