Just finished up participating in Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors convention in Los Angeles. Here's some inside scoop:

Eli Roth:
Someone from the audience jokingly asked if he was going to make 'Thanksgiving' (Grindhouse Faux Trailer) into a movie. He responded seriously that he had spoke with Edgar Wright (shaun of the dead, hot fuzz writer/director) about it. So far nothing is in process, but there is a small possibility that it might go somewhere later. Don't hold your breath for it though. He says Thanksgiving was an idea he had since he was a young teenager. He showed a clip of hostel 2. It didn't show much. Just had Bijou Philips running scared and screaming - teaser. The lighting and production was very nice.

Masters of Horror:
Will have season 3. They don't have a list of the directors involved in the season yet. In the future, they will have popular modern directors like Eli Roth, Neil Marshall (?), etc.

The Descent 2
Neil Marshall (the descent director) had a panel promoting his new movie Domsday. Audience asked about Descent sequel. He says there will be one, but he won't be a part of it. He'll only oversee it to make sure that they "don't fuck it up." (in his own words).

Resident Evil : Extinction
They showed a trailer for it along with a never before seen clip. It has fast zombies. To be honest, I didn't expect much from this movie - thinking it would just be another hollywood mainstream cash flick, but the scenes that they showed were actually quite entertaining. They showed a scene in which zombies attack people with guns, and in summary, the death gags were quite nice. A few nice head shots, some knife sticking in the head, and a big'o hole in the head gag - nice a bloody. The move might not be half bad after all - at least for the effects. The plot will probably be another story. The director's intention was to make a scary movie in the day light (desert); they were tired of using the darkness of the night to create fright.

Uwe Boll : Postal
Boll had a panel about him, but didn't not personally appear. Instead, two of the actors from his new movie postal appeared. It was funny, no one was really asking any questions, so there was a lot of awkward silence. They also were the only panel to have technical difficulties in showing their clips and trailers - almost like they were being set up. It was fun to watch. Even the actors were talking about Boll's movie like they were shit. haha. Apparently Uwe is pronounced "oo - vah" not "u-wee" or "u-weh." Postal is supposed to be a comedy - they showed a clip of two plane hijackers (middle eastern) arguing about how many virgins they will get after crashing the plane into the twin towers. They call up Binladen to confirm the number of virgins. It's supposed to be funny and controversial. The actors on the panel admitted that Boll has a shitty form of German humor (as their experience with him as a director).

The Third Mother
Screenwriter of Dario Argento's new movie had panel discussing the movie and showed a clip. It was intense and horrifying. I can't wait to see it.

Max Brooks (and other Zombies)
writer of the Zombie Survival Guide (book) was there with a panel with other zombie movie production crew members. Discussing new movies and overall zombie topics such as trends, style, and vision. One topic was about each member's view of how zombies came to be. Each had a reason such as virus, infection, etc. George Romero never has and never will explain how his zombies came to be.

Day of the Dead (remake)
Saw a clip of the new movie. It has fast zombies like Dawn of the Dead. I love the original, but I gotta say the clip was pretty weak. Showed some people running through the city, avoiding zombies. Pretty weak. I'm hoping it was just a weak clip (a lot of finger crossing).

Heather Langenkamp:
She played Nancy from the Nightmare on Elm Street series. She's nothing but a washed up whinny little bitch. End of story.

Manhunt 2:
Playstation 2 game made by Rockstar. Plays just like the first one. The representative there didn't let anyone else play. Goddamn hogging the game. And on top of that, she was playing it all wrong. Also available for wii.

That's all I remember for now.
I didn't sit in on the Rob Zombie or Shawnee Smith panels.

Holy shit a movie fanatic thread, why was I not informed?

I'm currently training to be a screenplay writer/director, probably watched over 1000 movies in the last 6 months, written an absolutely obscene amount of material, read 5 books on screenplays, and am about to start deconstructing successful scripts to learn how to apply some lessons first-hand.

So, pretty much every second I'm not at work or school I'm doing something related to movies :o

Or browsing a dumb forum.

Anyway, anyone else trying to break into the industry as well? In it? etc. Stories, gogogo.

i didn't goto film school either, i think its a waste (i got a phd in statistics actually)

film making is an art, you can't teach art. all the technical stuff you can read in a book - don't have to pay tons of money to have someone teach you.

haha Glengary Glenross is awesome. Watching Jack Lemmon whine about the good leads is so convincing. I saw the movie years ago, it really is kind of a hidden gem. My buddy is on top of all that stuff so I just get my recommendations from him. I am ridiculously jealous of the dude that went to the horror convention. That is awesome, sucks about Descent 2, the first one should have been a stand alone horror flick, since its the scariest movie I've seen in years, and I hate the thought of a series tainting the original. That new Dario Argento flick looked real creepy you said? Now THAT is something to get excited about.

I got introduced to J-Horror and Foreign films since going to college. Not to sound Wapanese and all that, but it seems like only the Asian, Europe and other countries are trying anything original lately. Although some would be better if not for a halfassed ending or trying to be stylistic (Tale of Two sisters, for example.)

Some I've seen over the semester I'd recommend.

Pray: A nice twist on Ghost stories. A young couple Kidnap a young girl, but when they call the parents to ransom her, the parents say that their daughter died three years ago on today.

Three Extremes: Three unconnected, short horror stories by three different asian "masters of horror." They're pretty good and live up to the title, especially the first about a Woman using a youth serum made from a gruesome source.

Oldboy: A man gets imprisoned in a hotel room for 15 years against his will, and released one day to try and discover who was responsible. It may be a little predictable at times, but the hammer fight scene and that headfuck of an ending is an experience I recommend to any serious film buff.

Audition: A widower holds a fake audition for a movie to find a new wife. He finds who appears to be the perfect woman, then finds out just how wrong he is. The last scene made me think twice about dating a Japanese woman. EVER.

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance: A young deaf-mute man's failed plot to obtain a kidney for his ailing sister sets in motion a chain of events ending in a series of vengeful murders. (This synopsis from wiki sucks, but I can't explain too much without spoiling it) Another great movie.

Creep: European horror movie about a woman trapped in a Subway station after closing hours, The same subway where there's rumors of some murderous creature stalking the vagrants. It sounds like a SciFi channel movie, but it's better than it appears. And if you're a Gorehound, there's plenty of dismemberment and a 'surgery' scene that should not be missed.

The Maid: Singapore thriller that fans of the Sixth Sense will enjoy. A young woman is hired to work for a chinese family during the Chinese month that celebrates the dead. (I forget the proper name) She is warned not to break certain rules during this time, and pays a terrible price when she does. Ignore the Ring/Ringu vibe you get from the cover, it's actually quite original.

The Proposition: Australian Western about a notorious trio of Brothers. When one is kidnapped, One brother is given a choice. Bring in the remaining brother, or watch the captured brother die. Surprisingly good.

will i understand pirates 3 if i never saw 1 or 2? or do the movies build on each other? same with spiderman and shrek

i did see two movies this weekend

bug: i thought it was good, but it was marketed as a horror movie and its really not. its about mental illness. i saw the play before so i was interested in it, i liked it. its a lil slow in the beginning, but its worth it for the whole last scene. i was surprised ashely judd has such a nice body.

waitress: i liked it, but it seemed to drag on. when it was over i asked my girl what time it was and i was surprised the movie was only about 90 minutes long because it seemed like it was over 2 hours. it was a movie i was "forced" to see as long as she saw bug with me, but yea its a good movie. pretty funny. if your girl claims you never take her to rom com movies then take her to this one, cause i think its enjoyable by both and then you won't have to sit through crap like Must Love Dogs later on. sad to see matlock shaking non stop in it, guess he's on death's door. i wish they woulda developed the husband character more, but its def a woman empowering flick. in fact none of the male chars in the movie were portrayed as good except andy at the end.

yea if you got HD DVD or Blu Ray i'd get it on that

looks really nice

toob ad brad pitt pulled out, i'm not a hugh jackman fan

i think a lot of people smashed the movie because of its pacing

everyone knows in american cinema you need someone dying or something blowing up once every 10 mins

but its one of the movies where you gotta think and might take a couple of viewings to understand and most people don't want that

on a bright note, i found a copy of No Holds Barred on VHS over the weekend at a garage sale

wish this came to DVD :(

i still think the 3rd one will make sense...it is pretty self explanatory as to what is going on in the movie and what they want to do and why...the only reason you would want to see maybe the first 2 is to get the character development that they had going throughout the movies...

I agree the first one was God-tier in itself. Neil Marshall did seem adamant about overseeing it so it doesn't get ruined, but still, it's going to be very tough to top the first one. Neil was a really chill guy. Between my GF and I, he signed a descent poster, the dvd cover, and the dvd jacket. Also got a nice pic with him. :wgrin:

This isn't the clip shown at the con, but here are some clips from the Third Mother:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCV3QmAkUj4

I don't understand this.

Rob Zombie's panel was actually the worst out of the whole 3 day event - from what I hear. He showed & talked about nothing new. Many said he didn't even seem like he wanted to be there. I didn't go 'cause I was dead tired; his panel was towards the evening. And I wanted to save my energy to wait in line for Neil Marshall (the next day). To me, The Descent > Halloween Remake.

Maybe it's just my fascination with serial killers manifesting itself, who knows.

I recommend "Copycat" if you haven't already seen it. Probably my favorite movie regarding serial killers.

Yes, watched the movie, listened to the commentary, and watched the It Is Wonderful To Create doc (different chapters of which are on almost all the criterion dvds). The commentary was very good, different this time in that it is split up in sections between several scholars. Some of the regular names are there (Stephen Prince and Donald Richie) along with some new people. Only the female I didn't particularly care for. The movie looks great though...the print is much better than the previous edition.

Funniest movie of the year. Easily. It's funny and it has heart, Judd Apatow delivers once again. I didn't think much of Katherine Heigl outside of my masturbatory fantasies before, but she is a really talented actress and her chemistry on screen with Seth Rogen works. Hell, even Ryan Seacrest was fantastic in his! Makes a great date movie.

Was Smokin Aces worth seeing, or was it just about watching Alicia and Common look cool with guns? I think the type of Hollywood movie I hate the most is stuff like Oceans' Eleven+ -- empty ensemble cast films that is somehow validated because the coolest actors or recording artists just show up for a role in a movie that ultimately offers nothing..

I saw The Prestige.. I'm using this space to bitch and whine about this movie and Chris Nolan..

There was some terrible acting and line delivery from Jackman and especially Johansen.. the Tom and Jerry-like sabotage game between Angier and Borden felt like filler, and got old quicker than it should have.. and it's hard to get engaged in a movie when you figure out the mystery well before the movie ends. The real (and completely unwelcome) twist in the movie was actually shifting the genre from thriller to sci-fi/magic for no reason.. finally, the attempt to sell Borden's twin brother act did not go well. Twins are not identical and that trick would simply not work on their spouse/partner.

Despite my criticisms, it's the Nolan movie I like the most.. it's the darkest picture he's directed, and Angier developing into a consumed and morbidly evil character was the most entertaining part of the film. And I guess the biggest problems I have with the movie are the fault of the original work, than anything Nolan came up with.

I hate dissecting Nolan movies like this but, his directing strikes me as amateurish at times. From the weak action scenes in Batman Begins to the twin brother thing in Prestige, it feels like he's saying "um I know this sticks out like a sore thumb but can you just be a sport and accept it?"

And when he takes a stab at noir and confusing mysteries, I can't help but think of directors like Lynch or Mamet who handle noir much more naturally. Also, as far as new directors go, I think Bryan Singer (even though he's mostly in the superhero business right now) and Darren Aronofsky would have been better directors for anything Nolan's put out thus far.

Knocked Up/Hot Fuzz- Probably gonna be the best comedies of this year, both excellent

Click- Finally got around to watching it, and wow, it wasn't nearly as bad as you'd expect, it was actually quite good. I'd recommend it.

Bamboozled- Spike Lee, enough said, great movie. A little too metaphoric though.

Didn't they both wear costumes the same costumes to sell it? They're supposed to be great magicians, so why couldn't they sell this "trick" to the wife/my future baby momma scarlett

how can you really consider bryan singer or Darren Aronofsky to be new directors? Pi is almost 10 years old and Singer directed USual Suspects which came out in 1995

and both of those weren't their first movies

10+ years of being in the industry now qualifies you as a new director?

You have to be very careful when putting Darren Aronofsky on anything, because he tends to take whatever is at hand and completely change it in his own way. Good or bad, he's one of those directors, and I don't really see him directing a superhero movie tbh. And no, he's not new at all, he just doesn't do that many movies.

i don't think aronofsky really would work as a big budget director anyway, so I don't see him doing a super hero movie

i'm surprised he even got the fountain made like he did (with 35 million+ budget and very vague and artsy) and released.

his movies are more like artsy/make you think/european type films, which history has shown over and over aren't profitable at the US box office. in the US everyone wants closure on everything (See the Sopranos) except his movies don't really have any. They're more about making you think and will take multiple viewings to really understand.

the more money at risk in a movie the more people you need to answer to and compromise your vision, which sucks, but at the same time its not your money so what can you do.

about movies i finally saw matrix and in HD. looks really nice in 1080p, audio is awesome on my sound setup too.

and then i watched death wish 1-4 all in a row, sad to see how bad the series got by the 4th one

Maybe they could've explained how they sold the trick in the movie instead of expecting us to just shrug it off at face value. There's nothing to explain about the 'new' director comment.

Just thought I'd share some quick comments my friend just gave me. He saw an advanced screening of Rob Zombies Halloween. Sorry if this is vague, I'll call him later fro more details but this is some stuff he told me about the movie.

Michaels mother is a stripper, and his father is a drunk....he said they reminded him of rednecks.

When he is in the asylum he makes several masks while he's there and hangs them all over his walls.

The guards in the asylum encourage and allow him to rape the female patients.

He lusts after his sister.

and worst of all........he talks.

Again, sorry if this is vague, just trying to relay what he told me. As you can see though it doesn't look good, as expected. He said it's like Rob Zombie used the House of 1000 Corpses formula and just used Halloween as the theme.

I don't like it when classics are re-made. Imagine if some low-mid level niche director tried to remake the 1970's Star Wars trilogy... uh, yeah. No thanks.

Halloween is considered a not just a horric classic that essentially started the slasher genre, but is a cinematic classic that has great historical importance. And then Rob Zombie fanboy/wannabe director comes along and tries to modernize it or some shit... Ugh.

True, The Thing (1980's remake) was quite good... but who directed that 1980's film? Uh yeah, John Carpenter. So, chances are that it's going to be good, remake or not.

However, by and large, remakes have been historically a bad decision. Maybe profit-wise, it's a success, but in terms of critical and fanbase support? For every one successful, well-done remake, I can name 3 that sucked bad. And after that horrible remake is made, it's like the original is tainted to me then...

I don't know, imo, leave originals alone, unless the film is sooooooooooo far back in eras that an updated version needs to be made. But the original Halloween came out in the 1970's, that isn't exactly a long time ago. Fuck, if we want to start having low-mid level directors like Rob Zombie direct 1970's classics, we should give him the GodFather, Deliverance, The Deer Hunter, etc...

And Halloween is ancient compared to several other movies that have been remade in the past few years (the hitcher springs to mind). The problem is that the current crop of remakes, for whatever reason, have all seriously blown. Perhaps one of the reasons is that for the most part the current remakes are of films that were already classics or very successful in their own right, while back in the day for the most part remakes were to "take a second crack" at a good concept that had not turned into the best movie or was a "remake" in the sense that both films just used the same source material. Another reason to look at, especially for the remakes in the horror genre, is that no one is trying to do anything that the originals didnt. John Carpenter loved The Thing From Another World, but he didnt want to make that movie. He took the themes, and created something new. Cronenberg took this idea a step further when making his remake of The Fly. Zack Snyder, Alexandre Aja, and the other losers dont seem to get this, they seem too wrapped up in their fanboy adoration to give us something different. It is ironic that perhaps it will be Rob Zombie after all who gives us the freshest take on a remake so far.

Rob Zombie has a very small body of directorial work to his credit. I think he should focus on perfecting his craft, with original bodies of work, rather than trying to remake possibly the most influential horror film of the modern era (the 70's-present). Just my $.02.

I always loved Carpenter's Halloween(1978) probably my favorite horror movie of all-time with Psycho(1960) coming in a very close second.

Anyway, those scenes that you guys have talked about, those who have seen advanced screening of Zombie's Halloween(2007), the movie dont have me that excited, sounds like Zombie is going for a more disturbing kind of movie like House of a 1000 Corpses which i thought was decent atleast, but was expecting more out of Devil's Rejects. I'll still see it opening night though, i know right now its not gonna have anything of the original.

Ratatouille and Live Free or Die Hard both kicked ass. I don't remember the original Die Hards well enough to know whether or not it follows, but it was a great action flick.

Ratatouille stuck me as one of Pixars best movies, it was the first movie I've seen this year where I didn't realize until the credits that I was watching a movie (No checking my phone for time, etc). Very enjoyable.

LFoDH was just... nonstop action, that kicked all kinds of ass. Good one-liners, typical action movie, but good.

"Little asian chick, likes to kick people?"

Heh.

Mr. Brooks bored the fuck out of me. Which is amazing, because I'm obsessively interested in serial killers. It's pretty hard to bore me with the subject. Something was just... off.

Has anyone seen 'Surfs Up?' It looks... retarded.... I mean another penguin movie.... but it's getting good reviews so I'm conflicted.

Well, coming from you, I guess that means it actually is decent. Also isn't there supposed to be a Metal Gear movie in the works ? Anyone hear about that ? Maybe it was scrapped.

Sicko completely blindsides you emotionally with bullshit, be prepared.

A few examples-

He implies throughout the entire film that if you go into an American ER and are hurt, they'll charge you before helping you, that's simply bullshit. I've had to go to the ER quite a few times and I've never seen a credit card machine before I got treated. Maybe it happened in a few extreme cases, but that certainly doesn't imply it happens to everyone.

He talks about how great Frances government is, well after he produced this film they overthrew their government in favor of a more conservative government.

Countless cases of citing the worst possible thing he could find, and acting like it's the norm (Like visiting MLK hospital in LA, it's since been condemned).

About 6 years ago I went to the hospital with stomach pains at around 1am. Sat in the waiting room for 5 hours while they called my insurance company and tried to haggle over what treatment I could receive (they had trouble reaching someone cause of how late it was and it's a smaller insurance company). Now this was before I even got x-rays or seen by a doctor. In the waiting room my appendix ruptured sending poisons into my bloodstream nearly killing me. I had to be hospitalized for almost 2 weeks and it cost almost a million dollars to the insurance when it was all said and done (and my premiums quadrupled next year).

The waiting room wasn't busy at all, the only thing keeping the doctor from seeing me was they wanted to make sure I could afford it before they did anything (even though I could afford it, I came in alone at the age of 19 with no parents or guardians within 7000 miles so they just assumed young kid = no money) and as a result I could of died.

The funniest thing was I felt sharp pains in my stomach that were so much worse than I ever had and it was more consistant pain and I tried to tell them something happened and something was wrong and they told me just to sit down and they will get to me soon. Next thing I know I'm waking up in a room 2 days later. Apparently I passed out and caused a big scene in the ER, too bad I missed it haha.

So that's one more case where they wouldn't see someone until I showed them the money.

I mean Moore might sensationalize a lot, but the point he's trying to make still holds true. Health care in the US should be non profit and not run by big businesses because most businesses don't care about people, they just care about profit.

Yes, we definitely must have seen different films. They put emphasis on the guy that had his fingertips chopped off having to pay several points later in the movie in addition to his interview of a few minutes, when they go to other governments health care systems he puts emphasis on how easy they get care. I'm really, really surprised that you don't recognize these tactics, either you're immune to them or you're completely blindsided. This was a running theme of the film. If you push the issue I'll re-watch it and take notes.

You didn't catch a 'The French are awesome, America sucks' vibe from that movie? Are you fucking serious? I mean... he goes and interviews a bunch of Americans in France that say EXACTLY that for at least 10 minutes. You definitely didn't see the same film I did.

I heard it was condemned to be shut down. And you have dodged my point completely- He presents this in a manner as to say 'This is what Hospitals are like in America,' not 'Here's an example of one of the worst Hospitals in the world, which happens to be located in America.' If you don't immediately recognize the difference in his implication and the truth, wow.

My problem with Moore isn't his point, health care in America does suck. Drug prices are fucking insane, and people that work shitty jobs (Me) can't afford health care. If my parents didn't have my back I'd pretty much be fucked if I ever got seriously hurt. But that doesn't justify Moore's emotional terrorism. His methods are downright terrible, and he comes so close to lying without directly lying you probably couldn't express it mathematically.

His methods are downright terrible, and he comes so close to lying without directly lying you probably couldn't express it mathematically.

just curious where do you work? and are you saying you do not get benefits there???

my godmothers brother whos a professor at hardvard practially invented how the health care system works in the U.S. (in terms of who pays what, etc etc), right now he is doing research in 3rd world countries on what type of health is the most efficient to use with their..."budget" for health care...shit is pretty interesting...currently what he is finding is "walking" doctors work the best...where they come to you when you need help...so all the money is put in a central medicinal building for these walking physicians to use...

anyway i will try to talk to him to see what his view point is...

ps...i thought the movie was ass...i dont understand how people think picking OUT of the norm circumstances and passing it as this is the majority good film making...i have friends in canada who say their health care system is not good...so what does that mean? that this represents 100% the majority of what people say??? get the fuck outta here with that shit...

Gorath have you seen 'Cinemania?'

That movie was kind of disturbing to me. On one hand, it makes me half-ashamed of my hobby, but on the other hand it almost seems like the film-makers are condemning these people instead of studying them, or looking beyond them. It's 'hey, look at these guys with no life' for an hour and a half.

Also, finally saw Annie Hall, how do I miss movies like that.

did anyone see Captivity? I want to see it, but I read they cut a lot out to get a R rating including reshooting the entire ending. Might want to wait for the DVD for that.

I saw Rescue Dawn recently, great movie. Christian Bale I think is the most consistant actor out there. I can't really think of a bad role he's done besides Shaft.

Also saw Joshua. I dunno no one can get the creepy little kid vibe down anymore like they could in the 70s. It's not even that hard since kids are creepy in general, but it looks like they try too hard and ruin it like in The Omen remake.

Just saw "Captivity" (by After Dark Films)

Wow, what a boring movie. It's slightly better than their "8 Films to Die For," but not really by much. ADF keeps on marketing their films as the "most controversial of all time" or "too violent for theaters" etc, but they always end up being so lame.

Captivity's about a female model who gets kidnapped. The kidnapper locks her in a room, and frequently drugs her and puts her through a series of physical and psychological torture. It's not as exciting as it sounds really. I almost fell asleep during the movie. The only thing that kept me awake was me paying attention to all the people walking out on the movie.

It's not a matter of length, it's a matter of how compact content is. You can have a 20 minute short film with only 10 minutes of material, that would be 'too long.' A film like pulp fiction or lord of the rings can get away with 2.5-3 hours because of the immense amount of content present, but movies 1.5-2.5 hours commonly are 'too long' in my eyes.

It just means the content is decent but they stretched it out too long and should have tried to shorten it a bit, or add more content.

I thought last king of scotland was early 2006, oh well.

i had no problem with the last king of scottlands length either...both movies utilized the time effectively if you ask me...

You sure have an issue with that don't you, heh.

Saw Hot Rod with no expectations, it was alright. Kind of charming in a napolean dynamite kind of way, although some (about half) of the jokes just don't work.

Walked into Underdog, could only stand 5 minutes of it. Something I found odd was that they told Jason Lee to do the voice EXACTLY like he does in My Name Is Earl, same voice, speech patterns and everything (If you've seen Lee's other stuff it's very distinguishable, Kevin Smiths flicks for example he sounds completely different). I'm guessing they hired him specifically to do that voice exactly the same, although who knows why they'd want him to.

Also caught No Reservations, decent romantic comedy. None of the movies I'd watch again, kind of a dud week.

Bourne Ultimatum was good but I couldn't take the ridiculous shakycam.

right at your door - grabbed the import dvd for real cheap. very cliche. the surprise "twist" it actually what I thought was going to happen so who knows. looks like it was shot very cheap which is cool if you wanna make a movie. you could film this movie for like a couple thousand if you got the equipment already, even if you have to rent it shouldn't cost that much

slither - finally saw this. really enjoyed it, if you like b movies check it out. you might have to use subtitles though because i don't understand southern slang

king of kong - awesome movie, try to see this

Need some help. My friend told me that he saw a trailer on TV, forgot which channel, but he said it had 3 giant monsters in it. At first I thought he meant Dragon Wars and he said that wasn't it. Then I thought that maybe 1-18-08 had a new trailer possibly confirming the 3 monster theory, but I can't find anything online about that. So any idea what trailer he might have seen?

it was a commercial, not a movie trailer...don't remember which product it was for

Just saw "Disturbia" and "Fracture" this weekend. Disturbia was okay, except the first half was like watching an entirely different movie than the second half. The pacing/difference between the first and second halves is just jarring. But... I like Shia enough so I overlooked it. Overall, entertaining teen movie.

Fracture was pretty nice, except it as far too formulaic. I like Anthony Hopkins and his acting in this movie was a pleasure to watch. Gosling played his cocky/arrogant DA role to perfection. Gum-chewing, cell-phone vibrating, hand gestures... all great stuff that added to his performance.

Flashpoint - fucken trash.

Hatchet - good for a laugh, don't let the former nc-17 rating fool you. They make it sound like bitches are getting raped and killed at the same time, they're not.

Bloodrayne II - don't ask. I didn't start it yet but I'm not too excited about wasting my time either.

- ...you're kidding. I didn't see it yet. Is it better than Killzone?

- ...you're kidding.

If I enjoyed a shitty recycled story with terrible flow and guys 100 hand slapping one another...

I should be watching Diary of the Dead right now if it wasn't for work.

Saw 3:10 to Yuma. Didn't know it was a remake.
It was ok.

Why did Ben Wade get all soft towards the end? Because of sympathy? I thought he "wouldn't last 5 minutes" if he wasn't completely "rotten." Seems too drastic of a change. I mean, Ben was so broken in this movie, he could've easily fucked everyone up if he wanted to.

P. Gorath

he wasnt soft. Bale's character wasnt doing anything noble, he just wanted to be a hero for once. The movie showed how Ben Wade either finds people interesting or he doesnt, and he found Bale very interesting. Wade knows he can escape later on down the line and enjoyed doing what he did for Bale out of personal satisfaction, not because he softened

I just saw the "King of Kong." What a hilarious and good feeling movie...

That movie has so many quotables... the best one is what Walter Day said:

Walter: "I want the pretty girls to come up to me and say, "Hey I heard you were good at centipede..."

Anyone into competitive gaming has to watch this documentary... its Pre-Evolution per say.

Came across this on this internet TV site:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085764/

The movie seems to be taken down again, so I haven't seen it yet. Sounds like a fun movie.

shoot 'em up was awesome. Eastern Promises, I will probably not be seeing for at least another week as it is only in 1 theatre in the Washington, DC area.

Recently saw Shooter. I read a bunch of negative reviews, so my expectations were quite low... but I loved it. Maybe because I like the whole sharpshooter thing, but I really enjoyed this film. Entertaining, easy to follow, good mix of action/shooting with conspiracy. I liked it.

I didn't like it that much, it was entertaining to watch all the shooting/scoping, but the story line was WEAK, tad bit corny too:wink:, to much predictable stuff.

How is shoot em up? I'm going to see it in 2 hours....

Ah I see, that makes more sense now. thanks for the info.

-----------

I thought Shoot 'em Up was an awesome movie. I heard it didn't do so well in sales, but the previews I've seen still caught my interest. It's a great 'popcorn' movie.

Saw King of Kong this weekend. By far one of the best movies of this year. It's interesting , funny and overall just a really good movie. I can't recommend it enough.

i saw eastern promises on sat

viggo really carries the entire movie

don't really think it was as good as A History of violence, but i still enjoyed it

my only complaint deals with the ending, it was pretty bad.

i thought it could be longer and maybe add more to th eending because thats my only problem with it, but a bad ending can ruin an entire movie for most people

didnt get out to the theater over the weekend...stayed in and watched netflix instead

My Bodyguard - different than I what I expected, pretty good
Murphy's Law - has some great one-liners, not a bad buddy cop/crook drama

Hatchet - this movie is so bloody awful. How there is ANY buzz on this thing is beyond me. This is like a 10th rate Eli Roth movie, and that is being kind. I would even rank this lower than 2001 Maniacs. What a POS all around

My Bodyguard was pretty good from the parts I saw. Never watched the entire thing.

Finally finished Freeway (Reese Witherspoon)...after 10 years...

that sucks

i'm so convinced now that hype in horror movies = horrible movie every time

the only horror movies i really enjoyed past couple years were: Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (no press, limited theater run), 1408, Feast, and All The Boys Love Mandy Lane
