I suppose for now I'm just going to say that now her name, "Aeon Flux", makes sense, especially since I don't think it was mentioned at all in the cartoons.

Speaking of the cartoons, I would greatly appreciate the opinion of some that have seen the cartoons and then the movie. I need to how much I missed that was alluded, since I only vaguely remember Handler, and even then that's rather iffy; I've only seen a few cartoons, randomly and a long time ago (when they were actually on MTV, so when I was much younger).

I got dragged to the theaters by one of my friends, and to my surprise it wasn't as bad as I expected.

This is way better than the original cartoon IMO. I personally consider Aeon Flux and Peter Chung's artwork in general visual vomit. So although I thought the movie pretty much ditched psychological drama of the original and stuck to action, I didn't really mind.

So yea, you could pretty much tell that I hate Peter Chung.

I previewed this film on thursday at work (i'm a projectionist) and I didn't think it was very good. I was getting paid to watch a movie and I was GLAD it was short.

But this week we get Narnia and next week is Kong! booyah!

I have a good feeling Kong is going to bomb horribly. I heard from cnn that the movie is over 3 hours long....that in itself already puts me off. I loved that 3rd Lord of the Rings movie, and even there, I kept wondering after awhile..does this movie go on...forever? It's not a good thing when even though a movie is good overall...you begin checking your watch or cell.phone for the time...wondering when the hell is this going to end. Besides, the concept of King Kong just never seemed that interesting to me. The big deal was when he climbed the skyscraper and swatted helicopters away like flies...that was pretty much it.

*sidenote--my sweetie, Soledad O'Brien(hottest newsanchor ever) agrees with me. She was also immediately put off by it being over 3 hours.(*eh, perhaps it won't bomb "horribly", but I doubt it will do well if most people realize they're going to be sitting in the theatre for over 3 hours)

Dark Charlize's AF outfits should be skimpier though. The original character was practically naked in every episode.

I didn't have a lot of hope for Aeon considering it wasn't previewed to the critics, which usually means they don't want reviews out before the movie, which usually means the movie SUCKS.

I haven't seen the movie yet, I was supposed to see it Friday but my friend flaked on me(he always flakes on me when it comes to seeing movies). Few things though -

Couldn't the actor who played Trevor Goodchild of dyed his hair blonde? What's the big freaking deal just dye your hair or put on a wig yeash...

I liked the cartoon better before it had dialogue when it was on Liquid Television. There was also a lot more violence and sex before they started talking too.

Didn't make sense without dialog, doesn't make sense with dialog, the Herotus File book doesn't make a lot of sense... so the movie makes sense I gather from the previews and what people are saying? That's one of the reasons I feel Aeon Flux shouldn't be made into a movie in the first place. Well, not a Hollywood one that makes sense anyway, it's just wrong. Now if they made the film weird like "I Heart Huccabees" or "Being John Malkovich" or "Adaptation" or even the recent "Stay" or "Run Lola Run" or heck, the Japanese "Dead or Alive" movie trilogy or something like that that was just plain bizarre and made you think they might have something with an Aeon Flux movie but in the minds of Hollywood exectuives "OH NOOS TEH PEEPLE HOO WAANT TWO SAE CHARLIZE THERON KEEL PEOPLE DOONT WAANT TWO UZE TEREH BRANES OH NOOOS..."

But I haven't seen this movie myself, thinking outloud I guess... I'll see it tomorrow or Tuesday if my friend doesn't flake out on me again.

I went to it thinking it would be complete shit like the rest and was pleasently surprised. I didn't think it would be that good and while some moments were crap there were a few bright spots.

I think a lot critics might be upset because the studio didn't allow for review screenings of the film, but if they did I think it would have been a sort of Thumbs up and Thumbs down reaction across the board.

You can tell they did a bit of editing to make him as big as he is, but they did a good job with it. As a teen I spend two years in India. One of my most profound memories was when there was a group of German teenagers causing trouble in a temple, where I was as well. The police booked me, and claimed I was the instigator of the trouble. I was mad upset about this, since I went to the temple to do a traditional offering. India is fucking amazing as a country, there are things there that you will not ever see anywhere else, and I feel blessed for the experience. The attitude of the people can be spiteful, and takes a lot of India's charm away.

As a teen I spend two years in India. One of my most profound memories was when there was a group of German teenagers causing trouble in a temple, where I was as well. The police booked me, and claimed I was the instigator of the trouble. I was mad upset about this, since I went to the temple to do a traditional offering. India is fucking amazing as a country, there are things there that you will not ever see anywhere else, and I feel blessed for the experience. The attitude of the people can be spiteful, and takes a lot of India's charm away.

Since they merged all of the threads this is left over from the Aeon Flux thread, I guess. Finally saw the movie, I liked it, it's not the best as far as an interpretation of the series but a lot of the things in the series are quite bizarre, not sure everything would work in a film. It was asked what where the differences between the cartoon and the film. Suffice to say everything below this point will be spoilers...

AEON FLUX SPOILERS!


In the cartoon and the movie it held true that Trevor Goodchild and Aeon Flux where lovers at least at one point in time. In the cartoon their relationship was kind of, messed up. Trevor would try to do something to either gain more power or satisfy his sick and twisted urges of the week, Aeon would come in and mess it up. At certain points the two had oppurtunities to kill each other but didn't, yet sometimes trying to murder the other person was attempted. That's the relationship in a nutshell. Wasn't really like that in the movie. Aeon tryed to kill him, found out she couldn't because of their shared past and the two wound up together again as lovers.

Both of the characters in the movie were.... um, nicer. Animated Aeon Flux was, well, not really a good person, she just did whatever she wanted in the cartoon, most of the time she was a straight up bitch. Trevor Goodchild was portrayed as a good guy in the movie with his movie-only brother Orin Goodchild being the villain. Trevor in the cartoon was never good. Only on the occasions where he neglected to kill Aeon, and thats about it.

In the cartoon there where two seperate cities that where split at one point like The Berlin Wall. The people where Trevor Goodchild was from with the Breens was kind of like for the Haves, the side where the Monicans where from was for the Have Nots. It was difficult to cross the border and get to Trevor Goodchild's side, you had to evade a series of traps and a failed attempt could mean your death or the loss of limbs. Animated Aeon would cross the boarder regularly because she had mad skills of course. The entire movie took place on the Breen side, there was no other city. On the other side of the wall was nature, forest, and I imagine the rest of the world. But in the movie there was a series of traps for you to get into Trevor Goodchild's main building, kind of like the traps that seperated the two cities in the cartoon.

There was a revolutionary movement from the Monicans in the cartoon too, however for the most part Aeon Flux did whatever the hell she wanted to instead of taking orders like the flick.

In both, Aeon Flux was cloned, many times. In the movie cloning meant you died, they implanted your DNA into a woman who became pregnant and you were born again. In the cartoon she was pretty much just cloned, like making an exact copy of herself. Of course in some scenarios it might work out the movie way, with Trevor cloning himself(reverting to baby, growing up again) various times for an extended period like he did in the movie and the two meeting each other agian and again and again for hundreds of years but there was a specific episode in the cartoon where she cloned herself, the original died and the clone went on and the series continued. So clones in Aeon Flux land are really good copies.

The cartoon really had bizarre creatures, and/or Aliens with very weird gifts. Movie really didn't have anything like that.

Um, and, in the last episode some kid with bizarre powers create a world for Aeon Flux where she was his Soccer Mom... so she sort of got a happy ending? In the movie she got to be with a good Trevor Goodchild, so she got a much happier ending....

There where a couple of times in the cartoon (the first silent one was a biggy) where it seemed Aeon had a foot fetish, or enjoyed having her.... feet licked... or liking feet... closest the movie got to something like this was when Aeon's friend who had her feet swapped for hands asked if Aeon wanted to do the same thing and she just said she liked her boots.

Most of the above is dealing with the cartoons that have dialog. The ones without dialog make no freaking sense whatsoever. Not that the ones with dialog made perfect sense either. Again, in the first Aeon Flux cartoon, the silent one, when Aeon died she awoke on some strange river raft with some guy licking her feet (course she just stepped on a nail and fell off of a building) and was.. getting off from it, nothing about clones here, she died in all of the silent ones two but kept coming back(assuming the silent ones where even related to each other and not all stand alone entries....) I still like the silent ones better than the episodes with dialog and the movie, the silent ones had way more violence and sex than both. But all in all the three of them are good IMHO, Aeon Flux is a pretty good franchise I think all around.

I still have the Aeon Flux Herodotus File, guess I'll give that book a read again since it reveals lots of stuff not stated in the cartoon, but in the very strange Aeon Flux style...

I don't know about an entire movie forum(this ain't Gaia, where breakfast cereal has its own forum), but perhaps just entertainment in general like tv/movies/music. Individual shows/whatnot threads are so numerous they probably give the mods a headache cleaning up after all of them.

I finally saw the Boondock Saints yesterday night, as well as watching Kiss Kiss BANG BANG.

Saints was cool, a pretty entertaining flick. They should do a sequel where they go to New York, that would be crazy.

i revived this thread because i felt what i wanted to do did not belong in the more active dvd thread. so, i've decided to compile a list of my top 100 films, based on films i've seen thus far in my life. this will not be anything more than my opinion of what i feel are the best films. i'm not trying to spark debate, though i'm sure i'll get a whole string of people on here saying 'that movie sucks' or 'you know whats so much better?' or 'you don't know shit about movies' - however, i thought it would be a great test of my ability to enact such a daunting task. i plan on giving short reasonings for each film. anyways, anyone else think they are up to the task? calling out the movie snobs and know it alls...

seriously, most of the othe characters have good casting, to excellent casting, to perfection...

but magneto??? it really irks me cause mag is one of my fav villians of all time and they make him out to be some old dude who needs a walking cane, fucking dumb...and the age thing, from the comics i get the impression that hes in his early 50s? in the movie he LOOKS like he is 70...MUCH MUCH older looking than xavier, and they are supposed to be around the same age...

ok, so here's my formula for breaking down my list. i have an actual equation for it. i'm making a database of all the potential movies, basically anything i rate 3-5 stars on netflix. each movie will have 3 different ratings. these ratings will be of varying values based on importance and their sum total will place the movie in the list. the three criteria are quality(1-5), importance(1-4), enjoyment(1-5) and my personnal rating(1-10). quality is the overall quality of the film from a movie snob pov, like cinematography, directing, editing, deepness of story, etc. importance is the film's overall importance to the whole of cinema. enjoyment is how much excitement/horor/etc i got from the film. personnal rating is how i feel about the film. so here's an example:

importance: 1
enjoyment: 5
personnal rating: 8

so it has an overall rating of 16 out of a possible 24(66%). i don't think any movie will score a perfect 24, so the burbs will make my list. after all is said and done, i still make the final desicion on placement in the list regardless of final score. this will all just be a way to help me make an initial placement of movies. once i have my database full of the scores, they will be ordered in a report by final score, then personnal rating, then enjoyment, quality then importance and finally if there is still movies tied, by title. its a long proccess and very anal, but it will help me decide in the future what movies to add to the list. plus, i'm an anal geek when it comes to this stuff.
