View Full Version : Do you like the super system in 03?

After playing XI I like it less and less...

Which do you like better?

03 = 3 supers at start, cancels take 2
XI = 0 at start, cancels dont cost extra, pretty damn fast build

Xi is more of a "MvC2 fighter" than an Fatal Fury or Sam Show so this new system works great. I can't really see too much fault in the 03 version, but XI just does it better...or does it work worse? Whatcho think?

Haven't played XI yet. Are you saying you can super-cancel for free? Sounds shitty.

A super at any time costs 1 bar, yes.

I've never played KOF XI.

Starting the round w/ 3 levels is KOF2003 lame, though.
Well, on second thought, starting w/ 3 levels is good because noobs will always waste their meter at the first moment possible.

Uh, the sooner you "waste" them the sooner you get more to blow.

I've found that's WHY it's no good.

hmm...I agree.
although I havent played XI yet the system in kof03 kind of sucked ass.
ldms sounded like a good idea but turned out to be a disappointment...

I mean, you can cancel a special into a super and it's only one bar?

I'm not big on LDM's either. I don't mind the fact that only one character can use it. I think they're overpowered in general. A lot of matches come down to who get's their LDM off.
I've seen plenty of guys who've mastered some memorized bullshit that insures their LDM, but they completely suck otherwise. Yet they constantly win just because they land one or two LDM's each match.
It's almost as if someone programs a combo into their controller mapped to one button. And all they do is press that same button. I'm not saying anyone's doing that. But that's what it feels like to fight some of these clowns.

Fighting games should be about skill. Not who can memorize a (as in one, single) combo.

edit: Sorry to go offtopic. I love 2003. But I think this is it's biggest flaw.

Actually that's exactly how I feel, Bean. That's everyone I play that isn't from here, basically. Same shit over and over that, for some reason, works everytime.

And the tiers, I guess. I mean, if only one Ash is picked, the team with Ash is the winning team 90% of the time if the guy doesn't suck. That's wack.

A super cancel costs one bar and one skill stock. Dream cancels are two bars and one skill stock.

That means nothing to someone who hasn't played it, I would think.

True, but I take it that there is Some sort of penalty for super cancels. So that's good. I'm not sure how balanced it is but it's nice to know you can't super cancel all day for free.

you have 2 meters in XI. a skill meter and as uper meter. the skill meter fills up slowly over time and is used for things like super cancels, team attack tags, etc. so if you wants to do somthing like (and this is an 03 reference) command grab with iori, team switch to gato, standing C, qcf C, qcf X2 C super, it would cost 2 skill points and 1super meters instead of 4 super meters (for those who arent counting, thats a team attack switch, super, and super cancel, 3 super bars to do in 03.)
