Hahaha, Jack went Grand Theft Auto (the whole second episode had a video game vibe, first he metal geared out of the building, grand theft auto'd that car, and now he's gotta solve that mystery like that um, mystery game), Edgar is a fat pussy, Chloe is still annoying as hell, and Jack has another Teenage punk messing everything up.

I like how every 24 has had those archtypes. Bad ass CTU take no shit guy, nerd ass computer geek who is all nervous, and Teenage fuckup.

The best new move was Jack's new 1 frame UOH, on that one guard after the ryu 2 hit short dash fierce punch, jab, UOH combo.

The russians are top tier villains, they are so damn organized. Jack Bauer is gonna have to be SUPER ULTRA crazy to win. Tomorrow it's Jack Bauer, squad leader, and black tony is gonna hit the scene and punch something. WOOOO !

First thing on my TV was Chloe saying Triple P got assisinated, motherfuckers. But Michelle DEAD as well? Shit they just said her and Tony got attacked so I hope that leaves room for surprise returns.

I agree with Baron Samedi, the kid is looking to become the new Kim/Behroz of the season. Although I am surprised he had so much balls and psycho awareness that he recognized the danger and ran towards it to help Jack. He has potential.

I wonder when Robocop appears.

Tony's still OK right? I missed a few bits of both episodes thanks to my TV's sound being a pile of ass. As long as he isn't pronounced dead I'm sure he'll be up and running within 3-5 episodes thanks to his Super Neck (and Back) Armor. Those fuckers better not have written him out like they did Triple P and Michelle. Time to watch the music video to Incomplete as I weep :sad: .

The start of the season was truly shocking. Its been a long time since the deaths of any characters got a rise out of me, but the deathes at the first half of the show did.

Bauer using the smokebomb to confuse his enemies's button config and then parrying that one cat into Yamazaki super was too good people. The hotel escape was crazy.

I'm not going to lie. When I woke up this morning in was in a total emo mood. 2 of my favorite characters dead..... I keep hoping that some supernatural shit will happen, and they will be brought back to life by some Phoenix Down or something.

For the first episode I was in total denial thinking that they were not really confirmed dead yet......However the second episode pretty much confirmed it for me.

Heh, what's with the reliance of torrents and such for watching 24? I would think true 24 fans would prepare for such things and have either TiVO or their DVD or VHS recorder's timers set to record it in the event they can't catch it at home. I know for DAMN sure when I find out on a 24 night when I can't be there, I have the recorder set to record immediately.

Season 5 doesnt start showing in the UK for at least 2-3 months, and even then only if you have satellite.

Thanks to the internet I had Ep1 downloaded and ready to watch just a few hours after it finished broadcasting...now thats pretty damn impressive.

ok, i'm late to the game on 24, i just started watching the show at the end of last year when i pick up season 1-3. i now understand the jack love on this sight. unfortunately i missed episodes one and two for season 5, but i got filled in on everything. a couple of things, sorry if they have been mentioned -

1.) at the VERY LEAST, why did'nt the first lady shove that paper into the presidents jacket?
2.) its probably been mentioned, maybe even in season 4(which i've only seen a small amount of) did they just completely ditch kim? i mean, she was annoying as fuck, but did they resolve it at least for continuity in the storyline?

2) Elisa Cuthbert didn't rejoin for S4. She ended up with Chase and one could imagine that she did it in order to take care of him. You'll find out later what that means.

It just means that MacBauer has graced us with a cameo in the disguise of another childhood hero known as Robocop.

And if it turns out Robocop is a heel, then his appearance was all a clever test by MacBauer to the Psycho One in which Bauer destroying the "fake" would mean he truly is son of MacBauer.

Can we consider people that spread the message of "24" priests? I have spoke the great gospel of "24" to many of my friends and converted a few. The others refuse to be helped and live in eternal damnation. Sooner or later, they will recognize the grace of Saint Jack Bauer and all of the miracles he has performed.

The 12th Century had Saint Francis of Assisi, the 13th Century had Saint Thomas Aquinas, and the 21st Century had Saint Jack Bauer of CTU LA.

Anyone disappointed with how Season 4 is playing out?

I was expecting Jack to be working outside CTU for pretty much the entire season, 4 eps in and already it's looking like a repeat of previous seasons.

Don't get me wrong I love 24 but every season is basically the same...for example - yet another mole..

Look at it like this, he is only going in to explain things, no telling what will happen in the next four episodes. It isn't like they could just have him not in someway contact the people that believed him to be dead for 18 months, wait for the bittersweet reunion with the folk at CTU before they start up another round of Jack stomping the shit out of people.

Besides there really isn't a way to COMPLETELY break ties between CTU and Jack anyway. The dude basically ran the joint before the series started and in each of the 24 seasons has been the deciding factor in whether or not the terrorist win.

CTU goes with 24 like spaceships go with any Star Trek series. Although in S1 and S3 Jack spent most or at least half of his time working alone (more solo time in S1) without CTU help, so check one of those or the end of S2.

24 isn’t reality TV, but it’s good TV.

It's that time of year again, when heavily bankrolled terrorists rev up their engines of mayhem only to be thwarted by the one-man solution to the war on terror known as Jack Bauer (played by Keifer Sutherland). This week, Fox kicked off the fifth season of the hit series 24, which will once again chronicle a single day of explosions, car chases, and relational entanglements as the fictional Counter-Terrorist Unit (CTU), fronted by Bauer, takes on yet another America-hating villain with a diabolical plot and a gaudy foreign accent.

The show is famously built around the gimmick of real-time storytelling: Each episode covers one hour, and each season makes up yet another action-packed day of terror-thwarting escapades. This season started with a two-night, four-episode bang, and, like preceding seasons, it promises gobs of the show’s trademark blend of deliciously silly spectacle and wire-tight suspense. Already, there are familiar elements in play: mentally unstable family members, angst-ridden teenagers, double agents, power struggles, interpersonal friction, and, most important, the unstoppable antics of Jack Bauer. Over the top and brazenly implausible, the show traffics in violence, deception, and mechanized geek spy fantasies — it’s a bloodthirsty soap opera disguised as a technothriller.

Kiefer Sutherland plays Bauer, CTU’s toughest counterterrorist hombre, as an Americanized, cowboy version of James Bond: more brutal, more determined, more prone to extreme measures. Bauer is the sort of guy who, even after more than a year in hiding, still answers an innocuous knock on the door with a Glock held behind his back. Supervisors, bureaucracy, and regulations are merely obstacles to be bulldozed. He doesn’t just ignore the rulebook; he shreds it, incinerates the scraps, and blows up the building the incinerator is in on the way out.

But his relentlessness is perhaps appropriate for an existence so fraught with high-stakes perils. In the first two hours of this season alone, Bauer hijacked a helicopter, stole a car, kidnapped the son of his pretty landlady, knocked unconscious and impersonated an FBI agent, won a gun battle with a squad of terrorist henchmen, was framed for murder, killed a presidential assassin, and somehow managed to evade 167 federal agents while escaping from the top floor of a Los Angeles apartment building. And you thought your job was stressful.

Other seasons have seen Bauer hold up convenience stores, become addicted to heroin, and even execute his boss (it’s complicated). In season two, he was actually tortured to the point of being declared clinically dead — and yet despite all this, he never fails to charge out swinging (and shooting, and running, and swearing). He lives a lifestyle that would give an adrenalin junkie pause.

Through it all, he remains fanatically devoted to protecting his country. For as much as Bauer despises the stranglehold of bureaucracy, he dedicates himself to the safety of America — even to the point of total self-sacrifice. The last season ended with Bauer faking his death and leaving his entire life behind in response to an earlier decision to engage in an off-the-books operation. Jack’s behavior may be brash, but he also displays a willingness to take responsibility for his actions, which gives the show a moral center.

But despite Jack’s headstrong inklings, he is not alone. He is backed by CTU, a nebulous federal agency based in Los Angeles that serves as a hub for U.S. counter-terrorist operations. The CTU headquarters is a marvel of glitzy Hollywood set design. At first glance, it looks like a techno-spy themed nightclub, lit in sultry blue neon and glowing with fancy plasma-screen arrays. The employees are mostly young, attractive, well-dressed urbanites who strut through the building’s halls spitting out technical sounding gobbledygook, while occasionally making time to discuss their numerous intra-agency flings. In 24, intelligence gathering is chic, sexy, and remarkably paperwork free.

But don’t say the job of a CTU agent is easy — the technical details alone are mind boggling. Tongue twisting computer jargon is the show’s official language, even to the point that Sean Astin, making an effortless transition from Sauron-ravaged Middle Earth to terrorist-ravaged L.A., complained that in joining the show this season, “The main challenge was memorizing all the techno-talk.” And who can blame him? All the chatter about firewalls, sockets, encryption keys, and access codes could fry the mental circuitry of even the most seasoned hardware nerd. Ultimately, though, it is just another part of the show’s obfuscation-cloaked demeanor — an easy way for the writers to usher in sketchy plot twists under a veil of indecipherability.

And usher they do: 24’s story arcs are credibility-straining orgies of narrative sleight of hand. Each season sprouts a tangled thicket of duplicity and deceit through which Jack and company must hack and slash in search of the truth. Double agents, triple agents, spies pretending to be moles pretending to be spies — for the cast of 24, lies and misdirection are as obligatory as handshakes and hellos. In this way, the show reflects a central anxiety of our cultural moment, suggesting a world in which hidden motives and mistruths endlessly threaten to undermine everything from personal relationships to national security.

The barrage of subterfuge tends to blast the show into a plausibility-free stratosphere, drifting happily outside the reaches of the believable. But even as the show hemorrhages logical coherence, it bulks up on rocket-fueled suspense. Powered most of all by the ferocious, duty-bound determination of its protagonist, 24 proves that all work and no play makes Jack anything but a dull boy.

That was beautiful. Jack caught the reflection and immediately we got a quality showdown right there.

Even the closeups of "Bauer vs. Matrix Agent" at the end were tight....like the portrait vs. screen before a match starts in SF2.

Awesome Audrey continues to look magically delicious....she's even better with the glasses on. I was hoping for a catfight between her and D-cup Diane, but no such luck there. Meanwhile, we see that Big-Titty 1st Lady has flown away like so many mvc2 Storms.

heh, Fat Edgar still reminds me of Rocksteady from the old TMNT cartoon. He's a rhino mutant that can walk upright and wear people clothes. :rofl:

Shit I mean once the scissors came on the screen I am sure everyone knew it was coming. Funny how everything the assassin did Jack just did better, tried choking and attempted bone breaking but all it did was annoy him.

Chole was vicious in the first thirty minutes though, granted it was only Edgar and Spencer but damn. Although it is surprising that the season's CTU mole not only got busted this early but caved faster than any suspect that hadn't been tortured.

This episode seemed dedicated to showing that Spencer is at the bottom tier in all of 24 seasons.

I know this is an esoteric reference, but when Jack said "I don't work for CTU" it reminded me of an episode of Evangelion where Eva Unit 01 was unleashed from all of it's armor restraints and went ballistic. Anybody get me?
