TV's/Systems/ and Games are needed. Discounts are available. Contact me. We NEED two DOA4 stations and two GGX#R stations.. as I have none of that equipment.

Also... if you have a DC VGA adapter... PLEASE bring it!!

Tourney Fees:

Tourney entrance fee: 10$

Venue Fee for 1 Game: 5$

Venue Fee for multiple games: 7$
(these are one time fees. if you play 4 tourneys, you'll pay 7 bucks. 1 tourney, 5 bucks, etc)

Try not to gripe about tourney fees plz. It is a business, and it's not profitable to let 60 play play games for 8 hours at 2 dollars a head.



All matches will be 2of3, save Grand Finals, which will be 3 of 5.

Im sorry to say but most of the people who come for MvC2 do not bring anything(sometimes no joysticks, DCs, and never any tvs(my 13 inch is too weak)). If you can gurantee that all the games has a chance of getting a decent tv, I'd be more than happy to raise the price to $10.

I definently suggest on moving some of the things around in the room. The two big screens were right in front of the door, making the doorway more congested then my intestines. Maybe the big screens can be pushed against a wall? Or maybe moved to the back of the place near the windows.

And the location of the pool table is more random than a donkey swimming in a pool of jello.

Actually. I was planning on hooking up DCs to monitors (provided I get enough VGA adaptors... I have one already). So, while they won't be super huge tvs... marvel can have as many stations as its wants. and in non crowded areas (like the back room)

Here's a question: is the $10 fee what each person puts into the pot, meaning that if 10 people enter a tourney there will be $100 to be won and that the $5 fee is to walk in the door? Or is it the opposite way, the $10 fee is just to walk in the door and entering a tourney then costs $5 more?

Yes, PVFP, you're right about the fees for this time.... And if we can get a bunch of VGA converters, I'll do CvS2 on DC... but for now it's looking like PS2.

The Big Screens will be for different games.

When the tourney starts, we're doing 2d games only for two hours. Big screens will have those. After that, we probably will switch them over to the 3d games. It depends on turnout, and time. Also, it will be up to me. :-D

Can NGBC actually have a tournament this time?

And can SC3 be done in NOT team tournament style? Last time I ended up playing out the rest of the sets representing MD because halfway through the team tournament for SC3 the rest of my team either quit or was busy in other tournies. I gotta give props, Whodat, Millionz et al are good, but I'm not feeling SC3 team tourney this time mostly because it just didn't really seem to feel thorough ( not to mention that a lot of the good SC3 MD based players I know didn't show ), it should just be good old fashioned singles, mano e mano, gotta step my X game up. Also hopefully this time I won't get my shit smashed by DOACentral cats in DOA4....:sweat:

For me, I just can't see myself playing a game that's not even played in Japan. MVC2 is a rare "US scene only" kinda fighting game and that alone just detracts my interest in the game. Not to mention I really don't have the interest I used to in Marvel characters anymore. Especially since all of my favorite Marvel characters are like useless tier in that game.

Japan just has a bigger fighting game scene in general and there's no point in messing with a game they don't even play IMO. Obviously for the people that like to play the game...that's not an issue. But for someone who just doesn't care for the game to begin with...it's just another reason why I shouldn't touch that mess. At least we go back and forth with them in games like 3rd Strike and Guilty Gear. MVC2 is just a US only thing so the scene is just kind of a "west coast" vs. "east coast" situation. Just not as exciting as USA vs. Japan. Plus, I just don't fucking like the game. :tup:

Oh and yes...no one in the US plays Final Tuned cuz...there's no way we can even fuckin play that game here. Evo's got scene in the US (arguably) but... playing Final Tuned is a moot point unless you live in Cali.

well, its a tournament, with correct directing, all the games should receive the same treatment/support. Nobody but me does anything for MvC2, so does that mean that I should have a big ass tv to myself? No, and it isnt fair to get the best tvs for one game. Hell, I wouldnt even care if SC3 got one of the nice tvs, as long as one game isnt hogging all the equipment. It doesnt matter to me if GG got a big screen, as long as everything is as equal as possible.

Every game has their stupid shit that just doesn't appeal to other gamers. 3S has a lot of funny guess type situations but seriously, that's why especially in Japan you can have a large selection of characters winning tournaments. The parrying system simply allows for more opportunities to score damage and blow past offenses that would just be unbearable in a different fighting game. It's fun for everyone to watch/play 3S cuz you really never know WTF is gonna happen next.

Honestly IMO, MVC2 is just one of those games that happens to be so broke that it's balanced. Part of the reason why I believe Japan just stopped playing it. Aside from the fact that Marvel characters just aren't a big thing over there. In MVC2, you kinda just have your 6 or 7 characters that are tourney worthy and the rest are either assist worthy or just not worth using. Capcom is a great assist but...by god if he ever gets put against a top tier character...oh man. It just looks like complete rape. The game admittedly has more "consistancy" than say 3S but...that's also why the game is just not as popular as it used to be. It's kinda the same stuff that everyone's already seen. Cable, Storm, Sentinel, Mag, rinse, repeat. There's a lot of other fun stuff to the game but...most of it is either so glitchy that people don't allow it in tournaments or it generally just loses to Cable, Storm, Sentinel, Mag. :wasted:

Maybe some obscure team here and there with a good assist but it's all the same. First person to get set up in the infinite dies, blah blah. What MVC2 has going for it though is that unlike earlier VS. games, the infinites require more thinking and execution to set up so you don't get the "c.LK to you die" syndrome from the older vs. series. Overall though, the game just has too concrete of a tier list to really make the game interesting over long periods of time for me. There's not much incentive to pick even mid tier characters cuz the higher tiered ones just flat out have more going for them with nothing else to balance things out. Really, what MVC2 has going for it is that it's just a consistant game that requires a lot of skill to play at high level. Which is more than enough to have it a tournament worthy game.

It just doesn't have variety at high levels of play like 3rd Strike does. You just pick the best 6 characters or you can forget it. :lol: 3rd Strike has tiers but because of the parrying system and the way the game works in general, anything can happen. You're not at a total loss in 3rd Strike just cuz you have a bad match up. In 3rd Strike, with the majority of bad matchups the person who is disadvantaged still has ways of utilizing what they have to win the fight. In MVC2 if you have a bad matchup...you have a bad matchup. :razz: Plus in 3S, the lower tiers are actually good counters against some of the higher tier characters. Which creates more reason to utilize and learn lower tiered characters. Especially in team tournaments.

I mean, you can call 3S a "hardcore guessing game" but, if the Japanese still today are making us look bad in the game...it can't just be because they guess better than we do. 3S has a lot of funny situations where things could happen either way but...when you play smart it's just like playing any other SF game. When you have someone knocked down, you have more options, you can still bait people that jump too much and everything else. The only thing is that shit can happen from time to time that just wouldn't work in other SF games. A prime example being the fight between J.Wong and Daigo. In Super Turbo...Daigo's dead. In 3S, Daigo wins! :clap: I'm sorry but, it's just more fun when Daigo wins and that's why peepz like 3S. They like dramatic upsets. :tup:

As for why MVC2 is at more major tournaments than GG...that's easy. People see MVC2 and they're like "oh ooh, Mag, Storm, Sentinel, my fav Marvel characters. Runaway Storm pwns j00." Then they go play Guilty Gear and they're like..."hmmm....obscure guy girl thing with yo yo, guy with a pool cue, some Morrigan like chick with a guitar, um...wtf is this game about?" and then go back to MVC2. # Reload is big in Japan...it just hasn't caught on in the US cuz like SF3 was years ago...no one knew WTF it was about so no one really cared. Which then in turn explains why no one plays MVC2 in Japan. Cuz no one there fuckin cares about a broke ass game with characters from Marvel. :lol:

At any random tournament, random tourney entrant A will not like 3S as much as random tourney entrant B. They both like 3rd Strike but, one has a real passion for the game while the other just plays it just so they can have another game under their belt that they know how to play. If he didn't have to play 3S, he really wouldn't.

I think that's what makes fighting games interesting though. Even if you don't really like a certain game, it's the competitive aspect of the games that makes you play regardless. I mean, I fuckin talk shit about MVC2 all day and I fucking hate the game's guts but, I'll still sit down to mess around with it when some friends are over. I can't stand the game but...just because I know it's a competitive game and I have to think when I play it, the competitive aspect still makes it fun. You just have to find the game that appeals most to you as far as what you're lookin for in a competitive fighting game. Marvel still sucks ass.

Hopefully the higher venue fees won't scare off too many people at this DC monthly. It does seem that CVS2 is generally losing popularity though at the Cyberclub. Makes sense. For whatever reason, 2 tourneys ago (the first one I went to) it seemed like the 3S scene was non existant. Only one tv had 3S and it was on the crappiest one with a virtually broken PS2. The next month...it was like 3S heads came out of nowhere. it was on the big screen as soon as I got there. We had nearly 30 peepz in that tourney. Looking forward to a big turnout next monthly too.

I never said I didn't like that idea of throwing tournaments. I like it, actually. You're changing the subject. And I don't like saying that I'm the best in Maryland/Virginia/DC in Marvel, because players around here aren't good anyway.. so what's the point in saying it? And the only way you guys are going to get any better is by going to major tournaments, entering, and getting the experience from playing other people from other states that are better than you. The only thing that throwing local tournaments is going to do is make the scrubbier people better, so everyone will be on the same level as their top player, eventually. It would be best if you people just got together and played every week, then plan trips to go to major tournaments with everyone.. that's the best way to get better.

While I guess that's his right to do so, he's doing it more out of protest than anything else. A couple of people have complained about the small venue in a mall, but I guess we'll have to see.

My take is this, 3D players will go to JM's tourney. He has more pull in those games. 2D gamers will most likely come to mine, b/c JM hasn't run a satisfactory 2D tourney in quite some time (past rva tourneys, 2D got no love).

If running 3D games isn't practical (i.e. no one shows for them) I'll run more 2D events/games. I.E. Hyper SF2, Naruto, NGBC and maybe some XSF? I'll need everyone's thoughts.

And yes, GGX#R is 2D, and i'll put you guys on a big screen. :-D

my name is David le the owner of c3 cyber club. i'm posting this forum because i want to get the record straight publicly about my business relationship with jin master and monthly tournament. You have only heard one sided story from Jin master, whom keep using me as greedy bastard to promote his tournament.

First, i want to thank you everyone had come out previous tournaments to support our sene.

I agreed with Jin master to let him promote the 2d/3d tournaments at my center for few times as trial basis and that's how monthly tournament started at our center. I have emailed jin master several times and left him several messages after our last tournament at our center to confirm the next monthly tournament date (2/25) and the reasons i needed to in crease venue fee. Jin master did not response to me because Jin Master was too busy promoting his Richmond Tournament. I had contacted Jaguar to ask him if he knew jin master still want to do tournament at my center or not because jaguar was helping jin master to promote his las Richmond Tourny. Still i had no response from jin master.
since, the community has been informed about monthly tournament, i has to be caried on with our withou Jin master.

i'm very busy and know very little about 2d/3d senes, i decided to post an annoucement on this forum few weeks ago about looking to hire experienced tourny promoter to continue to commit to our monthly tournament. I immediately got bunch of people from community wanted to help, (still i have not heard from jin master,i'm sure he read my post). i contacted jaguar asking for opnion, jaguar has highly recomended " renegae" Robin. I rembember Renegae, he is nice, reasonble, pleasant man,because we had casual conversation when he attend our previous tournament.

I decided to ask regenade to promote the tournament. So, i'ts c3 cyber club and Renegate monthly tournament. We decided to move the tournament to 3/4 to give the community more time after Jin master richmond tourney and to avoid confusions about, monthly tournament will not be run by jin master at my place.
I and Renegade had discuss about the small increase in venue neccessary to improve the quality of the tournament and to make sure people have the great time.

Then, all of a sudden, few days ago, i received un -pleasant email from Jin master accuse me of side step him about our business relationship and threaten to make sure no one will show up to 3/4 tournament. i had immediately responded to his email without realizing that he has been promoting another tournament out of protest, on the same day as Renegade has long been advertising. this is disrespecful to Renegade and cause the confusion to people already made plans to come. I think, Jin master thinks that he can influences the community to go to his tournament because he has great pulled. Well, i will let the players decide. But i do not appreciate he accuse me about being greedy and said that i will increase venue fees again so he can influences players to his tournament. Jin master charged $10 venue at Richmond tourny, i did not here his complain.

but here is my personal experience/assesment about the way Jin master ran previous tournaments. he was always come late, not organize, did not even show up last tournament . thank you to Jaguar, Eric and Robin and many other players were ther to help run the tournament.

Renegade and i committed to continue to run better quality monthly tournament at c3 cyber club and here is what we can offer to players

1. we just bought eight 27" and 20" flat screen tvs. Total 10 tvs inlcude 2 big ones
2. we stay open util whenever tournament finished. last couple tournaments, about a dozen of players had stay till 3am withoul paying any extra.
3. we have the space to hold about 100 people or more, last time. because of poor organizer we did not move things around to accomodate 75 people attended, therefore it was kind of tight.
4. Many fast foods places around open late.
5. redbull gave away free drinks last tournament, they might come out again.

Jin master tournament will be in spring field next week, then where the tournament be next time, another time,.
our tournament will continue to be at one place, c3 cyber club.

i hope to continue to see you you at our 3/4 tournament and thank you for all your support.

I can't go, I'll be on spring break, but if I were here I'd go to the Sterling tournament for 3S. I don't intend to go back again if the price is raised even more, but I also don't think Jinmaster is handling this very well. There's been a tournament planned on March 4 for a while now, and it's the one Renegade is organizing. It seems people are saying that for 3D games they're going to Jinmaster's thing, and for 2D they're going to Renegade's.
