Why would they make a GGXXX when Slash just come out? The game hasn't even reached it's potential yet; it'd be silly to release a new Guilty Gear at this point.

My guess is that it's a completely new game. Hopefully it's a new fighting game, but we'll have to see.

Doesn't sound like a Guilty Gear game to me... I mean come on, Accent Core is only in it's second or third beta stage, I doubt they'll anounce another one this soon, seems a bit pointless don't you think? My guess is it's either, HnK1.5, HnK2 or an entirely different game...

Well, if it means anything, a guy at NeoGAF said that he heard that BF may NOT be a fighting game at all. According to him, it may turn out to be a side-scroller brawler (like possibly Capcom's D&D series, maybe?).

If that could be the case, well then, sure, I'm still very much interested! Giving GGJudgement, it very much seemed like ArcSys desires to make their own brawling series, but Judgement was only an "experiment" to see how well they could perform in that aspect, at best. Now with BF, they could get finally have the chance to do this type of game the way they wish.

Heh, whomever said that ASW was basically "90s-style Capcom revived" probably had the right idea. Now ASW may be on their way to trying to capture another old market that Capcom used to call their own...

OMG are you guys stupid or something I bumped the thread because there's a loketest this weekend.

And IaMP is fine it's just doesn't seem raw enough...it seems really gradual to me with few spikes in the action. ie someone gets hit by a Cable nade and gets fried. I might give it a real try one of these days.

I dont know much about Battle Fantasia. But most of these figting characters are from the anime Fate Stay Night.

Well, my interest is piqued. It looks to be more or less a stylish continuation over where Rumble Fish left off. And since I liked RF and its sequel, I'll look out for this. :wgrin:

To be honest, I'm still surprised that more fighting game developers didn't opt for the "Rumble Fish" graphic style as a means to continue 2D Vs. game development. If nothing else, the RF-style made it so you could still technically make 2D games, just with using 3D models to get the job done. Plus, I always thought the "battle damage" thing was a nifty feature.

...Any way, as already said, I'll keep an eye on this. I suppose the only thing I'm concerned about now is what could happen when it comes time for a home console port. While it's a 2D-style game, it DOES use the Taito X2 board, which may indeed be beyond the realm of plausibility for the aging PS2 hardware...and since it's still a 2D style game, I'm sure Sony and M$ won't be that open to the idea of a port to their newest consoles either... :sweat:

I thought it was pretty hard to tell in those test videos (at least for me) if the game was gunning for just a cartoon-looking 3D like the background is, for the game's character models, or if the characters were cell shaded.

-Cedric, Bridget version 2? ; )
-Notice the HP stat underneath the health bars. If it represents the total amt. of remaining health that's pretty cool.
- LOL @ the game message in the third pic. Just reminds me how too PC like the game's hardware is (look for pics of the game's hardware).

Yeah, I noticed that too about the third picture. It obviously crashed during a test, they should be running that shit on linux rolfbombz

Also did you notice the character, Death Bringer. Simply put, that name is so cheesy it's bad ass, just like face.

Looks like they might really push this title.

It's looking a bit slow and Samurai Spirits ish for me, just a zoning and poking fest... Hopefully it'll develop into something good; it's Arc Systems so it has to be alright at least... Some of the videos look good, where as others seem a bit dull and boring, but it's a new game so we'll just have to wait and see...

According to what I heard, it's actually supposed to be something closer to a classical "Street Fighter" type of game engine. No air-dashing, no "dusting", no FD-ing of any sort...I'm not even sure if this baby has air blocking of some sort or not.

In other words...Arc Systems has seemingly FINALLY made a game that's truly removed from the GG formula! :lovin:

Don't get me wrong, I like GG fine, and I love HnK even more, but I was highly desiring ASW to make a fighting game that was completely different from what they did before, and I was a lil disappointed when HnK could be basically summed up as "slightly different, a bit slower GGXX".

Thus, seeing how this game is shaping up to be something different entirely, my interest is piqued. Me want to play this game and Arcana Heart NOW! :lovin: :lovin:

Hopefully, the fact that it's on the TX2 means that porting jobs to home consoles can be done MUCH faster!

Air dashing is definitely in, the Cat girl can air dash and do HnK style IAD mixups... she may be the only one though. No air blocking though.

Overall though it doesn't look like it plays like GG or HnK at all. I love the characters (even the super fat steam powered Viking seems interesting) and the look of the game. I think it might look a little simple/boring because of the players, and the fact that it's just totally new. Some of the vids were pretty interesting, most were just people dinking around.

Heh, that much is true. There was easily at least one vid where one guy just made his character hop in the air a bunch of times, and the other player just started getting next to him and doing the same thing for several seconds before they actually got back to what they were supposed to be doing. ^^;

On another note...is it feasible to believe that this game may be a possible start of a new trend of doing 2D fighters altogether? I mean, granted, it's got to be less taxing to use 3D models like BF is doing as opposed to drawing hundreds upon possibly thousands of sprites.

At this point, if this graphic style is a viable way for the 2D vs. fighter genre to continue on, I say, let 'em do it. Especially if they can retain the overall feel of a 2D fighter, like this game seems to accomplish.

2D sprites are a LOT of work yeah, but doing 3D this well I'm sure is a ton of work too. Getting all of the animation to look ... well... like 2D... must be a royal pain (otherwise you'd think Rumble Fish or some other game would have done it well by now).

But the difference is the payoff. The 3D looks jawsome, the animation is great, plus it's more versatile (they can do the close ups at an angle and stuff). Plus you'll most likely bring in more players who are conserned about graphics.

One of the guys reminds me a bit of Slayer. He's got practically the same throw as him and looks like close range. The "powered" up mode looks really cool too. Flames eminating from the character's shoulders and head. The game looks like it's got some tech type blocking + reversal which has a wall bounce effect. I HOPE this game rewards jumping in attacks very handsomly(combo city) for some characters, the case being you can't block in the air.

There's a little guy with a sword who also has what looks like to be a standing overhead, it's fast and has knockdown. Dream for all Johnny players.

I hope this type of fighting game brings in some people from the RPG genre and revive the fighting game scene. I could see it happening both in USA and Japan. I wanna kick RPG lover ass!

I personally doubt that many RPG lovers will jump over just because one game decides to draw inspiration from their favored genre, but hey, it's a shot.

And any way, you and all other naysayers can laugh all you want about Face now. It'll just be all the more sweeter when he turns out to be a kick-ass lil sumbitch later on... :wgrin: In other words, I'm claiming Face as being the character I'll definitely learn first when I play this game.

I'ma prolly rate the character's coolness levels as I watch random vids from the net, then see who's moves are closest to some other character's moves I already know from a different fighting game. Then move up from there, prolly change chars one more time after that if I made a bad choice.

Only positives were about the hardware itself. And even that wasn't all positive, with the comment about the lack of card support.

The things about the game itself mostly came across as "meh" or even negative.

A bit of new stuff for Battle Fantasia today, courtesy of neo-arcadia.com and watch impress.

Both links basically state the same thing (though neo-arcadia actually has some fliers uploaded too); among other things, it seems the game's official release date will be in March of next year. The screenshots used may have been from another loke test, because I believe the cabinets used this time around are slightly different from the one a couple weeks back.

In any case, still looks quite interesting. And between Arcana Heart and this game, I'm personally looking more forward to this one being the "new '2D' fighting game to get into".

Hope this is appreciated and not old'd.

Possibly...after all, by final release, we don't necessarily want to see Windows-esque "Crashes" occuring periodically, do we? ;)

But what I'm also thinking is appropriate is that Arc Systems may just want to give this game its own individual "space". Between Arcana Heart coming out in January, the new GG coming out soon enough, and I'm sure SNKP will at least provide one new thing later on in 2007, that's a good deal of sizable competition for a new player on the market such as BF, and one of them even comes from the same company that Battle Fantasia is made from.

So, in the interest of assuring that BF can have its own time in the sun (or at least, for as long as possible), maybe it's for the best that it's held off til March. The last thing I think Arc Systems and/or Taito could want would be for this game to be overshadowed by, of all things, its "big brother" Guilty Gear in the arcade scene, or have to share the spotlight with Arcana Heart. And in that respect, Arc Sys probably is exercising good judgement.

As long as they don't do anything like delay the home console port to about year and some change later (as is the case with HnK), I think we'll be alright. :wgrin:
