I've noticed some peeps on SRK have websites where they display their works and what not. Well.... I'm wondering how you go about doing that.
I'm not asking for html help or anything, that I can figure on my own. I'm more interested in things like, where do I buy a domain name, how much does it cost and other helpful hints you might have picked up along the way. I know I could google this shit but it's always better to hear from someone that's doing it.
Who is the cat with the super professional looking photography site? If anyone remembers my " The Fat is taking over me " thread and you liked it and would like to help me out in any way shape or form, that would be cool. - The Shin

1and1.com is a good host, 2.99/month is a pretty good deal. They do domain registration as well, not to sure on the price, I think it's around $20/yr.

VSLASH runs http://www.carinfrog.com, and he bought it from http://www.netfirms.com. I remember because my dad bought his domain from the same company. (He runs a small business)
If you're a college student, your university most likely has free web hosting.
Unless you go to a really shitty university...

Wow Jeebus, look at you with the plug.
Yeah I paid 60 dollars for the entire year and I got all this crap.
Since me and my webmaster are both super noobs we barely use 5 % of the crap we got.
We could have a forum and host stuff, and yadda yadda yadda.
Get ready for full site revamp soon though !

Darn, I gotta get a domain through NetFirms. CIRA is raping me.

Go to Kevin M. on that page. That's a bit of my work as a designer/developer. I am getting better with Flash.
I'll update this when my REAL site is up. I have space through the school, but my site is still in development until next week. http://as2monk.blogspot.com/ is my developer blog.
My advice: know what you want it for by mapping out your future intentions and go from there. i.e. If you know you're going to host a forum like this, make sure they have a program that does it, with databases and a scripting language that allows the page to talk to those databases. If they do not have the program or software, you can always get it someplace else like on the web. Factors such as those can help.
Also, check out the specs before making a commitment.
btw SNAAKE, your site's flash player is not even displaying anything and some of your images are broken.

Thanks a lot everyone. It seems that www.theyellowbanana.com isn't taken. I'm tempted to take that, I just like that word, banana. Any alternative suggestions for a domain name?
Edit: www.thebigbananaboat.com and www.bigbananaboat.com aren't taken either.... suggestions? www.bananapants. also not taken.....

I got a website at http://www.piratedog.net/~dmanning
It's running on a server in a buddies basement, so I havn't really sunk a lot of time into it. As soon as I finish the next version of Super Pillow Fighter I'll probably get a real hosting package and set up a website to sell it.

I use Dreamhost. Lots of built in features, cheap, and all around great service. For like 9.99 a month you get 20 gigs of space and I forget the bandwidth. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
Sites I have registered through dreamhost:
http://surprisebuttsex.com - first domain I registered, did it as a joke. just junk on there, pictures from my trips to this sandbox of hell.
http://girlprocessing.com - my girlfriend's site. The name is from a conversation we had while driving one day; she was playing Lumines and couldn't get past 30,000 points. I told her she'd get it eventually, she said "Yeah, I know... girlprocessing is slow..." I took the bait and replied with "Yeah... That's why I'm waiting for them to make Fatherboards; motherboards are just too slow". She was mad for a while, but though it was funny.
http://boyprocessing.com - Couldn't think of anything better, so I made this as my personal site. Not alot of free time, so I haven't done anything with it yet. Will eventually post art/stories/etc. Maybe host some match videos too.
