Though that just might be me being a fan the movies' Magneto speaking.

Not bad
Good:the interchange btw/ Logan/Scott and Beast owns.MAgnus/Pyro too
Dislike: Callisto delivery/powers seems amateurish to me. Storm acting still blase
Question: that guy who speaks in the church b4 Magnus, is he a comic char or just a random dude? And is that Toad sticking to the wall there?

Peace out.

Did Colossus just 'spread' his organic metal in that clip?

Was he ever able to do that?

I still think the movie's going to flat out suck, but I'll see it regardless.

haha nice, looks like all the negative stuff ppl are saying about the trailer made them release this one.
Pretty big for a sneak preview 7 min. long.

Also like ppl have said before (the ones who were thinking logically instead of whining), the scene with Juggernaut running and breaking through walls did look like he and Shadowcat were after something.

umm when did angel become the most powerful mutant?

HE IS A FRIGGEN FAIRY...HE HAS WINGS!!

thats his power..flight..he used to cap people with guns cause all he has is wings

Pimp Willy
05-12-2006, 09:46 AM
Angel truly is a lame excuse for an X-man. His only power was flight. Other characters have that (Storm, Rogue, Jean w/telekinesis, Sunfire, etc etc) and a whole lot more. But at the beginning of the series, he was the only one who could. As new mutants evolved, Angel just kinda got pushed aside. His only redeeming factor is the archangel arch. Why they wanted to put him on the big screen is beyond me.

I would have much, much rather seen Gambit. We'll have to hold out hope for the next one, because he's the next big screen character everyone wants to see (And has wanted to see for 2 films).

This 7 minute preview at least put my mind to rest about the crappy sentinel clip we saw before. And Shadowcat owning Juggs was top notch. But if Rogue continues to be Emo Rogue, I'm gonna slap the producers. She should take the bait and want the "cure," that much I can understand, but if every fight has her screaming her lungs off and crying for help, I'll be mad. Just set up her fight with Ms. Marvel already, let her get her damn GOOD powers, and be done with it. No more Evolution Rogue.

Well technically he also had a healing factor transmitable through blood though that's after the whole Juggernaut/Black Tom thing. I doubt they went that far into the storyline. I guess they put him in because his father was the one who funded the research IIRC.

Also the reason I liked Batman Begins so much is not for it's accuracy to the comic book, far from it (I dont remember the love story thing with the DA in the comic book o.O) but the overall darkness and atmosphere of the movie.

Batman Begins delivered. It had the origin(although obviously not accurate) and it had a much better pace to it. There was more reason for the final battle sequence than Tim Burton's Batman. And the Joker and Batman didn't really have it out in the Burton flicks. So that was kind of a drag for me.

But yeah, Xmen 3 is looking alright. I'm still gonna see it. I'm just not digging Juggernaut all that much.

X3 juggernaut is gonna be sad. You already know collossuss is going to own him when they meet eventually in the movie, but even friggin' shadowcat beasts his ass too in the trailor?!

Well there was a logical reason for him getting nerfed. I mean he took out Cytorakk the god responsable for his powers. And actually it seemed when he faught the eveil versions of some Xmen he exhibited some of the old juggs so maybe hes slowly getting his shit back. Which could mean he didnt finish Cytorakk off and hes been fucking with his powers.

I must've confused the newgrounds x-men movie with the dubbed one.

So the dubbed x-men cartoon with the "Juggernaut Bitch" line is actually older than a year since this movie has been in production longer than that? or Is it just all wishful thinking on everyone's part for him to say the line, just like seeing a Sentinel fly stomp in the movie would be cool although it never does that in the comic?

I just saw X-men: the last stand today. I think it was pretty fucking awesome, and All the one-liners (well both of them) involving the Juggernaut were hilarious. "Don't you know who I am?" Also, angel's part wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be, although he wasn't a main character. The whole story basically revolves around Jean/Phoenix, so if you are looking for an all out battle between Juggernaut and Colossus, it isn't there. But yeah, it was good stuff. Just be sure to see it as a whole new continuity, not a part of any other series or book.

I'm a press guy. Actually, my girlfriend owns an entertainment magazine locally, and I run a local skateboard magazine. We were both at the screener for review purposes. There are screeners in most larger cities today. Actually though, I didn't even need any kind of creds today, I just said, 'I'm here for the screener' and they just told me to go on in. I don't think most of the people there had any intention of "reviewing" the movie, at least in print.

I think the first and the last Batman movies are really the only ones I could sit through anymore.

Kelsey Grammar was pretty good in the movie. It seemed pretty funny with him in a suit and tie, but in the end, it all came together. I think whoever did the casting was pretty great, most of the characters seemed perfect. Well, a lot of them did, anyway. I still can't get over the Juggernaut. I know he isn't supposed to be a mutant, but he was kind of a highlight in the movie for me.

hey final cut , I have some non-spoiler questions for you, if you dont mind.

1) Did you feel the short length of the movie affected it a lot? Or does it have a good pace even thought it sonly like 1hr 36 min?
2) Without going into specifics, Rumors say a lot of important chars get killed and cured in the movie. How upset were you at this(if at all) ? Did some of these feel crappily thrown in there in your opinion?
3) How good do you think this is compared to X2 or X1?
4) Did you see a secret scene after the credits?

Peace.

But an hour and 43 minutes?!?!?

blame it on FOX CEO Tom Rothman,. Fox has this retarded belief that superhero movies should be like 90/100 min in thatres(Daredevil, Fantastic Four, X1)
Also, money. Theatres can show a 90 min flick more times a day than a 2hr movie.
And they can milk fans buy havinga regular dvd, then the "Extended directo cut".
Hell, DD directors cut is a lot better than the theatre vision, and Im sure as hell the 2x trick will be done w/X3 when it hits DVD shelves.

1) It actually seemed slightly slow, but the story was interesting so I didn't really care. They saved most of the heavy action for the end, Save the Danger Room sequence in the beginning. (The one from the preview in the opening of this post).
2) The Deaths in the movie seemed to work as far as the storyline was concerned. So long as you aren't desperate for a movie that mimics the comic continuity to a T, I don't think you will be too pissed about it. It seemed to work. Dunno how to get into the whole 'Cured' thing without spoiling anything.

3) I liked it a lot. I think its been about a year or so since I have seen the previous ones, but I like this one most probably because it had lots of new faces, and the story seems more complete after having watched it.
4)Didn't get the chance. We had to leave the Theater During the Credits. Screeners are very strict, and you can't even take a bag/purse into the theater, so You'll have to wait for this.

They did have news scenes where every station was "Fox News". That was kind of Off-Putting, kind of like it didn't fit in and they were just trying to put that station's name in the movie, Kind of like pizza hut in the old ninja turtles arcade game for NES.

The Mullah

Movie was ok.

I felt it was well paced. It didn't feel too short. If anyones noticed i didn't like the first two films, but this third one was more enjoyable to me.

i used to read the comics when i was younger, so it felt kinda weird to see some main characters get killed off but i guess it works better for the story. spoilerscyclops dying off near the start was a good move for me, i liked the character dynamic with wolvie so to have him suddenly die wfelt like a loss. xavier dying i didn't really care about (and also the xmen with wolvie and storm leading felt tacky) and jean dying at the end was kinda expected so who cares

famke is beautiful as ever and looks great as pheonix. i didn't read the pheonix saga so i'm sure she's not an accurate rendition of her comic counterpart but fuck, the xmen films dont really like to stick to the comics so not a major gripe this late in the game.

Juggs was crap, magneto was crap (as he wasi n both previous films) but he did say i'm the juggernaut bitch so that was cool. The action scenes weren't that great, no proper one on one fights which was a shame.

better than the first two, only because characters die and that at least adds something to another fucking boring xmen film storyline.

Why is everyone liking this development? The only X villain the films haven't completely punked until now is Mags.....don't build a villain up if you're just going to dispatch him/her like garbage.

And wtg, Halle Berry, more screen time for you = Cyke has to go. He had all of like 2 lines in the 2nd film, but I still bet he didn't cry 1/2 as much as you did. The 3rd movie would've probably been better off without her.

Other than that, I'm keeping a positive outlook for this. The reaction to the sneak peek at Cannes was not very uplifting but those people get paid to hate everything they watch. I hope this one at least leaves enough positive vibe when the dust settles to justify a 4th(with Gary Oldman as Sinister....make it happen dammit).

And the whole Iceman dabbling with Kitty behind Rogue's back is from the Ultimate storyline, right? They didn't just decide, hey let's create this tension for the fuck of it.

As for Cyke spitiful screentime, ive heard it was part that, but mostly FOx was being immature in that they saw James Marsden(Cyclops) went to shoot Superman returns and wanted to "spite" him for appearing in the competitions film.
Their gay asses should have signed Bryan Singer and cast as soon as X2 did well in theatres, bt they waited like almost a year to make any move. Then when Bryan singer is approached by WB to do Superman wbig budget and less bullshit, so of course he goes, and MArsden , unsure of status of X3 accepts Singers role in that movie. Then, of course, when WB plans to have Supes come out summer 06, they rush production just to beat WB to the punch.
They probably forced the writers to make sure he was even more non-existent than X2, pretty much a cameo.
Bah. Politics

also saw it last night. the after-the-credits bit was interesting to say the least. so interesting that this one shouldn't have been called "the LAST stand." wink. movie wise, the phoenix story was kind of raped but once you realize the runtime was just over an hour and a half you realize that probably couldn't have been helped. beast owned, jugg make me lol and angel was the deifinition of a secondary character. it was cool that they tried to include so many characters, but some were just goofy and pointless i.e. quill.

i liked 2 more, as i'm sure will most "more than casual" fans will.

Got back from it. It opened here two days ahead of the US release it seems. I haven't read the comics in the longest time, and I haven't really seen many trailers, so bear with me. Heavy spoilers ahead.

It's a wacky mix of anti-mutant hysteria, the Brotherhood, and um the Dark Phoenix.

Angel's dad is this lab guy who made an anti-mutant antibody. He tries to use it on Angel, but Angel gets away. The "cure to mutation" is then advertised. The government wants to weaponize the things. Of course, Magneto says "hell no".

The "cure" or antibody as it were comes from the genes of a kid named Jimmy (James McTaggert or Proteus perhaps?) whose power is to suppress other mutant powers near him. The way they showed it was silly though. Beast reaches out to shake Jimmy's hand, and poof! Beasts hand is suddenly hairless and normal-colored. He moves away, and the fur and color returns.

Charles, Cykes, and Jean are all gone at the end. Hm. Not really sure about Charles and Cykes, but Jean suffered a fate similar to the one in the Phoenix Saga i.e. Wolverine's claws in her gut. With Charles gone, it's Storm and Wolverine who run the school. Er, yeah.

Mystique and Magneto get hit by the "cure" via mini darts fired from soldiers' guns. Magneto becomes a normal old man at the very end, although it's teased that he might regain his powers (and thus the cure is a flop). Might've missed it but I think Rogue lost her powers too.

Mystique loses the scales and the blue color and becomes hot hot hot.

stuff:
-Holy crap, Trask is black?

-All the soldiers' guns were plastic. Magneto gets pissed at this. Magneto with Pyro assist was cheap, though.

-Lots of fun scenes in involving Madrox/Multiple Man. Like at one point where the army raids one of Magneto's supposed camps. It turns out that the "camp" is a decoy comprised entirely of Multiple Men.

-Omega Red seems to be there as well. The credits list someone as "Omega mutie", and there was a dude with an omega tattoo as well. It's not the life-draining, tendril using OR though. It was a guy who shot bone spears from his wrists. Other alterations include Juggernaut being a mutant, as he was affected by Jimmy's power.

- Spike of X-Men Evolution fame is there, but he's Asian. Jubilee and Psylocke are there as baddies, as well.

-Don't worry, there are bad lines here as well. Like when Mags yanked the Golden Gate Bridge off its foundations and altered its path so that it'd lad on the Worthington labs on Alcatraz. "Charles always wanted to build bridges." Beast says "oh my stars and garters" as a reaction to the bridge alteration.

-There was an Indiana Jones-esque moment at the last fight. Wolverine fought a jobber mutant who also had a healing factor and kept regenerating his limbs super fast (a la Picolo of DBZ) as Wolvie cut them off. The jobber mutant thought he won, but Wolvie kicked him in the balls. "Try growing THOSE back!"

-Stan Lee cameo is at the very start, where Magneto and Charles visit a young Jean Grey.

Kinda "blah" and average at best, and a bunch of weird changes, but I thought it was okay overall. I didn't think it was as bad as Daredevil or as annoying as Fantastic Four. Purists may want to approach it with caution, though.

Edit- and yeah "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch" is there.

Dangerous J

I think youve got some of the cameos wrong......

Quills is the Asian porcupine guy who weve seen in the trailer.
Spike is from X-statix comic, NOT XMEN EVOLUTION. He fires bony projectiles against wolvy , right?
"Spike, a controversial African-American character who made fun of Anarchist for being white inside, even though his skin is black. He is capable of extending thin spikes from his body or launching them as projectiles. "
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spike_%28Marvel_Comics%29

Jubilee has been at the school for the past 2 films as cameos, not w/Brotherhood.
The cure kid is supposed to be the morlock Leech, (who is green in the comics).
Omega Mutie prolly means like a generic gang of muties, NOT the omega red character. Youll notice Callisto has an omega tattoo, when she asks MAgnus if he has a mark.

Saw it tonight. It was average. Severely. They got some things right, but I felt this movie really lost sight of some of these great characters and instead opted for shoving more and more and more in. I'll go into it tomorrow when I get up.

The effects were fucking awesome though. Just gotta say that. More tomorrow.

I dunno, I really liked the movie. It's good to see a movie about mutants with incredible super powers actually do incredible things, not just talk. I mean come on, like the end part with phoenix wasnt the shit.
Only gripes I have are that it seemed like it was rushed. Too much crammed into too little time, so it doesnt really shine. And that most of the new characters didnt really serve a purpose (aside from Beast). Also that extra scene at the very end wasnt worth sitting through the credits.

All in all I'll probably go see it again, and most definately buy it when it comes out on dvd.

Gotta go to more midnight madness events with the nerds, man.

My theater:
We had all kinds. Businessmen, College kids, Starbucks hipsters, Closet dorks, "Outted" dorks, and more girls than I thought there would be. The homothugs that show up at every movie I go to stayed home for this one.
A real life version of the Comic Book Guy from the simpsons somehow knew half the theater, and made his rounds. Big man was running game on a few girls too.

We had cosplayers. A pretty good Nightcrawler, the X-play version of Picard in a wheelchair, Jean, Psylocke, and shirtless Angel were all there in a group. I should start carrying a camera on me.

That Snakes on a Plane trailer got cheers.
Nacho Libre got cheers.
Ghost Rider got "meh."

When the screen went black before the movie, some guy stood up in front with two fists raised in an X and yelled, "X-men! We must go and save the city!" You hear 30 people going "STFU." Dude sits down and everything gets quiet, then you hear "Right owwwn!" from the back, and then the movie starts.

Stuff I overheard:
*Enter Stan Lee* "Eyyyy!"
*everyone in the back* "Fraiiiser!"
"Dude, Hellboy & Al Sharpton had a kid."
"I think Angel's making me weird..... No homo."
"Don't you know who..." *theater goes* "I AMMM?!?"

Place smelled like an anime convention booth when it ended.

I know a lot of people thought that the movie was weak, but something needs to be said about watching something among "your people". Good times.

Kids is crazy.

went to a midnight madness as well, went with my friends who wanted to see it and some beezies who did nothing but ask me questions. wasnt that bad, i was such a little prick, cuz we bought our tickets online like 5 hours before the showing. we walked past the massive line and i just kept smirking, and wen i got my ticket in 5 seconds when people waited probably an hour i gave a wave to the line then went into the theatre. haha it was great

just want to note my favorite scenes:

Magneto car scene, and phoenix house scene

the phoenix was depicted very well, only thing missing was the fire. oh and there is a pretty hot scene with her and wolverine.

I'm a Cyclops fan and it really didn't bother me that he was neglected in this film. I mean, he was already neglected since X1. At least Joss Whedon is giving him enough exposure in Astonishing X-Men. That's fair enough for me.

In my opinion, this is the most moving X-Men movie. It pulled of emotional scenes that were really absent in the first two films, which basically were still trying to explain the world the the X-men live in (i.e., explain every bit of geeky things about mutant power and other things to the casual movie watcher).

Obviously less grandeur than either X1 or X2, this is still the most humanist X-Men movie yet, in which I initially doubt that it can be pulled off in a very geeky universe that the X-Men dwell in.

Yes, we have less explosions and special effects this time, but at least the closure it put to the trilogy in terms of its story is enough for me to give it my approval.

At least storm did SOMETHING for once, so that was a good change of pace.

Man, I really liked this movie. A lot. Weird part is I'm not sure why, I think I just lowered my expectations for it. Don't go in with your comic book knowledge looking for accuracy and you should be able to have a good time. Dark Phoenix is fucking god tier.

And, yes, it really does say "I'm the Juggernaught.... BITCH!"

Oh yeah, Snakes on a Plane had an awesome trailer, and everyone was hyped over that shit. Fucking internet nerds, haha.

Spoilers:

If you go back and watch the scene where charles is "destroyed," watch his face. He has a very smug grin on his face. He had that fallback plan all the time, which shows up after the credits. Before he is "destroyed," he simply places his mind into the body of that guy who was born without one. This is good because of the foreshadowing they had early with the class about the ethics of doing something like that. Guess we know where the professors ethics are.

The cure apparently wears off with Magneto (who got shot up with 4 needles), could that mean it wears off with everyone? Leech never took peoples powers forever, only for a short duration, so I assume it will be like that with "The cure." So we should see Rogue back with her powers sometime, plus Mystique, and the hundreds of pawns in the big fight scene as well.

Psylocke blows. I was going to argue that she might not have really been Psylocke, but she is credited as such in the end credits. Wtf, camoflauge?

the asian girl with the blue hair... i thought it was pretty obvious she was psylocke looks-wise. mutant power wise though

in the comics(in the 90s), she was owned by sabretooth. So wolvy and archangel revive using this mystical thing called crimson dawn. After that she could appear out of shadows. and she had a red marking over her eye for a time. when she was resurrected back recently , she didnt have it.
Either way, i find it hard that they would choose that ability over her psychic knife ability..........

That movie was ass. I can't believe the credits + additional scene really were part of the hour 43 minutes. Worst movie of the trilogy, hands down.

1. New characters who didn't serve any purpose thrown in for no reason.
2. Lame explanation of Jean's Phoenix powers (No, I didn't expect them to use the comic book's explanation, but WTF?!)
3. Beast's interest in the the mutant cure was hinted at but never explored
4. Halle Berry. Bitch is overrated. Her acting sucked and her lines sucked. Whenever I watch those movies all I see is just Halle Berry with white hair, rather than Storm.
5. Cyclops dying
6. For once the story doesn't revolve around Wolverine but he still manages to get all the screen time. I love Wolvie just like everyone else, but this time it didn't make sense for him to be in the audience's face all tha fuckin' time.

The general story of the movie just lacked focus. I mean, why didn't they just dedicate the whole movie to the Phoenix Saga, limit the amount of new characters, and perhaps put Magneto on the backburner this one time??? Shit, he's not the only supervillain in the X-Men universe.

Parts I enjoyed were the special FX, the beginning flashback scenes, the music that played whenever Jean went apeshit, the girl who played Kitty Pryde, and Famke Jansen (For an older lady, she sure knows how to turn tha hotness on when necessary).
