Well I just got a job as a Corrections Officer to put me through college and start my journey into law enforcement. Since I consider most yall aquaintances and friends and it since it might make an interesting thread, I was gonna keep SRKers informed on crazy shit that I'll probably see. I start training academy ina few weeks. I heard that I gotta get gased and shit. If the military srkers could tell me what to expect as far as the effects of the gas and mace on my body face are concerned, it would be appreciated.

for sure keep us updated, that sounds like a freakin crazy job to have. i'm looking for oddjobs this summer to last me through school, so this might give me some insight into the ins and outs of at least one of them

Ill be sure to do that. My only fear is getting jumped and shanked.

Ill be most likely getting into law enforcement as well by the end of the year. I'm almost done with the hiring process for Fairfax County PD, as well as the U.S. Capitol Police. Starting salaries will probably be the deciding factor for me, as both departments are good places to work.

People react differently to getting gased. Make sure you don't breathe it in once you break the seal of your pro mask. It's not that bad depending on how long they make you stay in there.

Getting maced on the otherhand.... is the worst imaginable pain ever. I had to get sprayed a week after I got to my unit. It can turn the most tough guys into little bitches. I can say without a doubt is the most painful thing I've done in awhile. As soon as they spray you, try to shake off as much as possible before opening your eyes. Funny thing is, they don't spray any more Infantry guys here at Fort Myer. I guess I was just lucky. :wasted:

I've read enough horror stories and been in enough prisons to know i would never want to be corrections officer. I know others agree with me becasue prisons have like fast food level turnover rates. But from your other posts i can tell your a pretty tough guy and could probably handle the stress. So good luck.

my friend and her boyfriend actually got jobs as corrections officers a few years ago they started off making $19 a hour and eventually moved up to 22 a hour and some change...

she said she took some tests, and some fightin/defense classes and some other shit for 6 months and was on the job...for her bein a female she said she likes it, theres alotta shit that goes on in there that she doesnt like but shes been in there for a awhile so shes pretty much adapted to it already...

I've been gassed twice. Once you break the seal on your pro-mask, they force you to breathe it in. They ask you questions / etc.. once they start seeing the gas affecting you (trust me, they'll know if you're faking it.. you'll probably get partway through an answer and just start hacking up a lung) they let you get out of the room. Once you get out, DO NOT RUB YOUR FACE / EYES. CS is pretty much crystalline.. and rubbing your face / eyes makes it worse. The gas starts "wearing off" after about 2-5 minutes if you walk around outside in a light breeze..
