good shit GGL is nice. i dont think you should show a vid of justin losing tho IMO. maybe the pixel win against X or something where he wins. but i can see how you were trying to show the excitement of a fighting game event.

Nice interview. Good post:tup:

I'm not entirely in control of what goes up or down, that was a ninja edit.

I think the logic is that IS a vid all the top PC gaming teams have seen, so knowing a player was in it helps validate fighters to the PC crowd. If you have a vid of him kicking the crap out of people let me know and I'll have it in the IView within 24 hours.

Plus a lot of PC gamers have famous vids of their magical loss.

October is going to be HUGE

Good read. I don't understand why a lot of people hate this guy.

TempestFox

People hate him because of how many other people ride his dick like he's the second coming.

And they're jealous.

GGL-steve

From talking to him face to face, over the phone, and in writing he is a really nice guy. I've spoken to a TON of top gamers and Justin is probably the most humble.

Register and post on the thread as well, I'm trying to get you guys a tournament in October

That was a pretty impressive interview, he sounds like a good guy. I'm interested in this Empire Arcadia or whatever thing, anymore details on that? Sounds like a spiffy idea.

Empire will be on a later interview.

LOL. Lots of people hate on Justin. If not himself than definitely his playing style. Even I don't necessarily "like" his playing style with certain characters in 3S *coughchuncough* but then again...it still is a unique style (I don't know anyone who turtles as hard with Chun as he does) and it gets him wins so what can I say. His Yun is a lot more offensive, that's for sure.

That was a nice interview. He seems to like 3s alot now. Thats good to hear. You should have asked him some questions regarding Marvel, but it was still a great interview. I too dont get how people can hate these top players. Maybe it's just jealousy.

Good Job. So whos next?

Yep, gotta agree, he sounds cool from everything that I see of him. He doesn't seem arrogant even with all of his accomplishments that he's achieved and it's quite alot. Mad props to JWong, the interview was really great too, hopefully next time there will be some Marvel questions, and I can't wait for the Empire interview, would be interesting to read.

Wow Justin has really lost weight, good for him.

"Justin Wong: At first, I didn't believe he could do it. Because I was really close in taking down Daigo at that time. And that’s something no one ever did in the US. So when he actually started parrying, I couldn't believe it because it's such a hard thing to do. But he deserved to win if he could actually do that."

Very good read. I respect Justin more after reading this. Lots of good insight and he seems a lot more humble than I expected him to be.

There is a lot of pressure on an individual that is trying to prove something. They want to prove that they are good at this game. We all once said "I'm really good at this game." Well here's the chance to prove it. In a tourney with other people that once said that line.

For some reason I really liked this quote a lot.

I've seen Justin at three tournaments and he always seems like just another player. Unlike certain people he's actually a very humble guy. It look like he was teaching someone kara throws at the last Final round.

Hating on him because of the way he plays is like getting mad at someone for using a "cheap" move.

Thank the players from your community taking the time to push it forward. Despite what some of you might feel about them, Jinmaster, Justin Wong, TriforceGM, and DSP are trying to push this forward as fast as can be done.

I'd like for vid makers, to contact me via pm so I can start uploading stuff.

Good interview. I like the part about how some people don't like him because of his style, because it illustrates that even in higher levels of play, some people still put ridiculous artificial restrictions on what should or shouldn't be allowed in the game.

The whole time, Justin never really came out and said, "Don't like my turtle style? Wise up or get used to losing," but he had every opportunity. He struck me as a nice guy.

Amen Good mourning..some people say you cant win this way or win that way..and say you should play this way or play that way when the bottom line is wins..

Look at the New Englad Patriots..they may not have been pretty but 3 Super Bowls speaks for itself.

Good interview BTW.

I have respect for people promoting fighting games even if I don't play them. There are tons of people who play these games but only a small portion of them will play in tournaments and this bothers me.

I agree, I really liked the interview, this part scared me though:

GGL-Steve: Some game genres have one group that dominates them, Koreans in StarCraft or Japanese in fighting games. You recently got back from the Super Battle Opera event in Japan and have played against their best many times. Do you have any thoughts on their community in comparison to the American community?

Justin Wong: Their community is much stronger than the American fighting game community. They have 100x more arcades then us. They also have the support from the arcades to run local tournaments every week. They have tournaments for every type of fighting game known to man. It’s a lot stronger than what we have. Because we do not have many people that support the fighting game community.

"The Empire may have some of the best fighters, but that’s not what we are all about. We are also a promotional company that likes to host events for all types of genres. To try to bring the community together and not let them stay home and just rot. So right now we want to concentrate on the fighting game community and see if we can take it to the next level of gaming. Where people will come out and travel and get some game on with other fellow gamers."-JWONG

Good Shit Justin. But he did not think about the gas situation at all.

GGL-Unholy

It's really odd the whole timing on GGL focusing more on the fighter community.

I've been wanting us to do this for so long but it just didn't happen... little did I know Steve has been a member of our community for so long and happened to randomly contact me the same day we put the fighter community back under the scope.

I'm an old school professional gamer... won $20,000+ in prizes back in the day when the money wasn't there... competed internationally... was sponsered... but my roots are with fighting games... SF2, MK, Samurai Showdown, etc...

Seeing the fighter community get some love just feels so good.

Props to Justin and the people who are still out there doing their thing - sticking with a pure community and playing the games you love.

I hope our communities have a nice, long, fruitful relationship and GGL can help build on what you all have created over the last 10+ years.

Peace!

I remember playin against Justin waaaay back when I dont think he was famous yet. Back in chinatown fair when MvC2 was less than a month old. Usually before they find all the exploits and craziness I do good and wed trade rounds occasionally.
Wed laugh at a friend of hours cuz he looked a lil like em and called em his lil bro.
Times have changed.
He did always comment to me about stop using Colossus...

Justin Wong is humble? When I met him he was an arrogant dick. Just because someone isn't on your level of skill, that's no reason to look down on him. Or at least that is what my parents and sifu once told me. I met him at the last Midwest Championship, btw. Oh and I wasn't the only one who was hating on Justin there. Actually, funny story, when they had the CVS2 tourney, no one was really watching unil VGO almost beat Justin. It got mad crowded then. But when VGO lost, and the last round was Justin X Ricky, everyone just sort of left, as though the tournament became completely uninteresting.

I used to go to cf thinking that i was good in a certain amount of games. i played to this guy and lost to him really bad in mvc2. came back a week later lost in mvc and anything else i played the guy in. it was fun though and he was always cool about it. i was learning how to play in retrospect

People hate on his Chun because it's boring to watch. Nuki's the best Chun in the world and he doesn't turtle.

yes nukis chun is probably one of the best but justin's chun somehow came close twice to getting Daigo elim'd at evo. watch the full match vid.

one is when justin gets baited into full parry ownage, the 2nd is when he gets baited into daigo's crossover (not much justin could have done though he was pretty agressive at that one moment and daigo knew that so his crossover could have connected and if justin blocked, daigo had alot of options from there).

now watch nuki vs daigo. nuki is lethal and puts alot of pressure but never had daigo in an elim game.

my point here is nukis chun is overall better and more lethal and id rather go aganist jwong than nuki in a tourney but both playstyles are very different and one had better results aganist daigo. ppl need to give mr.wong some props. :wgrin:

That was from 2 years ago. Since last year Nuki started winning everything.

Justin hasn't beaten Daigo in a tournament yet as far as I know. I'd love to see Deshiken vs Justin since they have completely opposite styles, and Deshiken is the best Ken in my opinion

i used to hate justin's startegy of using turtle characters for every game he played, but that kind of conservative style is something i use whenever i play any game. great read. i'll root for justin against the japanese players.

I guess it just depends on your own style of play, I mean if you're gonna start calling it cheap..... Sure he turtles in 3S but he doesn't win, in reality shouldn't you hate the winners style more?
