Did anybody else get caught by this update...?

Basically it's just an update telling you that you're windows cd key isn't real and that you should get it fixed.... I'm a little worried about this cause I dont want to get something in the mail along the lines of "aye man you stealing our stuff? here's a 2000 dollar fine"

So, I'm torn along the lines of getting a real windows key(blah) or waiting for vista... On that note, does anybody know when vista is supposed to be coming out?

Public beta was leaked but the official beta release is sometime this week anyways. Vista itself is early 07 apparently.

Just find the Update crack, make your life easier.

Simply google a file called "legitcheckcontrol.dll" making sure it's the latest version (*sigh* version 1.5.0530.0) and paste it into your windows/system32 folder. This must be done AFTER you visit the windows update site (for WGA validation) or receive the WGA notification update via automatic updates. Once you replace the .dll file, visit the update site, and LIKE MAGIC bill gates will congratulate you for paying for a piece-of-shit operating system, and you will be able to update as per normal. :nunchuck:

I installed it, tried removing it and my compuer wouldn't start anymore. Reformatted and vowed to never use EXPRESS UPDATE again.

To see if Vista works on your system, Microsoft has a program you can download and run, and it will tell you if you can run various packages of vista.

Click upgrade advisor beta and download and install it.

My piece of shit integrated graphics card can't handle anything but core which means no Aero or even media center. I have no PCI-E or even AGP slot to upgrade. I have been fucked.

Will we have to keep updating this DLL as new Windows updates are released? I'd assume yes, but thought i'd ask anyway.

Windows released something in the last update that makes sure you're running a legit copy of Windows, if you're not, it'll nag you. The OP wanted to make sure MS wasn't going to sue him, and Mr_Punkus brought us all salvation through a DLL hack.

Run it on virtualmachine + partition to have a dual system boot. And yeah, 5384 is the latest considering that it'll be the official public rls sometime this week.

Just to keep w/the whole Vista rubbish, Office 12 beta is out too, should be able to grab it off the MS site

M$ have updated the legitcontrolcheck yet again, (currently @ version 1.5.0532) you'll need a newer one to d/l stuff like IE7, WMP11, defender etc. I have the new crack, and I was just informed that I have a "genuine" version of windows, and have the "privilege" of d/l'ing genuine-only software like IE7 beta 2 etc. Dumb bastards. :rofl:

So, the same DLL as before? I went the easy way out and as soon as the "wait" screen came up I just made a Sysrestore and turned the updates off.
