hey guys, i'm taking summer classes in lexington at UK until august 3rd, then i'm coming home to northern KY for a couple of weeks to work until august 17th (thursday) or somewhere around there. but i'd be game to drive up to c-bus and hang out and get some 3S games in if you guys are game. fugi, i'm sure you need all the 3S experience you can get for evo if you're still going.

to the other c-bus guys, cvs2 is my main game, and i play 3S on the side (i know how to play mvc2, but i'm not a huge fan of it).

Gameworks is pretty shitty when it comes 2 fighting games. Trust me, I know. I work in the Gameworks down in Newport/Cincinnati & I've been 2 the Columbus/Easton venue a few times. At Newport, they only have Tekken 5 (5.0) & Virtua Fighter 4. At Easton they only have Tekken 5 (5.1) & a shitty virtual reality fighting game of Tekken 3 that doesn't work that well. That's all I know that is up there in Easton (it's been 6 months since I was last up there).

Hopefully that's helped you out some. Gameworks is shitty for fighting games, so it's not a good bet 2 go there 4 them. Catchya later bro.

Cinemark Movies 16 Gahanna: Marvel Vs. Capcom 1 (tiny cabinet)
A few other movie theaters: Soul Calibur II

Man our scene really needs to come up in 3s. After seeing how advanced the MD/VA guys are now, I think it's possible for that shit to happen all over the place if people want it to happen. Also people who play any videogames competively (tekken, mvc2, cvs, sf, 3rd strike, blah blah) in columbus who go to OSU let me know by emailing me at (Spearl236@gmail.com) because I want to the start Ohio State Computer Gaming League (or a like organization) back up. Its an osu student organization for gaming that i think died a little while ago. I need atleast 5 osu students (the rest can be non osu students) so the group can get funding from the university. If i can get the group going we can use campus facilities for cheap or free and get money from the university to buy systems, food, advertising and such. I really want to start a bigger videogame comminuty here because osu has 50,000 people most between the ages of 18 and 24 and it seems most people entering the tournies in columbus are from outside columbus . I want to atleast create a network of the people who game in columbus by advertising around campus and the city and do gaming nights in osu facilities. Hopefully eventually host a tourny.

i know that i should advertise on campus. I just wanted to hopefully find some osu people on here try to form the core group of atleast 5 students we need to get the university club going and then start advertising on campus. Cause I wanted to have an officail club together and then advertise a game night and build from there. I dont people would trust a flyer saying "Hey im some random guy who like games and I want to network, email or call me". Having the club makes things look more legitimate and people would be likely to contact and join a group. I am an OSU student and i think osugreg is and I maybe could get moses (but he is so bust now a days i dont know if he has the time to go to the one meeting that is needed to start the group and it seems like he stopped playing games atleast for the moment to focus on school) so thats atleast 2 of the 5 so far that are on srk.

If you're a truly good player, looking for tough comp, don't check "Pocket Change" in the dayton mall. Aside from the main competition, which is getting past the shitty sticks, there's really no human comp. Everyone there plays the lowest of the low tiers (they dig T.Bonne corner-throw combos and Omega Red) and they whine about anyone who plays anything remotely top tier, from Doom to Storm. They have absolutely zero interest devoloping a deeper knowledge of the game. Most of this attitude comes from a guy up there named TK. The unfortunate fact is this: He's an employee, so he's there ALL THE TIME.

He thinks he's the absolute shit, and he's got that right, but the wrong intention. It's so annoying you want to cry.

He harrasses customers (He's always playing, never works/answers phones/assists customers). He'll do things like: Restart the machine as you're about to perfect him in front of a crowd; whine "Cheese" everytime you use routine combos/strategy. The only time he's not annoying is when... well, never. The only thing that's fair is when he wins, which is... again, never.

Don't get me wrong, there are a couple (Literally) cool people who hang there, who will ask questions and TRY to improve their game and WANT to get better, but they're so handicapped from playing there and the crippled scene that they probably never will (get better). The only guy (That I know of) who plays there of decent skill is Chris Rose (who's probably better than I), but I rarely, if never, see him there anymore. He's been kicked out of 2 tournaments for winning (by TK, who always seems to win, despite being eliminated the quickest).

Avoid it like the plague if you're looking for comp. I can't stress that enough. But, if you want to meet up there some weekend and bring some friends, send me a PM and I'll go. But as I said, the sticks are shitty, so don't expect to be able to play at your usual level.

Unless you're like 10 levels above your opponent, beating normal teams w/ random low tier just doesn't happen outside of maybe 1/10 matches. When you're random you think you're on the level w/ everyone else or better players than you are "cheesy" or lucky. If you care about the game at all, it's a waste of time to only play low tier because of how Marvel is designed. There's like three low-tier players in the country at tourney level. Mags/Storm/Sent make the game fun anyway, lol.

Look, I didn't ask for drama. Everything I said is pure, unobjectable fact. I was just trying to save someone a lot of gas money and hope for nothing. If you're a truly good player, or want to be, there's nothing for you at Pocket Change... And TK's not even a blip on my radar. He runs shit. As a matter of fact, he refuses to play me anymore, ESPECIALLY when anyone else who holds his bullshit in reverence is around. TK has about as much skill as a toothing toddler, and the mentality to match. I mean, c'mon, I perfected him on those busted sticks that he plays on every day and I've played on... maybe a dozen times.

Gabby is decent, and don't get me wrong, I said there were a couple of decent players there, and by couple, that's almost literal. The attitude in that place is all wrong and the crowd is more concerned with running out anybody with good knowledge of the game instead of learning from it.

I'm not cranky, at all, so don't psychoanalyze me. Who are you, anyway? I'm Richard, btw... Let's cut the anonymity. As long as TK is the benchmark for that place, the level of comp will always stay the same. If people there insist on sticking with low tier characters, that's fine... but extend the same courtesy to those who want something more. You'll never see Nevermind in that place again, which is your loss.

And believe me, the machine reset DID (and probably still does) happen. I know of 3 accounts specifically and personally. 1 happened to be in the middle of a tournament and he shut it down because Chris Rose was dominating someone too hard. Two times it happened because he didn't like the team I picked. He beat my Doom/morrigan/Tbonne team with Blackheart/cable/capcom, so I picked team Row. So, instead of playing, he turned the machine off and gave me a token refund. Cable, or as he likes to call him, "Cheese" (because he can't figure him out) is only acceptable when he uses him.

The second time happened when I sat down, he saw the team I picked (Mag/Sent/Cyc), saw it was me sitting there, reset the machine and gave me free credits... I ended up having to play through arcade mode simply because nobody would play me.

That's pocket change for you.

It's a shame it's like that. Individually, I like almost everyone there, the Nicks are cool as hell. Gabby, Gavin, Todd etc... Those are the real players besides the already mentioned Chris. Pocket change is really just one person away from being a great place, but TK spoils it for everyone, and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. But nobody ever voices their dislike for his behavior. He has too many random people there who buys his crap and generate an unwelcome and irritating environment for the few people who want to play at a higher leve. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone, but again, I was just trying to save someone a 50 mile trip, a lot of gas money and hope for competition. Wow. I'm sure most everyone has seen the eruption of tournaments being held in Ohio. This overflow of competition seems to be about as random as the big boom theory. In case people havn't noticed, Ohio will be running 2 decent and 1 big tournament(s) in three months. I think that's about 3x as many as we had all of last year :).

I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Well, of course it's good, as long as attendance isn't spliced among all three. What do you guys think? I like it for the most part, I just don't know if they're spaced too close together.

Ghaleon: Is your $25 MM challenge to Nevermind to take place at the tournament I'm running sept. 8th or SBII... or does it matter? It was in my thread, but the talk has been more about SBII than my tournament, so I'm a little confused :)


EDIT: I made a thread about this, and all it got was a response from two people from IL (For some reason... go figure) and subsequently closed. But I think the question was valid, since many people are choosing not to participate in the tournament I'm running in order to go to SBII or the other Ohio tournament in Nov. and so forth, either way. That is the reason I asked if we were having too many tournaments too quickly(Ohio).

Three tournies' attendance won't hurt each other because barely anyone plays fighting games anymore, and the tournies are close enough (Cincy + C-bus areas) that most of OH + the usual travellers will show. Within weeks of each other would be too close -- one per month for three months here is kind of weird but should be fine.

I don't remember reading people saying they wouldn't go to yours and instead to SB or the Cincy one; if people don't go to yours it's more cos Hillsboro is a random location almost no one's been to :P I dunno how far you guys are from Dayton or Cincy, but close to a bigger city might be a better choice next time around.

VS isn't going anywhere. I play the games I deem worth it and nothing else. SFA2 is getting a scene again and that was the only SF I truly liked. Even the dark times when I played 3S I preferred SFA2. Sorry Sean, AHF is going in the rotation. I've gotten tired of not getting comp in anything. AH is popular in TX and it doesn't make me puke in disgust(CVS2), bore me to tears(3S) or create a severe case of apathy(I missed the boat in the MVC2 and GG and I just cant get myself up for it).

Of course if I end up hating AH that's another matter.

Chances are I wouldn't be able to. I have to plan things out at least a month in advance, and my schedule is pretty much set in stone right now. That's why I've only been able to attend tourneys in Ohio recently. I got the days off work for Ohayocon last month, just to give you an idea. But I'm not speaking for anyone here in Ohio. I'm not sure how their schedules are.

I've run into a little problem....

Me and a few other guys were planning on going to MWC the weekend after next. The two guys that do all the traveling and travel planning aren't going anymore, due to financial problems. That just leaves me and my other friend who don't travel as much and don't have any experience planning for traveling to tourneys.

Sooooo.....I was wondering if there was anyone coming through Columbus who was going to MWC that could give me and my friend a ride there, and wiling to let us stay at the hotel with them. We are more than willing to pay our shares for gas and a hotel room. Also, we can also get our own hotel room if need be. If anyone is able to help us out, just PM me, and we'll take it from there.
