SRK has quite a few posters in the military... I'm in the Army as well as Slide, Saotome Kaneda is a Marine, Rotendo is also a Marine, IIRC... a lot of people.

I'm in the Kuni' right now. Welcome to the our small band of brothers, devil dog. Don't know what kind of shape you're in, but make sure you run (probably three to five miles), do pushups or pull-ups and situps or crunches. It will help you for the PFT. Also, if you're kick-ass, they'll usually promote to squad leader or something. Also, try to be loud.

Here I'll help you out with some vocab. All the other recruits will be in awe of you. :

squared away = tip top, i.e. excellent

Devil Dog is a nicknamed given to the Marines by German combatants during WWI because of their fierce bad-asseth ness.

Chow = lunch, breakfast dinner.

Chow Hall or Mess Hall = Military Cafeteria

High and Tight = the crooked fade a lot of the Marines of the caucasian persuasan will rock.

Cammies = Combat Utilities

Side Straddle Hop = Jumping Jacks

Err = a motivated reply or acknowledgement

Hoo-Rah = another motivated reply or acknowledgement ( a lot of people don't know the origin of the word)

Skuttle Butt = Rumors or water fountain

Lance Cpl. Network = the all knowing information network created by E-3s. If you want to know what's really going on, you'll go here.

Barracks Whore = a female who gets passed around by a bunch of males in the barracks (can be a WM, sailor, soldier or civilian).

WM = Woman Marine (or Female Marine)

Jarhead = another nickname for Marines.

Smokey Bear = the hats the Drill Instructors wear.

Pogey Bay (spelling) = candy

The Head = the bathroom

Bulkhead = wall

Hatch = door

These should do for now

I ran for about a month or so before i went to basic, really helped me out (didn't have to do push ups or sit ups because i was already lifting weights in highschool and was pretty big.....that part was easy in basic).

Overall i had a blast in basic, the only think i didn't like was the gas chamber and the 15 mile road march from the woods back to the barracks which is the final objective then graduation a week later (i got picked to be a road guard and its something you dont want to do, seriously becaue your constantly running up ahead of the platoon to stop the cars etc...my legs was cramping so bad i couldn't even hardly walk anymore).

Not to mention the fact that it rained the night before the road march, imagine being in full battle dress with a 50pd rucksack....the rucksack felt like 100+pds because it was wet.

If anybody had their basic training at fort knox kentucky and seen the hills you did the road march will know exactly what i'm talking about.

Worst part about Navy basic, marching your ass around in fucking Feb on the shores of the great lakes outside Chicago, it's cold a FUCK... and of course you have to run around in next to nothing, and the snow makes it a bitch.

Yeah AF is full of assholes and asskissers (I have plenty of horror stories from Yokota, the management over there tried to ruin my career, no exaggeration). And quality of life is OK right now but they're slowly making the AF more Army-like. Plus with all the downsizing going on if you sneeze the wrong way you're getting kicked out. The fun ride is over, by the end of the decade the AF is just gonna be the Army, except more phoney and stuck-up and high-horse.

A lot of Liutenants are getting fucked over to for no reason at all. You go through all of that trouble to become an officer just to get kicked out? That's bullshit if you ask me. Or get rid of these bitter ass SNCOs and put some of these officers to work. I swear that RHIP shit gets on my nerves especially when it's not working for me.

There are a lot of different "military intelligence" positions in the US military, varying by service. Because American intelligence is highly reliant on spy planes and satellites, the Air Force does most of the military intel work, usually in conjunction with the various civilian agencies at home and abroad. In the US the best way to become an "intelligence officer" is to go to the Air Force academy, come out an officer, and follow it up with an advanced degree in aerospace/management stuff, which makes it really easy to get the cushy intel jobs.

Navy does a lot of spaced based intel gathering as well, in addition to just pulling signals while out in the middle of the ocean.

Really there are two types of intel. Your straight up intelligence core, and your signals/cryptography core. Depends on what you want to do.

I'm AF as well, and this person speaks the fucking truth. I've always admired the comradery shown by the Army and the Marines. I've been TDY a few times at a few overseas locations with Army/Marine troops coming through. They've always been amazed at how well our facilities are ran and what equipment we have available. They were even amazed at how we can call each other by our first names and not get chewed out for it. :rofl: Too bad they come through and tear shit up. I enjoyed the hell out of them, though. Sitting down and finding out where they come from/what they did before they joined.

Yeah AF is full of assholes and asskissers (I have plenty of horror stories from Yokota, the management over there tried to ruin my career, no exaggeration). OH LORD....I went TDY with a few Yokota people....I been told some of the stories; they WILL get you and try to fuck with you.

BTW, I'm Supply (and thank GOD I'm getting out next year).

(On becoming more Army-like) EXACTLY. People fail to see this, but it's pointed out daily, with all of the little rules and things that they keep changing and sneaking in. Hell, our new uniforms are just like the Armys.

Who you telling!!! I've been hearing rumors that the Airforce will end up going back to being the Armyair core again. I'll be damned if I'm going to stick around for that change. Man i actually used force shaping to my advantage...

I was a loadmaster for the 7ALS in Tacoma washington...

I hated my situation and actually ,with my 1st shirts help, got kicked out..

I had managed to get myself a DUI...

It was my first time in trouble and i was actually a good student...

Then SOMEHOW *you can't keep secrets in the AF* my shirt found out i failed my 5- level job quiz on purpose... I forget what those tests were called...

Anyway to make a long story short i really got kicked out over 2 failed room inspections, defacing my id card, and the DUI...

General under honorable conditions...

Good thing i amassed over 40 days of leave in 2years... and got some dough...

Hehe... I went AWOL for both my christmas breaks and didn't get caught... I had to use some mastermind skills on those NCO's... :badboy:

I'll be heading to Kadena after I graduate down here. Anyone tell me what the weather is like in Okie? I'm tired of this hot, humid BS down here at Eglin..

Well boy did you ever pick the wrong place. Hey Satome, there never were any really good strip clubs to go to. At least not while I was there (99-01). But I can say this, the girls are really friendly all over. I was dating a travel agent while I was there. I'm not the type of guy to use a girl. But she bought me all kind of stuff for no reason. I guess she felt she had to. But she was foine as hell and giving up the tang, so I was happy. One thing I can say about Okinawa, it has some of the most beautiful scenic areas. I liked being able to go to a diferent secluded beach away from the other military folks. Sadly though, there aren't any beaches here in main land. The ones that they do have... the waters green.:wasted:

oog there getting ready to drop 40k out of the AF next year. Time to get some classes in while there free!
Damn that's scary, I thought the military was the last place that you'd have to worry about layoffs but I thought wrong..

I haven't been to Kadena since July 04. I do plan to make a trip back there soon. I'm just chilling over here in mainland right now. By the way, you people in Okinawa should make sure you see "The Banana show" and perform on the stage at "The Stage" while your there.:bgrin:

*ONEZ*They still do the "Banana Show"!? :wow: They were doing that when I was stationed @ MCAS Futima back in the 90's (probably the same girls as well).

It was probably more fun when I was stationed there. We could go off base in civilian clothes (can't do that anymore).

Going to White Beach was a cool hangout spot & Naha was a great place to shop.

Also, there's that area in MCAS Futima around the MARS Station that had the greatest sunsets I've ever seen.

Damn! Now you got me reminisencing about my past tour of Okinawa. It ain't the greatest place in the world, but for some unknown reason, I had a lot of fun there & I do miss it.
