wow. welcome to the new TN thread i guess (not liking the title). i'am jonah, i'm originally from tampa fl. We have a decent amount of marvel heads here. Our main marvel players are derrick, jay and a couple others. I just sit out and observe =). Then we have eugene and TAZ who comes to the neck of the woods (FF). TAZ/eugene is our worst nightmare here in TN. TAZ and eugene just play's us for practice. They help us step our games up here. Such beasts they are =(

What up everybody. And yeah, TN does have game. Not just Eugene, but Derrick, and Jonah in memphis are solid, but I still have to say that right now Eugene is the best, and he consistently beats me on a regular basis. Every time we play the score is like 50-35. So he's the best in TN, and Im the best in KY for now(I plan on moving back to TN sometime down the line).

As for EVO, looks like a no go. Shit is just rough now. Basically Im makin money to pay bills, which sucks ass. But if my mom can get this job at Vanderbilt University (SEC babay! for u college football heads), I might be able to go to EVO. With that said I've had like 10 people wanting to know if Im going. My Ohio peeps, of course my Cali peeps, I got peoples that aren't going to go unless I do, but its all at a standstill till my mom knows if she gets this job. I keep in touch.

throw into tron XXany other combo works too, just gotta time the rings with the throw, 70% average dmg nice corner position when u use his kick super.

corner randomness launch+tron sj fp, lp bite, if you time the attacks in the air right and ur assist right on the way up, instant ground grab is easy, combo back into tron into bnb for death combo....all yo powa?

His strong point is throws mostly, Its hard to go on offense sinces mostly defense.

He even has a guard break ,I forgot to do that:sweat:
-He also stops CapCom.
Against Sent ,you can snapback full-screen if he throws the drones,it will even hit after a knockdown..

Well on that vid in the begining, it says all combos done by Magnetro, and no game shark was used. When he said that, I assumed no cheating but if programming was used, I'd consider that cheating. Never the less, its still tight as fuck, and those combos and mixups are possible. There just nearly impossible to pull off.

Yeah you're right, it is Basic Instrucions, I didn't see that he had Biblical, and yes it is from killah priest. Couldn't remember if it was from him or GZA. And I just assmued he liked Wu-Tang, since Priest and GZA are affiliated with Wu. Damn I fuckin lost that CD. Killah Priest is a real Emcee. Im a little suprised u know about him. U like any other Wu-Tang artists, or albums?

CPS: U comin to Tennessee or somethin?? What part? Turnouts for tournaments arent as high as Cali (I used to live in San Diego), but they have good gamers here. Just not enough, and they're spread all throughout the entire state. The best source of competition is probably in Memphis though. They have the states best Tekken player, and thats what they mainly play. Matter a fact, thery're having a tournament in Mempis Oct 14th. There are only a handful of Marvel and GGXX players. The best player in Marvel resides in Nashville, but mainly Tennessee is a Tekken state. When are u coming and what games do u play?

Hey all, I was in TN last year around this time. Just thought I would let anyone that cares know I am moving to TN next year sometime, specifically in the area of Nashville. I plan on opening an arcade/game store, which might take a little while (a year or so since I am going to start small with a flea market) and try and bring a bit more tournament life to the area. What I really need is some input:

What does everyone really play out in TN? From what I understand, it's mostly Guilty Gear, Marvel, then 3rd Strike in that order?

In terms of arcades with the best competition, is it ONLY Snooker's in Antioch?

I'm probably going to have a LOT of free time on my hands, and may even opt to get a retail location up and running sooner with hybrid console/arcade stations, but I would really like some input from the players, and to see if there really is a market/scene out here.

DreamTR, your gonna find it really hard to play people in Nashville. Out here its not like u can go to an arcade and play 20 or more people, day in and day out. You'll be lucky to play 10 people, and u probably know this. But they'll be scrubs and stop playing after you whoop their ass anyway. Its all about who u know. Forget arcade, you'll be calling people, going online and setting up dates and times on when ya'll can play, cause those are the only good players. And even with that, those players may not have as much time to play as u would like. Nashville is just not a good gaming scene. You have like 3 - 6 harcore gamers, in a handful of games, and they're all spread out in the middle Tennessee area. If your a passionate gamer, Nashville is a nightmare. You want to be in a hot bed of gamers, and the best place in Tennessee is #1 Memphis, or #2 Knoxville. Oh and prepare to do some traveling, cause the Nashville gamers don't provide that elite competition. Memphis and Knoxville do, both about 3 hrs or more away. But if you really want some competition, take a drive down to ATL(Atlanta). They have very good players and can give u comp in all games. ATL is about 4hrs, or a little more, away. Thats just been my experience bro. I used to live in San Diego, and played against great competition all the time. Quite a different experience in Nashville.

taz is right about things being spread out. but i'm sure lots of people will come play though for tekken. tekken is huge in tn.

I think if you had a good venue there could be a major happen once or twice a year! esp b/c you have the machines and resources :)

Well, it's official, I'll be moving out to Tennessee the first week of May 2007.

My girlfriend is heading out the first week of February, and the house hunting will begin.

300lb Eugene: Snookers has CVS2? Did they have that last time I was in town? As long as some people are around to play 3s/CVS2, I am down with that over at Snooker's temporarily until I get my cabinets set up at home.

The retail store might take around a year unless I have an influx of cash coming in. Best thing I can do is throw weekly tournaments, and have winners at the end of each month overall get things such as an XBOX 360 or PS3.

Sdouble: Well, set me up with ST with him when I get into town, is he closer to Atlanta or Nashville?

Taz: I played a lot of the Atlanta players back in the days for ST, but have not played with them since. I recall Atlanta being THE place for Tekken comp in the USA, and back in the day, there were high up on MK as well, but I am not sure about the rest. Since the days of xcopying videos, anyone with a joystick that plays at home can become pretty effective these days it seems =P

Which brings me to this...I'm going to support and have as many tournaments as possible, arcade/console, but I seriously can NOT play well on console. I've tried and tried, but having to tightly hold a stick to avoid it from moving, even if it is on a stand is just too much when you are used to knee jerk reactions and footsies on cabinets that NEVER budge in the arcade. I have ONE solution to that (CIgarBob arcade cabinet) that I can utilize, but I can't do the console much otherwise =P SO I guess it's Snookers for me when I am in town....

Memphis and Knoxville scene, what do they play?

It is nice to see that there are more players here in middle TN. I think some of the problem is that we dont really advertise ourselves. I grew up in Columbia, TN with the likes of Alphakami--he is the one that turned me from a scrub to actually pretty decent. Then marriage/kids turned me from pretty decent to blah again, lol. WE have been playing for years, but we were pretty much limited to the local circle of players in the area. Little did we know that there was another in our same town....a machine by the name of Fraley. We never knew of his existence, but he was REALLY good. We never had the arcade scene here to foment that kind of matchmaking. NOw that we have SRK, it is a lot easier to see who else is playing what in the area. It isnt like ATL or SF or one of the big cities, but every bit of help is great:)

Middle TN is a great area to live. I live in Lebanon, and it is 20 miles east of Nashville. It isnt too crowded, and the rate of living is pretty fair. Since Nashville os pretty close, you wont really miss much. Tournaments would be pretty good. Maybe some of the people in the midstate area will come out of their hiding spots and support the local scene:) What kind of tournies do you plan on throwing? I mean, game selection, that is. Wouldnt mind seeing Vampire Savior, but that is more of a crack dream:(

I can essentially support whatever the players want to a point. I have enough arcade boards for this sort of thing, but if we want a true arcade tournament, it would have to be either a retail location (which will take me awhile) or my garage, which depends on what kind of house we get may or may not fit everyone. At the very least, that will bring more people for console and still not take away from the arcade aspect as much.

I know everyone is moving towards console, but it really is a higher definition and degree of skill than arcade. If everyone wanted to "be like Japan" (yes, I am going off on a tangent here) we would toss the console thing aside and just play what they want for SBO.

In any event, first tournament I was thinking:

ST Arcade
A3 Anthology (console)
Guilty Gear X2 Reload (console, and because the other games never came out in the usa yet)
MVC2 Dreamcast (Console)
3rd Strike Arcade

and whatever anyone else suggests, but it might take me a bit to set everything up when I move in.

Plus there is something about a arcade machine that just wraps me up in the game more and plus it is very sturdy too, my stick moves on me alot when i play on console and i miss some qcf motions that i should never miss.

There is a large NC tournament coming up in Goldsburo. The event itself is called the G2Expo.

The event encompasses many aveunes of gaming. During the day, there will be many, MANY stations for both CASUAL and tournament play.

I dunno about Tekken, might be tougher for me, I don't know much about the game. I don't play a ton at games to become proficient at them, I just try to find a few things that work and exploit them and make up my own stuff. You'll notice that when you play me, I'll come up with some stupid stuff, but it's not combo oriented.....

I like to come up with my own stuff too, I think it keeps it more interesting than just whoring the best strategy. It makes your game more random and since you came up with the stuff you know exactly what it does. I have weird poke strings with urien. They don't combo together but it's random and until you figure it out it will be annoying lol. but hopefully i'll change it up before then :) if i'm smart.


But at the same time the best strategy is that for a reason..but you can't always do that as you will become predictable.

I live in Columbia, and LVL32 Rose and I played together for about 5 years. I'm still playing competitively, mostly GGXX/ but I stay sharp and play CVS2, 3S, ST, MVC2 (casually). I play most all 2D fighters pretty well. I'm decent at SNK games (better at Showdown than Kof) and play alot of fuckin' strange other games (Psychic Force, Tobal 2 (hardcore), Destrega, Advanced VG, ect.)

Mid-TN has kinda got a Guilty Gear scene going now. www.tenkaigear.com and we partner and play with 7 players from Kentucky, and myself and 3 others from Columbia, and one that lives in Augusta GA, but is still and will forever be reppin' Columbia. We are a farily large group, and we do play alot. All of us still play Capcom games often, but our main focus is on GG.

Scott- Great meeting you man, you are cool as hell. We definately gotta start playing more. Solid 3S, you'll be beasting me soon.

L32Rose - we really should stay in touch a bit more. Fraley is home right now, so you should see about coming down sometime this week if you can.

DreamTR - I actually knew your name from CVS2 on Xbox Live. I didn't have it, but I played it at a scrubby friends house. I definately consider you a legendary player and I really look forward to meeting you. I play a wide range, but I'm best at GG and ST. I don't have a cab anymore. I'm pretty much all console now, but I refuse to play console without MY stick. I play so much better on it than at a cabinet, but I do have my roots as well. As long as it's like my stick, I can play very well on a cabinet. (I used to own a Capcom Q-sound cab and a ton of boards) Oh, I've still got my supergun, tho it'll need some work to get it set-up.

The Tekken tournament was cool,even though I got thrashed, it was fun. I'm glad I made this tourney, I met a bunch of cool people up there. I didn't stay for the finals, but I think Lil Majin won it, since he was undefeated when I was leaving. The Soul Calibur tourney was tight too, even though there were only eight people,but Andrew's Cervantes was kicking ass the whole tourney, no one could hang, He didn't lose a single set. I hope the next tourney could hold a KOF or Street Fighter tourney,but I think not too many people would be interested in a tourney like those, but it worth a try. I definitely will be at the tourney in june, but I most definitely have to step up my game big time if I expect to beat any of those cats up at fun fair, especially in Tekken, 'cause I got totally embarassed. Til the next tourney, that's how I roll. Later.:cool:
