just wanted to know something

i received money through paypal on two separate occasions this week, and those were the first two instances i've received money there...on one occasion, everything went smoothly and the money was immediately deposited in my account...

but on the other occasion, i was given an option to either accept or deny the payment...but if i was to accept, i'd have to upgrade my account to a premier/business account, and that i'd be charged a fee every time i received funds...

so why did i not get charged a fee the first time? i just left the second payment alone for now (did not accept or deny) until i find out more about this....

I believe it has something to do with how the person paid you.

You can recieve payments from bank accounts no problem.

But, in order to recieve credit card payments, you must get the business account.

Sad, but if you want to keep selling stuff, it's something you have to deal with.

Usually, ebay sellers factor in the fees they expect to pay in the shipping charges....

The fees you have to pay come out of the payment you get, and it's usually only about 1.50 for every 50 you get....

Yeah if you want to accept Creditcards you have to upgrade to a Premier or Business Account.(A premier account is fine for you)

Despite the fee, YES you do want to do this because the majority of people pay with their credit card and you will get more sales this way. Of course this also opens you up to the world of creditcard chargebacks when dealing with buyer fraud, so make sure you try and follow all of paypal's seller protection policy guidelines so that if you're lucky they can reimburse you.

they are right, its credit card payment. i always deny and ask them to send from there paypal account or debit card card. It takes 3-4 business days to transfer money into your account, but its worth avoiding that fee.

Is it also worth having your account suspended and your auctions pulled?

Soul Survivor: If you are going to sell a lot using paypal, you should upgrade. If you use paypal, you have to accept all forms of it.

A lot of people have problems with this. I'm an avid seller and I just decided to take the all credit card payments route. It's less hassle and you get your money (with fees). Some have just refused to do it (pay me the non fee way), etc... and transactions have gone bad because of that.

Just a Tip: DO NOT DO E-CHECKS in any way, shape, or form.

Because it's a TOS violation. As of the beginning of this year, I think, you cannot choose one form of paypal over another.

You've just been lucky and had moron buyers who don't know the rules. Sooner or later you'll get someone who knows whats what and they will report you.

And putting in your auction that you don't follow policy is really not a great idea. Someone may report you anyway for shits and giggles.

i dont understand what you mean that i cant choose one form? Upgrading your paypal account is not mandatory, its a choice. If I don't want to upgrade, then I dont have to, and people still must pay me the way I tell them to, its not there choice.

Wrong.

You cannot tell buyers that you accept one form of paypal only. If you accept paypal, you must accept all forms of paypal.

Yes, it is a choice. One that you have until a buyer wants to use a credit card. If you refuse to accept it, they can report you for non-selling seller or whatever, and the consequences fall on you.

Sellers who offer PayPal as a payment option on eBay (either using logos or text in the item description) must accept all forms of PayPal payment including account balance, bank account transfer, and credit cards. Sellers must have a Premier or Business PayPal Account or be willing to upgrade from a Personal PayPal Account to a Premier or Business Account if sellers receive a credit card payment. Sellers may not communicate to buyers that they accept, or will not accept, specific forms of PayPal payment.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

Listing cancellation

Forfeiture of eBay fees on cancelled listings

Limits on account privileges

Loss of PowerSeller status

Account suspension

There it is, in blue and white. Like I said earlier, you have been lucky and haven't come across a buyer yet who knows policy and will force you to play his way. Once you get a savy buyer who wants to use a credit card, you have no choice unless you don't give a fuck about your account.

i have another question

is your paypal balance completely separate from your credit card balance? let's say i made two separate payments on paypal of $20 each, then someone paid me $50....so my paypal balance would be $10....

would the $10 be the same as taking off $10 from my current credit card balance?

i believe you paid $40 from your CC, then that $50 goes either into your paypal account or your CC account. I believe they are seperate. If it did go to your PP account, you may transfer it to your CC account. IIRC, they are completely seperate accounts, but just linked together.

not 100%

A big FU to Paypal!!!!!!!

If you accept Paypal on ebay, you must also accept CC payments made by Paypal. Yes, that means you must upgrade to a premier account and pay fees on every payment you receive. Under this policy, ebay/Paypal is claiming to eliminate confusion for buyers, but I think it's just another way of Paypal to get more money.

Always pay your transactions with a CC, that way when someone screws you over, just initiate a chargeback on their arse! Paypal will always give you BS in trying to get any money back. Sucks arse to the sellers that accept CCs and aren't covered under Paypal's Seller's Protecion Plan. Paypal must be losing money everytime one of their seller's under the SPP gets a chargeback.

Paypal works great when everything runs smoothly, but of course this isn't true.

cheap asses. the fee really only comes into play when you're dealing with big money transactions. if you sell a video game for $35 you'd be an idiot to get sad over the $1 you'd lose to the fee.

Just a Tip: DO NOT DO E-CHECKS in any way, shape, or form.

another tip: ONLY ACCEPT PAYMENTS FROM USERS WITH CONFIRMED ADDRESSES.

The fee is inflated. It's an electronic agent only helping you get your money to the other person or collect money from someone else. Their security isn't that grand and its actual labor is minimal. Anything over $.50 is ridiculous.
