View Full Version : My computer has a virus/worm

Sorry, I have to keep this message brief because otherwise my computer will become too bogged down to do anything.
Anyways, I get back from Detroit and my computer has been on the fritz now, my younger brother was using it. Anyways, long story short I get millions of Sysmantec messages popping up saying that messages are trying to send but they can't to random e-mail addresses I've never heard. There's also a billion other sysmantec popups saying they're scanning messages, etc. On top of that there are messages (Sysmantec, again) saying that certain programs are attempting access into my connection.
Is anyone here knowledgable on what kind of worm this is or the best way to remove it?

try using one of the free online virus scanners. I always use antivirus.com even though i have mcafee installed.

I'll save you Iren.
First, just try to do a restore, like Neosyphen suggested. Take it back a few days. If that doesn't work then do this:
Right-Click My Computer -> Properties -> System Restore Tab, Turn off System Restore.
Download Ccleaner (www.download.com)
Run Cleaner
Download AVG (www.grisoft.com)
Update Scanner
Download Ewido (www.ewido.com)
Update Scanner
Download Spyware Blaster (www.download.com)
Update, and Enable Protection
Download Spybot (www.download.com)
Update, then Run the Immunization
Download Ad-Aware (www.download.com)
Update Definitions
Download Spy Sweeper (www.download.com)
Update Definitions
Restart in Safe Mode
Run Ewido, AVG, then Spybot, Spy Sweeper, Ad-Aware. Restart in normal mode.
Run the free online Virus Scanner at www.trendmicro.com
If you're still having trouble, download Hijackthis (www.download.com) and post a Hijackthis log here.
Don't forget to turn System Restore back on when you're fixed.

You're wasting your fucking time; go to post #5 DONE.
trust me, we don't put up with this sort of shit @ work because of customer/people being idiots for not backing up their shit and letting others toy around with their rig knowing that others might use it. I'm sure you've heard of password protecting accounts and/or how to remove passwords. once uve cleaned up ur mess, reload all ur software, buy spy sweeper and NAV, run all updates, win updates, DL mozilla, opera and get the adblock plug in for firefox and ur set. none of this aforementioned posting hijack this logs; go elsewhere for that crap

There are way too many different viruses and worms out there for anyone to identify what particular virus or worm you've got. Also, I would say that if you're worried about your computer getting too overloaded to use just for the duration of typing up your post, then I would say that trying to download and install new software would probably be more of a pain than it's worth right now, too. I have to agree with the people who said to just use System Restore and be done with it.
After you use System Restore, then I would look into getting some of the security programs already listed to help you out should you have any problems in the future.

Put up with what? Viruses? What does you being at work hating things have to do with Iren's virus trouble?
I'm sure you've heard of password protecting accounts and/or how to remove passwords.
What? How does this apply to anything?
"I just got into investing in the stock market and I'm looking for some tips."
"I'm sure you've heard of global warming and/or the affects on global temperatures."
Thanks.

You have a virus? REFORMAT! Useful advice! The thought has never crossed Iren's mind, I'm sure.

System Restore really doesnt help, viruses n trojans are still in the computer. What you do is turn System Restore off, so it deletes everything like some temp files. Download some of the software soup of men recommended, update them and restart in safe mode and use them. I use CC cleaner, avg, ad-ware, and windows defender whenver I have to clean up friends computers from viruses/spyware
