Which fighting game does everybody love that you secretly hate?

I'll start at the risk of getting lit on fire:

SS2T. Ok, i'm sure it's the most balanced SF2 there is. And yes, there is akuma and the long-awaited super moves SNK had spoiled us with. BUT..what's with the speed increase??? I mean, I liked the one in SF2CE, it seemed like a natural progression. And Super Street fighter 2 felt fine too. But ST was just way too fast. It deemphasized strategic thinking in favor of instinct and twitch reflexes. Nothing wrong with those...but it's just not as much my thing. I'm glad they slowed things down for Alpha 3 and 3s.

Anyway...I don't really HATE any fighting game. Mainly because I haven't given much time to the Tekkens, the VFs, MVC2, MBAC and several others. I'm sure that, over time, I can come to hate those as well.

It's hard for me to say I hate any fighting game, since two lifebars with two guys duking it out underneath are what good videogames are made of. There are, however, several fighting games that I think are pretty underwhelming.

the DOA series
Smash Bros. (fun as hell at a party though, but played competitively, it blows)
the VF series after VF2
the Tekken series after T3
the MK series after UMK3

And although I used to really enjoy it, my opinion of the Soul Calibur series has gotten really jaundiced over time. Chalk it up to years of only playing against scrubs.

Street Fighter 2 ALL OF THEM

Street Fighter 2 was cool back in 1994,but the game is just far too dated for me now.

Even though Street Fighter:3 is closing in on it's 10th birthday,Street Fighter 3 has aged much better over the year's than Street fighter:2.The graphic's and mechanic's in Street Fighter:3 are great.Meanwhile they jump too damn fast in Street Fighter:2 and the music is just too nostalgic for me.

Guilty Gear's grapich's are the best out of 2-D fighter's right now,but the gameplay is boring IMO and the character's are too weird.

A few. I don't really HATE them, but I have my problems with them...

Tekken 5: For example, Tekken 5. I don't hate the game, in fact I find it a lot of fun (and am pretty decent at it nonetheless.) But everyone I talk to is absolutly crazy about it, and the critics love it. But I've honestly felt neither Tekken 4 or 5 can compare to Tekken 3/TAG in terms of atmosphere, playing style, looks, everything. I don't dislike Tekken 5, but I just can't believe its AS well liked as it is.

Street Fighter II: I never got this. I grew up with Mortal Kombat/MK II (which I know see were terrible games), and while I see all the innovation and depth in the SF II games, and that for the time (that is, pre King of Fighters) they were probably the best (well, except for Samurai Spirits) fighting games out there. But I don't see HOW people can play them today. My biggest complaints? The music, which is wonderfully composed, you can barely here much of the track cos it goes into that 'desperation' mode within 20s usually, and then restarts in the next match. The gameplay feels soooo slow; like the characters are floating in invisible molassas (which the Turbo option does NOT fix; its like saying if you put a tape of someone walking in fasst motion they'll start running... it doesn't work that way!) The stupid ass portraits of someone's face busted up after each match (What is up with that?) And yet since I'm forced to play it so often I just shut up and put with it (not to mention beat whoever I'm playing.)

Mortal Kombat/MK II: Well this isn't a secret from most people, but from my cousin, as we both grew up playing these games heavily. They're just SO simplistic and lack any depth. Maybe I'll bring that up next time I play time.

CvS2. A repetitive turtlefest in my eyes. I used to love it until after getting into 3s and MvC2 a little more and seeing that I can actually be creative for once and actually do something instead of sitting there blocking half the match and poking them all day waiting for a random activation or until their gaurd breaks. I'm probably the only person who thinks this but RC actually saves that game to me. If RC wasnt there I'd just be crouching in the corner getting owned by Cammy and Vega. And the game is so damn slow. I dont always have time to watch 5 characters slowly getting killed in a back and forth pokefest.

unfortunately it's the game thats getting the most comp where I'm at. Just my opinion. I cant hate any fighting game if it has a strong scene thats keeping fighting games strong. I even still play CvS2 casually every now and then, but if someone can hate 3s and marvel then I dont see whats so appealing about CvS2 if you compare them side by side.

I only find 3S really boring if it's high level American matches, or Chun-Li from anywhere. That is kind of a generalization, but J Makoto is fun to watch, as well as some others from SBO.

I do hate every Mortal Kombat game ever made. Steaming piles of bloody stool, all of them.

I hate all 3D incarnations of 2D games, KOF:MI, SF:EX, and any others that I may not have played or don't even know about, I'm sure the SamSho games were butt.

I love pretty much every other fighting game to varying degrees, but I never liked Fatal Fury. Foreground/background? Gimmick. Super floaty short range jumps? Ass. For that matter, I guess I don't like KOF 94-96 at all, I think 97 was the end of those stupid floaty jumps, I'm not sure. But yeah, those jumps ruin the games for me, I never even cared to learn to play them cuz of the stupid jumps. SamSho was where it was at until like KOF98 and Real Bout for me.

heh i play soul calibur and purposefully do not learn it seriously. its fun to mash against my friends. plus it means they still have a chance of beating me..

Alpha 3. The hitboxes on normal seem so fucking foreign to me, and CHs just emphasize it. That and I don't have the patience or execution to learn VCs.

Tekken 5.0/5.1/DR. Well, it's hard to say I hate it, because I've played it quite a bit, and for some reason it always seems like it's going to be fun before I play it, and then we actually start playing and i remember why I don't like it. I don't like the frame exe on jabs compared to the fastest mids, and evasion based soley on hitboxes should be phased out. VF4 proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt. It's way too variable/random/analog to be accurate. Tag I like quite a bit better, just because the evasion is more clearly defined, and there's no sidewalk nonsense (who came up with this mechanic?!), plus the game as a whole just feels more solid, and the Tag system/juggles are fun.

edit - 3S, for same reasons everyone else has. And SC...well, I used to hate on SC2, but then SC3 came out and man 2 is heaven comparatively. Actually, looking back on it, SC2 wasn't that bad...but surely there's many other games I would rather play.

You really haven't seen high level MVC1 play huh? As much as I like MVC1 it's really superbroken it makes MVC2 look like VF4 in terms of balance. Basically the entire game revolves around War Machine and Red Venom, with *maybe* a little Wolverine and Strider.

Until recently it was KOF and everything released after Virtua Fighter 2 came out. Now that I'm back in the scene, I'm going back and playing the old KOFs, Soul Caliburs, and Tekkens. I really like Tekken 5 and I just got into KOF 97.

I guess the only games I really really hate are SamShoV and KOF: Neowave. SSV is disappointing because of how it compares to the older games. I didn't like how it piecemealed the other games. Neowave might be the worst game that I've played in the series. Maybe it's because I play it alongside 95, 97, and 98. It just feels like a huge step backward when you watch the series get better and better in the late 90s.

There is not much left to discover in 3s..the more original the game the better..everything to discover in 3s has been discovered..to me that takes the fun out of the game..only a limited way to play everyone..I want more variation..interesting original totally different super technical characters like Angel/May Lee/Momoko/Vanessa/Kisarah, multiple Karacancels, multiple options to play characters, fast gameplay, multiple grooves...

3s doesnt give me all of this at all CVs2 falls short because of the speed...so they collect dust..being too slow also hurts it...when I play KOF, NGBC, NeoWave, everything SNK, 3s and Alpha are the slowest, but I like Alpha more than 3s...3s is just overhyped..and its super old..time to move on.

Street fighter 3rd strike is probably one of the best fighting engines to date. Its so like playin a game of chess....1 wrong move could cost you the game.....i was playin this weekend and it was like i kept grabbing and so did my opponent then it would cancel out and he would parry my jump kicks and i would the same.....then he jump and didnt kick but went in for the throw and i knew that so i did the same and it cancelled eachother......its a big mind game 3rd strike......but the big reason for the game so great is the parry system IMO. it makes it where ur opponent cant just keep attackin cause if he/she does then u can parry it....

yeah 3rd strike is old.....and yeah you seen the same ol mk super wit chun and the yuns and the urien people......but the thing about it is that people come back for the competition. But playin new games are fun as well....its just hard to find people playin games like neo geo battle colesium.....i mean how many can go to the arcade (besides New york) and see maybe 6-10 people playin it....or tourneys thrown in the game.

Yeah thats true but I feel like its their fault to not play it. They can't say I don't play 3s..I play like everything.

But many won't play it for XYZ reason.

I just get tired of doing the same shit..3s needs an upgrade or something..it'd be like if that girl you been fucking for 7 years died her hair a different color or brought in a threesome (Tag battle guys :rofl:) that would spice things up for a while..
Right now the ONLY reason I play 3s is because of the competition..

But I only play it like a day before a tournament or when my friends come over.other than that I play my SNK games to the tee.
