Instructions on how to listen to the show:

Use VLC (http://www.videolan.org) or Winamp (http://www.winamp.com). Simply insert http://www.alphaism.com:8000/listen.pls as the URL. (Link will only work when the show is actually live on the air)

Instructions how to participate in the show (you will need a microphone):

1) Download Skype (http://www.skype.com).

2) Install and add Benji-man01 as the contact via Tools.

3) Simply select Benji-man01 by right clicking the name on the Contact list, and select "Start Call".

4) -OR- You can call the show using your landline/cellphone. The phone number is 206.201.2498. Keep in mind outbound calls are not free, and costs money. However, inbound calls do not cost anything, so feel free to call in often as you want. If you would like to donate, Bunkei's paypal address is billing@e-z-hosting.net.

I clicked the 'listen' link on the page and it opened up a file called 'listen.pls' which defaulted to open up in a program called 'PowerDVD'. After that nothing happened.

Indeed, this radio show is only going to be good as the participants. To be honest, for the first couple of hours, I was extremely bored. Only Razor called in during the Marvel tip hour. So for the show to be fun and productive, I need more participation from the listeners. If you can't or don't want to call long distance, buy a cheap mic and download Skype (which is free)

I uploaded a two and a half hour recording of the show last night for download in the original post. Also, I'm starting the show @ 2 pm PST to do an interview with NorCal GG players. Once it's done, depending on how many listeners/participants, I'll continue the radio show throughout the night or I'll just turn it back off until about 6 pm PST/9 pm EST.

I just got a phonecall from Matt Kraft of TSNCentral.com; during the course of the conversation, he said that he is an avid fighting game fan and wants to feature my radio station on TSNCentral for fighting games, etc.

At first I thought this was a prank, but then he started talking to me about non-disclosure agreements as an employee of TSNCentral.com, and his name is listed on TSNCentral's staff (He also gave me his Skype name, which also bears his name) He says that there will be tons of exposure for FGC assuming he gets his boss to agree to it.

So tonight's discussion will be whether or not I should take up this offer. Mind you that this may not be all good news. Just like with real-life radio, as an employee the show can't be totally random and uncensored as it stands now. But, I'm willing to sacrifice that if it means more exposure for the fighting gaming community.

But what do YOU think? Tell me when AlphaISM radio begins at 6 pm PST tonight ......

To be honest, I didn't think to record that because a of few reasons:

1) The biggest turnout was obviously the Duc vs Sanford match, but when I got word that it was being recorded and will be uploaded like within a few days, I thought recording the the play-by-play would be superfluous

2) Since all the Evo results were going to be posted as soon as they're available, I thought that recording the show and then uploading it after the results were released would be anti-climactic.

3) I thought the best thing I could do is record the interviews of high profile players as soon as Evo concluded (in which I did, when I interviewed Alex Valle/Wolfe, Duc, Mike Ross, etc).

Last night was easily the best show ever.

I just listened to it, and I loved the whole USA vs Japan comparison.

Best thing said and needs to be reiterated "You're not gonna beat the japanese playing their game." (I.E. mimicking their style, tricks, combos, perfect execution/gameplay) One of the examples used were Nelson beating Daigo in AE using mixups, counters, etc, not flashy combos.

Another example I could think of is Combofiend beating some japanese players in cvs2.

I used Firefox, and have no problems. No one else has complained either, so it might be a problem unique to you :/

Well I tried again at 6am. I am able to download some of the files after a couple of tries, but the mydataus still drops at times before the entire file finishes (about half the time). It isn't aborting the DL it instead acts like the DL is finished even if the entire file isn't complete. Like stopping at 24 Megs when the file is actually 43 megs. It even says on the DL dialog box the correct file size.

This issue is only for the Mydataus links. The Megaupload links work just fine.

Nobody else here is having this issue?

BTW from what I can hear so far, I am liking this show alot. Thanks for all the effort Bunkei. Maybe one day I will be able to catch it live.

the drama brings the hype. The hype brings the people. Once the people are there all you have to do is market it.

Just like the shaq and kobe thing. It brought people to those games just to see those 2 collide. Last year early in the lakers season, they had record low attendance #'s. They sold out everytime it was kobe vs shaq. Everyone wanted to see the game because of the drama they had the previous year. The biggest money match happened to be east vs west. Again another form of drama.

drama\rivalry has been a staple point of marketing. People go to big sporting events to see there team win BUT most of the time its to heckle the other players. Drama is also big in NASCAR. Personally I think its just a redneck sport, but the drama makes it intresting. So people watch to see what will happen next. NASCAR is bigger in ratings than baseball I think.

or any big boxing \ ufc fight. They always put it a few months away. Yes a reason is to give the fighters time to train but its realy intent is to genenrate the neccessary hype to bring the people.

Ever see someone older try to play street fighter? they have to look at their hands to play. They just dont get it. Football, soccer, basketball, hockey or w\e are easier to games to understand because the rules are simpler. Essentially all those games are simple. Basketball, put the ball in the net. Same with soccer. Even though they have more subtle rules its easy to see someone score a goal or basket. It makes it easier for the average person to keep with it.

I thought he did a good job of representing the VF community, and give us a glimpse into why the game has such avid support, well at least in Japan.

Nice job of reppin vf. but he could have done a more indepth job of explaining how VF is different from Tekken, since no one seems to know, lol.

Basically sidestep is different; you can't dance but a well-timed and correct SS will always dodge. You'll hear a sound even.

And throws are good, they are a big part of offense...for example in VF there is a lot of P->throw

In general the game is tuned so that the general tactics (attack throw guard evade) are pretty equal in effectiveness. So there isn't huge frame advantage patterns u can use. I think that that is why ppl don't really get VF, their offense doesn't work like it does in Tekken.

I liked the idea someone mentioned about a groove system (VF groove/Tekken groove), but you'd still have to account for the block button in VF compared to tekken's 2d blocking system. It's difficult to develop a universal system that would satisfy both groups. The whole VF vs Tekken game idea was brought up a long time ago. It hasn't happened yet for those reasons.

. i dunno, they are just two different systems, mixing the two wouldn't make for exciting gameplay you would need to account for a few thigns that are paramount to both games:

counters
combos
throws+escapes

to me these are some of the big differences in the two games, and creating grooves to accomedate for T's styie and then one for vf would actually be interesting. it'd be like those special matches u get in the quest mode in vf, it'd be intersting stuffs.

I'd just like to say thanks to Bunk and Shock for an interesting & entertaining interview yesterday. I got into UMK3 as a direct result of Shock's vids, and I highly recommend them to anyone.

As for topics on the radio, there's nothing wrong with wandering a bit, there are always going to be people that aren't interested in what's being said at any given time; That's life. Some people use computers primarily to play fighting games (I know I do), so therefore computers are part of the scene too.

this will take all the volume levels and increase them to the same average level.. it might solve some of your problems. it might add a few seconds delay though
