View Full Version : Best Anime Clashes!

You know the classic anime clash, whether with swords, in Gundams, or energy laden fists. First the 2 combatants glare intensely at each other say either a mantra or just yell with passion and then.... Ikuzo! They dash and suddenly a brief flash and they're both on the other side of the screen. Both stand defiantly the dead one usually grinning and accepting their fate while the protagonist suffers a slight haircut or a near fatal slash or wound.
I'll just start this of:
-Twilight Suzuka vs That buff guy from the Anten 7 (Outlaw Star)
An interesting clash occured between them, fist vs blade, with the blade winning. Even so, it was one of the first clashes I ever saw and thus made it cool. Especially when he stood up for a second to ask what move he got slain by.
-Shin vs Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star)
The scene where they both did their powerful kicks from their respective style, with Shin being triumphant. I enjoyed it because it was one of the few moments where I saw an antagonist win a clash so completely- that is until...
...."Hand Of God" vs Jin (Samurai Champloo)
Badass clash scene. Hand of God being the baddest master samurai depiction ever completely owns Jin in his clash scene, and predicted the outcome with absolute accuracy.:china:

Cowboy Bebop:
Spike Vs. Vicious
2nd Best damn duel I've seen from Watanabe's work. It was great, even though it was quite obvious of who would turn out to be the victor. Spike had the advantage, but at that distance, Vicious at least had the striking. The way it was done was awesome. Just in case if you all cannot remember it or didn't see it, here's a look

Oh yeah that was good too, but I was thinking more on the lines of people running through each other with attacks so I didn't mention it.
That scene is so beautiful, I always wanted to draw it but felt like I couldn't do it justice.
But this brings up a good side discussion. Do you think that when people are having a showdown and see that they're about to kill each other actually pause in real life?
I mean I'd think they'd just ram each other like morons and get it over with.

Also, as Hunter D mentioned, Char vs. Amuro. It was just masterful. Although, I consider their fight in CCA a lot better. The only thing that sold the first bout was the fencing match they had. But, CCA was leagues better. Go from fighting in your MS to fighting via pistols and then hopping back in your mobile suits to finish the fight. Thats just balls crazy.
Another fight I'll mention is Seiya vs. Shiryu in Saint Seiya. That was damn good.

These all pretty much sum it up for me. I suppose I'll toss in Vampire Hunter D vs. Count Magnus. I don't watch much anime, but I'm glad this thread surfaced. I've been wondering why it seems like the Japanese love to put protagonists in the situation of "you have to fight/kill your own father". I guess they really consider it as the "ultimate challenge"?

Kazuma vs. Ryuho in Scryed (final episode). The fight scene took up about 60-70% of this final episode, too, making it rather long.
The two start fighting with their "level 1" powers (I forget the name of the power itself), then the intensity of the fight (and the animation) escalates as they move to their "level 2" forms and start REALLY wailing on each other. That goes on for a bit, and they move on to their FINAL forms, which lets them ascend to and fight in space above Earth.
People on earth see the streaks of the two clashing up high, over and over as the fight approaches a Dragon Ball movie scale battle. It ends, however, and the two come crashing down to Earth... only to continue the fight in their "base" human forms in the crater! This is, surprisingly, the most brutal part of the fight, as you see Kazuma crushing Ryuho's bones with massive punches, and Ryuho using his fingers to STAB Kazuma's bleeding gut.
Finally, the two summon one small remnant of their respective powers, and move it for one final blow. They both connect, and both collapse to the ground, exhausted, but Kazuma raises and clenches his fist, hinting that he won the fight.
Keep in mind that Kazuma and Ryuho weren't enemies at this point, and were in fact working together for reasons that only those who follow the anime would understand (and probably already know). But they wanted to settle their original score, and whether you loved or hated the series, that final fight stands as one of the most brutal and wicked scenes I've seen in any anime.

I can't believe we haven't mentioned Naruto vs Gaara yet. That was pretty damn epic with both guys gaining mutual respect for one another at the end.
I dont' think this is a clash but Gatts from berserk vs the demon dimension. That was such an epic struggle, with Gatts jamming a dagger in his arm to save caska.
Also in Trinity Blood, when the Vatican takes on the super battle ship. Damn all the heavy hitters came out for that one.

more mecha battles:
Macross Plus: the best fight sequence --> near the beginning of the first episode, where Isamu Dyson, in his VF-11 Thunderbolt, wastes several Zentraedi Renegade Power Armors effortlessly
… also of noteworthy mention -> the spontaneous battle between Isamu (in the YF-19) ) and Guld (in the YF-22) during a test exercise <-- funny, too
… and a clash sequence which has more of a dramatic feel to it --> Isamu & Guld in their respective experimental fighters versus the Ghost fighter prototype controlled by the psycho AI, Sharon Apple
(the muting of the audio at one point in the battle kind of really intensified the tension)
Robotech: the first time Max Sterling and Miriya fight in their respective mecha (suits) <-- :: sigh :: Why couldn't the other battle scenes in that show look just as good as that? :wonder:
----
non-mecha battles:
Bubblegum Crisis (ep. 6, Red Eyes): Priss, in her Hard Suit, getting badly beaten up by the Super Boomers & Largo but (Priss) makes a dramatic comeback against them in a new Hard Suit
sakaki vs. the biting cat

and kind of random but somewhat loosely related: link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_AXgvjT7yE)
basically, video footages from mai-otome synched with audio track from trailer to the zeta gundam remake trilogy "lovers". pretty cool since what's going on in the visual matches really well with the audio, not just for lip-synching but in terms of context (if you understand japanese). and yea... the kanji for "otome" looks a lot like the letter z.

Asuka vs the Eva Series in End of Evangelion. That's the original K-Groove beasting right there.
Sasuke and Naruto vs Haku/Kakashi vs Zabuza/Lee vs Gaara in Naruto. I actually like the earlier fights in the series better because they actually fought using their heads and innovative tactics. Later the series became "How can I hit you with Chidori/Rasengan?" I didn't particularly like the Naruto/Sasuke fight because it was essentially just who could level up better.
Goku vs Tenshinhan, Dragonball - DB gets slept on, but I find it to be more enjoyable than when everyone gets powered up to stupidly insane levels. This was an intense fight where they both just threw everything they had at each other.

I agree with what you said about DB having some of the better fights than DBZ.
Piccolo vs Goku was pretty hardcore too, both were on their last line.
Random Favorite part: I love it when Goku was putting on that training exhibition as soon as he took off his weighted armor in the tournament, he was volleying punches and kicks so fast he started to create a tornado from his own momentum!:wow: It was basically an indirect taunt, like, "Whee I'm free!!!"

kenshiro vs souther
Rurouni Kenshin gang vs. the Juppon Gatana. 10 battles! Everyone in the series fought! Even Kaoru temporarily abandoned her role as a helpless hostage and threw down! The fight had everything, a Giant, an evil priest, a blind man with Daredevil powers, a cross dresser, a Blob clone, a Batman clone, everything! Definitly my favorite anime battle ever!
Raoh vs. Toki was my favorite fight in Hokuto No Ken. Toki pushed himself to the limits to win this fight and it even drove the all mighty Raoh to tears, the first sign that there was some good in Raoh left, which was shown in his final battle with Kenshiro in the TV Anime.
But to narrow it down, my favorites were Kenshin vs. Shishio - the man just what not go down and is still kicking ass in HELL - and as a Sanosuke fan I loved Sanosuke vs. Anji - they were literally punching the crap out of each other, knuckle up!
Street Fighter the Animated Movie - Aside from Chun-Li vs. Balrog(Ninja), always loved Ryu vs. Fei Long and Ryu and Ken vs. Vega(Cape).
SF2V - Ken vs. Fei Long, Ken vs. Balrog(Ninja) and Ryu and Ken vs. Vega(Cape) again!
Fatal Fury 2 - Terry vs. Krauser! Towards the end when they stop doing fighting moves and just punch each other while Tony watches, that was just sick!
Fatal Fury movie - Terry vs. the God of Mars, from the second Sulia dies it kicks all kinds of ass. "Terry! Terry! TERRY!"
Naruto gang vs. Zabuza and Haku is one of my favorites of the Naruto anime. "Your words hurt me deeper than any physical wound." That one almost made me cry...
Final battle in the Ninja Scroll movie. 'Nuff said.
Spike vs. Vicious in Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Champloo, last few episodes
Gohan vs. Cell in Dragon Ball Z
Those are some of my favorites overall.
Dream fight
Jin (Samuri champloo) vs Kenshin (Rurouni Kenshin)
Mugen (Samuri Champloo) vs Jubei Kibagami
Gatz (Berzerk) vs Saber (Fate stay night)
Kenshin owns Jin, he can attack at super sonic speeds.
Kibagami Jubei - Jubei in the movie, maybe he'd lose. But hell no to Jubei in the TV anime. He can slice you up at a huge distance using wind. Mugen did defeat someone like that in Samurai Champloo, so maybe, but I still think Jubei can take him. Sadly the TV anime reveals that Jubei can't defeat robots, boooo...
Guts - The one in the TV anime isn't that strong. HOWEVER after the anime in the manga he becomes incredibly broken. But I suppose if you count the first episode of Berserk that showed you what he becomes after his younger years, you know what path he is on. "IT'S TOO RATE! IT'S TOO RATE!"
