so there i was, practicing T5DR, winning a few games here, losing a few games there against the local middle tier players. after one of my many trips over to the token machine, i plunk my 50 yen in and glance over to my left... it was a FEMALE!! didn't mash, knew the b&bs, and even won a few games! plus she had been using steve, my main since T4... i was amazed- and strangely aroused (strangely because her face wasn't anything to write home about... or even post up on myspace about lol). so after i get knocked off of the machine next to hers, i make another trip to get some 50 yen pieces, and another player had just ganked my spot. i didn't really wanna be an ass and beat this chick, but at the same time i kinda wanted to get my last games in so i could go home. then i said to myself fuck it, i'm hungry and ive been here too long, it's time to get those last games in and bounce. i plunk my yen in and commence the American style* aggression... i get hit by some noobish things, but i figure her out pretty quick and subsequently peaced her out. i roll over some other noobs for a 7 win streak of my own until someone picks ling (these are jap cabs and you can't ever see your opponents across the machine unless you stand up and look). i notice the kanji name: ooOO<kanji>OOoo, you know the way girls like to doll up their instant messenger names or whatever with certain letters for a special look and shit. i'm also impressed, curious, and almost intimidated by the win record of the card: like 65% wins with like almost 2000 games played. that first game i put up a good fight, went to the last round and lost with like a jab's worth of life left. i'm forced to get up to make another trip to the token machine, look at my opponent as i walk by and lo and behold, it's that chick! So I smile, and tell her, "good stuff" as I walk by, and she's all smiling and nodding like, "yea you too, you sexy chinaman you. i didn't know marines could play video games without snapping the joysticks, you are so god-like and handsome you studly manthing you." obviously the language barrier prevented her from fully expressing these thoughts, but sometimes you can just read a person's mind from their facial expression, you know what im saying? :clown: anyways, i come back and i lose two more games pretty soundly... 3-2 getting perfected the last round, and 3-1, where i spent most of the match guessing wrong over and over, lol. i get up and roll out, and tell the girl, "ggs" as i pass by, smiling the whole way to my car and the way home.

some of you may be like, "well shit i've been beat by a girl before, wtf its no big deal." yea you might also suck at fighting games too. lol j/k. but seriously, even though im just getting into t5dr, im definitely no slouch at tekken, so for a girl to have the developed the execution and mental power to dominate me in a game i was brought up on, shit... that makes me happy enough in the pants to want to share with all my nerdy brethren. hence this post, :tup:

*what I mean by American style aggression is just simple play, not very flashy, using throws very liberally, with emphasis on mind games and tempo control. from what ive seen so far, local players here tend to be very technical and methodical; they'll eat you up one juggle, setup, or trap at a time, and won't really hit (or attempt) those quasi desperation power plays in a match for that burst damage you tourney vets are so familiar with.

They were pretty good, above scrub/masher level but not yet refined. So I'm watching them play and at 2 guys play them a few games and end up throwing the 3rd round every time. I'm just like :rolleyes: So I go over to play and completely roll over them with dual Ogres. After about 3 loses they were all giddy and excited, like "We gotta beat this guy!!" So we start BSing a bit as I give them a few tips, some better combos, etc. Eventually I had to leave so I told the one she could take my game, and I said good luck with the practice. She said thanks you too, and before leaving she admitted that I was the first guy that didn't throw the game to let her win.

I dont think it happens all the time, japanese arcades are filled with otakus just like here (minus the arcades). you do see way more females in arcades though and around games in general, since a lot of arcades cater specifically to them. I haven't really been into an arcade and played for any length of time since I was about, I don't know 18 or 19. Plus, being the old guy in the corner playing outdated 2d games while teenagers on DDR stare at you just doesn't work for me. They even have a "Girl Fighting Game Player" community on Mixi, where they sit around all day posting about how profound and original they are that they are girls who play fighting games. Maybe they should spend more time in the game center playing the goddamned game.

Yup. Pretty much the Tekken spot of the northern southern half of the island. Also our base of operations. All except for one of the Gaijin Top-Tier play here. Papadon plays at Game in Naha only, because he lives like 10 minutes from it.

That's not entirely true. A LOT of the Naha players never leave Naha, and they're some of the better players on island. And that couple usually hangs out at Eagle 1, but w/e. I hardly see anyone at Eagle 2 anymore. Regardless, I'll hit you up later about the Hitech tourney.

thanks to the close proximity to miyahara, i discovered this place tonight lol. some pretty good comp there, played this one guy (who looks kinda half caucasian) who had an absolutely scary bryan (about 1800w/1200l) and a decent raven/bryan player and a good yoshi tonight. im pretty sure i saw that girl again, but she went off to play slots or something and i was busy troubleshooting that monstrous bryan player. also not sure if it was me, but controls @ eagle 1 seemed shittier than eagle 2; my shit kept jumping until i said fuck it and stopped SSU, lol.

The Bryan dude is Musashi, and iirc he's half somewhere. He speaks English too, you coulda started up a convo. And yeah, Aya and her BF always hang out at Eagle 1, they usually never play Tekken unless there's a pretty decent bunch(like ~5 heads), and even then she usually doesn't play.

In my experience the VAST majority of arcade fighting gamers in Japan are male college students.

If you haven't heard, college in Japan is pretty easy once you manage to pass the tests to get in. High Schoolers have to study too much for time to play games, and after college you have to work too much.
