The SRK Online Ranbat Series one!

The last tourny we had was fucking awesome and I was really happy to see how it ran. The tourny ran extremely smooth and had NO PROBLEMS!!!. I was extremely impressed with that. Despite the ammount of people that showed up, we had an extremely good turn out. over 20 people from the inital 30 something. Good shit people!

Every sunday, I, or one of the other srk members will host a ranbat. I will have a cap of 20 people. Once I reach this cap, There will be NO addins unless the night of the tourny. There also will be double elimination from now on as well. The last tourny ran so well that I think that we can do that. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please make sure to let me know and post in this thread. Also please get this stickied! A new era of of XBL comp is here.

At the end of the series there will be a prize for the winner of the ranbat the series will last one month. So that means every 4 weeks there will be a prize at the end of the ranbat for the top 3 slots

10 points: first place
7 points: second
4 points: third place
3 points: forth
1 point: beyond that

I think this is a pretty fair ranking system. Any suggestions feel free to add. You guys make this happen. So keep them coming!

Oh my god dude, this is the best shit I have heard in months. I think your ranking system is good- so if you participate at all, you get one point, right? so even if you are knocked out, you get something for participating. That is a good idea. I'll try to contribute to prizes as much as I can on a per-ranbat basis.

I'm all for this, but just a few quick suggestions:

1) Why is 20 the cap? It's round number in base 10, but that wont give you an even bracket. You should make it a power of 2, either 16 or 32. I realize that 16 is a little too few, and 32 is significantly more then 20, but look at it this way. If you're going to have any number over 16, then you're adding another round in the bracket anyway. So whats the difference if there's 1 match in the first round with 16 byes (17 people total), or 16 matches in the first round with no byes (32 people total)? Theoretically, there is no difference, assuming all the matches take the same amount of time, because in the end, there's still 5 rounds (single elim).

2) A month seems a little short for a "ranbat." Only having 4 tourneys to accumulate points isn't much, especially if theres a chance you can get shut out by not making it under the cap. I realize you want it to be somewhat short, to give out more prizes, but you could just as easily make it 2 or 3 months, and then just give prizes to 1st 2nd and 3rd, instead of just 1st. This might also be better because then you ensure the same person doesn't just keep winning every month and getting the prize.

We've tried doing tourneys for CvS2 (re: JD tourneys) but most either don't

1: Finish on time
2: Ever end.

However, that's not to say we haven't had successful tourneys. So it's kinda safe to say that the CvS2 live community is quite dead but ranbats are a great idea for the 3s community since there's a lot more players

The point of a tournament is to actually have some time inbetween the tournament where people don't play and can brush up on things for the next tourney. Like how KSK ranbats are usually at least 2 weeks apart. That's on average 2 ranbats within a whole month. When you start doing things like making multiple tournaments within a week people will start to get lazy/lose interest and not take the tournaments as seriously.

If you have like 8 chances to randomly come in during a month and win/place well people will get lazy. They'll start looking for days when certain players probably aren't available so they can squeeze in a quick tourney win and then not participate in the following tourney cuz someone they have a hard time against is available on that day. Not to mention it takes a lot of work to even get one tourney done so trying to get together 5 and 6 tourneys in a month is just more complication than fun.

There needs to be time inbetween where you can actually gain hype for a tournament and force yourself to think beyond your previous level. Even if it is online play.

The same way you do with every on or offline tournament. Post in the forum letting people know that you are willing to participate. Which in case means that by your post you've basically signed yourself up. Either that or show up at the tourney/chatroom an hour in advance and let the organizer know that you are ready to go.

How long is the ranbat season going to last? I just had an idea for in between ranbat seasons. Say the season takes 2 months, afterwards take a week or two break and do a large team tourney, then take another short break before the next season begins. Sound sweet?

Well if I had to guess, I'd think that for each day's tournament you could only switch supers, and not characters, because that's how other ranbats are done. That way, you don't have people counterpicking etc.

But I'm not looking for guesses I'm looking for an answer from the person running the ranbat.

Personally, I'd prefer one character for each day's tourney, but that's just me. It's just my preference, and I see the pros/cons, and arguments for both ways of dong it, so it doesn't really matter to me.
