Anyone trying to learn a decent Alex may find benefit from this.
Anyone adept with Alex may contribute, and will be deeply appreciated.

Anyhoo, I started this thread to gather info on how Alex should be played.

I've played in the past with Ken and have switched to playing Alex for strategic reasons...(obscure, vague reasons). I wasn't very good with Ken, nor am I good with Alex. Mainly, I'd appreciate any basic advice on how one should go about with Alex.

I've read the complete Alex thread, some faqs, and watched some KSK / Zangoefu match videos. Apart from that and about a few days worth of experience with him in-game, I've little else.

My main problem is dealing with Chun Li match ups. Also rush down oriented players and characters are bad news for me. I don't have much of a mix up game, and would appreciate advice on the options open to Alex and the ones i should exploit. Lastly, how should I develop my offense and are there any protocols to abide by? Pretty much any really basic knowledge necessary to Alex play.

Any other relevant info is great also.

So, if anyone has anything to say, please feel free and go ahead.

Random stomp > Chun. :D

Change the flow of the match constantly. The moment you remotely become predictable, you're done.

You have tons of mixups on knockdown, BTW, that you can use...three different ways to beat wake-up parry (throw/kara-throw, Power Bomb, headbutt), a couple of low options (c.short, sweep), overheads (s.fierce, UOH), and tick throws.

Watch your spacing.

Alex is strongest when he's got the opponent downed and in the corner. Just don't be reckless. Keep the opponent guessing...or hope you're really lucky (like I tend to be at times).

Thanks a lot!

A few more things I've thought of:
- with the S.fierce, what is the timing if I want to meaty with it?
- on my wake up, are there any good options besides wake up block (which i do right now)?
- what are the advantages or disadvantages of using a S.strong versus a S.forward to combo into the flash chop as seen in the bread and butters
- I whiff the power bomb a bunch, mainly because I am not in range for it when I think I am. How do i get in so that i'm in place for a power bomb?

Greatly appreciate it!

Seriously just practice. You can answer those questions for yourself if you just practice.

-Not really all that much to be done on wake up. Ex-knee blows through a lot of stuff, but your opponent has to be right on top of you or you'll completely whiff. If they don't do anything super meaty, a stomp actually works ok.

-mp comes out a bit faster and will hit from further away than close s.mk, but it can also be ducked by much of the cast. I believe close s.mk does a tiny bit more damage while mp does a tiny bit more stun.

alex is scariest just outside of normal throw range.

s.mp is also non distance dependent, and can catch a jumping opponent at the start of the jump better.

low parry is love .

tick-throw , dash in ,meaty throw , dash in , Low parry and throw the fuck down again . then you do a jump and meaty the shit with fierce and the guy parries it and try to throw you ,however he misses because you jump again , but this time you don't do anything , so you just throw him upon landing because he wants to parry your air fierce . then you hold crouch and wait for him to wake up and low.roundhouse his ass because he thought you're going to stomp him , then you dash in and do a meaty forward and the EX-flash , if it hits, the reason is that he thought you are going to throw him so he does a tech-throw .

i am being random .
