View Full Version : What keeps you going?

I don't want to be a bum, so I guess that motivates me to keep going in life and school and such. I have a small family, so they're something I really like to appreciate. Also, I guess it's nice when you have a gf or whatever. What about you guys?

I always want to do or have better than where I currently am, which is a good and bad thing, I guess. I also want my mom to be able to retire soon, and for my dad's medical bills to not be a problem, so that keeps me going too.

I really like the topic btw. I don't see very many "human" topics anywhere really and I think it's good as long as people can be on topic.
What keeps me going is that I want to see what's in store for the future. So far my life has been hell, but people like to point out that there are other people that got it worse than me. I suppose, but I'm not in those situations, so looking at my own situation, compared to others here, I'm not really in a great situation here.
There are people out there that in my view, got it pretty good, and looking at my life, I don't have diddly squat compared to those people. Yet somehow those people still find their way to complain. If they're not complaining, theyre offending people that are in a worse situation.
I also feel that there aren't yet anything that's worth dying for right now. I'm on the verge yes, but then I think about how that person or people aren't worth even the thought of ending my own life. So why should I have to die because of a dumbass? I shouldn't. Maybe if there were a zombie or alien invasion that's a different story.
Looking back to what I wrote in the 1st para, no, I don't have anything to live for. Yet, for some reason, I want to live to see it, and experience it.

Wanting to suceed. For all the people i know and dont know that might doubt a certain type of drive i have. Im so laid back that people think i dont take things serious.
But i very much do take things too serious, that's what keeps me going. To suceed and instead of being able to say I told you so, just being able to get to a point where my actions show what i have been saying all along.
And of course hoping to marry christina milian..lol.

The thing that keeps me going is debt. No lie. If it weren't the massive amount of debt, not to be confused with the monthly bills, in my life, I probably would just bum it up in my mom's basement.
Oh yeah, my wife and two little girls help motivate me, but then again, family = debt.
Haha.

Nothin' really, except for maybe curiosity over what'll happen in the future. The down side is that if I'm gonna keep living, then I have to achieve stuff and make sure I don't end up a failure. That's okay, though.

it's still way to easy to get down in life, but once you don't care what people think it gets alot easier.

I'm intent on it, but I'll spent the entire middle portion of the series crying about a lot of worthless, meaningless dribble. Where is the gunplay, hilarious antics, and donut-eating? Noone knows.

The natural flow of the world, the Tao
"The Tao is that from which on cannot deviate; that from which one can deviate is not the Tao"-Chung Yung(Doctrine of the mean)
a dialogue between Ch'an masters Nan-ch'uan and Chao-chou:
Chao-chou asked, "What is the Tao?"
The master[Nan-ch'uan] replied, "Your ordinary consciousness is the Tao."
"How can one return into accord with it?"
"By intending to accord you immediately deviate."
"But without intention, how can one know the Tao?"
"The Tao," said the master, "belongs neither to knowing nor to not knowing. Knowing is false understanding; not knowing is blind ignorance. If you really understand the Tao beyond doubt, it's like the empty sky. Why drag in right and wrong?"
I can ONLY flow with the Tao, there can be no obstructions in a natural way, only a personl apprehension.
and pride is for the ignorant

To become the best bboy that I can be according to my personal standards of what it means to be the best.
To experience what it is like to spend some time as a laity disciple in a Shaolin temple.
To experience and experiment with various human relationships throughout my lifetime.
What the above person said about the Tao.
To educate myself in the ways of the 5%, to fight the 10%, and to educate the 85%.

edit: wired's guid to living a happy life
Be a Happy Person
Prozac can't fix everything. Harvard psych professor Daniel Gilbert, author of Stumbling on Happiness, suggests several other ways to brighten your life.
»Indulge in small pleasures. Sure, a trip to the Bahamas is fun, but the thrill wears off quickly. Fill your days with little doses of sugar, fat, sex, exercise, family, and friends and you'll be content.
»Lower your cortisol level. The happiest people have the lowest levels of cortisol, a stress hormone that raises blood pressure and weakens the immune system. Cut the stress - more yoga, less road rage - and you'll cut your cortisol production.
»Eat the same foods. You'll get more pleasure from consistently eating what you enjoy than from eating different foods just for variety's sake.
»Give up the rat race. Once people have food, shelter, and clothing, their happiness curve flattens out. The extra effort to earn a six- or seven-figure salary has a low ROI.
»Don't reproduce. People are happier when napping or watching television than when taking care of kids.
»Settle down. Deep, satisfying relationships enhance the immune system. Tying the knot may add four years to a woman's life and eight years to a man's.
»If all else fails, move to Bhutan. Government officials in this country weigh policy in terms of "gross national happiness." Advertising and traffic lights, for example, are banned.

My mom told me that and she was walking to the train station one day she saw a boy that was about 13 year's old that had worn his shoes so much to the point where the bottom of the shoe was sitting on an angle. She felt bad and gave him some money.
Thing's like this keep me going.I have always been well-off,and when there are kids out here that barely have clothes on their back it makes me pretty sick to my stomach. As worse as I can feel there is always somebody who would trade their position for mine without thinking.
