I just posted up a resume @monster. I was just wondering if anyone here had actually got a job using it. Im real iffy about this because all of my jobs have been walk in type stuff. Ive never dealt with online jobsites. Any feedback would be appreciated thanks.

I used to post my resume on Monster, but mostly just to aid in applications so I'd have it uploaded somewhere ahead of time. Unless you have a very specific skillset and are in the right place at the right time, you're mostly (from my experience) going to get headhunters and automated bots sending you relatively crappy stuff. You'll have better luck just running searches on your own there and on craigslist.

I never understood why a site called "Monster" could be a site where you look for/get jobs...

Yeah............I got calls for interviews through Monster, and one was hooking up with this consulting firm, which in turn got me the job I'm working at now.

I think it's good exposure if you don't have the time to hit every business you can, and employers from toher companies will see your resume. If it's good enough to them, they'll call.

I got bots from every job site I posted at as well.........and you are right about the specific skillset thing, which is why I had like 5 different search agents on Monster. I made different resumes based on different skills I know of.

My father used it and he got a great job with it. So yeah, Monster is good.

I 2nd the entry level question: specifically, an entry level job that doesn't involve flipping burgers.

Everyone in college posted. But I have only met 1 person ever who got a job from there. I think all the people I knew were looking for entry level.

Monster is okay but it's grasping at straws because whenever a job posting is made, hundreds if not thousands of resumes are submitted for that position. From there, it's all about getting lucky if the person looking at them sees a keyword, key phrase or some outstanding quality they're looking for.

One thing that Monster ends up doing (whether intentionally or not), is if your resume is viewable to the public, is that it can possibly attract headhunters and you end up getting phone calls out of the blue which can be a good or bad thing, good in that it seems like you're getting considered for an interview and stuff, bad in that you have no idea what you might be getting into since this is just a guy trying to get a commission. I've heard mixed results from that.

I posted my resume up on monster.com, and gotten at least one phone call a day during the summer before I found the job I have now. Just have someone from your school look over your resume, and post it up. If it looks good, chances are people will start calling you.

monster.com helped me find my current job so I can verify that it works. Just make sure you take the initiative to apply for positions instead of waiting for people to call you.

You can also try your local craigslist.

I sent in an application to a local job through Monster.com, and I did get called back about it and asked me to come in, but when I did they had me fill out one of their own applications, and then I didn't get called back again.

So just don't get completely excited if they do call about it once, if it ends up being like the scenario I just described.

The only offer I have gotten from Monster was selling insurance door to door, working "for myself" in a type of pyramid scheme. Beware vague offers, they are likely to waste your time.

I concur although a few of those schemes do lend to nice money if you got the salesman gift, just never place too much stock or time into them.
