Just bought my first EVER wireless gamepad for a home system. It was a Pelican brand PS2 pad(S-type predator).
But the D-pad, while 'decent', does not quite feel comfortable for 2D fighters. Maybe i just have not "broken it in" yet...
Anyone here have wireless PS2 pads? What are the BEST ones, mainly with the Best D-Pad, out there?

But how is the D-pad for 2D fighters? I knew about the logitech but didn't want to fork over THAT much.

Well I was okay with the pad on the default dual shock 2.
But this pad, it's so loose and nice. You can get off all sorts of moves quite easily with it.
I had an X Box version of it but I broke it when I was playing third strike and went crazy.
It's highly recommended from me a true dpad warrior. Someone who couldn't do a fireball with a stick to save his life.

The D-Pad on the offical dual-shock 2 was ALWAYS fine. If only sony made a wireless version of the dual-shock 2...
The pelican wireless pad works pretty good otherwise, just the D-pad is somewhat uncomfortable. I think mainly because its stiffer and requires more "press" effort...
i like my logitech controllers. They seem to be the best among the others i've purchased. Don't buy anything pelican. it's pure crap! The logitech would be the best, although it's pricey, it's worth it.

i recently bought a logitech one too and i have to agree with others that its a great controller. its probably the only wireless controller worth its value. havent really played fighting games on it but if its good for one game its has to be for another.

Not necessarily, the pelican wireless pad i have for example, worked perfectly fine for other games that used the sticks.
But when playing MVC2 with the D-pad usage, the D-pad just feels a bit stiff/uncomfortable.

Yes it should, tis' a fine port. Also for playing all the other 2D fighter ports on the PS2.

No, it's not. Lag like a motherfucker on the PS2. The whole game is basically out of whack compared to the DC version.
But, yeah, who plays fighters with a pad? The only games I can go pad warrior on are VF4, GGXX and Tekken 5.

Neophyte just bought that for me. I haven't had much time to use it but the analog sticks don't feel quite as accurate as the PS2 Dual Shock. Haven't used the d-pad for fighters yet (and I wouldn't want to with a stick and saturn pad lying around) and I put in a dying pair of rechargable AAA batteries, that just died today. I'll have a better review by the weekend.
Because of all the foam, they had to shrink the shoulder buttons (especially the L2 and R2) down so the Nerfness could protect the rest of the controller. That feels weird. As far as just holding the controller, it's nerfy. Exactly what you'd expect. And while I wouldn't suggest it, I'm sure it could take an angry throw against the wall.

I used the Logitech for Xbox while playing MvC2 and I didn't like it at all. Is the PS2 one better?

MVC2 for PS2 is good enough. Gamepads are fine for fighters. Though i wouldn't mind having a GOOD arcade stick, can't afford one though...
I like that single-player X-Arcade stick, but its about $90.

.
Actually, slowdown is less on certain parts, which messes up timing. If you're going to jump on the "mvc2 for ps2 sucks" bandwagon, at least get your facts straight.

So, yeah, I played the PS2 MvC2 and it did slow down on certain parts. And yes, it did screw up my timing. So yeah, facts....

Now do you guys have the older Logitech wireless? Or the newer model cordless "action" gamepad?
I ask because i found a site with the older model New, and priced at just $14!
Edit: This is it.

Edit: Older model took 4 AA's, newer slicker model only requires 2 AA's with same battery life.
Mine takes 2 AA's

Newer model then. Here is the review for the old one:

For most controllers out there IMO, most of the the pad is usually decent, its the D-pad that may or may not be any good.

Pelican stuff is pretty shitty. The X-Arcade is really shitty too, unless they have changed it completely.

Ok well I've used that Nerf controller some more.
So far the shittiest thing about it is the shoulder buttons. They could have at least made them the same size as the original PS1 controller. Like seriously. Sometimes it takes a harder press for it to recognize that you are pressing the button. Although I am getting used to it.
The Nerfiness of it doesn't seem like a big deal in your hands. I'm going to go back to an old Dual Shock to see if I miss the squish. I know I feel more comfortable dropping it or it being stepped on, farted on, thrown, etc.
The D-pad isn't so bad but I need to play a 2d fighter on it to let you guys really know.
Oh and all that stuff about the analog stick I said before, wrong. My batteries were dying fast the first time but I put in some fresh ones and there is a marked difference in performace.
Honestly, for 30 bucks, it isn't a bad buy. It's no $40 Logitech but it's nifty. (Final score to come later)

Maybe it just took some time for me to get used too, but my pelican wireless pad is turning out pretty decent. Only thing i seem to have trouble with is half-circles sometimes, like for blackheart's portalblast-thingy.
Though i'm unsure if its the pads fault or my own execution, as i can do it on 1 side fine but not on the other(i don't have my sony Dual-shock 2 to test if i have the same problem there too).
I'll probably end up buying the logitech pad though whenever i get the chance, as i desire to have the best D-pad controls possible on a wireless solution.

Let me know when you've tried the D-pad for 2D stuff, i'd be curious to know how that works.

This is my wireless pelican pad, only mine is total black and not camo-colored:

For some reason i can't seem to find the All-black version that i have on the net, just those camo-colored pelican pads, but its the same.

Well i just got back from a LOOOONG ass walk from my dorm, to the "local" wal-mart, which did NOT have it! Although i looked around a bit more and LUCKY me, there was a radioshack nearby within walking distance which had it!:wonder:
And after another LOOOONG walk all the way back here, I've got the PS2 logitech pad.
Just finished playing a session of MVC2 with the D-pad, and its all GOOD! Pad functions nicely thus far, feels of GREAT quality, pulling off moves with the D-pad is easy, pretty compact design, has rumble feature that the pelican did not have, and it even came with its own batteries.

i actually got them in the mail yesterday, as i typed that... about ten minutes later, UPS showed up. lol
the page said refurbs, but... i got one in the refurb box, the other came in a brand new, sealed box... so i think one's new, and one's refurb.

Great deal either way, one refurb and one NEW, for the less than the price i paid for a just 1 new pad at radioshack($43).
BTW those are the new model logitechs right? (only 2 AA's for them, with 4 AA's for the older model).

Yeah its great:smile:
Though while the D-pad appears nice, i noticed it kinda makes these 'clicky' sounds when going back to the neutral position on their own. That was a tad annoying at first, but I've gotten used to it.
