So we all know about the myth that L and R on the Dreamcast controlers are analog thus cause lag in game (this is especially said regarding 3rd Strike). Well, I noticed something the other day that could be related to that. I'd been playing Marvel on the Dreamcast using an Inovation converter and a PSOne PCB. Sometimes when I tried to use my assists it wouldn't work, I didn't know why but they wouldn't come out. Then, I noticed that in principle L and R (which are the two assist buttons) didn't actually work if you pushed them in and held them. They only work properly when you press and release. This isn't the case with the other four buttons though...

Do you think this could be evidence that there is infact some sort or oddity with the L and R signals? In theory it would cause delay since the move isn't getting activated when you press the button but instead when you release the button...

Or, is this a factor of Marvel that I simply don't know about?

That's in marvel...

calling an assist has some weird properties... if you ever notice... you can hold the two assists at the same time and then let go and it does a THC... it's also why holding an assist for the switch glitch doesn't work. it's odd, but the same thing happens on my PS2 version, and in the arcade that I go to..

What do you mean by "switch glitch"? Thats switching the order&character you start out as right?

Wouldnt that be negative edge?????????? Just like hold jab then doing a fireball and at the last moment let go of Jab then the fireball comes out.

Yeah, that's what's happening... To me it seems assists can only be negative edged, why they would make it like that, I don't know. Thanks for clearing it up...

Somebody care to try this?

I was told that if you hold the assist button to do the switch glitch, and KEEP holding it... when the word "ready" comes up, if you let it go, then the assist will come out at start up..

I don't have access to test that out right now.

EDIT:
I'm not sure that the assist works entirely like a NE. If you hold it down for too long, then nothing happens at all.

Yeah, you're right... I'll test it out later...

I say this too, because on the Agetec stick, the buttons are actually, according to the DC, mapped differently as Z and C, and they are supposed to be digital, yet it has the same effect.

Can anybody test this out in the arcade?

Ill try it on my DC since I have hacked pads. Altho I dont think this would be as quick as the switch glitch since u have to eyeball the timing. unless u mean let go after the screen appears.
