Do you guys think if someone made a fan comic, movie, or some other quality work of fiction that it would attract new people to the game? I mean I was just bored out of my mind today so I started to think that the competitive gaming formula has worked out before (Megaman NT, Yugioh, Poke'mon), why wouldn't it work for a game like marvel? I mean if you try to see marvel matches as they are then it's a dirty, blindingly fast game that's hard for beginners to understand in it's entirety. However if you add story telling elements and drama it appears to me like it could work couldn't it? I mean like for example, you could hype up the AHVB, and have someone that's a specialist in using it ect. and not only will you build drama and give something credibility, you'll also be explaining vital parts of the game so more people can enjoy the real thing.

It wouldn't even have to be expensive. Just a few friends and probably macromedia flash would be sufficient. What do you guys think?

I don't see anything short of high quality, low lag online emulation that could get this game back towards 2k-2k2 levels.

Probably will happen.... someday. But yeah, basically AkumaTX is right.

Maybe Marvel has died in popularity, but the quality of players and compeition is at its peak (this years evo). It is not being played as much by "average" players, but all the top players are still competing as much as ever. The people that make up the community, I believe, are the most entertaining group of people when compared to any other specific game in the community.

Average Pokemon players would take it on with a lot of heart, but would be ultimately over powered by the wall of curved learning that towers in front of them...

i can picture it now

a 15 year old kid's dreamcast electricutes him and he wakes up with a real life character from the game in his room that only he can see whos a low tier (for the sake of storytelling the low tier "cute character" will be SonSon) and when he picks sonson in the game she goes back to the game and gets hurts IRL. the same thing happens to his friend who instead gets a higher mid tier "mean" character who'll be Dr.Doom. the two fight to be the best ever at the annual "EVO" competition and quickly become bitter rivals

random plot:
Random Asian: YOU THINK YOU CAN BEAT ME???? OH YEA LETS GO
*ACTION SHOT OF THEM PUTTING QUARTERS IN*
15yearoldkid:man this guy looks familiar....
Random Asian:hahaha do you even know who your fighting CHUMP?
*picks magneto,storm, sentinel*
random Asian: ITS ME!!!! JUSTIN WONG!!!!!!!!!
*crowd gasps*
kidsfriends:OH NO HOW IS HE GONNA BEAT JWONG!
15yearoldkid:....j....ustin...WONG?????!?!?

A fighting game story/movie/comic/etc would be cool.I remember there was an anime that had GG players or something in it(i've never seen it,but i think the idea is pretty cool).

If it's stemmed in real-life(actual tiers, all the top tier teams being used regularly) it will be dirt boring IMO.Some liberties have to be taken with fighting as well, especially since Marvel is FAST.

Our world is in peril. Storm, the spirit of the weather, can no longer stand the terrible destruction plaguing our planet.

She sends five special people:

Sentinel from Genosha, with the power of Fast-Flight.
From North America, Cable with the power of AHVB.
From the Soviet Union, Colossus with the power of Steel.
From Asia, Psylocke with the power of Psyblades.
And from South America, Amingo with the power of Cacti.

When the five powers combine, they summon Earth's greatest champion, Captain Commando!

"GO CAPCOM!!!"

THE POWER IS YOURS!

I don't see what all this talk about MvC2 dying is all about. Yeah of course it has been getting less popular, the game is SIX years old!!! When I went to NEC this year it was still the most popular game being played! (at least in terms of number of people entering/ watching and how crazy the crowd was getting, lol)

In truth I think it's 2D fighters as a whole that are on the decline, sad times my friends. Hopefully SF4 or something on one of these next gen consoles will breath life into the genre for casual gamers.

lol he threw a shoe.

It would be cool if the players didn't have supernatural powers and stuff, but rather the fights were drawn out so the players represent who is fighting.

example:

Player A's dialogue is done thru Cable as he fights.

Player B's dialogue is done thru CapCom as he fights.

gives personality to the character as well as the player. If this is something you'd like to do PM me about the writing, ideas, etc.

Yea actually that's exactly what I was thinking. Like during the fights you don't really see the actual players too much and you're actually taken into the world of mvc2. When you're getting a mix up or cross up the character in the game looks confused and is looking around or scared. Kind of to represent what the player is feeling.

I'll try to PM you today, but I really want to get to the tournament part of the comic to see if I can even draw a half decent fight which is really what I want to be the central part of the comic.

the truth

maybe that is why the game has died down? It is amazingly hard for average players to show their skills, especially since the level of competition is so high.

Marvel isn't like Street Fighter, maybe this is why, the game had held the players away because of how different Marvel is to any Street Fighter.

What's funny about this is that I make stuff like this all the time and never share it. I even started designing an SRK card game. I'd design a marvel 2 card game if one didn't already exist.

Yes, the Marvel scene still has life - especially among the die-hards. And competition amongst these die-hards is probably as fierce as ever. I used to love the game, it has had a phenomenal run that still isn't quite over after 6+ years. Good times....

None of that has anything to do with the actual question asked. Which was whether or not some kind of fan comic, movie or what have you would bring in new blood. Like I say; I seriously doubt it. I mean, I guess you can do PS2, but past that how/where is a new player supposed to play in the first place?

That's not to say don't try Higher-Jin, I'd like to see your result. Just an honest and sincere answer from me, no offense intended to you personally or any of the people who still play.

You can play the game at home(on-line) by yourself but nothing beats playing marvel surrounded by people their screams add heat to your game play theres nothing like playing it this way.

Okay I got the second page done:

I've got alot of page 3 and 4 done, but I have to draw the fight scenes so that will probably take a extra day or so since I don't want them to be laughably bad (which they may be anyways). Still to hold you guys over here's a very special preview of things to come.

SOON (http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/5383/viscantiscomingwe3.png)

Don't think I forgot about this project. It's just been xmas and my family has been taking to "hang out with the family" alot which is basically 3-4 hours of sitting around and doing nothing.... so yea it's been hard to sit down and draw (especially while learning how to draw on top of that)

Here's what I have of page 3, I kinda used a plot device to explain what marvel is, but I don't think you can really notice it unless you look REALLY hard to see what it is...... so yea here's page 3 o.o

http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/1418/gfbreal3zh3.png

I'm thinking I should just release it all at once after I finish it instead of continually updating the thread.

So yea, merry xmas all!

i think the biggest thing is that they need a diagram of how the combos work
there used to be this little thing that tells you how the medium punches and kicks are activated.

i mean, it's the standard chain combo system from darkstalkers... and all of old school marvel games... BUT there's only 4 attack buttons
i've seen people that seem to LOVE marvel, but can't do jack shit worth of combos cuz they don't know wtf they're doing. like they just can't understand the REASONING BEHIND the comboing, just memorizing combos like for tekken

which is why i LOOOVED marvel so much. everything made sense. what STEEP learning curve?

it's the easiest game to LEARN hands down. sure, there's like a shitload TO learn, but it's easily taught. seriously!

...marvel ain't dead, it might not get back to popularity it had back in the beginning where a bunch of ppl would show up at the arcades for hours, but so what?, most of them were scrubs that didn't have the dedication to get good, so they were really not important to the community.

IMO all the best players still play, and thats all that matters.

Gosh, you know how much time that would take. Giving like 50+ characters a bg story? It's a cool idea, but what kinda game maker is going to make that, and translate it into english? And they can just wikipedia it.

But also, at my school, I asked around (I'm tournament director) trying to find a game the kids at school liked, and Damn, I got ALOT of MvC2 people, even if they were scrubs...
