OK i have dsl and i gave my cpu to my sis and i get online at home with my notebook on wireless. I see that most of you who play xbl are on the cpu. I mean you complain about lag but wtf are you doing running programs such as aim and what not while playing 3s or any other live game...:looney:
The ? is. Do you play xbl while still having the cpu on? Thats what i notice that people are still online playing xbl and have other programs running.
Doesnt this effect the lag. I know it did to me while playing xbl.
SO... yea.

Makes a huge difference yeah. Even having something running as petty as AIM can throw people's connections off like woa. Especially if they don't have their routers calibrated.
calibrated routers? please explain? you man like priority bandwith to the xbox line?

Right. Some routers won't allow you to adjust it while others do. My friend's is so bad it has it at 85% of his bandwith is alloted to the first jack. Then if something is plugged into the second jack it only receives 15% of the bandwith lol... Sad thing is AIM triggers the first jack to be used, even though it hardly requires any bandwith to be used at all.

true. its going to lag no matter what but having your cpu off makes a considerable difference. i think all can agree.

One of the worst experiences during an XBL match are random lag spikes, since a laggy, yet steady connection is still somewhat playable. Sometimes I wonder whether most of those spikes are caused by CPUs/computers running ANY sort of software which utilizes the network connection. In fact, I believe operating systems periodically connect to the net for whatever weird reasons - like Windows does to look for updates - so keeping the PC connected will always create that extra bit of lag.
Just disable the connection from the PC to be 100% sure that nothing else is eating the bandwidth. I'd consider it rude if you try and play against me while having other shit eating up the connection :arazz:
