I really thought the former thread title was too confusing and misleading for any newcomers so I decided to make this new one.

We should start training seriously. I'll be down for that as I'm aching to get back hardcore into the games again. Been too long since I read the forums for STRATS and not for procrastination lol.

Anyone from Purdue and around the area post up so we can get crackin' again at those games!!

If people want to, my place on friday this week since it's been a while. Probably with the usual 4-6 of us or whatever. We'll probably have 2 consoles going on this time since we won't have a shortage of sticks anymore, hopefully. Also waiting for a turn with a bunch of people sucks.

Well, good news is I got a PS2 and TV of my own in my room now so I can practice.

Bad news is that it's unmodded (and I don't plan on modding a brand new PS2!) so I won't be able to play Slash. Well, I guess with AC coming out, Gear is never gonna stay stable :razzy:

I have the XX version so I could play that and see what changes they made to Slash so I can put up some sort of challenge when I play you guys.

Hmm, there's a problem for me to play this Friday because I have work around 11 am on Saturday (and I plan to hit the gym before then making it ~7 am when I need to wake up). Also, need to wake up around 9:30 am on Sunday so I can't session too long on Saturday night either.

Actually, if Wong doesn't mind sending me home earlier, I'd be down for both sessions. If it's inconvenient, that's cool I'll just sit out for these few sessions and practice to get up to speed.

Yeah, I think it's good to have a dedicated group of us session so the line won't be enormously long. And I was thinking if we want to expand, we'd definitely have to do the sessions somewhere on campus. Unless we recruit some definite hardcore players, it's probably best to separate the two sessions for now. Although, I'm always hoping for more hardcore players to join us.

I'll see if Jon wants to go. The way things are going right now as far as us Purdue gamers is that we're trying to find a concrete place where people that are interested in fighting games can get together. My place is just so far off campus and the places we've gotten on campus can only be reserved for like 2 hours (before being taken over by halo 2 people). As far as I know, a good chunk of the 3s players on campus don't check this forum at all and it's really hard to contact people other than randomly meeting them in the union arcade.

As far as the tourney itself goes, I'm inclined to go to support the Indy scene but it semi-depends on who else from here is coming with me, whom of which I'll probably talk to at whatever meetup we have this weekend. I also haven't played 3s in like forever, which is like the only game I'll be interested in there.

Got any info from which dudes from ft.wayne/bloomington are definately going? Is Panda going?

Bloomington will have Dave, and I'd assume Eric Nunes (we all stayed at his place that night) and maybe another. Dave is having a party at his place in Bloomington after the tournament.

Tim, glad to see you plan on coming. I've actually been involved with CvS2 lately, but not from a playing standpoint. I have been talking with a kid from New York on the internet, just giving him some random tips about the different grooves and teaching him how to roll cancel, and pointing him in the direction of certain videos and strategies. He's learning quite quickly from what he tells me. Anyway he doesn't believe me that Todo can be any good in the game so perhaps I'll be video taping a match of us on Xbox sometime or at the Indy tournament just to show him what's up with that. :rofl:

Not sure if this is even bumpable, but I'm transferring to Purdue this fall, willing to play any fighting games offline or w/e. I got a 360 w/: SF4, SF Anniversary Edition (has 3rd strike, and hyper fighting w/ all the sf2 char types from all iterations), HDR, MvC2, BlazBlue, and KOF12. Yea, I think so... Not 100% sure if I have to but I probably will since I'll be in town anyway and I think I already registered for it. I'm gonna be living in the apt complexes across from the triple X basically (is that what you meant by location? cause I would be down to play against ppl @ my apt anytime). Too bad I don't think I'll be able to put up a fight anymore, just got an E 74 error on my 360 today right after I mastered akuma's challenge combo trials!!, and I think that'll take a while to fix -_-.

That's a tough break on your 360. It shouldn't take more than 3 weeks for them to repair your xbox though. My buddy just sent his in and it came back really quick.

Hey guys, I'm back...sorta lol. I got buttloads of work as I'm sure some of you do as well, but seeing as how there appears to be some activity lately I am inspired to post. I'm not sure how available I'll be for gaming, but in any case the purpose of my post is just to hopefully get some conversation going again and see what our community at Purdue looks like.

I know we have some really good players in a variety of games here, which makes me think that we could become a very competitive region. I would do get togethers, but seeing as I have a girlfriend + roommate, that makes things a little more complicated doing it at my place.

So I'll just get things started. Here's a list of games I know that we have players for (and some are extremely solid) and thus, we can potentially make a strong player base for each game:

Street Fighter 4 - meta, me, |Impulse (maybe)
BlazBlue - meta, Abstract, me, |mpulse (maybe)
Third Strike - |mpulse, me (if we get a big enough interest going), Ahmed, a bunch of people at the arcade I don't know their names but are pretty good as well
Soul Calibur 4 - Me
Tekken - |mpulse, Me

I'm sure I'm missing people + games so just post up. I'm a casual/hardcore gamer in that I'm willing to pick up new games casually and just learn and if I happen to get good, great, if not I'll have fun with it. So I am willing to do online games with people cause I don't mind the lag!

Oh sweet I didn't think there would be that many players in West Lafayette left since I bumped the post a long time ago. I went to the arcade on Friday for the first time and met Ahmed there playin 3rd strike and got destroyed, but was really buggin him about whether or not he knew of an SF community here. Nice to see that there is one.

I'm into sf4 BB and 3s out of that list but also like HDR. But I really need to be taught a little bit of Blazblue or learn it with someone as the online is terrible.... I'd be willing to do get togethers @ my apartment, im sure my roommates won't mind.

Yo Abstract, I think you should definitely pick up SF4, its the hottest thing out right now along with BB, plus its really fun but some people tend to not like it so I say just try it cause its got a huge scene. I think @ the naptown clash tournament the two highest entered games were SF4 and BB, SF had like 40 and BB had ~35 and I got all those games plus the GG for xbox, SF anniversary edition, KOF12, MvC2 and HDR so my place would be a good place to host :P

I'm REALLY down to host games ASAP, hopefully this weekend, was gonna go play a club soccer game in chicago on sunday but both of my knees got fucked up @ practice today somehow, so this weekend would be even better.

Hey guys, I want to have another meeting like the time before at the end of the week, but with more people. I'm not 100% good with facebook but I thought it would notify people if I wrote on the Purdue Fighting Game alliance group wall but it obviously didn't or people just weren't interested.

I know Jackie said she would be willing to do it tues & thurs during the week, but everyone else thought mainly the weekend or didn't have an answer. What day/time is everyone available? If you can or can't go you should still spread the word.

BTW I'm picking up Rachel Alucard since shes the top tier char I like the best (shes a vampire with a totoro for a bean bag??) in BB and I'm gonna try and learn the combos with the strategies you guys were talking about while playing, so I'll be playing BB & SF4 mainly then.

How was the gathering? How many people were there? I'm still busy with stuff at the moment, but I still check this thread every now and then. I've heard KOFXII is just a shitty game, period. I was talking to a guy who played KOFXI at the Union and he basically told me the same thing. Consensus seems to be it sucks.

I bought it this summer and tried the online play and it really sucked. But someone @ an Indianapolis casual session said they released a patch for the netcode. I think its just for the PS3 atm.... but its supposed to make it near as good as sfiv online. I'll still keep the game but it'll be a while till I learn it.

We had about 3 people show up to the first one. 4th couldn't make it until the last 10 minutes so he just didn't show. I still think that was a pretty good showing though since it was the first time and it was scheduled the night before at 11 pm. I'd really like more people to come next time!!

I actually just read the UIUC thread here and I thought their setup was pretty badass:

yeah man you are DEFINITELY welcome to come. I really am trying to get the old school people to merge with us guys :D. We have 1 killer in both Blazblue and SF4, and those are the main games we play. Keep in mind we have only had 2 gatherings

But we have most of em, like 3s, HDR, MvC2, GG (#reload for xbox), and KOF12 etc. The most healthy game is SF4 obviously, but anthony hasnt brought his BB crew yet. We have a DC with 0 controllers a Wii with no joysticks and a PS3 with one TE stick, and a PS2 with no joysticks on it or fighting games. In the main room we got 2 TVs one has a PS3 connected to it another has a 360 to it. Then in my room (like right next to it) we have another 360 hooked up to another TV, but we cant find the other version of sfiv so we only got sfiv on in the main room.

What time would you want it to be on sundays?

PS only have a few joysticks so BYOC everyone if you got one.

All right. To make things clearer for those who know me, this is Ahmed A.K.A. 'Fro. You've probably run into me at some point at the Union arcade playing 3S maining Ryu. I already have an idea of who some of you are on the thread. In any case, I was just recenty informed of this thread. I would like to have a gathering this weekend for sure. My room can hold six people not including myself. (I live in a Cary Quad Suite). If you guys have a better, larger venue, then I have no qualms with lugging my PS3 and Hori stick over there. However, I would definitely need help with my rather fat TV, as it nearly broke my back last time I tried to walk with it for too long. I would prefer Saturday.

Oh, and if there wasn't a set games list, I'll throw out that I play SFVI and the underrated KOFXII. I play some other obscure titles, but I'll leave that for when we meet. Looking forward to some GGs!

All right, I wanted to do something official before Sunday. I want to know how many people would be interested in playing in my room this Saturday. I have a PS3 and SFVI as well as KOF XII. I also have Tekken 5:DR and Virtua Fighter 5, should anyone be interested. If you need to lug stuff over and you have a car, there are free parking spots right outside my dorm, Cary Quad. I'll go ahead and open up the place for shenanigans starting at 6:00 pm. I've been hoping for initiative in starting a non-Smash fighting game scene here.

damn anthony, i was really burnt out yesterday and couldn't play sf at all... although, I really can't get 3rd strike to play anyway, it only shows the sprites for me, and I have no idea whats wrong cause every other game works fine. I mainly play ST online tbh I don't get a good feeling from 3s, especially since it translates to HDR.

@ Crono I'll keep posting when I have get togethors which will try and be every week (but I am trying to go to SB4 on the weekend of the 16th so not that weekend :D), but for the past 4 its just been the same people (not much, but still cool), so until everyone starts getting together regularly I personally won't hold a tournament (a 6 person tourney would be lame imo). But I definitely plan to hold tournaments or ranbats if the scene grows.

Yeah it really has been, and still is right now for me, got a couple of tests this week and another on monday, on top of trying to get a job etc. im super stressed. Anyone down for playing next thursday night (the 29th not this one) ~8:00pm though, I really wanna get some games in hardcore, got my ps3 stick dual modded to work on 360 at seasons beatings, and on top of seeing tons of really amazing/hype shit I really wanna level up hardcore. I won't be using a pad ever anymore (BYOC) gotta give my shit up when i get back on, now that I dropped even more $ on joysticks. Also after seeing how casuals were @ seasons beatings I wanna handle it more like a winner stays best 2/3 on each station, makes it more competitive/fun like your at an arcade trying to take someone out and really have to play to win.

yeah man you can definitely count on me heading down there and I'll bring anyone who wants to go (I'll probably leave around midnight so I can get some sleep before wednesday then though).

I really liked SB (some of the people are saying it was better than EVO), but I was salty even before I got there (bullshit irl stuff) so I didn't have as good as a time as I could have, but I tried to make the best of it. I went 2 and out, lost to a really good Bison (think he took a game off andre in a mm) and then choked against this fuerte player wearing a mask. I also was streamed at the stream station in the 3 man tourney, where i basically dominated this vega player first round (gettin those 2 frame links from s.HK w/ akuma) and choked again second round.

My plan was to just download all the akuma players styles while I was there, and see how they handle pressure etc. while also bein a huge fan during shit like marvel and the main event etc.

but yea definitely count me in, is marcus gonna be there? I know he wants to try his honda on my akuma :)

That 26ish hit double focus cancel MK-Hands masterpiece you pulled out towards the end of the night was definitely highlight reel worthy. Sorry the best I could put forward was ball spam and XBL-anka technique. It'd been a while and just getting comfortable with cross-up MK and blocking jumpins took almost the entire night, no time for hop shenanigans and knockdown ambiguous ultra. "No excuse zone" though, you guys were all just really good.

Sorry I never made it back, we went to a friend's place, ended up drinking a little, and the next thing I knew I was walking back to the parking garage by Hillenbrand all they way from down the river at 6:30 in the morning. Something that will be added to the first post full of info is a SF4 teams event. It's a 3v3 tournament. So if there is a bunch of you that like playing SF4 you can play both the singles event and for just an extra $5 you can team up in a threesome and play the team event too! :smile:

yo john, i just got done watching some tvc, and i could really get into it (doesn't hurt that there's so much hype around SRK about it and its gonna be at evo 2010) maybe i should reconsider playing it, i might buy one of those madcatz sticks, i wouldn't bring it on friday but just saying you might have irl competition soon (i think the next console i buy will be a wii). by the way hows the netplay?

The netplay is pretty hit or miss. Sometimes there's no lag, but sometimes it's unplayable. Overall it's okay though, and not much worse than SF4. The gameplay itself is really awesome though, so it'd be sweet to have someone to play against!

Hey guys, I talked about it with jason, and he says we're good to go for saturday.

It's gonna be in the hillenbrand lobby, the one on the left side of the entrance. We're gonna set up around 7:45 and hopefully get started playing at 8:00. It's gonna be SF4 on PS3 on the projector, and TvC on Wii on the TV, or maybe on a second projector if we can score one. We're using Jason's PS3, but all we have are pads, so if anyone with a PS3 stick would be so kind as to bring their sticks for people to use that would be awesome.

I ordered a Wii stick that I'm getting this week, so we'll have that plus gamecube pads to use for TvC.

I've been wanting to test the lag on the lcd hdtv desperately since i hooked it up earlier this week, and you cant seem to test the lag without an actual controller.

Anyway I'm taking a break from sf4 till super comes out, im gonna explore the older sf games i've been meaning to learn (3s and HDR), i just beat 3s finally, and akuma is like whoopin ass in an underwater treasure boat whoa! hes fuckin super cooo, anyone else had the urge to drop sf4 and play other fighters till super?
