View Full Version : Emulating SF Anniversary on pcsx2

I was wondering on how to successfully emulate SF Anniversary Collection for the PS/2 on PCSX2. One of my friends supposedly got it to emulate smoothly, but somehow I can't do it.
Whether I try to run it directly from my DVD-ROM drive, since I purchased a legit PS2 copy myself, or when I try to burn the DVD onto my hard drive using Alcohol 120%, it runs really sluggish. Frame rate is horrible, and the sound is very choppy.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Your "friend" is prolly full of BS, he's most likely playing the CPS2 port of HSF2 and the DC port of 3s on Chankast. Ps2 emulation is still in its infancy, ive heard a handful of 2d Ps2 games can be played in PCSX2 at a playable frame rate (25fps with frame skipping on) if you have a really powerful rig (like 4ghz), otherwise forget it.

I see.
Is there any way of optimizing SFIII's performance on Chankast? Even when setting the process priority to "High", turning on Capcom hack, minimizing resolution, and killing other active processes and tasks, it becomes pretty sluggish after the 2nd stage.
Now I don't think I have THAT old of a rig (AMD Athlon 64 3700+, 1 gig PC3200 DDR CAS2, Geforce 7600GT 256mb) but if there are any ways to make it run smoothly I appreciate it.

codename: I have the almost exact system you have, AMD 64 3700+/1gig RAM/express 64Mb ATI RAEDEON. My chankast runs fine, I've never expirenced any slow down what so ever, unless firefox is open.

For what I know, chankast performance is rather random (though you should get your hopes up with a p3 500).
And until someone decodes the CPS3 algorithm, we're stuck with chankast

I guess I'll try getting the CD image from another source.
EDIT: Does anyone else's SFIII: TS game on Chankast sometimes have weird-looking character avatars during a match? Also when I select a character there's like 1/4-second pause right after I select him/her...
Thanks for all your help by the way.

I appreciate the emulation scene, and I appreciate the "because I can" folks who use these bleeding-edge emulators.
But you can get a Dreamcast for $50 off eBay. PS2s are cheap as chips straight off the shelf new with warranty. Hell, a crappy 21" TV costs more than both consoles combined. I can spend more on booze at a night down the pub with the mates than I would on either of these consoles.
Again, I'm not bad mouthing the emulators nor their authors. Good on them for giving it a go. But they're all still a few years away from (a) being coded correctly and (b) there existing cheap/good enough hardware to run them properly.
I'd rather spend time playing games than tinkering around trying to squeeze an extra few frames per second out of an emulator.

Yes but kawaks emulates the CPS1 and CPS2 systems, but not the CPS3 if I can recall correctly.
Same with M.A.M.E.

have you tried pressing the plus key by numpad on chankast?
I only have a 6600gt and it runs fine, it shouldnt be slow for you. Even my old mx440 was getting 50/60 fps.
SFAC does work smoothly with pcsx2, but not with the default graphics plugin IIRC. The problem this that the other plugin that does run it smoothly is unstable and crashes. often.
When I tried it was either play it extremely laggy or face crashes. I gave up and got a ps2, you should too. :wgrin:

uhh, i think the thread starter wanted SFAC for third strike, not Hyper SF2/SFAE.
