How to Palm PDA's work? Are they effective? My concern is for the PDA that allows for checking email and surfing wherever there is a wireless signal? Does this work? Can I check on email when I am at a university or is there usually some sort of password needed to access the network? Anyone use this to check their university email and not a generic email like hotmail/gmail?

How do you guys organize the events in your life? Meetings? Appointments? Interviews? Projects? Finances?

Do you record in books, pen and paper? Do you input it on post-its and later put it into a book? Do you use your cell phone? Smart Phone? PDA?

Internet sucks for sites that aren't designed for PDA's because the window is too big for the screen. But it works for basic things. Gmail actually has a specific site for PDA users. We're talking mostly text-based browsing. It sounds like you're mostly worried about entering text- don't worry, there's usually an on-screen keyboard or character recognition system. Or you could use one of those keyboard attachments.

For basic organization of appointments, meetings & stuff, it's alright to use the PDA on its own. But if you're planning on using it extensively, it's probably better to sync it up to Outlook.

one of my concerns is using it for checking email

not sure if it would be password protected or not

i would also like to check my email from my university account as well

really that just depends on your school cause for instance @ usf the whole campus is wifi so i can use my mda to browse the web. just check with your school

really? a treo?

does that mean you have to sign up for monthly access, while if you had a wifi pda, you could use it for free, but only be limited by where the wifi hotspots are?

the other thing i was curious about was
do you guys know if i can use a palm to access a university email server?

e.g. med.harvard.edu, toronto.edu, etc...

and not just the free server: yahoo.com, gmail, hotmail

ok i don't know where else to ask this so i might as well just ask here. I need a PDA/phone and if such a device exists that has they specs then please recommend me some:

* use mp3s as ringtones (fuck paying 3 dollars for something i can make in 10 secs)
* has physical key pads for easy texting/email
* uses some sort of external flash memory like a 4GB card or higher (SD or micro SD prefered)
* really user friendly and a slick interface with a nice screen resolution (touch screen if possible)
* good battery life and easy battery replacement if needed
* a decent phone plan that i don't have to pay an arm and a leg for
* fastest internet connection avalible

Recommendations? any idea if the Cingular 8525 is worth the money?

PDA's are a lifesaver for getting your shit organized. If you're in college, keeping track of tests/assignments/classes becomes SO much easier.

I had a tungsten E2, and after the first month of college, it was still wrapped up, so i sold it for 175. Some people find them useful... Others, like myself, find a Day Runner easier...

I can't remember what I had, it was some old POS model... it was my lifesaver during my school year. I didn't really realize how dependent on it I was though.. I gave it away to my cousin during the summer, and once school started again I realized how lost I was.

the E2 is my favorite palm. There's the TX, which is all that and a bag of honey bbq herrs chips. But as far as budget and quality go, i find the E2 is the best bang for the buck. it's 200 retail, but i'm sure u can get it for about 100 or so on ebay or amazon.

the e2 is missing wifi and bluetooth compared to the tx

is this worth it without these two?

how important are the wifi and bluetooth?

It depends on how much it's worth it to you. for the extra $100 retail, you get those two things... If it's very important that you have these things, then yes, it's worth it. Personally, I'd rather use a laptop for wi-fi, since I hate looking at the internet on a small screen, and bluetooth isn't as important in a PDA to me as just using the cord. The only thing I'd use BT for is to transfer files to a PC... Carrying the cable around with you isn't a big deal, as they're typically very small, and unlike a bluetooth adapter, almost every computer that would be used in modern times would have a USB port, whereas most don't have bluetooth adapters built in or as a USB adapter.

What in the way of PDAs, smartphones, etc. do you recommend for someone trying to stay connected to email, and has pda functionality?
