From EGM:

...But what other secrets is Konami hiding in its coffin? Big ones! Check back here next issue to get the exclusive scoop on the next Castlevania installment. Trust us-- if you're a fan of SOTN, you'll want to sink your fangs into this killer exclusive.

It's most likely true. If you got the Castlevania preorder bonus with Portrait of Ruin, it came with a timeline of the entire series. There's a note that hints at a new game that explains the presence of a 16th century vampire in the 20th century.

I hope they never do the 1999 game. That would be, like, the end of the series as we know it.

is this the one that never came out for the dreamcast?

My expectations for that game are too high and cannot be met, really. Plus, since it features the final death of Drac, it would end an era in the series.

I am, however, interested in a game that details why the Belmonts hand the Vampire Killer to the Morrises.

Yea but we already knew Drac was dead. Plus they might freak it and pull some surprise shit.

I thought one of the Morris' married a Belmont. Maybe they had the only kid of that generation and as such inherited the vampire killer job?

yeah, I'd rather not play the battle of 1999. I like the fact that aside from the major details, its pretty much left to the imagination. and living up to the expectations showing the greatest belmont ever, julius, has to be tough.

I'd rather see a game in the future where alucard has taken up his father's mantle of lord of darkness (like he hinted at the end of DoS) and acts as the final boss.

That really wouldn't make sense because that would completely wipe out the Belmont Clan (with no son to carry on the name, the daughter would be the last Belmont, and she would change her name upon marrying Morris), and there wouldn't even be a Julius Belmont in 1999. I don't know if you've played PoR yet, but here's what we know so far:

The Morris family is related to the Belmont family, but we don't know the specifics of this familial tie. What we do know is that the last Belmont to use the Vampire Killer before handing it off the the Morris family is Richter (because the Whip's Memory that Jonathan has to fight is Richter). We also know that, after handing off the VK to the Morris family, the Belmont family is forbidden from using the VK again until 1999, for whatever reason.

One of the clues that the Morris family is not a blood relative to the Belmont family is that any Morris who uses the VK has to not only overcome the whip's memory of the last Belmont to wield it (namely Richter), he also has to sacrifice some of his life force each time he uses it.

Even if "Castlevania: 1999" came out, every Castlevania fan will get it and play it. I really doubt it'd be the end of a series, considering Castlevania has been going on for twenty years. IGA wouldn't let his legacy end after all this time.

Septimus Prime

Yes, but the issue is not whether or not we'd play it (of course we would); it's whether or not we want to see it be released. Plus, the end of Castlevania of which I speak is more figurative than anything. The series probably won't end, but it just won't be the same without its main antagonist.

Or CoD either IIRC.

So some know it all girl who apparently knew everything about PoR before its release on gamefaqs dropped the tip that there is going to be TWO 1999 games coming out. Apparently this bitch is trustworthy, but fuck her. The timeline that came in the preorder bonus for PoR totally hints at a new game with Christopher "Last REAL MAN" Belmont and possibly his pussy ass son.

Would rather see that than the 1999 shit. Who cares about 1999, IGA already japped up the series by adding that Hakuba shit. That shit pisses me off, he just HAD to throw in Japan to a storyline like this. Maybe he should add in the Paris Syndrome in the 1999 game so we can see that shit in action.

Givin' this a bump.

In addition to what everyone else has said, there's something else to consider; there's been something of an ambiguous time-travel motif going on in the Castlevania games for some time now.

Some of the hints are minor, like the existence of American Hamburgers in the SOTN castle or the mechanical devices in earlier-timeline Castlevania games.

Some of the hints are more direct, like the Magician in Curse of Darkness being a very obvious time traveler with relics from the future in his hidden abode.

The battle of 1999, as discussed in hindsight in Aria/Dawn of Sorrow and as foreshadowed in Portrait of Ruin, is something HUGE. I, too, would love to kick some ass as Julius in his prime, a man hinted to be "the strongest of the Belmonts" (a title that Richter once had). Alucard (as Arikado) was involved, too. It will be huge.

And given the scope of what it's supposed to be, and the whole time travel thing, and the whole "1999 is supposed to be the apocalypse" deal, it's an event that Konami cannot fuck up. Either make it the best fuckin' Castlevania game ever, or don't make it at all.

If they do, though, I hope that Julius tells the tale to Soma and company via a flashback. That'd be coo'.

There aren't like at all.

In a relatively recent interview, IGA was asked about it and he seemed kind of annoyed. Like people have been asking too much.

He says he and his team makes the games by the new gameplay systems they come up with and not by which game they want to do in the timeline.

SO, with that said, no 1999 until they have something to base it around.

I honestly hope that it's in 3D but ya know, with a fully modeled castle instead of just rooms and halls and the feeleing that you are playing a dungeon crawler. They'd really have to pay their enivorment makes a ton becuase that to me was the stake in both Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness (which improved it a bit but still felt too similar to Lament).

I always kind of imagined the whole world bearing witness to Drac's power in 1999 instead of just his lackeys and the Belmonts/whoever else. Cause in AoS there were zombie soldiers and guns as weapons so that means that people finally found out about what's been going on. So I can see like the EU sending in planes and choppers and platoons of soldiers only to be wiped out by supernatural monsters before Julius gets there.

And it needs to be online co-op.

Maybe the bad ending for DoS was the real ending. Pretty easy way to continue the storyline.

As badass an ending as that was, there was way more effort put into the "good" ending, so I'm thinking that Soma escaped the influence (again) and defeated Menace.

Crispin Freeman = hotness.

"Belmondo" in the dubiously-translated subtitles = notness.

The guy who played Isaac in that game was suitably creepy and calculating. When he stabbed Trevor from behind, gives his little speech, and then kisses Trevor on the head before kicking him off his spear, I was like DAMN MAN dude's playin' to win. Though really, as shown earlier in the game, Isaac had no chance against Trevor in a REAL fight, so he had to resort to a backstab.

Fuck the bad ending of DoS. Soma's far too badass to go out like that. Besides, with his creation they could potentially keep the franchise going into the future if they wished, setting up the Cruz family as the new Belmonts (I'm sure Soma's children would gain some sort of badass powers from their father) and bring in some new villians like they did in AoS/DoS...althoughthere'd likely be no Drac, there still could be a Dark Lord as there were candidates besides Soma to inherit his soul.

Anyway, what's this I hear about a "16th century vampire in the 20th century"?

EDIT: Oh and specs, I'm working on your av. :)

Because if Belmonts > Drac, Trevor has to be better than Isaac at just level 1. Trevor is like the pimp of Castlevania. He looked good even with a huge scar. I bet he had bitches waitin' at home for him.

Thanks Specs btw.

The familars were awesome in CoD but DAMN the combat was lacking. Although having fully realized weapons instead of just sprite swords with dashes of color was nice.

I think IGA should have the balls and fully model or fully draw each and every armor and leave the option for us to show characters wearing the gear or not. It would be a laugh riot.

-------------------------------------------

Time travel? My copy of CoD freezes on half the FMVs so I missed out on Saint Germin's speech. I honestly think the hamburgers and japanese swords are just tounge in cheek jokes. Although it could be explained by time travel. I don't think it's as an important plot point as the castle itself. Plus, it's about damn time we see Drac answer to the true Lord of Darkness. Be nice to see Death say to Drac in 1999, "I'm sorry boss but your time has finally come." Then Death looks over his shoulder and you see this huge looming monster of literally pure evil and Drac just shakes his head and weeps and screams out both of his wives' names." Then at the very end it jumps so we see the birth of Soma and it all fades to black. Soma's mother: "Why is hair white?! WTF?"

Damn... yeah 1999 is too epic for even the most epic games today. I really do wish that from the start you can play it with a friend and explore the castle together. If I were IGA and his team, I'd be creating sections of the castle right now so by the time they have a game play system it will already be done.

Anyway, what's this I hear about a "16th century vampire in the 20th century"?

? you mean the war of 1999? It's Dracula's final return to take over the world. It's been hinted at in like 3 games now. See this time, there isn't anyone trying to revive drac, this is just his normal (and for the love of God IGA why have you basically dropped this concept) 100 year natural revival from the dead. So it's something that everyone is anticipating in both the game's universe and us fans.

I swore the "16th century vampire in the 20th century" was referring to Elizabeth Bartley, which is a real person from the 16th century, who for whatever reason is in Castlevania Bloodlines, which takes place in the 20th century. It has nothing to do with the battle of 1999.

Future Castlevania: I think Konami was comfortable delving some 20-30 years into the future because they knew that the world would probably be much as it is today. In addition, they didn't need to show too much of the world outside Drac's castle. Delving further would mean they'd have to consider new technology and world developments.

Which, to me, is just FINE. I'd love to see some Castlevania like 100+ years into the future, where the demonic castle appears to a world that is mostly destroyed or some shit. However, Iga or whatever the hell his name is seems to like keeping Castlevania firmly rooted in real world history. That he actually jumped into the future a bit in the Sorrow games is surprising IMO.

the weapons were pretty varied but i stuck with the short sword-type weapon move set. easiest to handle.

here's some things that need to come back:

CoD's Innocent Devils (and the Sword Familiar from SotN)
A Hot Lady Hero (Like Sonia from Legends)
or A Girl Axe Armor is fine too (http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/dracula_ds2/galleryof/popup/pic_41.jpg)
Another version of "Iron Blue Intention." (PoR had it, but really we need more)
Joachim from LoI. Loved how he played with those swords.

3d would work but if so the series has to get up to snuff with the better action games out there (looking at Ninja Gaiden). The first 3d CV was meh the second I heard was better but I never played it.

If it was 2 and a half d like the Rondo remake, only with next gen graphics, damn that would be pretty hot too.
