MAME Help

listen guys I just wanted to play the original mortal kombat arcade, so i figured id use this program MAME that everyone is fond of.

I cant get this dam thing to work! how the hell do i start a game? I got 2 different versions of MAME, one that was just the regular that i think needs to be accessed through the command prompt, and the other was MAME32 which had a whole display and everything.

My problems for MAME are that i dont know how the hell to load up a game or even start the program.

My problems for MAME32 is that it has a LONG LONG list of games but when i try to open one up it loads until 100% then it just shuts the program off.

HELP PLEASE!!!

just to make sure, here are the steps.

1. put zip roms in rom folder
2. open mame
3. select file then audit games
4.choose available from the list
5. double click game(on right)
6.Play dat shit

if you have a problem after that it could be many things.
1.your pc sucks
2.your rom is wrong
3.you need another mame

Sounds like you've gotta shitty rom. Like Buck said, you're rom might be wrong. I know that when I used to screw around with mame, I had to audit my entire library and then the games that are not able to run will show up with an "X". But if it's loading then goes blank, you might have a shitty computer. I know I can't run Killer Instinct and KI2 on mine (Fuck) because it's heavy on resources and you need a powerful computer and my computer isn't that bad. What are you running it on?

its not a newer comp, but i play marvel vs street fighter and MvC flawlessly, smooth and everything, but mortal kombat plays like ass

See, and MK played fine on mine. Which MK you talking about? If I remember right, I couldn't get UMK3 running.
