I'm going to be buying it. I kinda been watching it for over a year now and I even started working on a avatar for it. Hmm... I gotta start back on that again. But I'll see how good the game is first.

90% through the import and I gave up. The game is fucken nice graphically but things get really tedious in regards to the hunting and some of the platforming.

Too much walking in the cities as well (not as bad as the empty and pointless Suikoden ones..) but still too much.

I have to admit though, some of the ways you defeat the bosses are pretty cool, along w/the weapons.

iirc, the first boss required you to shoot up platforms which you jump on just to get a proper shot at the bosses weak spot.

edit - some of my posts are still in the what are you playing thread but I didn't really elaborate on the game haha. Hopefully it still has the 'barely any loading' thing going on.

And yeah, some of the areas are retarded (ie: library level in Halo 1) Horrible grind in a stupid tower.

The US version is getting beefed up a lot apparently, and it will be on a DVD9 also.

The US version of the game is being released in Japan as a Director's Cut game.

EDIT: What the fuck was I on? :looney:

Yeah, I've been waiting for this game for a very long time. I'm going to try to finish up FF XII so I can devote some time to this. Level 5 has made some great games already, and I've been looking forward to this since I heard it was coming out in Japan.

I was going to pick it up yesterday, but I figured that I need to finish FF XII first. I'd usually buy it and neglect FF XII, but I figure I can wait, it'll still be there. Someone tell me that this game is as awesome as I was hoping for it to be.

And yeah, some of the areas are retarded (ie: library level in Halo 1) Horrible grind in a stupid tower.

 the tower of babel, everyone either gives up or gets so frustrated that they quit the game, and if they didn't quit the game they got a sour taste from the whole experience just from that dungeon alone

I'd play this again just because of the new content, but I'm not expecting anything different from the experience of the import. When I was posting on GFAQ's a little while back, people (including Kouli) thought that the US version didn't warrant the bad opinions b/c it's supposed to be so changed that it's basically a new game. I don't believe that because they can't do anything to save those godforsaken tedious and long dungeons that all have the same repeated textures.

Been playing for a few hours and I really enjoy the game. I just reached the jungle planet and am getting raped by the creatures there. Need to level up more.

One thing that happens is that all members of your party recieve experience even if they aren't part of the battle field. I have mixed feelings about this but so far, so good.

The game looks cool, but I'm not the biggest fan in the world of random encounters.I think the entire random enconter system is dated.I guess it does give you that nostalgic feeling.

So exactly how vast is this game? It seems to contain many planets to explore...I was always hoping for an rpg that had a rediculously large amount of planets to explore (even if most of them were optional), but I don't think I found such a game yet.

a lotta planets, each city is pretty huge and unique, but the dungeons are UGH. Very repetitive textures and the dungeons can be big and time consuming. It's of the maze variety.

So, it's safe to say the game is along the lines of the .Hack series. Which isn't so bad if it's just one game and a series of repetitiveness that was the .Hack series. I speak in terms of the dungeons.

Dungeons, yeah. The worlds are like this. You fly to a planet, you get off, and it's either going to have A. a city, then step out into a dungeon (or cutscene into one) or B. directly onto a huge dungeon (such as your 2nd world, the forest world)

You'd think that it's not as bad, but the dungeons in this game are 2-3x bigger than .hacks. damn that's just the standard early to mid game dungeons, the late game dungeons like the godforsaken tower are too big for what they have you do. not to mention the random encounters while you're trying to figure out how to work between Tower A and Tower B. Oh my god. Fuck that shit.

AzN_Skater
02-01-2007, 03:39 PM
I'm actually very ok with the fact that the dungeons are huge due to the ridiculous number of save points. And this kinda reminds me of Grandia 3. Dungeon -> City -> Cutscene -> Dungeon -> repeat.

I just read up on the game and it seems like the majority of the features in this game are directly ripped off of Star Ocean 3, especially the assembly line minigame for inventing items. The SO3 invention system was pretty fun and interesting though.

This game is so cool, I just finished Alistia and did the Gladius Towers right before that. Total hours is at 40+ I believe. I would be a little further but I'm also playing Ar Tonelico

AzN_Skater
02-12-2007, 12:08 PM
How did you unlock alistia? I can't even get past the town because that dude won't let me in. I'm sitting at about 27 hours right now.

Gasaraki
02-12-2007, 02:52 PM
Well, what happened was, right after the Rosa Ruins that tells you to go to Zerard, Juraika and Vedan, I decided to go to Zerard and the Towers first. I ripped through the blue prince and right before the red prince I took some time to get all my weapons current cause those ancient knights/bishops/etc, where pissing me the hell off. By the time I fought the red prince I was like lvl 50+, right after that event ended, I left and went to the helm. when I tried to open the solar system menu, it automatically had it opened up to me in a short cutscene.

So, I have no idea how I unlocked it haha.

Edit: someone earlier said that you don't need to power level, you just need to upgrade weapons, THAT IS SO TRUE. The only reason you really need to level up is to gain the ability to use higher leveled weapons. Weapon mixing is incredibly effective and so easy in this game. Hell, if you keep up you should always have weapons for your characters no more than 5-7 levels below their own level. You guy's will be amazed and the extreme power the leveled up Desert seeker has compared to other weapons of similar levels.

For example, the fourth version of the DS is called "Earthshaker" and is a lvl 40 wep with 373 attack. The "Judgement Halo", also for Jaster, is a lvl 47 wep with 289 attack. EarthShaker plus Flash Sword lvl3 + Burning Strike lvl2(haven't seen 3 yet) does around 7-8,000 easy...

Yeah, Jaster's insane.

AzN_Skater
02-12-2007, 05:08 PM
I can GO to alistia, but when I get there, I can't go through the tunnel right after the town to fight anything. All I get is that shitty town with that one shitty shop.

Gasaraki
02-12-2007, 05:51 PM
Ah, did you already talk to everyone in town? You should start a cutscene eventually, then you can probably proceed.

AzN_Skater
02-12-2007, 07:29 PM
Got the cutscene lol. Didn't even know there were npcs behind the shop.

How are you doing on the frog log? I'm way too lazy to find the right combo of weapons. I just mash things together haha.

Oh yah, how do you level up Desert Seeker? I've tried everything and it's still the level 3 sword you get at the start. It's mastered and everything.

Gasaraki
02-13-2007, 03:35 PM
The frog log doesn't require that you mix EXACTLY what he recommends, it just requires you to mix ANYTHING. I just mix a couple of copies of new weapons I find in shops(or in chests) together then I mix the result into the characters current mixed weapon and keep it up until the wep lvl is similar to the character's level. Jaster's the only one I do bit different since his sword is so insanely strong.

You lvl up DS by mixing it with other swords, however, in order to get a stronger version the lvl of the wep you add to DS must be higher by a certain amount, I'm not sure what that amount is though. Example: Earthshaker(DS ver.4, lvl40) cannot be upgraded with a lvl 47 sword. However, lower versions of DS don't need a drastic level difference. It seems to get exponentially more the higher the version it is.

AzN_Skater
02-13-2007, 06:03 PM
Yah, you can just mash weapons together, but to increase your completion percentage, you have to make that shit he tells you to when you analyze your maxed out weapons.

Unreallystic
02-14-2007, 11:07 AM
I got to the last boss scenerio last night.

The game is too easy. Weapons are USELESS lol. You can cast spells to get you thru the whole game except on bosses who you won't hit for a bunch of numbers with weapons anyway. I kept everyone several levels ahead of where they should be - I'm on the last joint with everyone close to lvl 60 and whooping ass. Several tricks to breeze thru the game.

Steve - get his lvl 3 ice beam and AP efficiency asap. You can get his lvl 3 before anyone else. I one hit stuff from 'the teens' all the way to - hell Steve STILL one hits almost everything. The things he doesn't one hit typically have a shield, or barely survive and die to a lvl 1 lightning from Zegram or someshit.

Only bother getting one lvl 3 power per person, you won't need more than that, and try to get their strongest. the onyl person I'd recommend mroe than one lvl 3 dmg power is Deego, wonder Howl at lvl 3 only drains about 30 AP, while cover fire *strongest spell in game IMO* requires 51 and thats with ap efficiency.

Level EVERYONE up. I knew they would do this, but without any spoilers - at the end of the game, each character will fight a last boss - so leaving jupis to die will SERIOUsLY mess you up in the long run.

Get Illusion Sword lvl 2 - you'll need it against Johanna and against Mother, without it you can't beat Mother *seriously - it sets up her weakness*

Earthshaker so far is the strongest weapons I've come across. I got 'The Ultimate Sword' and was pissed as hell to see it at 100 pts LESS than Earthshaker, and you can't combine them *cries*.
