You know, I really love firefox. Really, I do. Firefox 1.5 that is. Ever since my bro upgraded to 2.0, I've had nothing but problems with this damn thing.

- Firefox seems to crash and shutdown on a regular basis. And I mean fucking daily. I really notice it when I open up aol.com in a tab and as soon as I do that, close it, or try to go to another website on that tab, it shuts down. That new thing with "restoring" previous firefoxes doesn't work on that either.

- When I dowload torrents, it won't give me the option to open it right away with my bt client. I have to save it to the goddamn desktop and open it to the client from there. Pain in my ass

- When I roll over hyperlinks with my cursor or anything that will have the cream colored text pop up when you roll over it, it doesn't. Good example, if I roll over someones rep bar, it won't tell me their status.

Does anyone else have this issue or is it just me?

Use Opera.

Firefox 2.0 works perfectly fine for me. Your comp must be screwed up a bit, in some way other than FF simply not working properly....

My ONLY gripe with it, is the spell checking needs work. Often I'll right-click on something misspelled to check a correct spelling, and the suggestions given are nowhere near what the word is.

I don't know how it could be fucked up but you could be right. You know, I never tried uninstalling then re-installing it. That might work.

I've heard very little about Opera. What's that all about?

Oh swell. Now I'm not the only one. Trying the re-install right now but not expecting any fucking miracles.

It was pretty much the same thing for me. Open it up and it'll pop up saying it needs to close. So every time you start 2.0 basically you need to boot it up twice just to use the thing...

Have 0 problems with Firefox. The only thing I don't like is they removed the option to have images display full size in a new window, so each time I get an image that's bigger than the screen it's always shrunk down. That's annoying.

I really notice it when I open up aol.com in a tab and as soon as I do that, close it, or try to go to another website on that tab, it shuts down. That new thing with "restoring" previous firefoxes doesn't work on that either.

This can either be the site, or it could be the installation didn't work with whatever your Windows has on it. The close command is getting called from somewhere. Virus / spyware scan could help.

- When I dowload torrents, it won't give me the option to open it right away with my bt client. I have to save it to the goddamn desktop and open it to the client from there. Pain in my ass

You mean the option to open is blacked out and unselectable? Check the settings to see if you can add the filetype to the list of file options to make it open downloaded torrents. Keep in mind though that if it did this the torrent is stored in a temp folder, and you'd have to find it and delete it when you're done with it. (Assuming it's stored in a different folder than your cache, I don't tell Firefox to directly open anything).

- When I roll over hyperlinks with my cursor or anything that will have the cream colored text pop up when you roll over it, it doesn't. Good example, if I roll over someones rep bar, it won't tell me their status.

This is random on my end. Sometimes it will, sometimes it won't. Usually it won't because the page hasn't loaded fully. Rolling in and out will usually make it work.

Outdated / improper windows libraries that Firefox could be accessing can cause problems if the functions don't match, ect. I blame Microsoft sabotage.

Wow i don't know what the hell is wrong with some of you guy's computers. But Firefox 2.0 runs just as stable/good for me, if not slightly BETTER than previous Firefox versions have!

No problems here

lol...seriously...what do u guys do with it. I haven't had any trouble with it so far. Its better I reckon. Even when I restart my pc...it asks me if I want to restore prev session and I am back to where I was. All I did was download and install 2.0 over my 1.5 and install like 5 extensions and a theme. I am sure it would work as well without those.

I know I know I deserve that. I've had an aol MAIL account for like 9 years so everyone knows that one, that's the only reason why I go there.

I haven't had any problems with Firefox 2.0 so far. No random crashes, no problems with tabs, and even the display text for images usually works for me. I just checked with your rep and it told me that you're "moving up the chain." without any trouble.

Opera is a decent browser. I've tried using it before and the main problem I have with it is that is suffers from some compatability issues. I tried it when Opera 9 first came out, and I had tons of problems loading up with Gmail and Hotmail, for example. If issues like that have been ironed out, though, then I would say it might be worth checking out.

I'm of the camp who isn't having any problems running Firefox 2.0 too. I'm running it on two comps as well, and haven't had problems on either.

It's your comp. Either that or you don't know how to set it up properly.

How tough can it be? You point and and click man. I've never had a problem installing or setting up other versions of FF.

i agree that firefox 2 is pretty shitty. it runs fine on my brothers computer, but its totally owning up some of my friends machines.

i guess it was a good choice to stick with the older1.x version.

You know, I've been running my shit on IE7 since last night and it seems alright. I just wanted the tab browsing and the ability to open downloads as opposed to saving them. That, and the rollover stuff works too now. I'll mess around with FF later.

Cryptlord

Just reinstall the whole thing.

Doc Holliday

Done it. Now I'm done with it. I hate to support the Microsoft Monopoly any further but I gotta go with IE7 right now.

Noted

You should give opera a try.

And noted. You get tab browsing with Opera?

UltraDavid
01-21-2007, 11:45 AM
Yeah, Opera has tabs. It's faster on startup and browsing than Firefox and I like the fact that it comes with an email/rss feed reader, but Firefox blows it away in terms of useability and customization.

I stick with Firefox 2.0, and while for the most part it works fine, occasionally when I click on a link to a movie of some kind (seems to happen with various filetypes) the browser just quits. No stall, no exit dialogue, just, all of a sudden it's off. When I open it back up it lets me restore my previous spot, but still, that's pretty annoying.
