Yeah. It seems to have lots of interesting characters, really good animation, good hitboxes, only problem is I have no real idea how the system works. I'm leaning towards the werewolf for now, though the teleporting girl is cool too.

I dunno...I just wanted to spread this game around.

I'm just trying to figure the game out for this while. I was actually kinda hoping that someone else could explain the game to me.

As far as first impressions go, I'm definitely impressed, and (on surface, at least) it seems to hold a lot more than most doujin fighters (character variety, animation quality, etc) so I'm pumped for it currently.

Then again, you never know. I might hate it by Sunday.

PS - I've never played Melty Blood, so I guess my thread title is quite possibly a horrible, cruel lie. But hey, it's (shitty) marketing!

Regardless this game is... really different.

I'm toying around with Tyranoman because his I can't read japanese! Regardless his super list is weird whenever i do his grab super it just does a regular one :/ His C is a flame attack while... strong seems totally useless, althought it can charge while running and during no other movement it seems.

There's a juggle system of sorts.

The game obviously uses 3d rendered characters made into sprites, but the animation is REALLY good, like 3S quality good. The sprites themselves don't look bad, but they're much less refined than those of other games. It's basically a backwards Guilty Gear, what it lacks in individual graphics, it makes up with amazingly fluid animation.

Ok Werewolf is REALLY original. The only way he can knock you down is if he hits you with his special moves, but his knockdown basically cancels off EVERYTHING. Supercool.

The only thing I dislike about it is the character designs are, in all honesty, kind of shitty. I've never been a fan of werewhatevers.

Ok, everyone's backdash puts you in the air, which enables you to double jump in any direction, which is really neat.

Two kinds of supers:
"Level 3 Supers", which are flat out max damage supers, you can only do them with 3 stocks?
"Level 1 Super Cancelable Supers", self cancel into more damage for each bar of meter you spend.
"Shift" supers give you some sort of... special ability so far, for Werewolf its "Senei Enbu" in tranquility basically, multiple hits with shitloads of knockback.

I'm interested in how Orju plays. I was about to give up on him until I figured the basics of his enchant circle rune thingy.

Practically all normals are jump/dash/backdash/special/burst/super cancellable.

Rail
-d,d+A gives his spirit thingy an extra hit

Othello
-j.A hits Ryougen as an instant overhead. Doesn't work after jump cancelling. Might only work on him.
-His dp+A seems to have a small hitbox. It only hits airborne opponents and you have to really time it well as an AA. Do it when the opponent is close to the ground because it'll whiff if you use it like a dp, it might not even have the purpose of being AA.

Basically you have to leave the Monster window at the top, if you open aim or something then go back to Monster it will kick out of an online game. Weird I know

If you are on a router you have to direct connect to your computer. I was just playing with eddymasta for like 2 hours lol. Massively fun games and the lag is fucking sick. I highly suggest people get in this shit

Yeah, sadly i cant control which direction the move will teleport most of the time. So i have to adlib lol. Maya is really good in the corner. Your character has quite the frame trap too. I couldnt poke out of that shit at all lol. And our connection was mad good too. Im really looking forward to seeing more people get on this shit!

Is Aleksander an incomplete character or something? He has no specials at all. Although, he does have the funniest Absurd in the game.

In case anyone hasn't figured out. To do an Absurd you have to have full Shift bar and 3 levels of special (so it's not really practical). Also, the level one super can be done three times in a row to get another level three super (couldn't get it to work with Othello).

EDIT: I haven't played this out of Training Mode yet. Is there a way to recover after a launch/wallbounce/knockdown?

EDIT II: If the opponent is close enough when you are going into Shift mode then it will hit them. So it can be used to extend combos: such as using it after the last hit of Aleksander's level three super then juggle.

Rail has some crossup stuff w/ 236A. Looks to be random unless there's setups/combos that place the little spirit thingy infront of the opponent when do you it, or else it wouldn't crossup.

Demon chick...really haven't messed around with her but she looks good. I like this combo in the corner, but I'm sure there's much better ones:

In the corner: Jump up x 2, j.ABC, land, 2C (1 hit) x jump, j.AABC, land, 5AB, jump up x2, j.AB x 41236A

Canceling normals like a sweep into a dash is pretty nice. I use it to extend Rail's air juggles. I do the same for that little prairie looking girl.

And alt-tabbing this game crashes my computer completely...

What are you talking about here? For me...all the gauges fill up automatically and you get a super bar whenever you do a Shift. The only differences I see between the "grooves" are how they change the special moves slightly.

Just download the EXE. Then execute it. Choose the main Monster folder and install it.

Also, I just realized that while in Freedom Shift you can cancel any special move (at least the recovery...sometimes earlier) with another, itself, a dash, a jump, a normal...basically everything.

And all the Shifts give the same damage bonus as far as I can tell.

Ok. This will be my post where I explain the differences I've found between the Shifts.

Monster:

- Adds damage to the special moves (HUGE increase).
- Adds knockdown/wallbounce to many special moves that don't normally have it.
- Increases start-up and recovery of most special moves.

Freedom:

- Allows all special moves to be canceled...by about anything.
- Special moves do less damage than normal (about half as much...or less).
- Decreases start-up and recovery time to most special moves.
- Decreases range on most special moves.

Tranquility

- Tranquility is hard to explain. As far as I can tell it doesn't do any specific thing. What it does do is change the properties of your character's special moves in some weird ways. So really, for this Shift you have to just test out your character and see if you like what it does for them.
-Examples-
~ Katze's qcf+B loses damage. But you can cancel into it from qcf+A now; and qcf+A does more damage.
~ Katze's qcb+A does less damage, but after it connects he flies away from the opponent.
~ Siely's hcf+A is no longer a throw, but an actual move and does more damage.
~ Ryougen's qcf+B does less damage, but does not give a count on the "point" counter.

What is the point counter for?

The point counter is basically the combo/block counter. It works like this:

- The point counter goes up for every hit in a combo. It also goes up (for the opponent) every time you consecutively hit a blocking opponent.
- If you hit someone while a point counter is already on your side of the screen then that counter disappears and a new one takes its place (with the amount equaling the hits of the newest combo).
- After a moment of not hitting the opponent, or blocking, the point counter will start to tick away.
- After 1 it leaves the screen.
- As long as a point counter is on your side of the screen, your next hit/combo will start with damage reduction.

At least I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

EDIT: Is there chip damage in this game? If there is, then I bet that the higher your point counter; the more chip damage you take on block. But I obviously haven't tested this yet.

Ive been playing Othello and it seems he has all the moves the same motion but different strengths except for the blood explode (which by the way looks like it could be like an awesome HOS charge cancel type thing for lockdowns since it cancels off normals.) I found the blood move, the ground pound to explode it, the bite, and the charge bullet super? Is this similar for everyone?

So pick Dinosaur then pick ryogua or whatever (the lion) and combo into throw in the corner, then dash back, and then do qcb+light attack (chain swing thingy) then do it again and again and again (the chain swing thing that is) eventually it scales down to no damage, but this seems like a legit combo unless there is some sort of ground teching out I don't know about... But yeah infinite, it may or may not work on everybody haven't tested that far yet...

Tranquilty doesn't give you super armor, but Maya has retarded moves if you learn how to use her. Basically all Tranquilty does for her is make her go Darkstalkers on everybody. Her 4 main specials:

- Teleport warp at the bottom
- Teleport fireball that will teleport anything infront of your face so you can technically hit yourself
- "Illusion" of herself lunging forward and attacking you or sitting there, doing a hop and striking downwards on you
- Creating an illusion of you that mimics everything you do except opposite, running away is the best thing so that this doesn't end up making you hit yourself again.

Now Tranquilty comes into play after that when you activate it, she loses a lot of her stuff like the forward teleport fireball thing and the "illusions". However she does gain the ability to summon illusions that take hits for her, summon that round thing around her that shields her from 1 hit and a super that allows her to go Seibu-Enbu on you (crappy version of Freedom groove that doesn't have as much freedom). Probably the most frustrating person to fight, especially if you've never fought her before.

You see Power Break when you do a reversal/counter-hit to someone with your activation. I believe it also happens when their points are too high and you reversal them as well.

I understand your frustration using her. But I honestly dont have too many issues using her. Ive been doing quite well playing her. Yeah alot of her pokes get beat out. You can try ground crossups on wake up and practice the timing. her mixups are really really good. But her pokes are ass thats for sure =(

Still messing around with Rail...using Freedom Rail now. He's got some pretty good corner traps, I think, what with him being able to cancel qcf + A over and over again. I think I managed to chip almost half the opponent's life by activating Freedom mode, meaty qcf + A, repeat until almost out of meter, qcb + C, low A, qcf + A, repeat until end of meter, finish with qcb + A.

And that's just something remotely basic. I wonder how awesome good Freedom Rail players would be like.

It's not exactly broken (aside from the Dino's infinite, but it becomes useless once it gets scaled to shit, and there's no timer meaning no easy time-over wins with Dino...), but it feels that way. Once you adjust to the game, it's actually pretty balanced (minus some early observations of the Schnauzer with a sword being shit-tier) until someone discovers an infinite and decides to be an asshole and do it forever until you quit manually...

*Hello to all. I just wanted to say what a great game you guys have created during the time that I have played it. I am very impressed with the ammount of time you guys took in creating this game and I am very thankful for the release of this game. I am from a website on the internet called Shoryuken.com. We have will be compiling suggestions and ideas that could prove benifical to you guys. I saw that you guys posted vids of you playing on youtube.com. If you guys could post more videos that would be great. It would help the already growing community as well as new comers to become more aquainted playing this game. If you ever get the chance to check out Shoryuken.com, It would be really good for you guys to see the ammount of support that the site has given toward your game.

Some of the suggesstions I would like to make toward the game are as follows:

1. A few more stages in the game. Nothing fancy. Just to add a little bit of variety.

2. I really like your music choice for this game. But at times it tends to b e a little repetitive. Is it possible that you guys could add a few more songs to the game?

3.I have to ask, What is up with alaksander? He seems to be lacking a move list(or was that intended) If it wasn't intended is it possible that you guys create one for him?

4. I really like your character dynamic. You dont have any"cookie cutter" characters(ryu or ken playalikes from street fighter) If you could add a few more characters to the game that would be awesome. If you would just suggestions on which characters to add, I am pretty sure the members of Shoryuken.com would be more than happy to help with that.

5. I dont know if you can change this or help the situation in anyway. But I am pretty sure the american players would like to learn a thing or 2 about the game itself. Is it possible to create tutorials for basics regarding each character. This way everyone plays on somewhat of an equal playing level.

6. Something about the online. I would like to know if you guys are able of creating some sort of chat and friends list mechanic for the online of this game? I know a few people wondered about that as well.

They definitely would benefit from a Replay (recording) functionality like the one that exists in Melty Blood. That shit is a must for the future.

[Edit]: It looks like they already intend to add more stages. In training mode you are able to select from a list of 5 from the "top" and 5 from the "bottom", and then there's like 8 duplicates on the top and bottom that are probably just there as fillers.

[Edit2] My favorite is the night-time forest stage. Shit is hot son.

-Give him a standing equivalent of his jumping A. It should hit high(miss against crouching characters) and not be cancellable at all.
-Remove his "Kaiba!" yell from the startup of his qcb+A or give him a less telegraphing sound byte.

Orju
-Make it so that he can call his Enchant Circle in the air.
-Make it so that he can renew his Enchant Circle with qcf+A while one is still out.
-Reduce the startup of his dp+A or give it some invincibility.
-Make it so his energy ball slowly homes in on the opponent until it disappears.

Othello
-Increase the hitbox of his dp+A so it doesn't whiff as much as an anti-air.

In case anyone hasn't figured out. To do an Absurd you have to have full Shift bar and 3 levels of special (so it's not really practical). Orju's Absurd is insane in Monster shift, lol.

Also, the level one super can be done three times in a row to get another level three super (couldn't get it to work with Othello). How does that work? You have to hit with which super (214 or 236?) in which shift? And if you hit 3 times you get an absurd?

Ayaimmortal whooped me around like a little girl because I just woke up and you were my first match up X_x my execution was so shit, couldn't even combo into my super properly. GG anyways though, I'll play better tonight when I'm a little bit more attentive.

Just to reiterate as well, I HATE SIELY! Everything on block is not safe to retaliate from. Only thing you can do against her rushdown is do a back dash at the right time when she breaks her offense and even then if you're a split second late, she can hit you before you hit her. Oh well, I'll continue to try and stay faithful to being a Katze player, wonder why nobody plays him though.

Good games Boleslaw. I don't understand why, but for some reason I am able to use JoyToKey to use the directional pad on the pad that I have, but when we were playing over the network it was forcing me to use the Analog thing instead of the directionals. That's why I quit and came back, I was trying to get it to work, but alas it failed -- I think I needed to configure my directionals for player 2 in the config AND in JoyToKey. :bluu:

That's why I was mostly doing runaway, I couldn't do certain motions to save my life.

And OMFG no wonder I couldn't do Rail's Absurd -- it's a fucking qcb x2, I thought it was qcf. -.-

[EDIT]: PPS!! While playing with Boleslaw, I realized you CAN save Replays! Woohoo! Woohoo!

Also: You can change the character's costume! Woohoo! Woohooo!
